Vancouver, British Columbia
131st operating temple
Dedicated: 2 May 2010
By: Thomas S. Monson

Jesus Christ, birth of
John 1:14
And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
Book of Mormon
Mosiah 29:16-32
*Why did Mosiah not select another king over the land?
- Mosiah knew that one wicked king could negatively influence an entire society. Wicked leaders destroy laws of a nation that are based on God's laws. They replace righteous laws with laws that support evil and wickedness. Sadly we can see this happening to the laws and legal systems of many nations today. Vs. 20 - "...he did deliver them because they did humble themselves before him; and because they cried mightily unto him he did deliver them out of bondage; and thus doth the Lord work his power in all cases among the children of men, extending the arm of mercy towards them that put their trust in Him." Humility, prayer and trusting God can create miracles in our life.
Old Testament
2 Samuel 1-2
1 David learns of the death of Saul and Jonathan - He slays the Amalekite who claims to have killed Saul - David laments the passing of Saul and Jonathan with a song.
2 David is anointed king over the house of Judah - Ishbosheth becomes the king of Israel - David's followers defeat Abner and the men of Israel.
General Conference
The Elders Quorum
Elder D. Todd Christofferson
"The elders quorum includes all elders and prospective elders in the ward as well as high priests who are not currently serving in the bishopric, in the stake presidency, on the high council, or as functioning patriarchs. The high priests quorum in the stake will be composed of those high priests who are serving in the stake presidency, in bishoprics, on the high council, and as functioning patriarchs."

Russell M. Nelson, 10/05, #46. Jesus Christ - The Master Healer
"Faith, repentance, baptism, a testimony, and enduring conversion lead to the healing power of the Lord."

F.H.E.
Behold! A Royal Army
Elder Ronald A. Rasband
"Everywhere my wife and I have gone, we have witnessed the hand of the Lord going before His servants, preparing the people and the way ahead so that all His children might be blessed according to their every need. Hasn't He promised that He 'will go before our face' and 'be on our right hand and on our left and that His 'Spirit shall be in our hearts, and His angels round about us'"?

Dale G. Renlund, The Melchizedek Priesthood, Chapter 11 Principle #3, A Calling in the Priesthood is a Calling to Serve.

Truman G. Madsen, Lecture #3, Joseph's Personality and Character. In this lecture Brother Madsen asks us to reach out the olive branch to Emma Smith. That is not difficult for me. I love and admire Emma Smith. I wish all of my children and grandchildren could listen to these lectures. If they could, their testimony of the Prophet Joseph Smith would be strengthened.

Rescuing Wayward Children
If the scriptures teach us anything, they teach us that Israel's God will not let Israel go, despite her bouts of waywardness. The Lord is always reaching out to her. Robert L. Millet surmises rightly that "What is true of a nation is equally true of individuals. Few of us in this life will, through our sins, place ourselves beyond the pale of saving grace."

Meridian Magazine, The Lord's Formula for Receiving and Recognizing Revelation: by Mark A. Mathews
"What the Lord wants us to know is that revelation requires work. Rather than merely asking without effort, we must pay the price of our own diligent efforts to know the things we seek."
Here is the three step formula"
Study it out in your mind, then ask the Lord if it is right.
(DC 9:8)
1. Study it out.
2. Make a decision.
3. Ask if it is right.

Sheri Dew, Worth the Wrestle, p. 12:
"A pattern of not seeking help from heaven blocks revelation and leaves a person coping alone with downward spiraling thoughts or seeking out like-minded thinkers or even doubters in the blogosphere, in the theater, between the covers of books - you name it. They can be found almost anywhere.
The Lord wants us to ask every probing question we can muster because not asking questions can be far more dangerous than asking them. Alma taught that those who harden their hearts receive less and less until they 'know nothing...; and then they are taken captive by the devil, and led...down to destruction. Now this is what is meant by the chains of hell" (Alma 12:11). In other words, refusing to seek after truth makes you stupid. On the other hand, inspired questions asked in faith lead to truth and 'light and truth forsake that evil one' (DC 93:37)."

James went to pick up his tractor this morning. When he got back he decided to get himself some salad. The only problem was I had made the salad to take to a RS lunch at the Miller's. I had to stop him and ration his serving.

I said goodbye as I left for the luncheon and told James to call me when he arrived in the valley.

The sisters luncheon was a lot of fun. I sat in the dead animal room with several other sisters. The Miller's used to live in Alaska and Ed is quite the hunter, trapper, and taxidermist. There was a stuffed bear, a bobcat, and lots of heads, some I knew, some I didn't. I told Debbie I needed James to come and see all of Ed's mounts.

I managed to stay on my weight-loss plan and passed up desert although it is one of my favorites. Chocolate or lemon filling with a pecan crust and Coolwhip on top.

Here is a list of the sisters who attended: Sister Singleton with Mary and her baby, Christopher, Sister Thompson, Sister Howard, Sister Halcomb, both, with a relative visiting from out of town, Penny. Sister Wood, Sister Smith, Sister Westbrook, Stefani, Jordyn, Sister Klug, Sister Gordon, Ellen K., and Tamara and myself.

I told my friend Jean I would take her home. She failed to tell her husband and when he saw us on the road he was not happy. Oops, I was just trying to help.

I finished off what was left of the Olive Garden copycat salad I made when I got home.

I spent about three hours this afternoon stripping polish off the family/living room floor. It is a messy, back breaking job. When I finished I sat down and watched the latest episode of "The Good Witch."

James finally called to tell me he made it safely.

Jackson got his mission call and opened it today. He is going to the Philippines and leaves September 21st.

Such an amazing young man. He will be a
great missionary!

I can't believe that James is still in the lead!

Trina and a fellow worker. I think they are happy
that it's time to go home from work.

Paul posted this. James and I both
remember Coach Carlson.

Who knew?
I used to like tigers but now I'm not so sure.

I love this.

Monterrey, Mexico
110th operating temple
Dedicated: 28 April 2002 by
Gordon B. Hinckley

Mosiah 29:16-32
* According to King Mosiah, what benefits would come through making decisions by the voice of the people?
* What consequences would come if the people chose iniquity?
* Why is it important for both leaders and followers to be accountable for their actions?
Truths learned in Mosiah 29:
* Unrighteous leadership can bring contention and sin.
* It is not common for the voice of the people to choose something that is not right.
* If the people choose iniquity, the judgments of God will come upon them.
* Each person has a duty to uphold righteous laws and leaders.
Mormon 9
Moroni calls upon those who do not believe in Christ to repent; He proclaims a God of miracles, who gives revelations and pours out gifts and signs upon the faithful; Miracles cease because of unbelief; Signs follow those who believe; Men are exhorted to be wise and keep the commandments. About A.D. 401-21.
DC 75:13-22
All will come forth in the resurrection of the just or the unjust; The inhabitants of many worlds are begotten sons and daughters unto God through the Atonement of Jesus Christ;
Was there a time I exercised faith and was given the strength to overcome?
* I can't think of a time right now.

Return and Receive
Elder M. Russell Ballard
"Over the years, I have observed that those who accomplish the most in this world are those with a vision for their lives, with goals to keep them focused on their vision and tactical plans for how to achieve them.  Knowing where you are going and how you expect to get there can bring meaning, purpose, and accomplishment to life."
Kindness, Charity, and Love
President Thomas S. Monson
"And if a man be meek and lowly in heart, and confesses by the power of the Holy Ghost that Jesus is the Christ, he must needs have charity; for if he have not charity he is nothing; wherefore he must needs have charity." -Moroni 7:44

I was up at 4:00 a.m. on this beautiful mother's day to work on my Primary lesson.  The lesson is about Edward Partridge being the first bishop and what our bishop does for us.

James wrote me a nice one page letter for mother's day.  He would rather write to me than to buy a card.
So sweet.

The mother's had an amazing day at church.  We got giant candy bars and a carnation in sacrament meeting.  During Relief Society the RS presidency set up a luncheon in the Relief Society room.  We had chicken salad sandwiches on rolls, veggies and dip, chips, and chocolate covered strawberries.  It was yummy and totally unexpected.  During Primary each of the children wrote a note to their mom's and gave them either a red or yellow rose.  The roses were beautiful.

Candy bar, carnation, and cards.

Cathi and Terry's grandson, Colin, filled this out at kindergarten.  I thought it was pretty funny.

I love her red hair and his answer to the last question.

James came home from church and made me a wonderful steak dinner.  We had fillets, baked potatoes, corn, and a salad.  I also bought a little chocolate cake but I ended up throwing it away because it had too much buttercream frosting.
I got a call or a text from all of my kids.  Stacy wrote me a sweet message on Facebook.  Brian sent me a card.  Jared sent me a Deseretbookshelf plus card good for one year.  Darrel called me and Trina wished me a Happy Mother's Day.  Darrel had to work today and Trina spent the day making her mother dinner.  She also took this picture of three of her four kids.
While Trina was taking this picture Lola was inside and locked
them all out of the house.  Thank goodness Rowan knew how
to break in.  So, no picture of Lola.

When Stacy called me she told me a little more about their trip to Tombstone.  She said over 1200 bodies are in the bottom of the mine they were in.  She said the guide told them to take lots of pictures because they may get an orb.  Stacy got one and you can see a face in it if you look hard.  She said Paul got one that moved around.
The orb is way over on the left.  I can't see anything on here but I
did when Stacy posted it on Facebook.

Paul posted these pictures of Stacy and some of her boys:
Dallin

Michael

Joshua

We had some visitors this evening.  James got some closeups.

Cows

James said there were five cows and
two yearlings.

Their light butts are so funny looking

They came to wish me a happy mother's day!

It was a wonderful day.  I am so grateful to my wonderful family.
I was impressed that Jared worked all day Saturday and then drove to San Antonio, arriving at 1:30 a.m. so he could fix Kacey breakfast and spend mother's day with her, and then drive back home Sunday afternoon after making her cookies.

Here are some more fun reminders of Mother's Day:

Happy Mother's Day!
