We left for the valley at 5:55, going the Payson way. We had to short construction stops. My appointment was at 9:30 at AARA so we went straight there. I had my infusion first and then had both of my shoulders x-rayed. James waited for me at the Culver's close by. While there he had a cod fillet sandwich. He picked me up and we drove across the street to Costco. James was meeting Armando in the parking lot, something to do with the hearing next week. I went on in to Costco with my membership card wondering how James would get in. I guess if he has a problem he can call me.

I can't find Pom or Acaia juice or Rise bars or Swifer duster replacements. I get walnuts, laundry detergent, non-adhesive contact paper, and shakes for James. James showed up in time to heft the case of shakes for me. We check out and I tell James I want a hotdog minus the bun for lunch. I pay my $1.50 and wait in line for my dog and Coke Zero. Costco finally changed over from Pepsi to Coke.
It doesn't sound like much but I really enjoyed my hotdog with a little mustard and relish and my Coke Zero with lots of ice.

James brought all of the papers down for his hearing next week. They have to be in this week and instead of mailing since we were coming down anyway he decided to hand carry them in.

I put the address, 1740 W. Adams, Phoenix in my app and away we went. We took the 60 to the 10 to the 17 to 19th Avenue to Monroe St. where we turned right and ended up at 1740 W. Adams. James went inside and I waited in the car until I realized I needed to use the little girls room. I entered the building to meet a guard. I told him I was looking for my husband and he said he thought he was downstairs. He checked my bag and about that time James appeared. I said Hi and told him I needed to use the restroom. The nice guardsman points me in the right direction and away I go. James and I then left the building together.

Back to the east valley to Stacy's house to get my phone charger that I left. Stacy is there and we talk a few minutes I leave two copies of the temple prep books I ordered from the Church website.

On to see Mom at Cathi & Terry's. Cathi was having a meeting on the computer regarding her family history meeting. James and I visited with Mom, Terry, Wally and Zoey. Mom seems down, upset with Dawn who spends most of her days at the house in Tempe with Heather whom Mom does not like. She says she can't read and she is bored. I think she feels like she is intruding on Cathi & Terry's life.
I need to speak with Cathi later about getting Mom an audio book program for her phone. We didn't stay too long before saying goodbye. Mom says Gail is coming this weekend and she is hoping he can talk some sense into Dawn. I'm not exactly sure what she meant but it's another indication that she is not happy with Dawn right now. As I was leaving Cathi handed me and bag and said it was my birthday present from Mom and Dawn and I wasn't to open it until my birthday.

Our last stop before heading home was at Deseret Book in Gilbert. It's one of my favorite stores and I could probably spends hours there but I am here for only one thing and that's a copy of Sister Uchtdorf's small book, "The Light We Share." I brought my copy with me and showed it to a sister who offered to help me. She took me to the back of the store and she pulled the book from the shelf. She brought it up front and I paid for it. It was time to go.

We are going home the Globe way. We finished listening to "Follow Him" and listened to "The Heirs of Falcon Point" the rest of the way home. James stops at the Speedway station in Globe for gas and a tuna sandwich.

We thought we might have some rain but it wasn't so. Vernon was as dry as a bone. I had a bowl of veggie soup for dinner. I walk until I get my 10,000 steps and spend some time with Tom before going to bed. James and I are both very tired because of our short sleeping night last night.

Priesthood Power - Spiritual Treasures, D&C 25, 84, 107

Up at 4:22. What a wonderful life I have! I am so blessed and grateful!

As part of our "Come Follow Me" study we listened to a talk President Nelson gave in the October 2019 General Conference called, "Spiritual Treasures." This talk was given to the women back when they had women's sessions of general conference. President Nelson wants us to better understand the priesthood and our part in it. He asks us to study sections 25, 84, and 107 of the Doctrine & Covenants to better understand priesthood power available to all and more specifically to women. I have re-committed myself to do this again. This is one of my all-time favorite talks! It is so powerful!

James had to go back to the Hipps's to take down forms as they changed their minds about how much concrete they wanted to pour.

I got a new cordless iron and I'm still struggling to learn how to use it. I'm trying to iron on patches to James's work pants and right now it isn't working. I will figure it out.

I just finished section B of my new puzzle and it looks like there is a piece missing. The first puzzle I got from this company had four pieces missing. As much as I love these puzzles they need a little better quality control.

This morning I also listened to "Grace to Become" by Emily Belle Freeman, "Small and Simple Things" by President Oaks, and "Receive His Gift" by Elder Kearon. I feel like I have been spiritually fed.

James came home, ate some lunch and took a nap. I take a quick nap and read from my books, "Look Unto Christ In Every Thought" and "To Be a Jew." After my rest time I get ready to go shopping. It was 3:30 when I walked out into the garage to get into the car. I wanted to leave by 3 but didn't make it. James decides he is going to go with me because he needs something at Home Depot.

We had to stop for construction but it's exciting to see the new pavement. James drops me off at Walmart while he goes to Home Depot and Circle K. I am shopping for baked ziti and snickerdoodles. Bakes ziti for Bunco on Thursday and snickerdoodles for Vernon Day on Saturday. It is after six when we get home. James has to unload forms after carrying in groceries. I put groceries away, watered my flowers and fixed more homemade veggie soup. James and I actually sat down at the table and ate together and then he worked on preparing for his hearing next Wednesday. He has to take all of the paperwork in to Phoenix tomorrow while we are in the valley. He needed some help on the computer so I helped him. It is around midnight when we finally go to bed.

'Grace Where You Are'
A.S.K. - 'Small and Simple Things' - President Dallin H. Oaks, AGC 2018

James came in and woke me up a little after 5. We both feel lousy and crippled in the mornings.
James is leaving to work at the Hipps's in Pinetop. We had family prayer, I always say it in the mornings and James says it at night, and we read the 'Come Follow Me' lesson introduction. James will listen to the Book of Mormon on the way to Pinetop. I sent him the reading assignment, Alma 41:1-15. I prayed for his safety and that he would feel well once his Tramadol kicked in.

I went to work on my schedule. Gospel study and basics until 9 a.m.
9-11 blogging and 11 to do list and then lunch and R&R. Stacy called just as I sat down to eat a piece of chicken. I told her I would call her back, which I did. She had two pieces of news, the first regarding her business and the second was about Joshua.

Leland wants Stacy to be a mentor to his new students who are just starting out in the business. She is excited about this because it would mean another stream of income for her. This wasn't her big news, her big news was about Joshua.

We have all been very disappointed and worried about Joshua going to N.A.U. Not only because of Alana but because of the cost and the liberal environment at this university. Today he, Stacy, and Paul attended his cousin Zane's mission farewell. Joshua announced afterwards that he needed to talk to both her and Paul. He rode home with Paul and told him and then he sought out Stacy and told her. He is not going to go to N.A.U. It just doesn't make sense to spend that much money on an undergraduate program. (Stacy said him going had been like an anvil on her chest and she had been asking him all week to explain to her the "why" behind going, which he never did.) He had said he wanted to be a lawyer but that was only because of Nicole's husband Chad and the amount of money he makes as an attorney. A few years ago when they were in San Diego they went on a boat ride. Joshua was intrigued by the Merchant Marine Captain of the boat and what he had to say about his career. That is what Joshua says he wants to be now. He has decided not to go to school this semester but try to work two jobs and save money for a car. While we are relieved about him not going to N.A.U., I am still disappointed that he does not want to serve a mission. I am not giving up though. He has too much to offer as a missionary for me to give up.

Kerri Halcomb came over this afternoon and brought me my new wagon. Here is a picture:

Thank you Kerri!

My payment is to buy Kerri's mom the book, "The Light We Share" by Sister Harriet Uchtdorf. A small price to pay for this 'wagon' as I was going to buy the book for Catherine anyway.

When James came home he had bought two trees to replace the ones of ours that died. He planted them immediately. He also picked up the mail, temple booklets, iron, charge cord for my hand vacuum, Perk, baking soda, and a new flag holder. James puts up the flag with the new holder. He is on a roll.

I made Weight Watchers vegetable soup for dinner. James and I each got a bowel and I took the rest to Pat Tedder. Something has been wrong with her oxygen flow, she discovered it was turned way down. She turned it up and now her oxygen level is much higher.

I planted my marigolds this evening.

Up at 4. I have a shake with my Tram & Ty. I finish up my lesson, quotes, handouts, go over outline. Pray, pray, pray.

We left around 8:35 for church. Ward council was over so we had no problem getting in to the Relief Society room. James helps me setup as he normally does. Kerri Halcomb was in the room too. She was feeling generous towards me today and said she would sell me her cloth wagon for $5. I was very excited as I have wanted one for a very long time! Thank you Kerri.

Kate Jensen and Jennifer Golly sang during the prelude today. They sang "It Is Well with My Soul" and "My Shepherd Will Supply My Need." There were the opening and closing songs in sacrament meeting. They sang beautifully together.

The music committee were the speakers in sacrament meeting today:

Kate Jensen - just graduated from high school. Loves music. In Millennial Choir in the valley since she was 4. The last performance of the choir was "Christ Coming to America." We can watch this on YouTube. The person who played Christ was filled with the Spirit.
2 Nephi 4 - Awake my soul, no longer droop in sin.
D&C 25:12 - My soul delighteth in the song of the heart, for the song of the heart is a prayer unto me.
"When God asks us to do something we should do it." Music is a source of light. "I Believe in Christ" - last line.

Kristine Hipps - In the mid 1990's Kristine was called to be the stake music chairman for her Gilbert stake. New directive, all music in sacrament meetings is to be from the hymns. Kristine didn't like the hymns, she thought they were slow and boring. She began playing the hymns everyday and soon she learned to love them. 1 1/2 years later she became a single mom with 3 kids. She had to get a job and started college. They hymns got her through this most difficult time. Had to sign divorce papers and thought of the hymn, "There Is Sunshine In My Soul Today." Kristine went from a hymn hater to a hymn cheerleader. Hymns can touch our hearts. In order to learn to love the new hymns she suggests we do the following three things:
1.) Repetition 2.) Time 3.) Spirit. The new hymn selection process was very complicated, going to several committees before going to the 12 and the First Presidency. 17,000 hymns were submitted. Hymns increase our faith and unity. The three most popular new hymns are: "Amazing Grace", "Come Thou Fount", and "Gethsemane."

Jennifer Golly - Joined the Church in 2008 when she was 25. She joined her first choir when she was 7. When she was 11 she moved to Snowflake. She was in another choir in the Catholic Church. Attended Music Camp at N.A.U. Joined the Church, and taught Primary and began listening to the hymns. They became part of her testimony. She sings the hymns to her boys at night. Inspired music invites revelation. The Lord has provided the tools. The Lord loves effort. Learn the hymns. Sacred hymns speak the truth and can heal the heart.

Here were some of the contributors in Relief Society today during the lesson, "Your Repentance Doesn't Burden Jesus Christ: It Brightens His Joy." Tamara Applegate - "when we repent or stop a bad habit we need to replace it with something else". India Sedig, Cheryl's daughter-in-law, Natalie Robles, Kerri Halcomb, and Millie Scott. I love the Relief Society sisters! Barbara Tignor said my lesson was terrific! She is so sweet.

When we get home I ask Joe and Michael if they were ready for Smash Burgers and Beans for lunch. They said it sounded good but they were ready to go home. We took their picture and said goodbye. Before they left I asked if I could send them Book of Mormon scriptures to read everyday. Michael was a definite yes, Joe was a little hesitant but agreed.

Two great guys and a dog

James and I had Smash Burgers for lunch and then it was nap time. During my R&R I read from "To Be a Jew" and "Look unto Christ..."
When I got up I put all of my lesson things away.

Evan is the only responder today to the scripture lesson. I blog July 19th and it takes forever to post the photos. I water my flowers and James waters the trees and grass.

I took a shower and washed my hair because I love how it makes me feel. I text Jennifer Golly and tell her that it is a good day at Church when Jennifer Golly sings.

Addy picked a new talk for our A.S.K. group. It is "Small and Simple Things" by President Oaks from the AGC of 2018. I wanted to work on my July 19th blog post but James was going to bed and I went to bed instead.

Up at 3:38. The first thing I did was go to the refrigerator in the garage and get out a strawberry protein shake, open it and drink it so I could take two Tramadol and two Tylenol because I can barely move. Then I go into the bedroom to my desk, get out my prayer journal and begin writing out my prayer to Heavenly Father.

I offered to make the boys omelets but they declined. They did say they would eat some ham, so we had fried ham for breakfast.

Michael, Joe, and Namira went into town to get some chicken at Walmart. I said I would watch Namira, but they might enjoy walking along Show Low Creek in the Meadow with Namira. They took her so that's what I thought they were going to do. While they were gone James cleaned the shelves and doors on the inside of the refrigerator. I had taken all of the condiments, etc., out earlier checking for expiration dates. Anything that was expired was thrown out. The rest of the items went into the refrigerator in the garage.

I told James that little chore he did made a big deposit in the Love Bank for me. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

When the boys got home I asked if they walked the Meadow. They said no they didn't think there was time. I was disappointed.

I took the chicken and after mixing up the marinate and putting the chicken in the bag it went into the refrigerator. I paid Michael for the chicken.

Janna asked if James could come to her moms and help Willy give her a blessing. Of course he said he would. James always wears a white shirt and tie and slacks when he gives a blessing. Willy was in his street closed and seemed embarrassed. I told him it was okay.

Willy and James talked a few minutes outside while I went in and visited with Pat and Janna. Pat is still on oxygen and struggling to keep it up above 88.

Willy's blessing was short and sweet, mainly telling Pat that Heavenly Father loved her. It was okay because he was so sincere.

On the way home we stopped to visit the Halcomb's. I gave Catherine her slippers and a book of mine to read: "The Light We Share." I told Catherine if she liked the book I would buy her one. She loaned me a book called, "To Be A Jew."

For dinner I made Rice-a-Roni chicken rice and green beans while the guys grilled the chicken outside. Everything tasted delicious. We ate outside and enjoyed the nice weather. Once we looked up and Namira was way out in the field by the horses. Michael yelled at her and she came running. He said, "that makes me want to let her have a little more freedom."

Michael did the dishes. I excused myself to go to my bedroom and work on my lesson for tomorrow. The guys won't leave tomorrow until we get back from church to say goodbye.

Sheri called me today. She had gone to a shower for Sheri Allen's daughter Paige who is getting married. Adrienne Ellsworth came to the shower and had quite a story to tell. Adrienne and Michael's son Dane got married and he and his wife had a baby and soon afterwards his wife passed away. Dane moved in with his parents and Adrienne is basically taking care of the baby, Emmett. She took a leave of absence from her job. Sheri and I both love Adrienne. I was Adrienne's counselor when she was the Relief Society President years ago and I really enjoyed working with her.

I was up at 3:49. The first thing I did was have my prayers and then I put heat rub and the heating pad on James's shoulder.

Next I went into the kitchen and made the banana pudding for tonight's party with Owen & Charlotte. James and I are going to the temple this morning and so I had to make this early so it would be in the refrigerator at least 8 hours.

We left for Snowflake at 8 a.m. We only had to wait a few minutes for the pavers on the 60. We made it to the temple at 9 for our 9:30 session. I was surprised when I walked into the ordinance room and the sisters side was almost full. I sat in the last seat on the 4th row with only one row behind me. There were not nearly as many brothers as there were sisters. I was worried that James's neck would make him miserable, but he said it didn't bother him.

After our session we went to Eva's for lunch. I had their chili relleno with green sauce. James had a chicken enchilada with green sauce and a side of refried beans. We beat the crowd and were finished with our delicious lunch just as the crowd started coming in.

We had to stop a short while for the pavers on the 60. They are making good progress and I can hardly wait for them to finish.

After changing our clothes and putting our temple suitcases away James and I both took a nap on the recliners in the family room, each with a heating pad on our neck.

James said he was miserable when he got up. I was sorry to hear that. I felt much better.

This afternoon I made calico beans for tonight's dinner.

James is still in so much pain. We had "Come Follow Me" this afternoon since we missed it this morning.

This Owen and Charlotte party was fun. We had good food, friends, and fun. After eating we all went around and said something about Owen. When we were finished Owen went around and said something about each one of us. He is pretty funny. He said Kathy Crane was a busy body and although she wasn't the Relief Society President, Ruth Wallace was, that Ruth would do whatever Kathy says. He said I knew more about the Book of Mormon than anyone he had ever met. He called Teresa Smith a bumble bee. He said that the people here in Vernon "think celestial" and are celestial and the people in Bugaloosa are telestial. They just bought a mobile home in a place about 10 miles from Bugaloosa called Franklin, Louisiana. They have to drive about three or four hours to go to the Baton Rouge temple and sometimes they will do back to back sessions. I really like his wife Charlotte, she seems like someone I could be friends with.

Up at 4:25. My feet, hands, and neck are hurting yet again. I pray first then get a shake and take my Tramadol and Tylenol.

I got not response from R.E.J. yesterday regarding the scripture question. On a brighter note both Max and Adam did answer.  I told R.E.J. when I sent the scripture reading and question this morning how much their answers mean to me. Hopefully I will get a response today.

I had my day all planned. My morning chore was to make the banana pudding I am taking to Owen & Charlotte's dinner tomorrow evening. I have to make it at least 8 hours before serving it because that's how long it sits in the refrigerator before serving.

I texted Janna to see when I could come and see her mom. Janna has been staying with her mom. She said, "Now is a good time", so I got ready and left. On the way I stopped and put Pat's name on the temple prayer roll along with Jared Ammon's, Michael's, Joe's, and Rowans.

Pat is on oxygen. Her level is up to 88 which is the bare minimum, which is a bit of a concern.

Pat loved her slippers, they fit her perfectly, and she loved the little heart-shaped jewelry box too. I stayed and visited for awhile.

Pat's son Jeff stopped by. James new him years ago when he use to pour concrete path for Wadsworth Golf Course and Jeff worked for Wadsworth.

I started the banana pudding when I got home. All of the cold stuff is in the frig in the  garage which is a little inconvenient, but I'm not complaining, I'm just glad we have the refrigerator. It really saved us.

My whipping cream is curdling.  It is probably because it got too warm. I panic and try to call James who is at Hipps's. I want him to stop on the way home and get me some more. He never answers the phone so I text him, still no answer. I give up on making banana pudding today. This evening we are having a BBQ with the MacArthur's and the missionaries.

I take a little R&R, which to me means read and relax. I read from my book, "Look Unto Christ in Every Thought." I relax but really can't go to sleep.

James comes home and while I am fixing his lunch I tell him how frustrated I am because he never answered my phone calls. I needed him to stop at the store and get me some more whipping cream.

He goes in to take a shower while I begin setting up outside for our BBQ. Everything looks great. I put a table by the grill to put all of the food on. On the patio there are three tables setup for eating. The cornhole game is set up and I have a basket with a soccer ball, squirt guns, wiffle ball, and croquet.

James decides he's going to go to the store right now to get the whipping cream. I call Dollar General and Stanford and neither one of them have any whipping cream. James takes off for town and I hope he makes it back by six but I highly doubt it, especially with the stops for road work.

At six o'clock the door bell rings and it's the MacArthur's. Everything is ready, I have beans in one crockpot and mac & cheese in the other. I didn't get the strawberry spinach salad made because both the strawberries and the spinach were frozen. Jarred is asking his kids to take their shoes off when I tell them they don't need to because we are going right out into the back yard. A few minutes later Elder Clark shows up with a new companion. I think his name was Elder Espinoza from Columbia. They are on splits. Both the elders and Chelsea help me carry food into the back yard. James is still not back so I ask Jarred if he likes to BBQ. He says he loves to.
I was grateful. He asked for some olive oil to put on the grill. Good idea. I give him the hamburgers and hot dogs.

While Jarred is grilling the kids are playing in the yard and the elders are playing cornhole. I asked who was winning. Elder Espinoza said no one and Elder Clark said, "I am, 21-3."

James came just as we were ready to eat and gave the blessing on the food. It was a beautiful evening and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves.

Before the elders left they gave a message, which I was grateful for and then they offered a prayer. Before leaving they had a fun time playing with the squirt guns with the kids.

James did the dishes. He got a call from Armando who was almost in tears. He has his kids but his girls aren't happy and they want to go home. He asked James if he could borrow $900 to take them home. James and I were both more than willing to help him. Who knows if we will ever see that money again.
