General Conference
Answers to Prayer
Brook P. Hales
"When our worthy desires are not granted in the way we had hoped, it may actually be for our ultimate benefit. For example, Joseph the son of Jacob was envied and hated by his brothers to the point that they plotted Joseph's murder. Instead, they sold him as a slave into Egypt. If ever a person might have felt that his prayers were not answered in the way he had hoped, it could have been Joseph. In reality, his apparent misfortune resulted in great blessings to him and saved his family from starvation."

Well James survived working at Howard's yesterday so he's back again today. Anthony isn't there to help because his vehicle has no brakes. Weston was supposed to help him but never showed up, so he's working alone, struggling with crooked posts and rails.

I finished getting my shipment ready this morning and worked on my blog and walked. These movies were playing in the background:
"A Rocky Mountain Christmas"
(filmed in Vancouver, Canada)
"All I Want for Christmas"
(One of my favorites, I love the kid in this movie!)
"A Joyous Christmas"
"Mistletoe Over Manhattan"
"Christmas Everlasting"

I didn't watch all of these in the morning, some spilled over into the afternoon.

James came home from the Howard's around 1 o'clock and told them he wouldn't be back until 4 because he was going to town with me.

Our first stop in town was at Taco Bell for lunch. It was so busy there were only two empty tables. The place was a mess. This town gets so overcrowded on holidays and most people don't know how to handle it. A girl came out and cleaned tables, sweeping more food onto the already dirty floor. Maybe I should get a job here.

James dropped me off at Walmart while he went to the UPS store and to Home Depot. Walmart was a disaster. They had to close for awhile on Sunday because of a power outage and it must not be fixed because most all of the frozen food and dairy cases were empty and the store was packed with people. I always wonder why people go grocery shopping with the entire family to tow.

I couldn't even get a quart of milk to go with my frosted mini wheats. I had to ask for help to get James's rice milk because there was only two and they were pushed back so far on the counter that I couldn't reach them. I wanted out of that place and so when James arrived I told him it was time to go!

On the way home he stopped at McDonald's to get me an ice cream cone. He really does love me!

We dropped off the book, Plato, we are returning to the seller because of a broken spine at the post office. We also picked up another load of books. This time only two boxes full instead of three.
Even Amazon thinks we deserve a refund.

James went back to the Howard's and I put the groceries away, including the two watermelons I picked out, and opened books.

This evening we finished watching "Mystery 101: Playing Dead."
We both decided that Jill Wagner is one of our favorite actresses on Hallmark. She is pretty down to earth too. She lives on a farm in Tennessee and posted this picture on Instagram.

She said this little guy will live with his mom on the
farm all of his life.

 On to the next thing!

Yes, but how does her dad feel about country music?

I don't know how to post videos.

It's supposed to be a "controlled" burn but there has
been so much smoke and it's close by.

 They change so much!

Jesus Christ, Exemplar
DC 35:2
I am Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who was crucified for the sins of the world, even as many as will believe on my name, that they may become the sons of God, even one in me as I am one in the Father, as the Father is one in me, that we may be one.

How Can I Understand?
Elder Ulisses Soares
"Brothers and sisters, the warning of our beloved prophet is a further reminder of our individual responsibility to seek to learn and to teach our families that there is a Father in Heaven who loves us and who has developed a divine plan of happiness for His children; that Jesus Christ, His Son, is the redeemer of the world; and that salvation comes from faith in His name. Our lives need to be rooted upon the rock of our Redeemer, Jesus Christ, which might help us individually and as families to have our own spiritual impressions engraved in our hearts, helping us to endure in our faith."

James went to work at the Howard's today. I was still in bed. We had scriptures in the evening along with reading Ben's letter.

I watched Christmas movies, paid bills, blogged, and walked.
I made James a grilled cheese sandwich and tomato soup for lunch. I ate chicken nuggets.

I got a call from my friend Jean. She was worried about me because Tom told her I wasn't feeling well. I told her we would get together once I felt better. Jean is always in pain and is dealing with a swollen knee.

James mailed the book we sold and picked up another 30 books. I didn't even open them. I will deal with them later.

It was a beautiful sunny day, so refreshing after the rain we had yesterday. It rained most of the day and everything smells so fresh and clean!

Happy 16th Birthday Max!

Christ: The Light that Shines in Darkness
Sharon Eubank
"Christ tenderly told the Nephites, 'I have commanded that none of you should go away.' Peter had that powerful epiphany in Acts 10 when he declared, 'God hath shewed me that I should not call any person common or unclean.' It is an unwavering requirement of Christian disciples and Latter-day Saints to show true love to one another. Jesus extends the same kind of invitation to us that He did to Zacchaeus: 'Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if you hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to you, and will sup with you, and you with me.' Christ sees us in our tree."

I got my books into the car so I knew that I could get them out. One of the boxes weighs 31 lbs. and the other weighs 33 lbs.

I drove to the post office and got my mail which included four books. I went on to Nita's house. When I got there I knocked on the door and rang the bell beside the door but no answer. I called. Again, no answer. I could hear the TV and saw her car was in the garage so I knew she must be home but for some reason she wasn't answering the door. I texted Pam and asked her to call Nita and after sitting on the porch for awhile I went back to sit in my car. After being there a minute or two I looked up and saw that the door was open.

When Nita got in the car she was apologetic for making me wait. I told her it was no problem I was just glad that she was all right.
We had to go through some road construction to get to the hospital but when we got to the hospital we found a parking spot in front immediately. Pam had told us it was packed today and we would need to get valet parking. Pam met us inside the door and we went and picked up Jenny and then we all walked down to the cafeteria. Pam gave both Nita and I a meal ticket for one item and a drink. Nita got a chicken sandwich and I got the salad bar.

As the four of us sat visiting we talked about Pam's dad and her son, Jenny's daughter who has a brain tumor and Jenny's son Robbie who is playing football for Monte.
Soon the conversation turned to Nita and her recent divorce. She was teary-eyed. She did not want a divorce and she is grieving.

After we said our goodbye's and going to the UPS store we made our way back to Vernon. Nita told me what happened to her from the time she left Vernon last year until coming back a few days ago.
She lives in Yuma during the winter. Let me go back to last summer when she and Calvin were here. Calvin began taking the missionary discussions and was baptized here last summer. Brother Howard was one of the ward missionaries who helped teach him.

Nita had cancer and had just come home from the hospital when about a month ago Calvin came to her and said that he didn't want to be a Mormon anymore and that he wanted a divorce. Nita and Calvin are both 85 years old and have been married before. Nita's first husband wouldn't allow her to join the Church. Their daughter joined and when her husband passed away, Nita joined.

When Calvin was baptized last year Nita was hopeful that she had found her eternal companion. Everything was fine as long as they were up here surrounded by members of the Vernon ward. When Calvin returned to Yuma and with Nita in the hospital with cancer, he began spending time with his old drinking buddies. They made fun of him being a "Mormon" and urged him to smoke and drink with them. I guess the peer pressure was too great for this 85 year old man and he went back to his old ways.

Nita is heart-broken and is grieving. I tried to comfort her on our trip back to Vernon. At one point she asked where I lived and I asked her if she wanted to come and see. She said yes, if I had the time.

Nita loved our house and kept going on and on about it. On our way back to her house we passed and stopped to talk to James who was on his way home from the valley.

At Nita's we exchange addresses and I give her a hug goodbye. She is going back to Yuma for doctor's appointments and won't be back until the end of July. I told her when she got back I would take her to the top of the ski lift at Sunrise. She seemed excited.
Nita's daughter, Dana, says Nita has alzheimer's but I did not see any indication of it today.

We saw lots of smoke from the Woodbury fire again this evening.
James and I watched the movie, "Wedding March 5, My Boyfriend's Back," starring Jack Wagner and Josie Bissett and Cindy Busby.
