Jesus Christ, Divine Sonship
2 Nephi 25:12
But, behold, they shall have wars, and rumors of wars; and when the day cometh that the Only Begotten of the Father, yea, even the Father of heaven and of earth, shall manifest himself unto them in the flesh, behold, they will reject him, because of their iniquities, and the hardness of their hearts, and the stiffness of their necks.
Book of Mormon
Jarom 1:1-15
New Testament "Come Follow Me"
John 5:17-47

General Conference
Shepherding Souls
Elder Gary E. Stevenson
"May we raise our sights to this prophetic vision so we can shepherd souls to the temple and ultimately to our Savior, Jesus Christ. He does not expect us to perform miracles. He asks only that we bring our brothers and sisters unto Him, for He has the power to redeem souls. As we do so, we can and will secure this promise: 'And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away.' Of this I testify - and of Jesus Christ as our Savior and our Redeemer - in the name of Jesus Christ, amen."

We left the house this morning at 5:44 am. for the temple. President Palmer and his wife did the training today. President Palmer is the temple president. We saw the same video we saw last week regarding the endowment session. This time President Palmer decided to focus on learning from the Spirit. He told a story he heard about a group of Saints who lived in Sierra Leone, Africa who had never been to the temple. They planned a new trip to the temple in Accra, Ghana. Before they left they had a meal together. The mission president was a little troubled by one of their culture traditions which allowed the men to eat first, then the women, and then the children if there was anything left. He was troubled but he did not say anything. After spending two days doing ordinance work in the temple the group had another meal together. This time the men went to get the food but instead of eating it they took it to their wives and children. President Palmer said that no one had told them to do this but they had been taught by the Spirit through their temple attendance. I loved this story.

I saw my friend from Chandler, Ruth Gale, in the temple today. She lives in Snowflake now and I see her from time to time

I also saw two girls from our ward, Holly and Khaya with a group of girls from the stake. I love seeing people I know when I'm at the temple.

My temple lunch break was quite delicious today. I had half an egg salad sandwich, chalupa, and orange gelatin, Coolwhip salad. I thought all of those things would be good to serve at our Easter potluck. Oh, and the best brownie I have ever had! Maybe I was just extra hungry today because all I had for breakfast was a Slimfast shake.

After our shift was over I went to the dressing room to get my ordinance clothes so I could attend the 1:30 session with the Gordon's from our ward. The Gordon's are a mom and son who joined the Church around a year ago after their husband/father died and are going through for the own endowments today.

While in the dressing room Sister DeWitt began telling us about a sister who complained about one of the films shown. (This was several years ago).  She went in to the office and told them she was going to report them to Salt Lake for showing a film with such an evil Satan that brought a bad spirit.
I guess it was the older film with the bald Satan. She said she wanted to know if they showed that film again so she would not be there on that day. I said, "Well it's not like we have a marquee where we can announce what's playing." Sister Wenhardt said: "Maybe we should and it could say: "Now showing 'Bald Satan' movie." I guess you can't please everyone.

While waiting in line to get my new name I met a sister probably in her early 40's. As we began to talk I found out her mother was Nancy McCleve, the sister of one of my best friends in high school, Sharon McCleve. She said Sharon was one of her favorite aunts. This woman's name was Michelle Baker. She lives in Snowflake and was at the temple with her son who just returned from a mission in Germany. It's a small world, especially in the Snowflake temple where I always see someone I know or make a connection with someone.

There were 11 people from our ward supporting Holly and Charlie in the endowment session. The Millers, the Wilhelms, Us, Anthony, Alicia, Stefani, Judy, and Brother Grapp. Being in the Celestial room and seeing how happy Holly and Charlie were and how long they embraced was a real treat. It felt like Heaven and how it will be when we reunite with our loved ones.

Back at home we did our normal things; walking, eating, blogging, and watching Hallmark movies. James went outside and checked out how his bunnies are doing. I thing he also bought a couple of books.

Jesus Christ, Crucifixion
DC 138:27
But his ministry among those who were dead was limited to the brief time intervening between the crucifixion and his resurrection;
Book of Mormon
3 Nephi 10:1-19
*How have you seen Christ work in your life like a "hen gathering her chickens under her wings" for protection?
- A hen cares for her chicks and would sacrifice her life to protect them. When danger threatens, she gathers the chicks under her wings for protection. In a similar way, the Lord loves his people, the house of Israel. He gave His life for His people and has sought to gather them together so he could protect and nourish them. resident Henry B. Eyring said: "More than once He has said that He would gather us to Him as a hen would gather her chickens under her wings. He says that we must choose to come to Him in meekness and with enough faith in Him to repent with full purpose of heart. (3 Nephi 10:6). One way to do that is to gather with the Saints in His Church. Go to your meetings, even when it seems hard. If you are determined, He will help you find the strength to do it."(Ensign, May 2004, 18).

General Conference
The Role of the Book of Mormon in Conversion
Elder Shayne M. Bowen
"We are gathering Israel for the last time and are doing so with the Book of Mormon, one of the most powerful tools of conversion."

I woke up early but instead of going to the dining room table to study I went right to my recliner. The though of getting ready to go to stake conference made me tired. I was cheered by the Happy Sabbath photos Kacey sent of Charlie.
I slept a little more at, and gave myself drugs and gradually began to feel better. I got ready to go and we left by 9 o'clock. The conference starts at 10. We arrived before 10 and sat about half way back in the cultural hall right by the Price's, Grapp's, and Bowen's.

James got a chance to talk to President Allen. He says although he serves in the Scottsdale mission presidency he still gets to live in Show Low. Actually he lives in Linden. James said to him, "Well it's good to see that you are still active."

The prelude music the choir sang sounded beautiful. We had four members of our ward in the choir: Sister Crane, Sister Applegate, Brother Goodman, and Brother Cooper.

Anthony came and sat with us and the Grapp's were behind us, the Bowen's and Price's in front of us. We were surrounded by friends.

Here is the letter I sent to Ben about our stake conference:

"Grandpa and I attended our stake conference yesterday and today. We had three former high school friends on the stand. One is in the Scottsdale mission presidency and the other two were husband and wife serving in the Snowflake temple presidency. Nice to know they are all still active.
Stake conference was very inspiring. We have three doctors in our stake presidency: One who restores sight, President Wright, one who improves your bite, President Beeler, and one who protects life, President Miles.
In Matthew 18:21-22 the Savior says we are to forgive 70x7 which is 490 times. What is significant about the number 490? Hebrew is an alpha numeric language, which means each number is associated with a word. 490 means to complete or as the Savior applied it, finish your forgiveness. We should never seek revenge and always forgive. (This was from President Miles's talk. He started out by telling the story of Samson and how he ruined his life because he sought revenge.)
A quote from President Nelson was given about unleashing the power of families. In order to bring our families back to the Celestial Kingdom we must develop Christ-like attributes. His grace is sufficient if we try and if we repent.

"A brother who was angry with God for 13 years found his way back to the gospel. He said as he was praying and writing in his journal, the Spirit told him to remember the Savior and what the Savior had done for him. He did and it made all the difference.
He encouraged us to watch a James E. Faust video on YouTube called "Voice of the Spirit."

"Sister Reidhead, from the temple presidency, told a story about taking apart and cleaning the chandelier in the celestial room of the Snowflake temple when she accidentally broke a piece. She said she prayed to Heavenly Father and told Him she was so very sorry but she knew she could make it right if He would help her. She said one of the brothers working in the temple thought he had seen something in the storage room that might help. He came back with the exact piece that was needed. Sister Reidhead testified that Heavenly Father knows each of us by name and He loves everyone of us.

President Reidhead ask us to help with the gathering of Israel in the temple. His wife took most of his time with her awesome story, so his message was short).

"President Beeler, our stake president, reminded us of an invitation he made to us the last week of May of this year. He called it an invitation with a promise. We were to fast on June 3rd for moisture and we were to spend more time in the temple. If we did these things the moisture would come and we would have greater spiritual blessings in our lives. In a week and a half we had broken the 70 year record for rainfall in June by 30 times. He said it was a miracle from God. Since that time the record breaking rain and snow continues.

"We must be constant about our change. Our commitment to the temple is a great example. We need to receive His image in our countenance so people will know who we believe in and what Church we belong to. God is able to show His greatest work though people."

On the way home from stake conference the skies looked like we were going to get some rain, but we never did. Sheri posted a video of it raining in Chandler. I love when the sky looks like this:

James grilled burgers with cheese, I cut up some veggies, and walla, lunch was served. Thanks Adam for leaving the burgers.

I sent the email Kim sent me about the doctor she loves to Sister Miller, the bishop's wife. She seemed excited and wanted Kim's number so she could talk to her. I hope this doctor can help Anne.

I made cookies today so James can take some to the Howard's tomorrow. I spoke to Jean and told her I would bring her lunch tomorrow, noddle soup from Mountain Thai to go with the cookies.

I texted Trina and asked her what she was doing, I was eating cookie dough. She laughed and said that they asked in Relief Society today what everyone's favorite meal was and she said, "cookie dough."

She posted a picture of Oliver on Instagram and said he was splooting. I asked her what splooting was. The explanation was much better than I had thought. Splooting means a dog has his legs spread out as he lays on his stomach.

I did two blog posts, and James and I listened to chapter 27 in "Saints."

 So adorable!

 Charlie is rockin' this outfit!

 I love this story!

Jesus Christ Atonement through
2 Corinthians 5:18
And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;
Book of Mormon
Ether 5:1-6:11
The Lord Jesus Christ is the source of light for our world and for our lives. The Lord touched the stones the brother of Jared presented to Him "to give light unto men, women, and children"(6:3) as they crossed the ocean. The Lord also provides light to guide us through the darkness of mortality and toward the brightness of the celestial kingdom - our promised land. Our way is lit by the light of apostles and prophets, the standard works, and inspired leaders and teachers. We too can be a light-we can light the way for others when we hearken to the Lord's counsel and keep ourselves worthy of His Spirit. Sister Ardeth G. Kapp, former Young Women General President counseled: "You have the light within. You can shine in darkness. You can light up the world. You can help dispel darkness. You ca make a difference." I was privileged to travel with Sister Kapp when I went to England. She invited my friend and I to have dinner with her and her sisters. She went out of her way to be kind to us, virtual strangers. She seemed genuinely interested in us and asked us question about our lives. I have never met a kinder or sweeter person. She truly radiates the light of Christ!
Doctrine Covenants Favorite Scriptures
DC 20:29
And we know that all men must repent and believe on the name of Jesus Christ, and worship the Father in his name, and endure in faith on his name to the end, or they cannot be saved in the kingdom of God.
General Conference
"I Have a Work for Thee"
Elder John C. Pingree, Jr.
"Focus on others. We can follow Christ, 'who went about doing good.' If you desire, you shall be the means of doing much good in this generation' DC 11:8. The primary purpose of divine assignments is to bless others and to do much good."

Moroni did not use King Mosiah's Hebrew translation of the Jaredite plates. He made his own translation in reformed Egyptian.

Happy Birthday Curtis!

This boy turns 10 today

I left for the valley around 9:30 this morning by myself. James is too sick to go with me. I stopped in Show Low and Heber to put air in my tire because the indicator light kept coming on to tell me I had a low tire. By the time I got to Payson it was ok. I think maybe it was low because of the cold air.

My first stop in the valley was at Chandler Eyecare. Sheri put new lenses in my glasses and then we went to lunch at Zupa's. I had a gift card that Kim gave me last year. When the girl scanned it, the computer froze up so she told me my lunch was free. I had a salad and some soup.

After lunch I went to the Fry's on Germann and Alma School and picked up a birthday card and gift card to Outback for Paul since today is his birthday. I also got a box of oatmeal for Stacy so Joshua could make cookies for Paul.

Sister Wilhelm asked me if I would pic up something for Wendy DeWitt for her. Wendy is making her copies of kids movies on a flash drive for Christmas. Wendy had sent me her address so I put it in my GPS and drove directly to it. After visiting with Wendy and Colin a few minutes Wendy gave me a card and asked if I would deliver it to the Scott's. She also asked me not to tell them who it was from. I said I would make the delivery and my lips were sealed.

While I was in Gilbert I stopped at Deseret Book and got a triple combination for Curtis in my Primary class. I had his name engraved on it. Next stop, the Costco next door. I picked up some more blankets, and wrapping paper, but they were out of ribbon, the main reason I stopped.

I hurried back to Stacy's in Chandler. Joshua has a concert tonight and he and Stacy needed a ride. Paul is meeting them there, driving they only car they have right now that is working. Joshua plays the trumpet. I took a picture of him before they left. I am sad his and Evan's concert is tonight, the same night as Addy's.

Such a handsome guy!

Right after Joshua's concert, Evan had his first orchestra concert.

The cutest violinist I've ever seen!

I dropped off gifts at Sheri's today and got to see Ben and Ollie.
This evening I dropped off at Sam's Club to see if they had any Christmas ribbon. Sure enough they did. I am so glad I stopped. I got some more wrapping paper and some croissants. They make the best.

After my stop at Sam's Club I drove out to Darrel and Trina's. Addy was already at the school but Trina and the other kids were home.
We all jumped in Trina's car and drove to Desert Ridge High School. Trina's mom had saved us seats down front. The concert was short and sweet. Addy and her group sang "Santa Baby" as one of their songs. Lola told Addy she really lie t.

It was a great concert. I'm just sorry James and Darrel couldn't be there.

I managed to get my steps in today.

Kacey posted this picture. It actually snowed
in San Antonio.

Jared is in El Paso and he posted this:

16th operating temple
Dedicated: 9-22 Nov 1974
By: Spencer W. Kimball

Alma 50:1-20
What can you do to cut off your spiritual enemies from their strong-holds?
*Instagram-bofm365-marianawolfe: "It's important that even when we are under 'prosperous circumstances' (v.17) that we do not stop making preparations...to defend our people. There is a tendency for us to become at ease when things are going well. However, we can't let our guard down for one moment. We have to continually be building strong and high defenses against the adversary, preparing strongholds, ad securing...our people from the hands of the devil and evil forces. We can't ever stop preparing."
DC 112:17-34
Why should verses 23-24 cause us to seriously reflect upon our daily actions?
*stef_littlefield: "In verse 26 it reminds us that we need to really know the Lord, not just profess to know Him. It's truly in our daily choices that shows our true devotion to the Lord. We must be the 'light on the hill.' the beacon of hope in the dark and evil world through the way we live our lives, and love and serve others as Jesus Christ did.
General Conference
The Language of the Gospel
Elder Valeri V. Cordon
" As families we need to avoid any tradition that will prevent us from keeping the Sabbath day holy or having daily scripture study and prayer at home. To combat the worldly traditions of our day, we need to use the scriptures and the voice of our modern prophets to teach our children about their divine identity, their purpose in life and the divine mission of Jesus Christ."

James and I barely made it to the Tucson temple dedication broadcast held at the White Mountain stake center in Lakeside. As we walked up the sidewalk the usher who was holding the door told us we had 30 seconds before the doors would be closed. We sit in the very back row of the cultural hall. In front of us a few rows we see the Grapp's with Liana and Sister Vaught. About half way through the preliminaries, Brother Mayfield comes and sits by us.

Elder Stevenson conducted this morning session. Before the cornerstone celebration, he told of the significance of Jesus Christ being the cornerstone of the Church.
President Uchtdorf presided over the cornerstone ceremony. He said: "As we seal this cornerstone let us seal our hearts to do the work of the Lord. The Church is a place to find harmony with heaven and earth. The temple is a place of unity and love."
The actual sealing of the cornerstone in these days is only symbolic. Church authorities and their wives took part in the sealing along with local leaders and the temple presidency. Children in the congregation were then invited to participate. President Uchtdorf invited two of his grandsons who are getting ready to serve missions up also.
The choir sang, "We Thank Thee for Our Loving Savior."

Back inside the temple, Sister Moeller, the temple matron was the first speaker. She says that when the temple was announced cheers went up. While the temple was being prepared, we prepared for the temple. We must prepare o the outside and the inside, temporally and spiritually. The temple helps us have balance. We can live a godly life in a worldly world. We come to know our Savior as we serve in the temple.
President Moeller - Spoke about the Mormon Battlion and how his great, great grandfather served in the battlion. He talked about the history of the Church in Tucson. He gave the Isaiah quote, the mountain of the Lord's house. The temple is the most sacred place on earth. Without the Savior, the temple would not exist. In the temple we will be able to bear every burden and withstand temptations.
W. Christopher Waddell of the presiding bishopric. Mentioned the restoration of keys in the Kirtland temple. Creation of eternal families. A place of revelation and learning. The temple takes us to the Promised Land, the Celestial Kingdom. The temple is an oasis in a spiritual desert. It provides strength and protection, a shield armed with power and prepared to overcome the challenges of life. President Howard W. Hunter quote about the temple.
Elder Lynn G. Robbins - Dying woman's wish to have her temple recommend renewed. What do we take with us to the next life? Our temple recommend is a celestial passport. "Pass your temple recommend under the door." Our temple recommend is a symbol of our worthiness to enter into the presence of God. The temple is the Lord's house. CTR - Current Temple Recommend. The Young Women's theme is like a pledge of allegiance to the temple. Please have a picture of the temple in your home. "You can't fatten the hog on the day of the fair."
Choir sang: "This is the Christ" (written by James E. Faust)
President Dieter F. Uchtdorf - "Recommit ourselves to the Lord. This is a new beginning. The temple connects our earthly existence to our Heavenly destiny. This is literally the House of the Lord. It is a constant reminder of the goodness of our Heavenly Father. Milo and Phoebe Webb of Snowflake traveled to St. George in 1893 to be sealed. Their 11 children, grand children, and great grandchildren are reaping the blessings of their sacrifice.

"Hosanna Anthem" sung by the choir
"The Spirit of God"
Benediction - Sister Sharington

There are now six operating temples in Arizona. For years the only temple we had was in Mesa. It was dedicated on the 23-26 October 1927 by Heber J. Grant. The next temple was the Snowflake temple dedicated 3 March 2002 by Gordon B. Hinckley. The Gila Valley was dedicated 23 May 2010 by Thomas S. Monson. We had two temples dedicated in 2014. The Gilbert on 2 March and the Phoenix on 16 November. Both were dedicated by Thomas S. Monson although the dedication of the Gilbert temple was read by Henry B. Eyring. Now the Tucson temple on 13th August, 2017.
There are around 433,000 LDS in Arizona.

Darrel, Trina, Addy, Rowan, Ruby, Max, and Joshua attended the 12 o'clock dedication session at the Show Low stake center because it is closer than the one in Lakeside where we attended. James and I watched Lola who was too young, Kreed who didn't have a recommend, and Evan who wasn't feeling well. I fed the kids some lunch and then did some cleaning during the second session.

When everyone returned we had a relaxing afternoon watching TV, playing games, and reading. James cooked everyone some burgers before they left. We should have had prayer and scripture study with them! Rowan was quite sad, and shed a few tears before leaving. Darrel promised they would come up Labor Day weekend to celebrate Darrel's birthday. They left around 5:30 with Kreed and Ruby riding with Darrel in his car and everyone else in with Trina.

Lola loves her grandpa

Lola and grandpa out for a Sunday drive

Trina won our Five Crowns game so she got the prize.
Those big orange marshmallow peanuts.
She is the only one who would even eat them.

I love this dress, and the girl in it!

After everyone was gone James and I went out on the porch to enjoy the weather, and to study and read.
When we went to bed around 9 there was a thunder and rainstorm and the electricity went off for about 40 minutes.

I couldn't go to sleep until I knew that everyone made it home safely.

Words of Mormon
* This book serves as a bridge between the small plates of Nephi and Mormon's abridgment of the large plates of Nephi.
* In this book, which Mormon wrote almost 400 years after the birth of Jesus Christ, Mormon explained that he sought direction from God and was guided by the Holy Spirit about what to include in his record.
* 130 B.C. Amaleki gives the records to King Benjamin.  King Benjamin's record begins in the book of Mosiah.
* Words of Mormon helps us understand that the Book of Mormon was compiled from many records.  It also shows that revelation guided this process.
* Why did Mormon include the small plates with his abridgment of the large plates? (vs. 7)
* The Lord knows all things and He can work through us to accomplish His will.
* Can you think of a promoting you have received, how you acted upon that prompting, and what happened as a result?
* What are some teachings in 1 Nephi through Omni that you are grateful to have?
Alma 60
Moroni complains to Pahoran of the government's neglect of the armies - The Lord suffers the righteous to be slain - The Nephites must use all of their power and means to deliver themselves from their enemies - Moroni threatens to fight against the government unless help is supplied to his armies.  About 62 B.C.
DC 50:26-39
The faithful are possessors of all things; The prayers of the purified are answered;
* How can man become "possessor of all things?"

The Watchmen on the Tower.

We had a gorgeous sunset this evening.  James wanted to use the big camera but I said I thought my phone could get some good photos:

Not bad for phone photos

Since James is going to be gone all week we watched the new episode of "When Calls the Heart" tonight.

I love this show.

Elizabeth Thatcher, played by Erin Krakow,  is the school teacher.  She told her students:
"Bad things happen when good people
do nothing."
This show always has a good message.
