"Room in the Inn"
Elder Gerrit W. Gong
Of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles
With compassion, the Good Samaritan stops and binds our wounds with wine and oil. Symbols of the sacrament and other ordinances, the wine and oil point us to the spiritual healing in Jesus Christ. The Good Samaritan puts us on His own donkey or, ..., carries us on His shoulders. He brings us to the inn, which can represent His Church. At the Inn, the Good Samaritan says, "Take care of him; ... when I come again, I will repay thee." The Good Samaritan, a symbol of our Savior, promises to return, this time in majesty and glory.

We believe in the same organization that existed in the Primitive Church, namely, apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers, evangelists, and so forth.
When we left Darrel and Trina's this morning everyone was gone except Trina. I gave her a hug and told her to share it with everyone else. Earlier I had heard Ruby playing "Day Dream Believer" before she went to school.
I went with James to his appointment at the urologist and waited in the truck. I read from the book my friend Maxine gave me for my birthday, "Glorious Truths About Emma Smith." It got to be a little warm so I rolled up the windows and turned on the air conditioner.
I got to Arizona Arthritis and Rheumatology Associates around 10:15. We stopped on the way over to get gas at Costco. The cost today was $2.89 a gallon. It is 3.04 everywhere else. Frances called me right back. I told Tiffany she was the gold standard of phlebotomists. She never hurts me or has difficulty finding a vein.
My infusion started at 10:24 and it takes an hour. I sent a text to James. He is over at Chacon's doing some touchup work.
The TV was on as it always is in the infusion center. Kelly and Ryan was on first. They did a story about a former professional baseball player turned high school teacher. He turned an old tennis court at his school into a garden and a pond with tilapia. The waste from the tilapia converts to nitrates and is used to fertilize the garden. The kids are involved in this project and are learning by doing. They all love their teacher! This is the kind of news story that I like to hear!
On Hooda and Jenna I learned a new word. The word is cheugy, pronounced chew-gee. It is a noun: Someone who is untrendy, tacky, out of date, or trying to hard, such as someone who wears socks with sandals.
James picked me up around 11:30 and we drove to Chandler Eyecare. He dropped me off and drove back to Chacon's. Sheri took me to lunch at Olive Garden. She suggested Firebirds but I told her they no longer have my coconut shrimp so we decided on Olive Garden. Sheri had the same thing she has had when we've gone their before, soup - salad - and breadsticks. She always gets the chicken gnocchi soup. This time I got salad and a lunch portion of ravioli with meat sauce. Very tasty. No dessert although I love their cheesecake with fresh strawberries.
We went back to Chandler Eyecare and Sheri went back to work while I borrowed her car. I have an appointment at 2:15 so I have about an hour or so to do some shopping. I went to the Costco in Chandler because yesterday we forgot to get James's shakes. There is a Target right by the Costco in Chandler so that's where I went next.
I need some summer tops, especially if I am going to be down here the first week of June. I got one at Costco and two more at Target. I also got myself a new purse at Target. I think I am a purse junky.
When I left Target to go back to Chandler Eyecare, I was sufficiently warm. I remember why I don't like it here in the summertime.
Lindsey at Chandler Eyecare took me back to do all of the tests on the machines. She is home from BYU and is Dr. Giles's daughter. She loves Sheri! Dr VanOver did my exam. I didn't know she knew Jared. We had a nice visit. I really like her. Sheri ordered my lenses. I am keeping my same frames. She also ordered me some pink sun glasses. She didn't charge me anything. When I told her I wanted to pay, she said she was waiting to see what the lab was going to charge. While I was waiting for James to pick me up I visited with Nancy. Her son lives in Snowflake so we talked about good places to eat in Snowflake. She said Streets on Main was great. I told her about Eva. She told me about the R Lazy J Ranch in Eagar which is a great place to take kids. She showed me pictures of the camel with her family. She also gave me some cute masks. I love Nancy and Shayna, and Sheri, all at Chandler Eyecare.
James had ordered himself a machaca burro at Elmer's so we picked that up along with some strips. It smelled so good! We went home the Payson way and stopped in Payson for ice cream. We noticed the gas in Payson was $2.85, even cheaper than Costco. It was dusk when we got home and James went immediately out to feed Luna but Chuck had already fed her. It is great to be home.
Addy texted me yesterday and asked me this question: How do you think writing in a journal has benefited your life?
Here was my answer:
So many ways! I was just looking through some of my older journals and reading about you guys when you were younger. It brought back such wonderful memories! Once when I was Primary President I was in a ward council discussing a little girl who was less active. Someone mentioned the ward didn't have a baptismal record for her and they weren't sure she had been baptized. I knew she had because I had been there and could prove it because I had written it in my journal. When grandpa and I have a disagreement about something that has happened, I look in my journal and usually the argument is settled. My journal reminds me of the changes in my life over the years, of the many people I have met and loved, and how truly blessed I am! I also try to record my testimony and spiritual experiences and all the miracles and tender mercies of the Lord.
Someone said, "If you want to be remembered, keep a journal."
I added this later: I just wanted to tell you something Ruby read on my blog. Something you said when you were 8. You and I were walking to Zupas by the house you lived in, in Mesa, and you said you didn't like being outside. I said, "but your mom loves being outside." you said, "yea, I don't know how we are even related." I'm sure you wouldn't say that now. Just shows you how we all change.
Today is my brother Dennis's birthday. He is six years younger than I am. He is 67. I texted him and wished him a Happy Birthday plus James and I sent him a card.
