General Conference
Feasting Upon the Words of Christ
Takashi Wada
"The words of Christ can help us 'increase our spiritual capacity to receive revelation' and safely guide us through our life. Mormon teaches that the words of Christ have 'a great tendency to lead the people to do that which is just' and that they are more powerful than anything 'the sword' can accomplish. As I have searched for God's wisdom in dealing with my own challenges, always as I have tried the 'virtue of the word of God', I have felt inspired and enabled to make wise decisions, overcome temptations, and bless my life with increased faith in Christ and love for those around me. Our prophet, Russell M. Nelson, has taught us that 'in coming days, it will not be possible to survive spiritually without the guiding, directing, comforting, and constant influence of the Holy Ghost'. Needed revelation will come as we try the 'virtue of the word,' and that word will be more powerful than anything else we could try or imagine."

I worked on catching up on "Come Follow Me" this morning.
James left around 8 o'clock to look at a remodel job at Dawn's school.
Ruby went to swimming lessons and Lola went to tumbling.
Trina was supposed to work but they put her "on call."
When Lola returned we packed up Lexy and after Rowan offered a prayer of safety and peace we left for Vernon. Rowan sat in the front seat and Lola and Ruby were in the back. James is staying here for a 1:30 appointment with his ear, nose, and throat doctor, Dr. Weiner.

I headed out on the 202 towards Gilbert Rd. Instead of going all the way to the 101 I decided I was going to get off on Gilbert Rd. That's the way James came in on Saturday. Something happened when I got off and instead of heading north on Gilbert Rd., I headed south. I was so frustrated that when I came to the Peter Piper Pizza on Baseline Rd. I decided to stop for lunch. The first thing Lola said was: "Gramma, I don't won't to play, I want to go to the cabin."
I bought four buffet lunches and we probably ate enough for one. The things that was really costly was the drinks. Oh well. Darrel did give me cash for the week to feed the kids. I promise I didn't use all of it today, only about a third.

I forgot to tell a cute story about Lola that happened yesterday at our family dinner. She said to Joshua: "Everybody in your family is brown except for your mom....and your dog Shipley."

As I left Peter Piper I headed north on Gilbert road and took the 60 to Country Club which turns into the 87, the road to Payson.

When we got to Payson we stopped at McDonald's to use the bathrooms and to eat ice cream. Lola was asleep when we got there but when we said the word ice cream she woke right up.

In Show Low we stopped at Safeway so Lola could use the bathroom and so we could do some shopping. The kids decided they wanted spaghetti for dinner. Ruby likes broccoli so I got some broccoli and french bread to go with our spaghetti. All the kids got to pick out a fruit. Rowan picked nectarines, Ruby plums, and Lola strawberries. We also got some cherries for grandpa.

Our next stop was the Conoco station on the hill as we were leaving Show Low. Last stop was the post office. No books, but a pink slip saying I had items too big for my box.

As we were driving towards Vernon I noticed ominous black clouds coming from Springerville, and New Mexico.

Rowan carried everything in from the car and I put it away. The kids took their stuff up stairs. They are all going to sleep in their family room.

I went up and helped them clean the dead bugs out of the bathtub and the toilet and then I vacuumed and dusted.

James got here around 6. He told the kids that there were two antelope outside. It's LaVerne and Shirley! The kids and James stood in our bedroom looking through binoculars to see if the antelope were pregnant. They determined that they were.

As we sat down to dinner it began to rain. It rained hard and then the rain turned to hail and it looked like there was snow on the ground. The temperature dropped from 80 to 60. The drop in temperature is one of the things I love about rain!

After dinner I walked and played with Lola. We played bowling and chess. Ruby and Rowan were upstairs playing Minecraft. Lola found the tea party box with hats, and boas. I told her if she put it back we would get it out tomorrow and have a tea party.

We all had family prayer together before going to bed.

Eating spaghetti while it rains and hails
Lola said: "I like this bread"!

 Sweet Scarlett

 These two are friends forever!

Five years ago had the time share.
I love the look on Max's and Joshua's faces
as they consider the fact that Evan knew
more Articles of Faith than they did.

Last year Trina wanted to go here. I think
she thought it would be a real forest.

"Firm and Steadfast in the Faith of Christ"
Elder D. Todd Christofferson
"Always remember the promise of good things to come, both now and hereafter, for those who are firm and steadfast in the faith of Christ. Remember, eternal life, and the joy of the saints. 'O all ye that are pure in heart, lift up your heads and receive the pleasing word of God, and feast upon his love; for ye may, if your minds are firm, forever.' In the name of Jesus Christ, amen"

We sold "To Kill a Mockingbird," and "Joseph Smith, A Rough Stone Rolling."

Darrel works from 9-9 today and Trina from 10-10. We stayed home with Lola and took her to preschool at noon. We picked up Ruby at 12:30 at the bus stop because today is a half day. We were going to go to IHOP but we realized we did not have enough time because we had to pick up Rowan at the bus stop at 1:30. We went to Peter Piper and ordered some pizza to take home instead. We picked up Rowan at 1:30 then took Ruby and Rowan home.

We picked up Lola from preschool at 2:30. She has some pizza and joins Ruby and Rowan in watching Studio C. James left to have a meeting with Armando but was back before I had to pick up Addy.

James went upstairs and took a nap and I picked up Addy around 4:30. What a schedule and to think that Trina does this everyday, unless she's at work. On our way home Addy and I see grandpa holding hands with Ruby and Lola walking home from the park.

Lola

After we got the kids settled at home James and I left to visit Donna in Scottsdale at the hospital.

Donna is on the same floor of the hospital where James was, the fifth floor. He was in room 6 and she is in room 18. She was in the room alone, sitting up in bed, just finishing her dinner. She looks well and she says she feels well which is such good news. She has suffered so much for so long.

We had a nice visit with Donna but did not want to stay too long. We said goodbye and headed for Menchie's, the place I went yesterday to get the lemon and mango frozen yogurt.

We went to the Menchie's off the Power and the 202. I got pineapple, pistachio, and the original flavor. James got the mango and lemon. He liked it but not as well as I did.

Back at home we went walking. Lola went with us and laughed at her shadow most of the time.

Truth and the Plan
President Dallin H. Oaks
"Our loving Heavenly father wants His Children to have the joy that is the purpose of our creation. That joyful dstiny is eternal life, which we can obtain by pressing forward along what our prophet, President Russell M. Nelson, often calls 'the covenant path.' Here is what he said in his first message as President of the Church: 'Keep on the covenant path. Your commitment to follow the Savior by making covenants with Him and then keeping those covenants will open the door to every spiritual blessing and privilege available to men, women, and children everywhere.'"

Jesus performed more miracles in Capernaum, the Savior's own city, than anywhere else. Jesus used the title "Son of Man" 80 times in reference to himself.

We left a little after 9 for the valley this morning. We stopped at Walmart in Show Low to pick up the shakes James left in our cart on Monday. I go for a little walk and get a drink at McDonald's while James is getting the shakes

On our way we stop at the McDonald's in Globe so I can use the little girl's room. This is what we saw in the parking lot.

So many motorcycles on the road. I said to James that a lot of
people in Globe love to ride and he said I will bet most of them are from out of state. Sure enough, I started checking, Ontario, Canada, New York, Minnesota. I guess that's one of the reasons people like to come here in the winter.

We met Sheri and Kimmy for lunch at the Cafe Rio in Chandler. Stacy couldn't come because she had a doctor's appointment. James ate lunch and then left for his doctor's appointment at the Southwest Sonoran Spine center in Tempe.

After lunch I saw a set of missionaries go in to Mechie's frozen yogurt next door. Sheri said they were the missionaries from their ward and she had just fed them the other night. She went in and paid for their yogurt. While she was doing that I tried the mango and lemon yogurt mix. It was delicious!

Kim and I dropped Sheri off at work and then went to park on Washington St. by the high school to wait for Max to get out of school. There was a house for sale and I thought it would be perfect for James and I when we come down to stay. Too bad we don't have any money.

This is the next door neighbors yard.

On the way to take Max home Kim tells a funny story about when she and Brian were in Nebraska for his grandma's funeral. They were out in the middle of nowhere when the neighbor lady came out and rang a bell. Kim said hundreds of cats came running and she doesn't know where they came from. She looked at Brian and said, "What just happened"?  Anyway, it was funny when she told it. I guess you had to have been there.

While I a waiting for James to pick me up from Kim's I scanned a few of her books. She has some nice art books but she doesn't want to sell them.

After James arrives and picks me up we drive to Scottsdale to Shea Honor hospital to see if our friend Donna from Vernon is out of surgery. She is not but we visit with her husband Owen and our neighbor and Owen's good friend Chuck. We stayed over an hour waiting for her but then we had to get back to Darrel and Trina's to keep an eye on Ruby and Lola. Addy, Rowan and Trina are all going to Mutual and of course Darrel is at work. Trina was just called as the Young Women's president. When they moved from their old ward she was the Primary president. You just can't get away from the fact that you are pretty awesome Trina.

We took Ruby and Lola to Peter Piper Pizza. They had already eaten dinner and weren't hungry for pizza so we ordered a cinnamon dessert pizza and played some games.

I guess Max is pretty upset that we aren't leaving for the cabin tomorrow night.  We promised Owen we would come back tomorrow and see Donna and we won't be able to go until evening because we are babysitting and picking up kids for Darrel and Trina tomorrow. Darrel was supposed to have the kids but one of the guys he works with needed to switch with him. Darrel says this guy always accommodates him so he wanted to do this for him, hence I said I would babysit.

Susan is a friend from Chandler. James used to
do repair work for her at her house all the time.
Her daughter Christine was married to Cody Birch.

Our dear friends the Tolman's and their grandchildren.

Lola lookin' good in a blue sports car.

Darrel & Trina's rental house. A few more
weeks and they will be gone from this house.

I brought each of the kids a surprise egg.
The frog is Lola's and the bunny is Ruby's.
Rowan got Star Wars and we aren't sure what
Addy's was.

 Love this face!

 She's waving!

And This Is Life Eternal
Elder C. Scott Grow
" When you pray with faith, you will feel God's love as His Spirit speaks to your soul. No matter how alone or uncertain you may feel at times, you are not alone in this world. God knows you, personally. As you pray, you will come to know Him."

That Our Light May Be a Standard for the Nations
Elder Benjamin De Hoyos
" The continual holding of general conference is one of the greatest testimonies to the fact that we as Latter-day Saints 'believe all that God has revealed, all that He does now reveal, and we believe that He will yet reveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of God.' (AofF9).
I testify that by learning 'line upon line, precept upon precept, here a little and there a little' and by hearkening to our leaders' counsel, we will have oil for our lamps that will enable us to give light unto others as the Lord commanded us."

I had an appointment with Hailey C. today for visiting teaching. She cancelled because Huntleigh was sick and she was taking her to the doctor. I prayed and asked Heavenly Father what I could do for her and the thought came, "make her cookies."  I ask if I could meet her at the Dollar General and bring her a treat. She said yes. I made two dozen chocolate chip cookies for her and met her in the parking lot with the cookies and a quote from the lesson about the priesthood.  I hoped I could say hi to Taylor and Braylin but they are in California on a vacation with grandma Virginia. They went to Harry Potter World, the aquarium, and the beach. Sounds like fun.

We picked up a bed frame for our kingsized be at Denver Mattress today. It even fit in my car! Now we just need to go home and put the bed, bed frame, box springs, and headboard all together.

La Casita re-opened!  We had dinner there. James got a green chili burro enchilada style. I got a chicken enchilada with red sauce and a beef taco. I hate to say it La Casita but I like Aliberto's tacos better.

When I get back home I know I should be cleaning somewhere but I am just too tired. I work on my blog instead.

President Dieter F. Uchtdorf

 Mosiah 21:23-22:16
31-32 The people make covenants with God.
35 The people of Limhi wanted to be baptized but no one had the authority.
Mosiah 22:1 - The people desire to be out of bondage.
3 Gideon has an idea!
9 The king likes Gideon's plan.
10 The people escape and return to Zarahemla.
T/S The temporal deliverance of the Lord's people is but a type, an illustration of the Holy One's role in delivering His chosen from the fiery darts of the evil one.
* What have you learned from Mosiah 21-22 that would give encouragement to anyone who needed to experience the Lord's power to deliver us from sin?
* Repentance is essential to your happiness in this life and throughout eternity.  Repentance is much more than just acknowledging wrongdoings.  It is a change of mind and heart... It includes turning away from sin and turning to God for forgiveness.  It is motivated by love for God and the sincere desire to obey His commandments.
* Elder Richard G. Scott: "The Lord will give relief with divine power when you seek deliverance in humility and faith in Jesus Christ.  Don't say, 'No one understands me; I can't sort it out or get the help I need.' Those comments are self-defeating.  No one can help you without faith and effort on your part.  Your personal growth requires that. Don't look for a life virtually free from discomfort, pain, pressure, challenge, or grief, for those are the tools a loving Father uses to stimulate our personal growth and understanding.  As the scriptures repeatedly affirm, you will be helped as you exercise faith in Jesus Christ....Faith in Christ means we trust Him; we trust His teachings.  That leads to hope, and hope bring charity, the pure love of Christ - that peaceful feeling that comes when we sense His concern, His love, and His capacity to cure us or to ease our burdens with His healing power."' ("To Be Healed," Ensign, May 1994, 8).

1-17 The Savior Quotes Isaiah on the Gathering of Israel.
DC 65-66
65 Revelation on prayer given through Joseph Smith the Prophet, at Hiram, Ohio, October 30, 1831.
The keys of the kingdom of God are committed to man on earth, and the gospel cause will triumph; The millennial kingdom of heaven will come and join the kingdom of God on earth.
66 Revelation given through Joseph Smith the Prophet, at Hiram, Ohio, October 29, 1831. William E. McLellin had petitioned the Lord in secret to make known through the Prophet the answer to five questions, which were unknown to Joseph Smith.  At McLellin's request, the Prophet inquired of the Lord and received this revelation.
The everlasting covenant is the fulness of the gospel; Elders are to preach, testify, and reason with the people; Faithful ministerial service ensures an inheritance of eternal life.
What is the difference between the kingdom of God and the kingdom of Heaven?
The kingdom of God is Christ's Church on the earth.  We are preparing for the kingdom of Heaven when Christ will come down from Heaven and lead His Church upon earth.
General Conference
Gathering the Family of God
President Henry B. Eyring
"Our Father ordained a plan by which we would come to earth, in families, and have experiences that would prepare us to return to Him and live as He lives.  The cultural element of this plan was the promise that Jesus Christ would offer Himself as a sacrifice, to rescue us from sin and death.  Our task in that plan is to accept the Savior's sacrifice by obeying the laws and ordinances of the gospel."

Here are some gospel study notes I took: We are commanded to repent of all our sins.  The Lord will show us the things we need to repent of.  If we are faithful in doing the Lord's will, He will be with us and will bless us so we can accomplish what He requires of us.  The Lord wants us to forsake all things that cumber our spiritual progress.  The Lord knows our specific challenges and temptations.  If we continue faithfully to the end we will receive eternal life.

After prayer and a few pages from "To Kill a Mockingbird," James left for the valley.  I won't be leaving until later this afternoon. He points out that the elk are here again this morning before he gives me a goodbye kiss.

Today after my gospel studies I paid bill, worked on my blog, Primary lesson, and family history.  I left for the valley around 3:30 and went through Salt River Canyon because of the sun and rush hour traffic.  After a couple of stops for gas and an ice cream, and a carwash at Sam's Club in Chandler to get the bugs off my grill and windshield, I arrived at Cathi's and Terry's around sundown.

They are having new tar paper put on their roof because of leaks, so all the tile pieces are taken off.  Cathi says they have been sick because they got the flu from James.  I feel so bad.
James is hungry so we go to IHOP to get something to eat.  I got the Swedish crepes.  The were very good but I couldn't eat them all so now I have something to look forward to in the morning.

Yummy!

It is pretty late when we get back to Cathi and Terry's and since James will start early in the morning, we go straight to bed.
