Fall break and Darrel and his family
are at Disneyland!  It's Lola's first time.

Stacy, Paul, Michael, and Joshua are
at the Grand Canyon.
Michael is awesome!

Happy Birthday to my sister-in-law
Vickie!
She is 64 today.
James cleaned the truck for me today so I could take Kilee Hunsaker to lunch.
He cleaned it both inside and outside.  It hasn't been this clean since  it was brand new!
It looked like it was going to rain any minute so I took a rain jacket with me when I picked up Kilee.  We drove in to Pinetop to eat lunch at El Rancho.  As we were driving through Pinetop it looked like it had snowed, but it was actually hail.
Sunrise got quite a bit of snow in this storm.
After lunch I dropped Kilee off at the downtown chapel where she went shopping with her friend Hannah Borrego.
When I got home I worked on my blog and paid bills.  It rained the rest of the day and in to the night.
James worked on income taxes all day long.  He has until the 15th to finish.

This evening we made sandwiches for dinner and watched a Hallmark movie called, "A Gift of Miracles."  It was a good one.

Sheri's Daily Quote:
2 Nephi 32:3
"Angels speak by the power of the Holy Ghost;
wherefore they speak the words of Christ.
Wherefore, I said unto you, feast upon the words of Christ;
for behold, the words of Christ will tell you all things what ye should do."
Elk fever is still alive and well at our house.

I got up to make chocolate chip muffins only to discover that we had no eggs.  I was going to go to Stanford to get some when Sheri asked if I wanted her to drive me.  I said yes and we jumped into her van only for her to discover that she didn't have her wallet.  She went back inside to look for it, but no luck.  She remembered having it at Safeway on Saturday so she called the store.  Sure enough, they had found it, so instead of going to Stanford we drove in to Show Low and went to Safeway. Also stopped at Sonic.
Usually when I go some place with Sheri she plays music.  This time she said she would rather listen to a conference talk.  I was fine with that!  We listened to a conference talk by Brother Davies of the presiding bishopric.  It was from a conference a few years ago and was one I hadn't heard about building our lives on a firm foundation.  He told of the 1989 San Francisco earthquake and houses that weren't built on firm foundations and how they crumbled.  It was great!
When we drove up at home this is the first thing we saw:
Ian being silly and having a little fun!
We grilled burgers for lunch and Sheri did a puzzle.  Ben and Alex helped.

After the puzzle was finished Sheri, James, Alex and I played Hearts.  Sheri quit early, so I guessed she lost.

I made some smores dip because we had so many marshmallows left.  Instead of Hershey bars we used chocolate chips.
We used graham crackers as our dipping utensil.
Max said he didn't like it because the chocolate was melted.
Alex took the boys on a Razr ride up to the pit.  Also, we had a little company today.  Rick Lauritzen and Cope Reynolds came by to cut wood.  Rick brought his dog, a Mastif named Conan the Barkbarian.  Max and Evan loved him.

Time to say goodbye.  We will see you on
Wednesday. So glad you came to visit!

We went to the dump and while we were there the attendant told us he had heard reports of a tornado in Lakeside.  Later someone posted this picture on Facebook.
It never touched down.
I took this picture at the dump.
The older Trezise boys were anxious to get home because they had ordered Magic cards and they were coming in the mail.  Max kept tracking the packages on Sheri's phone.  When Evan got home he got his Halloween costume.
It's Baymax from Big Hero 6.
It's really Evan!
James and I read from "Sophia" and watched a Hallmark movie, "Perfect."

The Trezise's watched General Conference in the family room and James and I watched it in the bedroom.
Sunday a.m. session
20. "Be an Example and a Light" - Thomas S. Monson
Towards the end of President Monson's talk he started to falter and was leaning against the pulpit.  Pres. Uchtdorf was on the edge of his seat with his arms outstretched ready to catch Pres. Monson if he began to fall.  After the talks was over he and another brother escorted Pres. Monson back to his seat.
Two Primary aged children drew pictures of what they saw while
President Monson was speaking.  They said they saw angels beside him helping him.

Angels on his shoulders
21. "I Stand All Amazed" - Ronald A. Rasband
22. "Plain and Precious Truths" - Gary E. Stevenson

25. "Let the Clarion Trumpet Sound" - Gregory A. Schwitzer
26. "That They Do Always Remember Him" - Claudio R.M. Costa
27. "The Holy Ghost as Your Companion" - Henry B. Eyring

As we were listening to the closing song of this session I told James that I was hungry for hashbrowns.  When the session was over we went out into the kitchen and lo and behold, Sheri was cooking hashbrowns!  She also made bacon, eggs, and biscuits.  It was a nice lunch between conference sessions!
Sunday p.m. session
28. "Why the Church" - D. Todd Christofferson
29. "My Heart Pondereth Them Continually" - Devin G. Durrant
30. "Blessed and Happy Are Those Who Keep the Commandments of God - Von G. Keetch

33. "Eyes to See and Ears to Hear" - Kim B. Clark
34. "Hold on Thy Way" - Koichi Aoyagi
35. "Chosen to Bear Testimony of My Name" - David A. Bednar

James and I drove to Springerville in the truck to check out the pinion crop.  It started raining when James got out of the car.
Looking for pinions in the rain.
The crop here was a little disappointing.
Back home I made taco soup for dinner.  Sheri, Ian and the boys had steak. mashed potatoes, and broccoli.
We finished our Five Crowns game and Max ended up winning after Sheri was ahead the entire time.
James and Alex played chess and Alex won!
 Two deep thinkers
For dessert we made smores.  James had made a fire in the fireplace and the coals made the most perfectly toasted marshmallows!

The 185th Semi-Annual Conference of
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
James and I look forward to General Conference every six months where we can sit in the comfort of our own home and be spiritually fed by our Church leaders.
In his favorite place, sitting in his favorite chair, in his
favorite outfit (he just got back from bugling for elk),
listening and watching General Conference.
James is drinking Pero and just finished eating an almond poppy seed muffin.  That's my Dr. Pepper10 and I will be sitting right beside him during conference.  We love taking notes and then reading the addresses when they come out in the Ensign.  I listen to or read each conference talk from the last conference once a month for the next six months.  I love General Conference and I am so grateful for living prophets!

Between sessions we had lunch and a nap.  We are looking forward to the afternoon session where the three new apostles will be sustained.

14. "Strengthened by the Atonement of Jesus Christ" - Dallin Oaks

We had planned on going in to town to get some groceries before the Priesthood session and before Sheri and Ian arrived.  We got about 10 miles down the road and the truck started heating up so we turned around and came home.  We called Sheri and they were just arriving in Show Low so we asked them to please bring us some anti-freeze.

The Trezise's arrive just in time to watch the Priesthood session of conference with James.  Sheri and I hang out in the bedroom and watch "A Novel Romance", our Hallmark movies of choice.  Evan goes back and forth between conference and our Hallmark movie.

Happy 88th Birthday Lois!
On her birthday with Teresa, her
oldest granddaughter and Teresa's son Jack.

Sheri's Daily Quote:
Boyd K. Packer said:
"Each of us must stay in condition to respond to inspiration and the promptings of the Holy Ghost.  The Lord has a way of pouring
pure intelligence into our minds to prompt us, to guide us,
to teach us, and to warn us.  Each son or daughter of God can know
the things they need to know instantly.  Learn to receive and
act on inspiration and revelation."

James comes home from Chandler in the truck, pulling a trailer.  He left my Lexus at the house in Chandler.  He brought green chili burros for lunch.  He was complaining about the wind and I said:
"I would rather have the wind than the heat."  He agreed.

We went on a Razr ride and tried to call up some elk but no luck this time.
 A man and his bugle.
Back at home James called his mom and talked to her for over an hour.  It seems she had a great birthday with lots of her family visiting and calling her.
Dawn is in New Orleans right now on a retreat.

Stacy and Paul took Joshua to Paradise Valley to see over 5,000 Mexican free tail bats at the bat cave canal.  They come out at sunset.  Joshua is a little bat expert.  Bats are his favorite animal.
Waiting for the bats.

James is experimenting with some beans from our years supply that are about 30 years old.  He is going to soak them overnight and then cook them in the crockpot to see if they are edible.  I am a little bit leary.  Not sure I want to eat 30 year old beans and I'm not sure that he can make them good enough to eat.

I saved the Mystery Woman, "In the Shadows" episode which I watched by myself, so I could watch it again tonight with James.  It was that good!

Sheri's daily quote:
Helaman 5:12
"And now, my sons, remember, remember that it is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation; that when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds, yea, his shafts in the whirlwind, yea, when all his hail and his mighty storm shall beat upon you, it shall have no power over you to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless wo, because of the rock upon which ye are built, which is a sure foundation...whereon if men build they cannot fall."
Love this autumn picture.

I had asked Kilee to come over to watch "Cinderella" this afternoon but because I wasn't finished with the pantry I postponed until Tuesday and told her I would take her to lunch.
Ella and Kit
This morning I called the Social Security office at James's request to ask for my 1099's for 2012, 2013, and 2014.  I will be so glad when this whole  tax thing is completed.

Today is October 1st and it was 106 in Phoenix today.  We hit a high of 81 here in Vernon.

I finished the pantry!
I am please with the results!
Now that I have the pantry done I look around and see all the other things that need to be done, like washing the windows, vacuuming, dusting, organizing files, etc.

James says he's coming home tomorrow morning and bringing Joe and Alex with him.  He was going to have Joe drive my car while he brought the truck and the trailer.
Joe cancelled and because Joe wasn't coming, Alex didn't want to come either.  Alex is coming up with his family on Saturday.

I watched "Mystery Woman, O Baby" this evening.

Happy 60th Birthday Dawn!
Dawn is the baby in this picture.  Sad to
say I don't have any recent pictures of her.

James left for the valley this morning a little after 6am.  He picked up Mike Malone, a member of the Vernon ward, and gave him a ride to Mesa.
Sheri texted me this morning and said there was lots of water at our house in front of the fence.
She thought maybe the people who are building in the orchard were using our water.
James checked this out, and the neighbors were not using our water. The water problem was due to a broken sprinkler which James fixed.

I was sitting out on the porch reading the Ensign when I looked up and two antelope were walking across the property.  I watched them until they disappeared in the trees.

James says it was close to 110 degrees in the valley today.  It was in the low 80's here.

James and I both finished reading the Book of Mormon for the 3rd time this year.  We will start again tomorrow and will finish by the end of December.  Here is the schedule we use.

I also finished the April 2015 General Conference talks for the 6th time.
I watched two Mystery Woman movies tonight.  One was called "At First Sight", and the second was "The Wild West Mystery."

At 12:15 I got up to use the bathroom and heard a noise outside.  There was a bull elk near the porch railing and five more a little further out.  I wish James was here to see  them.
This picture was actually taken a couple of years ago.
