"Knowing, Loving, and Growing"
Elder Hans T. Boom
"We all know where we can do better. There is no need to repeatedly remind each other, but there is a need to love and minister to each other and, in doing so, provide a climate of willingness to change.
In this same environment we are learning who we really are and what our role will be in this last chapter of the world's history prior to the Second Coming of the Savior. If you are wondering about your part, I would like to invite you to find a place where you can be alone and ask Heavenly Father to make known to you which part to play. The answer will probably come gradually and then more clearly when we have set our feet more firmly on the covenant and ministering path."

I was up at 4 am today. My phone tells me that the hi today is going to be 39 degrees. Ouch! That's a little too cold even for me.

We got a dusting of snow and some rain. From 6-10 I worked on books this morning. James got up at 7 and we had prayer together. James decided to write a letter to Mario. Mario told him not to work on his home right now. James sent a text saying they, he and Armando, wanted to make things right. Mario wrote back and said, "Quit threatening me." There is definitely a communication problem. James is pretty stressed about it. If this doesn't work out we are out about $15,000.

I heated up pasta fagioli soup for lunch. I had an ice cream sandwich for dessert.

I finished reading James "Aunt Dimity: Next of Kin" and we started "Aunt Dimity and the Deep Blue Sea."

James worked all afternoon trying to fix the washer. The rubber backing from the entryway rug clogged everything up. No success but he will continue trying tomorrow. I worked on my blog most of the afternoon. I never to did around to paying bills. I blogged January 18-19. As long as I continue to blog two a day I will eventually catch up. There is light at the end of the tunnel.

Our "Come Follow Me" group meets at the Goodman's tonight. We left a little late and the Goodman's and the Peeler's were waiting for us when we arrived. After going over the lesson Barbara served us all apple crisp with whipped cream. It was delicious! She gave me the recipe so I can fix it for the missionaries when they come over for dinner later in the week.

When I got home I finished blogging then read James another chapter from Aunt Dimity. I got 12,000 steps before going to bed.

My breakfast. I'm trying to eat more protein.

1 Nephi 19:10
And the God of our fathers, who were led out of Egypt, out of bondage, and also were preserved in the wilderness by him, yea, the God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, yieldeth himself, according to the words of the angel, as a man, into the hands of wicked men, to be lifted up, according to the words of Zenock, and to be crucified, according to the words of Neum, and to be buried in a sepulchre, according to the words of Zenos, which he spake concerning the three days of darkness, which should be a sign given of his death unto those who should inhabit the isles of the sea, more especially given unto those who are of the house of Israel.

"Holiness and the Plan of Happiness"
President Henry B. Eyring
"That experience in the Salt Lake Temple lasted only a moment. Yet the memory of it still brings peace, joy, and quiet happiness. I learned many lessons that day. One was that the Holy Ghost speaks in a still, small voice. I can hear Him when there is spiritual peace in my heart. He brings a feeling of happiness and assurance that I am becoming more holy. And that always brings the happiness I felt in those first moments in a temple of God."

I slept in until six this morning. It was a long, though rewarding, day yesterday.

I spent the morning studying and preparing and we were almost late for church. Thank goodness the Howard's saved us a spot by them.
Today is the Vernon ward conference. President Joshua Beeler is presiding. I can't see the stake presidency from my angle and now I am wondering if President Alder was there. I have not seen or heard from him since he was called. Today was no exception. I have met and spoken with and been taught by President Smithson though.

Tildy's name was read in as the newest member of our ward. Ulisses Escarta is to be ordained a priest in the Aaronic priesthood.

Bishop Hunsaker was the first speaker. Surprise, surprise, he had on a regular tie. It was a nice one he said belonged to his dad.
Bishop spoke on renew and review. He spoke about being set apart six weeks ago as the bishop of the Vernon ward. He then talked about enduring to the end. I don't think he was specifically referring to himself, but to all of us. Come unto the Savior. We sometimes struggle with competing priorities. Stay focused on your covenants with the Savior. Think of the blessings of an Eternal family living with Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ forever. Renew weekly during the sacrament and draw closer to Him. Ponder the truths of the scriptures, the Book of Mormon and living prophets. Strive not to be distracted. Yield your hearts to God. The Holy Ghost changes our very natures. Giving in, giving up, and getting out are not options. Average is the enemy to excellence. Daily discipleship determines our destiny.

The ward choir sang: "Abide with Me" - They are small but they sounded very good. These are the members of the choir who sang today: Lorraine Vaught, Anthony Romyak, Virgil Cooper, Dave Westbrook, Marlee and Amy Reynolds, Donna Peeler, Chris Brady, Alicia Hunsaker, Becky Chandler and her 10 year old daughter, Tamara Applegate, and Debra Brewer. Kathy Crane was the director and Pierce Goodman accompanied on the piano.

President Beeler: I pray the Lord will abide with us and that we will have the companionship of the Holy Ghost. It changes everything when we invite the Savior into our lives. He thanked our ward for cleaning the temple last night. He can always depend on the Vernon ward. He commented on the reverence during the Sacrament. He said the reverence had an inspiring effect on him. He shared Alma 34:9 - For it is expedient that an atonement should be made; for according to the great plan of the Eternal God there must be an atonement made, or else all mankind must unavoidably perish; yea, all are hardened; yea, all are fallen and are lost, and must perish except it be through the atonement which it is expedient should be made. He mentioned Alma 13 and said we must follow the Savior because of His perfection. He spoke about the new temple recommend questions that President Nelson covered in his Closing Remarks of General Conference. He then asked, "Why does the presiding authority get the sacrament first?" It is not to put himself above anyone else. It is because he needs the cleansing power of the Atonement as he serves others in his stake. He said we must Follow the Covenant Path. All things point to Christ. Casual obedience weakens faith. Slow down and develop a relationship with Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is the living water He provide relief, power, and strength. He then quoted Elder Bednar by saying we must have ears to hear, and eyes to see the Lord in our lives. Faith increases as we focus on Christ. "Do you follow the teachings of Jesus Christ in your private and public behavior with your family and others?" Make the necessary changes to be prepared for His Second Coming.

The next hour the adult men and women were combined and taught by President Smithson in the chapel. President Smithson opened by asking if we remember when President Nelson came to Cardinal Stadium last February and what the message of his talk was? The message was the importance of the gathering of Israel. I actually found my notes on my blog on my phone. He spoke about the importance of the Abrahamic Covenant and how it blesses us as we gather Israel. Someone read 3 Nephi 27:21-22: Verily, verily, I say unto you, this is my gospel; and ye know the things that ye must do in my church; for the works which ye have seen me do that shall ye also do; for that which ye have seen me do even that shall ye do; Therefore, if ye do these things blessed are ye, for ye shall be lifted up at the last day.
We had a discussion on ways we can gather Israel:
Tamara - minister to our children at home
3 Nephi 10:6 - O ye house of Israel whom I have spared, how oft will I gather you as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, if ye will repent and return unto me with full purpose of heart.
How can we expect to gather Israel if we can't gather our family to participate in the "Come Follow Me" lessons?
Sister Porter 1stC in Stake Relief Society - Told the story of a hen in the fires in Australia who was laying on her nest. She died but when they moved her off her next several baby chicks came running out. She had made the ultimate sacrifice to save her children.
Rosie - I am writing letters sharing my testimony to inactive family members
Millie - I am doing temple work
Sister Porter - We can minister by giving service to others
Sheba Myers - Share my testimony with others
Bishop Miller - The spirit of the temple is one of the ways God ministers to us
Michelle Tesarek - I felt a part of the gathering as others accepted me into the gospel
Denice Hall - Be an example everywhere you are
Lorraine - Keep confidences
Paula - Use social media in a positive way to share the gospel.
It was a good meeting and James, Jean and I really enjoyed it.

After the block the Elders Quorum was set apart by stake leaders.
Chuck Crane was set apart by President Beeler.
Gary Thompson was set apart by Brother Wright, the high councilman assigned to our ward.
James was set apart by President Smithson. Each setting apart was unique and different blessings were given to each individual. President Smithson said that James would always be guided by the Spirit. He would receive help and inspiration for temple and family history work. James felt very good after the blessing.

Maxine, Brother Thompson's wife, and I had to find our presidency who is meeting with the Stake Relief Society presidency. They were in the chapel waiting for us. We went in to a small classroom and offered a prayer before our discussion. Our stake leaders are: Sister Beverly Wilcock, Stake Relief Society President, Stefani Hunsaker, 1st counselor. Stefani was not at the meeting as she is out of town. That's okay because she is in our ward and we all know her very well. Judy Porter, 2nd counselor, and Linda Patterson, secretary. Sister Patterson was just released as the RS president in the Show Low Creek ward and she made a lot of comments and gave us some good advice. President Wilcock said they are going to start an email group where we can discuss items pertaining to Relief Society. We all thought that was a good idea. It was good to get to know our stake leaders on a personal basis. I am sure if we have any questions we can go to them and receive good advice.

This afternoon we FaceTimed with Jared, Kacey, and Charlie. We sang "Eeensy Weensy Spider" with Charlie. Jared told us about his talk on the Book of Mormon in his sacrament meeting today. He also taught in the Priests quorum. Summer's boyfriend Jake, attended both meetings although he is a nonmember. He heard Jared speak about the Book of Mormon and then give a lesson on the Restoration. Jared wonders if he has any questions or is totally confused.

This evening I watched "Teaching with Power" 1 Nephi 16-22. This is a power point presentation with some really good information. He says 1 Nephi 16-17 should have three headings: The Ball, the Bow, and the Boat. Now I can remember that!

"The Second Great Commandment"
President Russell M. Nelson
October 2019
"Latter-day Saint Charities has provided more than two billion dollars in aid to assist those in need throughout the world. This assistance is offered to recipients regardless of their church affiliation, nationality, race, sexual orientation, gender, or political persuasion.  This is not all. To assist members of the Lord's Church in distress, we love and live the ancient law of the fast. We go hungry to help others who are hungry. One day each month, we go without food and donate the cost of that food and money, to help those in need."

We left at 5:41 this morning for the Snowflake temple. We brought two dozen rolls and one dozen cinnamon rolls I had in the freezer. On the way over we listened to scriptures and conference talks and I did a little sleeping.

The Palmer's presided over our preparation meeting. President Palmer discussed the new ceremonial clothes that will be available at the end of March. We watched three training videos. One was the importance of smiling at the front desk so the first impression people get of the temple is a positive one.

I started out at the sealing desk downstairs and was there for an hour. The Merrill's came in with names and so did the Bowen's. These are regular temple attenders who are always working on family names. The Bowen's had lots of Scandinavian names but I guess they have trained Brother Flake how to say them. At least that's what his wife said when she came to take over at the sealing desk.

I visited with Sister Cochran and Sister Lofgreen during my break.
After my break I was the presenter at veil 2 and then I was "as assigned." During my as assigned I continued my reading of the Old Testament chapter headings. I am about half way through Isaiah.

I spent an hour in the baptistry. Although the rest of the temple was rather slow, we had no weddings or own endowees, the baptistry was very busy. Sister Caldwell said they hadn't had a break all morning and as I left another large group was coming in.

I worked in initiatory, locker room and was the presenter at veil 2 for the 11:00 session. I was scheduled to do initiatory after being at the veil but because the veil time went over, I was 15 minutes late. Sister Hancock said the only patron was a worker and they had her covered so I got off 15 minutes early.

I went down to the break room and had a cupcake. It's been a long time since my morning break. James went outside to get my phone and to get in a few steps before the 1:30 session which we attended.

I was so tired that at one point I fell asleep and a sister had to tap me on the should to wake me up. I hope that never happens again.

For the second week in a row Sister Andersen from Flagstaff, was my presenter at the veil.

After our session we went to Eva's Mexican Food in downtown Snowflake. I had a chicken enchilada with rice and beans, same old thing I almost always have. James had a seafood enchilada and a tostada.

We are scheduled to clean the temple tonight at 6:30 so we had some time to kill after lunch. I suggested we go to Walmart to walk, which we did. While we were there I also bought some tea, Citrus Sunshine, Apple Cinnamon, and Cinnamon Orange. The Walmart in Show Low has none of these flavors right now.

We drove back to the temple and parked so we could see Greens Peak, Mt. Montoso, and Negra Knoll, all mountains over by Vernon.

We walked around the temple a couple of times and then James got in the car to take a short nap. I sat down to redo my daily schedule.

Around 6:00 we walked in to the temple with our friend Kerri Halcomb. We signed in and got our temple cleaning clothes on. We were so happy to have 19 people from our ward attend. The Show Low Creek ward had 10 people. These our the ward members who came to help us clean: Kerri Halcomb, Virgil Cooper, Anthony Romyak, Jerry Scott, Becky and Chris Skousen, Jim and Linda Diewald, Barbara and Fred Klug, Pierce Goodman, Blain Curtis, Alicia and Bishop Hunsaker, MaKenzi and Tyler Forrester, and Ron Chandler, plus James and I.

James and I dusted the two ordinances rooms, the wood in the hallway and on the stairs. It was a lot but pretty easy.

We were home before nine o'clock. When we got home I finished my steps and then James made us herbal tea and then we watched "Hearts of Winter" starring Jill Wagner and Victor Webster, two of our favorite Hallmark actors. It was a long day and this was a good way to unwind.

I am so grateful for the temple!

"Deceive Me Not"
Elder Gary E. Stevenson
Oct 2019
"These are stories of mistaken identity - presuming the real thing to be something else. In each case, the consequences were minor.
However, many today grapple with these same issues on a much larger scale. They are either unable to see things as they truly are or are unsatisfied with truth. Moreover, there are forces at play today designed to deliberately lead us away from absolute truth. These deceptions and lies go far beyond innocent mistaken identity and often have dire, not miner, consequences."

When Darrel called to wish James a happy birthday, he also told him that Peter Ray had been called as a bishop in his ward. I texted Sheri and told her because she is one of Peter's patients. She said, "He will make a great bishop." Jared said the same thing.

I cleaned our bedroom and bathroom today. No matter how many times I clean James's mirror, it always has water drops on it. I think it happens when he combs his hair and he doesn't even know it.

I paid the propane bill of $1,500 today. James ordered from Owens because they were the cheapest, but they don't take credit cards so I had to write a check. Ouch to my bank account.

Around 10:00 this morning I left for town. I have a lunch appointment with Pam Giles and her friend Jen at the Aliberto's in Wagon Wheel. My first stop was at the post office where I picked up a couple of books I ordered. I wanted to go to the carwash before lunch but there was no time. Had I known Pam and Jen were going to be a little late, I would have gone to the carwash.

I ordered the Arizona burro even though I didn't see it on the menu. Jen and Pam were both ordering one too and they convinced me that it is delicious. Steak with potatoes, chesse and pico de gallo.
They were right, it is delicious!

I have always liked Jen and been impressed with her gentle spirit. Now I even love her more. She has her brother and his family, which includes triplet girls and a toddler, and her mother-in-law living with her. Pam was telling about Jen's boss, Pam's former boss, who she considers mean and she has a mean gang of girls that hang out with her. Pam tries to avoid them. Jen just walks past them and greets them with a "hello".

I enjoyed my visit with these two friends and look forward to our next lunch date!

I went to Walmart to get James bigger shirts. The ones I got him for his birthday were too small. I got three instead of two. They did not have the black and red checked one in his size. Boohoo!
James told me that today was Tanna's birthday so I got her a small cake and a birthday balloon to go with the card we signed for her.
I'm going to wait to take it to her until James can go too.

On the way home I stopped at Splash and Dash to wash my car. I did not get gas.

When I got home James had taken his bumper off his truck and has found a new one online in Show Low. He won't go look at it until next week.

James also finished the dust control permits for the Chacon job. Mario is upset with James and Armando and has halted construction on the job. James and Armando have bent over backwards to please him and be fair, but he doesn't understand. There is a communication problem and James thinks his nephew, who is the translator, is not giving the correct information. It is a big mess and I don't know what will happen.

I texted Tanna and asked her if we could come by and see her for a few minutes. She said she was gone and wouldn't be back until late tonight. I asked if we could drop something by for her birthday and she said yes, so off we went. James taped the card to the cake, and left the cake and the balloon on the steps by the door. She texted later and said the cake was delicious and thanked us.

I made rolls for the temple tomorrow and was trying to wash my dress and James's shirt when the washer broke. I had washed the rug by the front door earlier and there were little pieces of rubber all over inside the drum. I wonder if that's what's causing the problem.

We rinsed our clothes out by hand and put them in the dryer. James said he would look at the washer on Monday and if need be would call a repairman.

The hem partially came out of my temple dress so I spent a good part of the evening re-hemming it. We wanted to go to bed by nine but it was closer to ten.
