Jesus Christ, Appearances, Postmortal
Mark 16:9
Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils.
Book of Mormon
3 Nephi 10:1-19
*How have you seen Christ work in your life like a "hen gathering her chickens under her wings" for protection?
- A hen cares for her chicks and would sacrifice her life to protect them. When danger threatens, she gathers the chicks under her wings for protection. In a similar way, the Lord loves his people, the house of Israel. He gave His life for His people and has sought to gather the together so he could protect and nourish them. President Henry B. Eyring said: "More than once He has said that He would gather us to Him as a hen would gather her chickens under her wings. He says that we must choose to come to Him in meekness and with enough faith in Him to repent with full purpose of heart. (3 Nephi 10:6). One way to do that is to gather with the Saints in His Church. Go to your meetings, even when it seems hard. If you are determined, He will help you find the strength to do it" (CR, Apr. 2004, 16-17; or Ensign, May 2004, 18).

18 Whatever principle of intelligence we attain unto in this life, it will rise with us in the resurrection.
19 And if a person gains more knowledge and intelligence in this life through his diligence and obedience than another, he will have so much the advantage in the world to come.

Isaiah 9:6
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
How can I better honor Jesus Christ in His many titles and responsibilities?

Lord, Wilt Thou Cause That My Eyes May Be Opened
Elder W. Craig Zwick
"I began teaching this missionary who wanted to go home, about the sacred nature of his call. I encouraged him to 'forget himself and go to work.' But no matter what formula I offered, his mind did not change. It finally occurred to me that I might not have the whole picture. It was then that I felt a prompting to ask him the question: 'Elder, what is hard for you?' What he said pierced my heart. 'President, I can't read.'

James and I worked at the Snowflake temple this morning for the Diewalds. They are gone and had asked the Crane's to work for them but since Chuck was released as a temple worker, Kathy asked us if we would work. We were glad to do it. I noticed there were several people from our shift who were there. I asked Sister Bradshaw if she works every Saturday with her husband and she said yes. I guess that is true for many. We are scheduled to work on the 2nd and the 4th Saturdays.

I met a Sister Nelson and she asked if we could work for them on November 4th and they would work for us on October 28th. We said we would. She lived in Gilbert so I asked if she the DeWitt's. She said yes, her husband was a fireman with Colin in Phoenix and Gilbert. She told me to ask Colin if he knew Willie Nelson.

President and Sister Scott presided at the temple today. They are my favorites. Their daughter is expecting triplets at the end of the month, just at the time of their releases.

We were very busy at the temple today. There were two people getting their own endowments, two sealings, including at least one beautiful bride.

My first assignment was some alone time in the Celestial Room. As I sat there in that beautiful room pondering on some of the challenges of life, I realized how holy our lives really are. I felt very close to Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.

Sister R. Wilhelm from our ward helped me with my assignment as the credenza greeter. The credenza is where patrons can pick up the temple ordinance cards they have completed or where they can pick up a name to do. I now understand the system.

I had an hour to study the initiatory ordinances today. I did a session and did a name for one of the sisters in our ward.

James took our 13 baptism cards and all of them were done today. Now we will go next week and get the initiatories done.

On the way home James dropped me off at Walmart while he got us some lunch at Arby's. I had to get ingredients to make another cake for Hailey. I ended up spending over $100. It is hard to believe how expensive groceries are these days.

We came home, watched at episode of Heartland, "Step by Step" and then I worked on my blog and did some steps. Around 6 p.m. we left for stake conference. We saw a three car accident on the way. We went on the 60. I think every emergency vehicle in Show Low responded.

We made it to the stake center in Lakeside in plenty of time and sat right up front and center. This was one of the best Saturday night stake conferences I can remember attending, even though we had no visiting authorities.

Here are some of my notes:

President Bealer made a plea for more couple missionaries, quoting prophets and apostles.
President Jensen was the first speaker. He announced that the theme of our conference is: "To become and help others become true followers of the Savior and to come to the temple."
Raising a sin-resistant generation. "Teaching in the Savior's Way" is like Parenting 101. Are we using doctrine, the word of God, in teaching our children? 3 Nephi 18: "... continue to minister and come unto me with full purpose of heart." Be an example! Our children and grandchildren need our time. Grandsons week and grandaughters week at grandparents house.
Sister Tanner - Keep loving, trying, and trusting. Rock bottom can be a good foundation. Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not unto thine own understanding. "You are the only one that can make you happy." Attitude makes the difference in any circumstance. Prayer is the answer. Enjoy the now. Learn to be happy with what we have now.
Bishop and Sister Berges (Sister Berges is President Shumway's sister) "We must protect our nestlings." Boyd K. Packer.
Satan has found a way into our homes. The 3 T's of fighting pornography. 1.) Technology. Cell phones are the number one place that pornography is viewed. General restrictions on cell phones. Bishop Berges showed how to set restrictions on a smart phone. They also have their children turn in their cell phones at 9 p.m. every night.
2.) Talking. Sister Berges says she is the queen of awkward conversation. We cannot be afraid to tackle hard topics with our children!
3.) Teaching. The greatest thing we can teach our children is how to recognize the Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost is the greatest filter there is.
Prayerfully studying the Book of Mormon will strengthen us against pornography. Satan does not fight fair. The Lord loves us and will protect us as we come unto Him. Parents are the instruments the Lord is using to protect His children.

President Shumway - We must be more vigilant in protecting against pornography. There is always hope. President Shumway spoke about "Prophetic Priorities."
1.) Prophets and the Book of Mormon. Mosiah 18:19 - teach nothing save that spoken by the prophets.
DC 43:8-10 - Pattern our teaching after the Savior's way of teaching.
DC 1:14 - Hear His voice or be cut off.
2 Nephi 31:3 - For my soul delighteth in plainness; for after this manner doth the Lord God work among the children of men. For the Lord God giveth light unto the understandin; for he speaketh unto men according to their language, unto their understanding.
President Shumway told about the Book of Mormon experiement. Pages from the Book of Mormon were given to random people and they were to mark references to God. They then interviewed several people and the responses to the Book of Mormon were very positive.
Every 1.7 verses in the Book of Mormon has a reference to God.
2.) Going to the Rescue. We watched the Bible video of Jesus healing a lame man on the Sabbath. John 5:2-12. Luke 15:4-5. We must be more willing to rescue others!
3.) Temple and Family History Work - As we save our ancestors and do their temple ordinances they will help fight our battles for us. Our hearts change when we do service for our ancestors.
4.)The Sabbath day - Who can we help today? The Sabbath Day is God's time. We don't do our pleasures on the Sabbath but what we do can be pleasureable. Which side of the line am I on? President Monson's testimony of the Savior.

3 Nephi 9:1-22
*What do you think it means to offer a sacrifice of a broken heart and a contrite spirit? What blessings does the Savior promise to those who come unto Him with a broken heart and a contrite spirit?
-Elder D. Todd Christofferson: "You can offer the Lord the gift of your broken, or repentant, heart and your contrite, or obedient, spirit. In reality, it is the gift of yourself - what you are and what you are becoming. Is there something in you or in your life that is impure or unworthy? When you get rid of it, that is a gift to the Savior. Is there a good habit or quality that is lacking in your life? When you adopt it and make it part of your character, you are giving a gift to the Lord" (GC April 2004, or Ensign, May 2004, 12).

34 Behold, there are many called, but few are chosen. And why are they not chosen?
35 Because their hearts are set so much upon the things of this world, and aspire to the honors of men, that they do not learn this one lesson -
36 That the rights of the priesthood are inseparably connected with the powers of heaven, and that the powers of heaven cannot be controlled nor handled only upon the principles of righteousness.

Turn to the Lord
Bishop W. Christopher Waddell
"How do we respond when events, often out of our control, alter the life we had planned or hoped for? Hyrum Shumway lost his sight in World War II, but he never doubted his divine nature and eternal potential. Like him, we are spirit sons and daughters of God, and we accepted His plan by which we could obtain a physical body and gain earthly experience to progress toward perfection and ultimately realize our divine destiny as heirs of eternal life.'
No amount of change, trial, or opposition can alter that eternal course - only our choices, as we exercise our agency."

I felt the Spirit today reading about Hyrum Shumway in Bishop Waddell's.  I also felt the Spirit when I read "Jesus Christ: Our Sure Foundation" in the month's Ensign. The article is by Elder W. Craig Zwick. He lists four ways to build our lives upon the sure foundation of Jesus Christ: 1) Listen to the Holy Ghost, 2) Nurture your faith, 3) Keep the commandments, and 4) Follow the Prophets.

From my book,"Prophetic Events of the Last Days," this quote by President Hinckley: "From the day of Cain to the present, the adversary has been the great mastermind of the terrible conflicts that have brought so much suffering. Treachery and terrorism began with him And they will continue until the Son of God returns to rule and reign with peace and righteousness. . . . Our safety lies in repentance. Our strength comes of obedience to the commandments of God" ("The Times in Which We Live," Ensign, Nov. 2001, 72).

We read a chapter from "Miss Leslie's Secret," and then James went to town. He wanted me to go with him but I told him I would stay home and fix him a nice meal instead. I fixed an Italian Beef Soup from a recipe I got off of Facebook. The only problem is I didn't get it into the crockpot until 12 and it is supposed to cook nine hours.

I actually caught up on my blog today which made me very happy. I worked on family history by getting the names I got off the "Take a Name" app, the ones that need baptism, so we can take them with us to the temple tomorrow.

It was windy today. James moved the tractor and the trailer up on  the hill but he is still having problems with the CAT. He set some traps to see if he could catch the rats that are chewing the wires in two.

Oh, by the way, the Italian Beef Soup is delicious!
We watched an episode of Heartland, "Full Circle."

Elk season started today. Gail's friend Paul
got his elk this morning. I think the young guy
with him was his guide.

James has a love/hate relationship with ladders.
He loves to climb them but hates to fall off.
Here he is cleaning the pine needles out of the gutters.

Abraham 1:15-16
And as they lifted up their hands upon me, that they might offer me up and take away my life, behold, I lifted up my voice unto the Lord my God, and the Lord hearkened and heard, and he filled me with the vision of the Almighty, and the angel of his presence stood by me, and immediately unloosed my hands;
16 And his voice was unto me: Abraham, Abraham, behold, my name is Jehovah, and I have heard thee, and have come down to deliver thee, and to take thee away from thy father's house, and from all thy kinsfolk, into a strange land which thou knowest not of;
Book of Mormon
3 Nephi 8:5-25
*How can we prepare today for the Savior's Second Coming?
-Be obedient and be worthy to always have the Spirit to be with you. One of the calamities of the last days is the disintegration of the family. Keep your family members close and create a feeling of unity through Christlike love.
Doctrine Covenants Scripture Mastery
DC 89:18-21
18 And all saints who remember to keep and do these sayings, walking in obedience to the commandments, shall receive health in their navel and marrow to their bones;
19 And shall find wisdom and great treasures of knowledge, even hidden treasures;
20 And shall run and not be weary, and shall walk and not faint.
21 And I, the Lord, give unto them a promise, that the destroying angel shall pass by them, as the children of Israel, and not slay them. Amen.

Exceeding Great and Precious Promises
Elder David A. Bednar
"One of the great challenges each of us faces every day is to not allow the concerns of this world to so dominate our time and energy that we neglect the eternal things that matter most. We can be too easily diverted from remembering and focusing upon essential spiritual priorities because of our many responsibilities and busy schedules. Sometimes we try to run so fast that we may forget where we are going and why we are running."

I am concerned that James is wearing himself out mixing and pouring this concrete by hand.

James had two mechanics here working on the Cat. They charge $110 an hour. It ended up costing #380. All the wires had been chewed in two by some rat.

We had enchiladas and salad again today for lunch. It was a cooler and overcast day with a threat of rain. James said it did actually rain at Home Depot.

I worked upstairs today. I found all the animals to my Noah's ark and put them out. I also made a chocolate cake for Hailey's birthday tomorrow and then she cancelled until Monday so James and I had to eat the cake. It was delicious!

Darrel walked 23,000 steps one day and 29,000 steps in New York. That's where they are today. They were going out to the Statue of Liberty when he was texting me.  Here are some photos:

Moses 7:47
And behold, Enoch saw the day of the coming of the Son of Man, even in the flesh; and his soul rejoiced, saying: The Righteous is lifted up, and the Lamb is slain from the foundation of the world; and through faith I am in the bosom of the Father, and behold, Zion is with me.
Book of Mormon
3 Nephi 7:15-8:4
*What part does the Holy Ghost play in conversion?
-As we exercise faith, repent of our sins, and obey the commandments, we receive a witness born of the Spirit that the gospel of Jesus Christ is true. We are visited "by the power and Spirit of God," (v. 21). As we listen to testimonies of apostles and prophets, the Spirit testifies of truth and touches hearts that are humble and teachable.
*How can we become more deeply converted? What lack I yet? How can we be a better influence for good
- Without the Holy Spirit we will not know what is truth and it will not prick our heart to change. A mighty change of heart to completely follow the Savior and His gospel is an indication of true conversion and happens through the power of the Holy Ghost.

Has the Day of Miracles Ceased?
Elder Donald L. Hallstrom
"Often we describe a miracle as being healed without a full explanation by medical science or as avoiding catastrophic danger by heeding a clear prompting. However, defining a miracle as a 'beneficial event brought about through divine power that mortals do not understand gives an expanded perspective into matters more eternal in nature.' This definition also allows us to contemplate the vital role of faith in the receipt of a miracle."

Here are some of the things I am trying to memorize right now:
Ponderize: Exodus 40:12-13
12 And thou shalt bring Aaron and his sons unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and wash them with water.
13 And thou shalt put upon Aaron the holy garments, and anoint him, and sanctify him.
Family Proclamation: "We, the First Presidency and the Council of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints, solemnly proclaim that marriage between a man and a woman is ordained of God ant that the family is central to the Creator's plan for the eternal destiny of His children."
The Living Christ: "As we commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ two millennial ago, we offer our testimony of the reality of His matchless life and the infinite virtue of His great atoning sacrifice.
My Patriarchal Blessing: "By the authority I hold as a patriarch, I place my hands upon your head, and in response to your desires, give you a blessing.

My friend Pam texted me this morning. She read 117 pages from the Book of Mormon last night. That's what happens when you don't have television, you do important things instead.

Darrel and Trina are in Boston. It's a great time of year to be back East. I would love to go to Vermont!

He says they didn't know his name.
I'm glad.

I made chicken enchiladas with red sauce today for lunch. I also made a salad. Everything was quite delicious!

This salad dressing is delicious!

James is becoming politically active on a local level. He got involved with the prescribed burn and now he is taking on the Vernon School Board. Our property taxes for this year were $2,800, a significant hike from last year. When we looked at the statement we realized that $2,400 is for the Vernon school. We have one school in our district with 100 students. The president of the school board is in our ward and when Chuck  asked him why his school taxes went up 150% he said because there are alot of poor people in Vernon and they don't pay their property taxes. James is so upset and so is Chuck, and Colin DeWitt. They will be at the next school board meeting.

James called Verizon and got I bill lowered by $50. We are getting rid of my tablet, a jetpack and we will be doing autopay. I think he might cancel our appointment with Wi-Power. He also poured concrete and worked on his equipment. It was a busy day.

I went in to town to buy gifts for Hailey and Taylor. I am Hailey's visiting teacher and Taylor's Primary teacher. I also got some rice milk for James at Safeway because Walmart no longer carries it. While in Safeway I saw Denise and her mom Peg. They had just returned from Zion's and Bryce National Park.

This evening we read a chapter from "Miss Leslie's Secret," watched The Love Struck Cafe and Heartland, "Dark Horse."

Moses 1:11
But now mine own eyes have beheld God; but not my natural, but my spiritual eyes, for my natural eyes could not have beheld; for I should have withered and died in his presence; but his glory was upon me; and I beheld his face, for I was transfigured before Him.
Book of Mormon
3 Nephi 7:1-14
*How and why is Satan trying to divide people today?
-When there is division in the gospel, or any message really, we cannot move forward. It stops progress. It stops every good thing. It stops love and kindness. We have been counseled that when we are not one, then we are not His. Satan knows his time is running out and that in the last days even the elect will be deceived. There is no strength in division. We become weak and find our hearts seeking other treasures than God's kingdom. What must we do personally to be more humble and repentant in a divided world?
How will I seek peace and feel hope despite so much corruption in this world?

DC 84:33-39
33 For whoso is faithful unto the obtaining these two priesthoods of which I have spoken, and the magnifying their calling, are sanctified by the Spirit unto the renewing of their bodies.
34 They become the sons of Moses and of Aaron and the seed of Abraham, and the church and kingdom, and the elect of God.
35 And also all they who receive this priesthood receive me, saith the Lord;
36 For he that receiveth my servants receiveth me;
37 And he that receiveth me receiveth my Father;
38 And he that receiveth my Father receiveth my Fathers kingdom; therefore all that my Father hath shall be given unto him.
39 And this is according to the oath and covenant which belongeth to the priesthood.

That Your Joy Might Be Full
Jean B. Bingham
"How do we find joy despite the difficulties of mortal life? Lasting joy is found in focusing on our Savior, Jesus Christ, and living the gospel as demonstrated and taught by Him. The more we learn about, have faith in, and emulate Jesus Christ, the more we come to understand that He is the source of all healing peace and eternal progress. He invites each of us to come unto Him, an invitation that President Henry B. Eyring has characterized as 'the most important invitation anyone could accept.'"

Here are some other things I studied today: Mosiah 4:2, The Priesthood and Church Government in the Doctrine Covenants Student Manual, my patriarchal blessing, the Ensign, the Proclamation to the World on the Family, The Living Christ, "Prophetic Events in the Latter Days," Alma 5:30, and the New Era.

The first thing I saw when I looked outside this morning was smoke. James was so upset he took action. His friend Anthony gave him a number to call and then Anthony took his cat and headed for a motel room in Holbrook. James made phone calls, told others to make calls, and visited the website of the agency who allows the Forest Service to burn. He also did a post on Facebook. (I think Lou on Heartland inspire him when she took on the oil drillers in her neighborhood).

Our friend Judy ended up in the hospital last year with pneumonia. Others become very sick. We have had enough!!

I cleaned in the family room and living room today. I dusted, swept, cleaned and polished the wood floor. It looks beautiful! I left for town around 3:30 to do my grocery shopping. James did his errands earlier. Too bad we aren't on the same schedule.

I went to Safeway for DP10, fruits, veggies and meat. My next stop was Aliberto's for two tacos. It is Tuesday after all. Most of my time was spent and Walmart and then on the way home I had to fill the car with gas. It was after 7 when I got home. James had made his own dinner. After putting all the groceries away I finished blogging while watching Heartland: "Do or Die." We also read a chapter from "Miss Leslie's Secret."
