"Simply Beautiful - Beautifully Simple"
Elder Gary E. Stevenson
Of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles
Today I hope to describe two elements of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ, followed by four stirring accounts from Latter-day Saints around the world demonstrating the application of these principles. The first element of the restored gospel - God's work of salvation and exaltation - focuses on divinely appointed responsibilities. The second element reminds us that the gospel is plain, precious, and simple.

The Family Proclamation
Paragraph #3
In the premortal realm, spirit sons and daughters knew and worshipped God as their Eternal Father and accepted His plan by which His children could obtain a physical body and gain earthly experience to progress toward perfection and ultimately realize their divine destiny as heirs of eternal life. The divine plan of happiness enables family relationships to be perpetuated beyond the grave. Sacred ordinances and covenants available in holy temples make it possible for individuals to return to the presence of God and for families to be united eternally.

Nothing posted on the Inklings website today which is worrisome because Emily always posts the next week study on Sunday morning. I have been a member of Inklings for over two years and this is the first time nothing has been posted. I am worried something has happened to her or someone in her family. I'm praying.

I worked on my blog and studied the Relief Society lesson this morning before church. The lesson is based on Elder Soares's conference address, "The Savior's Abiding Compassion" and is being taught by a new sister in our ward, Sister Sedig. I hardly know her but Tamara suggested that I ask her to teach.

James wanted to sit in the back at church and next to the aisle. The Hall's came in and sat by us, Denise, Ashten, the two granddaughters, Westin, and his girl friend. Westin introduced her to me since she sat right next to me. Her name is Kylee. I told her she was lucky to have Westin because he is a good guy. She agreed.

President Beeler was on the stand today and presided at our sacrament meeting. He came to release Brother Grapp from the bishopric as first counselor. He then called Brother Allen to be the first counselor in the bishopric.  This was totally unexpected but I think maybe Brother Grapp is needed more at home.

Today was the ward Primary program. For a small Primary the kids did very well especially singing. Little Emsley stole the show with her favorite scripture story about Jesus. She did not use a paper and told the story of Jesus walking on the water so well and with such feeling. It was pretty amazing!

For the first time in years the song, "Give Said the Little Stream" was a part of the program. They have revised it a bit and the last verse says, "Give then as Jesus gave, give oh give, give oh give..."
This is a song we sang when I was in Primary as a child and I have not heard it very much since then. I'm glad it's making a comeback.

The last song the kids sang was "Gethsemane" which is beautiful and they did a great job. Afterwards Bishop Hunsaker shared his testimony and then he called on Chuck Crane to give the closing prayer and what a prayer it was. Chuck prayed for everything needful in a most eloquent way. He also asked blessings upon the Goodman's who have been through Covid and are now suffering with pneumonia. He then asked blessings for James and for Sister Patrick. Sister Patrick has to have more heart surgery and is going to have a pacemaker put in. He also prayed that our country would return to its greatness. It was a heartfelt, touching prayer.

There were just a few of us in the Relief  Society room before the meeting started. I turned around and said to Sister Sedig, whom I barely know, "Are you ready to teach?" She looked at me and said, "Oh no, is that today?" I looked back and said, "Yes." My heart dropped until she started laughing. I guess she has quite a sense of humor. She did very well with the lesson and we got a lot of participation because it was a topic that lends itself well to discussion. The great thing is that the Relief Society room was full!

We weren't home from church very long when I got a text from my friend Pam. She said she left us some goodies on the front porch. Boy did she ever. Two large cheese Danish, one with raspberry filling and the other with cherry. Also, two chocolate donuts. James and I finished off everything before the end of the day. Tomorrow she says she's bringing some of her dad's homemade stuffing. I hope I survive all of this delicious food.

Tonight James and I watched the Hallmark movie, "One December Night" starring Elouise Mumford and Brett Dalton. It was so much better than I thought it would be. Hallmark is doing a good job this year and providing some diversity with their Christmas movies.

While we were watching our movie I got a text from Tamara saying the Goodman's were being taken in an ambulance from their home to the hospital in Show Low. We stopped the movie and James offered a prayer for them. We are both so worried, especially about Barbara who has a pacemaker and asthma.

In bed before 10.

The Covid-19 pandemic has been one of the many trials and challenges that God's children have confronted throughout the history of the world. The pandemic and other causes brought death and pain to our family through the passing of some dear loved ones. Despite medical attention, fasting, and prayer, during the course of five weeks my brother Charly, my sister Susy, and my brother-in-law Jimmy crossed to the other side of the veil.
We feel intense pain when we experience the temporary separation from our loved ones. The Savior has perfect compassion for us. He doesn't fault us for our shortsightedness nor for being limited in visualizing our eternal journey. Rather, He has compassion for our sadness and suffering.

The Family Proclamation
#2
All human beings - male and female - are created in the image of God. Each is a beloved spirit son or daughter of heavenly parents, and, as such, each has a divine nature and destiny. Gender is an essential characteristic of individual premortal, mortal, and eternal identity and purpose.

Up at 4. Ready to go to the temple. I fix my oatmeal with blueberries and unload the dishwasher. After eating breakfast I go in to get ready to go. James gets up and checks my tires for me.

On the way to Snowflake I listen to Brother Halverson and then to my audio book, "An Engagement of Sorts." I arrive at the temple in time to get ready and make it to preparation meeting upstairs by 6:30. It seems funny being her by myself but I am glad I came. President and Sister Perkins are presiding. They talked about the remodeling in the second endowment room, the repaving of the parking lot because of a leak underneath it, and that women can now work at the recommend desk.

I am assigned in the baptistry for the entire time. That's fine, I won't have to go up and down the stairs. I work with Sister Neff and Sister Farr. This is the first time Sister Farr has been back since Covid and I am so glad to see her. She lives in Holbrook and I told her that's where I was born.

Our first "group" is due here at 7 a.m. Our group consists of one sister and one brother. The next group came at 8:30. I believe there were six of them, all brothers. We helped them get their clothing and handed them their towels when they came out of the water. Some of these young men are so tall! Each group is allowed one hour and they are strict about not letting them go over. That wasn't a problem today.

We had a smaller group of young men and young women at 9:45 and then our largest group was scheduled at 11. In this final group there were five men and three women. We had to stop one young man from baptizing a larger young man because he was not completely going under the water. I don't think the baptizer was even looking at him or he would have noticed that he wasn't dunking him deep enough.

Sister Neff went in to the confirmation room as is the rule when there are young women being confirmed. In the meantime Sister Farr and I take all of the women's wet clothing to the laundry room and then put the carts back in the dressing room. It was after noon, and we just completed our last assignment of the day so we are ready to go home.

I stopped to get me some lunch at McDonald's minus the diet Coke. That may have been a mistake because I kept nodding off on the way home. Thank goodness I made it safely. James was happy to see me and said his prayers were answered. He told me about his day thus far and was actually in a pretty good mood. I am grateful he is feeling a little better.

I took a nap on the recliner and James joined me on the other recliner. After my nap I did some walking and then went in to work on my blog. I worked 20 minutes on my blog and walked 20 minutes, rotating until it was time to watch our Christmas movie at about 7:30. By this time I had over 8,000 steps and will finish up before the movie is over.

We watched a Hallmark movie, "The Family Christmas Tree." It was about a girl who has her DNA test taken and there is a paternal match, her father. She meets him and becomes part of the family only to get a call from the DNA company telling her there has been a mistake. She hesitates to tell the family until the night they are taking a family picture and she says there has been a mistake and she is not actually Richard's daughter. She leaves and everyone is sad. In the meantime Richard finds a picture of the girl he loved 31 years ago. When everyone looks at the picture they realize she has to be Vanessa's mother so they set out to find her. Vanessa is part of the family again and she and a family friend, Chris, played by my favorite, Andrew Walker fall in love. Aimee Teagarten is the actress and she is great! We both really liked this movie.

"Preparing For The Second Coming Of Christ"

Of the Seventy
As recorded in the Book of Mormon, six years before the birth of Jesus Christ, Samuel, a righteous Lamanite, prophesied to a Nephite people, who by then had become mostly apostate, of the signs that would accompany our Savior's birth. Tragically, most Nephites rejected those signs because it was "not reasonable that such a being as a Christ should come."

The Family Proclamation
#1
We, The First Presidency and the Council of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, solemnly proclaim that marriage between a man and a woman is ordained of God and that the family is central to the Creator's plan for the eternal destiny of His children.

Inklings
"After 10 years of increased temple attendance and constant prayer, I am sorry to say that my children's choices have not changed. But I have. I am a different woman... I have given up my time limits and am able to wait on the Lord... my expectations have changed. Instead of expecting my children to change, I expect these tender mercies and am full of gratitude for them... the Lord works in marvelous ways, and I truly am filled with the peace that passers all understanding."
- Virginia H. Pearce
("Prayer: A Small and Simple Thing", At The Pulpit)

Up at 3:47. The first think I had to eat or drink was a cup of hot chocolate with mini-marshmallows.
James left for his appointment around 7 at which time I decided to take a nap. James calls me and says he can't find his wallet. I look around here at home but it is not here. When James got home I looked in the car and even looked under it where he had fixed my tire. As I was doing this, I realized something and went inside the house to tell James. I reminded him that we took the truck yesterday, not the car. I asked him if he looked in the truck and he said "no, but I'm going to now."

James came back from the truck we a smile on his face and I knew he had found the wallet. He said it was right where he left it, in the side pocket. Crisis averted. Too bad we are so forgetful it took us so long to figure out the answer to the missing wallet.

James called Pierce today to borrow his trailer to get some sand and found out that both Pierce and Barbara have pneumonia. They got it just as they were getting over Covid. James could barely hear Pierce. It's so sad because Pierce had said a couple of days ago that they were fine. We are worried about Barbara especially because she has asthma.

I made a big pot of Wendy's copycat chili this afternoon in anticipation of the chili cookoff tonight, then James told me he didn't feel like going. I texted Tamara and told her we wouldn't be there and she was fine with that. We get the chili all to ourselves. I also made a batch of cornbread to go with it. The combination was delicious!

After dinner we watched a Christmas movie, "Open By Christmas".
Alison Sweeney and Brennan Elliott play the main characters and although James isn't really fond of Alison as an actress we really liked this movie!
"When Nicky finds an unopened Christmas card from an old secret admirer, she and her best friend embark on a quest to find the anonymous author.
