October 2019 GC:

"Knowing, Loving, and Growing"
Elder Hans T. Boom
"We are experiencing some of the same difficulties that Joseph Smith confronted while he was 'in the midst of a war of words and tumult of opinions.' As we read in his own account, he often said to himself: 'What is to be done? Who of all these parties are right; or, are they all wrong together? If any one of them be right, which one is it, and how shall I know it?'
With the knowledge he found in the Epistle of James, which states, 'If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him,' Joseph 'at length came to the determination to ask of God.'"

We had about 15 elk out in our field this morning. We love watching them!

James says it was 26 degrees this morning and the high was only going to be around 32. He's my weatherman. He went out without a hat or gloves and just a thin jacket and came right back in. He bundled up and went out, I am sure to check on the bunnies, and came in just a few minutes later. For someone who likes living up here he does not like the cold.

I blogged, did a little cleaning, and bought books this morning.

James got a message from Liberty Mutual saying that our home owners insurance was going to expire on the 29th because of lack of payment. Our mortgage company, Quicken Loans, is supposed to be paying our premium. I thought they were paying on a monthly basis but I guess not because LM says we owe over $2,600.
James immediately called Quicken Loans to find out what was going on. Tom is on the case and will get back to James by 5 p.m. tomorrow. The problem is they only have $2,200 in the escrow account which isn't enough for the yearly payment to Liberty.

It took me forever to finish my blog post this morning. My photo app on my computer freezes up from time to time. When I wash finished I took a reading and relaxation break. Right now I am reading, "Aunt Dimity Down Under," "The Heavens are Open," and "Revelations in Context." The last one if the stories behind the revelations in the Doctrine and Covenants. It goes right along with my study of the Restoration.

My book buying and getting my steps went clear in to the afternoon. I had to buy 6 books today because I didn't buy any yesterday. I also had to pay my Amazon Store card because it was maxed out. I raised the limit to $1,000 and used the $600 I received from Amazon to pay down the Amazon Store card. I use this card because I get a 5% discount on everything bought from Amazon. Actually that's all the card can be used for is Amazon purchases.

After I finished buying books James and I had a simple dinner of corn and toast and then I went in to set up our new printer. Since it is a wireless printer I had to make sure the printer and my computer were on the same internet. It wasn't working and I checked. The printer was on the jetpack and the computer was on the 4G so I had to switch out and get on the jetpack. After I did that it was an easy setup. I also ordered enough ink to make 300 copies for $9.99. Thanks Kacey for telling me about this program!

I ran off a few handouts for our "CFM" on Sunday and then went in to study the scriptures, 2 Nephi 26:20-33. I forgot about the five verses in 27 and will have to do those tomorrow. I also have been forgetting to do Inklings. This week we are supposed to be reading JS-History 1:1-13. I did listen to Saints Volume 1 chapter 25.

James was going to go to the valley today but since he lost his license plate he had to go in to Show Low to get a new one. He called me and told me his new license plate starts with the letter CTR. I told him that was a reminder to Choose the Right.

Jesus Christ betrayal of
Matthew 27:4
Saying, I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood. And they said, What is that to us? see thou to that.
Book of Mormon
Mosiah 16:1-15
*How are people living in darkness today? How can we help them?
- sue_heugly: " I believe more than ever people feel loneliness. David O. McKay said; The greatest battle of life is fought in the silent chambers of the soul.. Feeling alone or lonely leaves people grasping for light, for they only see darkness. We all need our alone time, our moments of meditation and prayer.. in fact we need our sacred grove moment. But we can do much to help others fight their loneliness. While it is part of life...We need never feel alone for service in the Church has everything to do with preventing loneliness. The world is filled with need people, and the gospel gives us opportunities to contribute, and turn those resources to help others cope with their loneliness, and in return it helps us with ours. Life is hard.. There will be times of loneliness, but the gospel of Jesus Christ is full of light. It helps us to engage in activities which help us not feel alone. When we think of others we feel less alone, and our light shines giving others a glimmer of hope wading thru dark times.

General Conference
"Be With and Strengthen Them"
" Our prayer today is that every man and woman will leave this general conference more deeply committed to heartfelt care for one another."

From "Rescuing Wayward Children:"
Of the priesthood's power to protect and to guide, President Harold B. Lee taught, "The temple ceremonies are designed by a wise Heavenly Father, who has revealed them to us in these last days as a guide and a protection throughout our lives. . . . We talk of security in this day, and yet we fail to understand that here on this Temple Block we have standing the holy temple wherein we may find the symbols by which power might be generated that will save this nation from destruction. Therein may be found the fulness of the blessings of the Priesthood. Certainly, if the guidance of the temple covenants and ordinances can save the nation from destruction, it can save our children."

In the New Era I read an article by Elder Robert D. Hales, "Prayer The Key to Testimony and the Restoration," and "The Savior of You" by Charlotte Larcabal. I love the New Era and this issue is all about the Savior.

I listened to a talk by President James E. Faust from the October 1997, "The Weightier Matters of the Law: Judgment, Mercy, Faith."
"The thought is Father to the deed. Focus on the good in others and what is right."

I liked this statement from Elder Holland's talk: " The Church provides a structured way for us to live the 2nd commandment."

James's mechanics finally got here. The rats chewed the wire in to on his tractor and they also chewed the instruction manual. We tried to download a schematic of the wire configuration but it wouldn't download. The guys finally left with their $440 and we were left with a tractor that still doesn't run. They told him to order a new switch, which he did.

Russell M. Nelson talk #27: "Endure and Be Lifted Up." "Energy and the will to endure are essential, energy is always required to provide lift over opposing forces."

Robert Millett: Chapter 8, "A Grace Awakening."

This was my lunch. Salad and squash with swedish meatballs and noodles. James had turkey and stuffing courteous of Marie Callender.

Well, it's time to clean. I started downstairs in the basement and ended upstairs. I only worked until 2 p.m. when I had to stop and get ready to go to the temple. We left at 2:45 for the 4 o'clock session. I was assigned the handicapped locker. I like it because it's so roomy. The session was quite full and Sister Brewer from our shift was one of the followers. Sister Sawen helped at the veil and I also saw President Scott, and the DeWitt's, Loran and Marylou.
Marylou was one of my advisors when I was a young woman.

On the way home we stopped at Home Depot to get some more lumber for the last set of shutters. We also got gas and stopped at the post office. I was hungry and it felt like it took forever to get home.

When I got home I had a slice of Sister Grapp's homemade bread with butter, some salad leftover from lunch, and an apple.

I went up and finished cleaning Sheri and Ian's room and bathroom and then we went to bed.

Jesus Christ, Appearances, Postmortal
Mark 16:9
Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils.
Book of Mormon
3 Nephi 10:1-19
*How have you seen Christ work in your life like a "hen gathering her chickens under her wings" for protection?
- A hen cares for her chicks and would sacrifice her life to protect them. When danger threatens, she gathers the chicks under her wings for protection. In a similar way, the Lord loves his people, the house of Israel. He gave His life for His people and has sought to gather the together so he could protect and nourish them. President Henry B. Eyring said: "More than once He has said that He would gather us to Him as a hen would gather her chickens under her wings. He says that we must choose to come to Him in meekness and with enough faith in Him to repent with full purpose of heart. (3 Nephi 10:6). One way to do that is to gather with the Saints in His Church. Go to your meetings, even when it seems hard. If you are determined, He will help you find the strength to do it" (CR, Apr. 2004, 16-17; or Ensign, May 2004, 18).

18 Whatever principle of intelligence we attain unto in this life, it will rise with us in the resurrection.

Isaiah 9:6
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

General Conference
Lord, Wilt Thou Cause That My Eyes May Be Opened
Elder W. Craig Zwick
"I began teaching this missionary who wanted to go home, about the sacred nature of his call. I encouraged him to 'forget himself and go to work.' But no matter what formula I offered, his mind did not change. It finally occurred to me that I might not have the whole picture. It was then that I felt a prompting to ask him the question: 'Elder, what is hard for you?' What he said pierced my heart. 'President, I can't read.'

James and I worked at the Snowflake temple this morning for the Diewalds. They are gone and had asked the Crane's to work for them but since Chuck was released as a temple worker, Kathy asked us if we would work. We were glad to do it. I noticed there were several people from our shift who were there. I asked Sister Bradshaw if she works every Saturday with her husband and she said yes. I guess that is true for many. We are scheduled to work on the 2nd and the 4th Saturdays.

I met a Sister Nelson and she asked if we could work for them on November 4th and they would work for us on October 28th. We said we would. She lived in Gilbert so I asked if she the DeWitt's. She said yes, her husband was a fireman with Colin in Phoenix and Gilbert. She told me to ask Colin if he knew Willie Nelson.

President and Sister Scott presided at the temple today. They are my favorites. Their daughter is expecting triplets at the end of the month, just at the time of their releases.

We were very busy at the temple today. There were two people getting their own endowments, two sealings, including at least one beautiful bride.

My first assignment was some alone time in the Celestial Room. As I sat there in that beautiful room pondering on some of the challenges of life, I realized how holy our lives really are. I felt very close to Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.

Sister R. Wilhelm from our ward helped me with my assignment as the credenza greeter. The credenza is where patrons can pick up the temple ordinance cards they have completed or where they can pick up a name to do. I now understand the system.

I had an hour to study the initiatory ordinances today. I did a session and did a name for one of the sisters in our ward.

James took our 13 baptism cards and all of them were done today. Now we will go next week and get the initiatories done.

On the way home James dropped me off at Walmart while he got us some lunch at Arby's. I had to get ingredients to make another cake for Hailey. I ended up spending over $100. It is hard to believe how expensive groceries are these days.

We came home, watched at episode of Heartland, "Step by Step" and then I worked on my blog and did some steps. Around 6 p.m. we left for stake conference. We saw a three car accident on the way. We went on the 60. I think every emergency vehicle in Show Low responded.

We made it to the stake center in Lakeside in plenty of time and sat right up front and center. This was one of the best Saturday night stake conferences I can remember attending, even though we had no visiting authorities.

Here are some of my notes:

President Bealer made a plea for more couple missionaries, quoting prophets and apostles.
President Jensen was the first speaker. He announced that the theme of our conference is: "To become and help others become true followers of the Savior and to come to the temple."
Raising a sin-resistant generation. "Teaching in the Savior's Way" is like Parenting 101. Are we using doctrine, the word of God, in teaching our children? 3 Nephi 18: "... continue to minister and come unto me with full purpose of heart." Be an example! Our children and grandchildren need our time. Grandsons week and grandaughters week at grandparents house.
Sister Tanner - Keep loving, trying, and trusting. Rock bottom can be a good foundation. Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not unto thine own understanding. "You are the only one that can make you happy." Attitude makes the difference in any circumstance. Prayer is the answer. Enjoy the now. Learn to be happy with what we have now.
Bishop and Sister Berges (Sister Berges is President Shumway's sister) "We must protect our nestlings." Boyd K. Packer.
Satan has found a way into our homes. The 3 T's of fighting pornography. 1.) Technology. Cell phones are the number one place that pornography is viewed. General restrictions on cell phones. Bishop Berges showed how to set restrictions on a smart phone. They also have their children turn in their cell phones at 9 p.m. every night.
2.) Talking. Sister Berges says she is the queen of awkward conversation. We cannot be afraid to tackle hard topics with our children!
3.) Teaching. The greatest thing we can teach our children is how to recognize the Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost is the greatest filter there is.
Prayerfully studying the Book of Mormon will strengthen us against pornography. Satan does not fight fair. The Lord loves us and will protect us as we come unto Him. Parents are the instruments the Lord is using to protect His children.

President Shumway - We must be more vigilant in protecting against pornography. There is always hope. President Shumway spoke about "Prophetic Priorities."
1.) Prophets and the Book of Mormon. Mosiah 18:19 - teach nothing save that spoken by the prophets.
DC 43:8-10 - Pattern our teaching after the Savior's way of teaching.
DC 1:14 - Hear His voice or be cut off.
2 Nephi 31:3 - For my soul delighteth in plainness; for after this manner doth the Lord God work among the children of men. For the Lord God giveth light unto the understandin; for he speaketh unto men according to their language, unto their understanding.
President Shumway told about the Book of Mormon experiement. Pages from the Book of Mormon were given to random people and they were to mark references to God. They then interviewed several people and the responses to the Book of Mormon were very positive.
Every 1.7 verses in the Book of Mormon has a reference to God.
2.) Going to the Rescue. We watched the Bible video of Jesus healing a lame man on the Sabbath. John 5:2-12. Luke 15:4-5. We must be more willing to rescue others!
3.) Temple and Family History Work - As we save our ancestors and do their temple ordinances they will help fight our battles for us. Our hearts change when we do service for our ancestors.
4.)The Sabbath day - Who can we help today? The Sabbath Day is God's time. We don't do our pleasures on the Sabbath but what we do can be pleasureable. Which side of the line am I on? President Monson's testimony of the Savior.

111th operating temple

2 Nephi 25:14-26
The Jews will be restored when they believe in the Messiah - He will first come six hundred years after Lehi left Jerusalem - The Nephites keep the law of Moses and believe in Christ, who is the Holy One of Israel. About 559-545 B.C.
How do you talk, rejoice, preach, and prophesy of Christ?
Alma 16:11 - Alma 17
16 - Alma and Amulek and many others preach the word - They teach that after His Resurrection Christ will appear to the Nephites.
17 - The sons of Mosiah have the spirit of prophecy and of revelation - They go their several ways to declare the word to the Lamanites - Ammon goes to the land of Ishmael and becomes the servant of King Lamoni - Ammon saves the king's flocks and slays his enemies at the water of Sebus. 77-91 B.C.
DC 38:11-20
13-22, He has reserved a land of promise for His Saints in time and in eternity;
How can we be strong, fear not and always remember the covenant that the Lord has made with us?
Speech: Always
By: Henry B. Eyring

General Conference
Fourth Floor, Last Door
President Dieter F. Uchtdorf

"Faith means that we trust not only in God's wisdom but that
we trust also in His love.  It means trusting that God
loves us perfectly, that everything He does - every blessing
He gives and every blessing He, for a time, withholds - is
for our eternal happiness.  All things will work together for good
to them that love God."

We left Cathi and Terry's at 7:21 this morning thinking that the session at the Gilbert temple started at 8 am.  I looked at the schedule one more time to be sure and realized it actually started at 7:45.  We hurried but I had not hope that we would make that session, but we did.  We also were privileged to see our friend Martin K. who is a temple worker. There were 8 brothers and 12 sisters in our session.

After session selfie.

When we get back to Cathi's Colin is happily playing in his gorilla shirt.  He seemed to be in a good mood.  Not so much last night.
We pack up and get ready to go home but first we took Ben to Olive Garden for lunch.  I told him if I could send him the scripture reading assignments for each day and if he would read them, we would take him to lunch once a month and discuss the Book of Mormon. Ben is a great kid and we had a wonderful visit with him.  After he graduates he plans on serving a mission and when he returns he wants to either go to ASU or BYU and study architecture.  He showed us some of the scale models he has been working on in his architecture class. After taking Ben home we start our fast.  We are fasting for Michael.  Of course we go the Globe way and stop for burros so when we complete our fast tomorrow we will have something delicious to eat.  It was hard riding with those burros in the car and not taking a bite.
James gets tired when he is driving so I read to him for awhile from "Seven Tipping Points." After I finished reading I slept most of the rest of the way home.  We arrived at home around 4 p.m.

Speaking of Burger House:

I am getting hungry.

After unloading, unpacking, and putting everything away, James works on his Sunday School lesson.  I make some cutout letters that spell: The Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ, for an activity for my lesson tomorrow.  We were in bed by 9:30.

Here's what was happening in Mesa:

Snowflake temple
Picturing ourselves at the temple.
Left late for the temple but got there in plenty of time for the 8:30 session.  Temple workers that we saw: Tricia and Steven Reidhead who were both workers in our session.  Stewart Smith took me through the veil.  Steven, Stewart and James are all former student body presidents at Snowflake Union High School.

3 Nephi 10:1-19

GC: 'The Sacrament Can Help Us Become Holy' by Elder Peter F. Meurs
" Consider five ways to increase the impact and power of our regular participation in the sacred ordinance of
the sacrament.  1) Prepare in advance.  2) Arrive early  3) Sing and
learn from the words of the sacrament hymn.
4) Spiritually participate in the sacrament prayers.
5) Ponder and Remember Him as the sacrament
emblems are passed."

Darrel's family 2014

After the temple we went to El Cupidos for lunch.  I had a beef tamale with red sauce and a beef taco.  James had a chicken toastado and a fish taco.  Our next stop, the Taylor Walmart.  The first thing I did when I walked into the store was buy a pumpkin for $3.88.
Perfect!

The other reason we came to Walmart was to buy supplies for our Vernon food drive.  Here is what we got.
All we need is the turkey and some rolls,
and a pumpkin pie.

We went home and took a nap.  I got up to do some things and felt dizzy and nauseous.  James gave me some soda water and I felt a little better.  We watched two Aurora Teagarden episodes: The Julius House, and Three Bedrooms, Two Corpses.  Afterwards I had some yogurt and a bowl of cereal because I felt better and was hungry.

Not sure where this is.  I was going to say
Buckelew Springs but I knew I wouldn't get
away with it.
