"Simply Beautiful - Beautifully Simple"
Elder Gary E. Stevenson
Of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles
Today I hope to describe two elements of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ, followed by four stirring accounts from Latter-day Saints around the world demonstrating the application of these principles. The first element of the restored gospel - God's work of salvation and exaltation - focuses on divinely appointed responsibilities. The second element reminds us that the gospel is plain, precious, and simple.
Paragraph #3
In the premortal realm, spirit sons and daughters knew and worshipped God as their Eternal Father and accepted His plan by which His children could obtain a physical body and gain earthly experience to progress toward perfection and ultimately realize their divine destiny as heirs of eternal life. The divine plan of happiness enables family relationships to be perpetuated beyond the grave. Sacred ordinances and covenants available in holy temples make it possible for individuals to return to the presence of God and for families to be united eternally.
Nothing posted on the Inklings website today which is worrisome because Emily always posts the next week study on Sunday morning. I have been a member of Inklings for over two years and this is the first time nothing has been posted. I am worried something has happened to her or someone in her family. I'm praying.
I worked on my blog and studied the Relief Society lesson this morning before church. The lesson is based on Elder Soares's conference address, "The Savior's Abiding Compassion" and is being taught by a new sister in our ward, Sister Sedig. I hardly know her but Tamara suggested that I ask her to teach.
James wanted to sit in the back at church and next to the aisle. The Hall's came in and sat by us, Denise, Ashten, the two granddaughters, Westin, and his girl friend. Westin introduced her to me since she sat right next to me. Her name is Kylee. I told her she was lucky to have Westin because he is a good guy. She agreed.
President Beeler was on the stand today and presided at our sacrament meeting. He came to release Brother Grapp from the bishopric as first counselor. He then called Brother Allen to be the first counselor in the bishopric. This was totally unexpected but I think maybe Brother Grapp is needed more at home.
Today was the ward Primary program. For a small Primary the kids did very well especially singing. Little Emsley stole the show with her favorite scripture story about Jesus. She did not use a paper and told the story of Jesus walking on the water so well and with such feeling. It was pretty amazing!
For the first time in years the song, "Give Said the Little Stream" was a part of the program. They have revised it a bit and the last verse says, "Give then as Jesus gave, give oh give, give oh give..."
This is a song we sang when I was in Primary as a child and I have not heard it very much since then. I'm glad it's making a comeback.
The last song the kids sang was "Gethsemane" which is beautiful and they did a great job. Afterwards Bishop Hunsaker shared his testimony and then he called on Chuck Crane to give the closing prayer and what a prayer it was. Chuck prayed for everything needful in a most eloquent way. He also asked blessings upon the Goodman's who have been through Covid and are now suffering with pneumonia. He then asked blessings for James and for Sister Patrick. Sister Patrick has to have more heart surgery and is going to have a pacemaker put in. He also prayed that our country would return to its greatness. It was a heartfelt, touching prayer.
There were just a few of us in the Relief Society room before the meeting started. I turned around and said to Sister Sedig, whom I barely know, "Are you ready to teach?" She looked at me and said, "Oh no, is that today?" I looked back and said, "Yes." My heart dropped until she started laughing. I guess she has quite a sense of humor. She did very well with the lesson and we got a lot of participation because it was a topic that lends itself well to discussion. The great thing is that the Relief Society room was full!
We weren't home from church very long when I got a text from my friend Pam. She said she left us some goodies on the front porch. Boy did she ever. Two large cheese Danish, one with raspberry filling and the other with cherry. Also, two chocolate donuts. James and I finished off everything before the end of the day. Tomorrow she says she's bringing some of her dad's homemade stuffing. I hope I survive all of this delicious food.
Tonight James and I watched the Hallmark movie, "One December Night" starring Elouise Mumford and Brett Dalton. It was so much better than I thought it would be. Hallmark is doing a good job this year and providing some diversity with their Christmas movies.
While we were watching our movie I got a text from Tamara saying the Goodman's were being taken in an ambulance from their home to the hospital in Show Low. We stopped the movie and James offered a prayer for them. We are both so worried, especially about Barbara who has a pacemaker and asthma.
In bed before 10.
