"This Is Our Time!"
Elder S. Gifford Nielsen
Of the Seventy
When we hear stories of God's mighty servants who came before us - like Moses, Mary, Moroni, Alma, Esther, Joseph, and many others - they seem bigger than life. But they were not that different from us. They were regular people who faced challenges. They trusted the Lord. They made the right choices at pivotal moments. And, with faith in Jesus Christ, they performed the works required in their time.

Articles of Faith
#4
We believe that the first principles and ordinances of the Gospel are: first, Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; second, Repentance; third, Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; fourth, Laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost.

"The truth will always triumph over error, and darkness will not continue on earth because of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ."
-Elder Thierry K. Mutombo

I was up at 5:30 this morning. For the second time this week, I had to adjust my phone storage.

I had scripture study from the Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants, and the "Come Follow Me" lesson with James as I do everyday. I also listened to Tyler and Taylor on "Book of Mormon Central" as part of my "Come Follow Me" study. One of the key principles this week is the principle of forgiveness. One of my favorite scriptures this week, is found in D&C 64:9-10

9 Wherefore, I say unto you, that ye ought to forgive one another; for he that forgiveth not his brother his trespasses standeth condemned before the Lord; for there remaineth in him the greater sin.
10 I, the Lord, will forgive whom I will forgive, but of you it is required to forgive all men.

Another favorite scripture from this week's reading in DC 64-66

D&C 64:33
Wherefore, be not weary in well-doing, for ye are laying the foundation of a great work. And out of small things proceedeth that which is great.

James set two mouse traps this morning. One was under the oven and the other under the refrigerator. He also told Stacy that mice don't generally come out in the day time.

James and I went to town around noon. We invited Stacy to go with us because we were planning on going to LaCasita for lunch. She thought about it and then decided she was too tired and was going to take a nap. She said she didn't sleep very well last night because she had a few small seizures.

It was overcast when we drove into town, not completely but in certain areas. One of those areas was where we were. When we got out of our car  we actually felt a few rain drops. Exciting!

I changed up my order a little and so did James. I normally order a chicken enchilada with red sauce and a side of rice and beans. This time I felt like ordering a machaca taco to go with my chicken enchilada and no beans or rice. James ordered a green chili chimichanga with rice and beans. He forgot to order it enchilada style but he said it was still good.

While I shopped at Walmart James went across the street to Circle K to get gas and wash the car. When he got back to Walmart I was almost finished shopping. James's part of the shopping was to pick out a watermelon and a cantaloupe. While James was loading the car in the parking lot and I was eating my Snickers bar in the front seat and feeling guilty, Stacy called. She said it was raining in Vernon. That is good news! It's not raining here where we are anymore. She asked if we could go to Culver's and get her a roast beef sandwich with aujus and a drink, half diet coke (turned out to be Pepsi) and half rootbeer. Of course the aujus was forgotten by whoever packed the order and we had to request it again. I'm not sure some of the people who work here know what aujus is. Can you believe that this small order cost $9.33?

As we drove home we could see a dark cloud near Vernon. By the time we got home the rain was over and you could not even tell it rained. After putting the groceries away Stacy and I sat on the front porch. It was cool, overcast, and smelled so good because of the rain and breeze. Stacy wanted to go on a Razr ride to look for animals. I ask James if he would pump up the flat tire with the compressor. He said he would but then he laid down to take a nap. I had to remind him and felt bad that I woke him up, but I had asked him earlier.

We put on windbreakers and scarfs and took off on the Razr. As we got down to the corner by our neighbor Pierre's place I saw the backside of an animal. At first I thought it was a horse but then I realized it was an elk and he brought his friends with him. Stacy was looking at her camera and I told her to look up. When we stopped to take a picture, the elk trotted a few yards away and then stopped and turned and looked at us. Stacy was able to get some pictures and was happy we saw animals so close to the cabin.

Even though we did not see any other animals on our ride up to Gillespie Flat the ride was heavenly. The weather was perfect, the air cool, there were great pine tree smells and beautiful views,  and best of all, no dust or other vehicles! It was a little bit of heaven.

Since we saw no animals on the Green's Peak road, Stacy wanted to go see if the antelope were in the field by the highway across from the post office. When she came in yesterday she said she saw a herd. James and I missed them. We could see a couple of things we thought were antelopes but there are some light colored shrubs in the field and that could have been what we saw. I took her to the field up by the Halcomb's and told her this was a place that elk like to feed. Through the trees Stacy saw one elk. She has great ability to see animals far away. We looked at him and he looked at us for awhile and then we left. I'm not sure where his/her friends were. When we got back home James told us that this is the time that the elk cows are having there calves. They will leave the calves bedded down while they go look for food. This was probably a cow elk we saw and she probably had her baby hid close by.

This evening Stacy wanted to watch a movie. She gave us the choice of "Man of Steel" or "Knives Out." She said "Knives Out" was the best but it had bad language. I told her I did not want a movie with bad language to play in our home so we watched "Man of Steel."
"Man of Steel" was made in 2013. The actor who plays Superman is, according to Stacy, the best looking man on the planet. His name, I think, is Henry Caval. I had to admit he was very good looking. The movie was way to violent and just went on and on. Violence is not good for your spirit and I don't think the Holy Ghost can be present. This is why James and I don't watch PG13 movies. Stacy was very apologetic about the movie.

The mouse did not make an appearance tonight. She did get the peanut butter that James put on the trap under the frig.

"You Can Gather Israel"
Ahmad S. Corbitt
First Counselor in the Young Men General Presidency
President Henry B. Eyring taught, "It took faith in Jesus Christ to sustain the plan of happiness and Jesus Christ's place in it when you knew so little of the challenges that you would face in mortality." When Jesus Christ promised He would come into mortality and give HIs life to gather and save us, you did not simply believe Him. You "noble spirits" had such "exceedingly great faith" that you saw His promise as sure. He could not lie, so you saw Him as if He had already shed His blood for you, long before He was born."

Affirmation:
I am captained by my Savior Jesus Christ. He is the Light I hold up and the Foundation I stand on. Truth will Triumph and darkness will Lift as I choose to be changed by Him.

James and I left for the valley this morning at 6 a.m., in the truck pulling the Cat. The trailer was fishtailing so James stopped and repositioned the Cat. While he was stopped Pierce and Barbara went by on their way to Tucson. Pierce asked if he needed help. No he didn't but thanks for asking.

We had prayer before we left the house and then listened to the Book of Mormon and D&C in the car. We also listened to Talking Scripture my new favorite "Come Follow Me" podcast. Instead of taking notes, which I obviously can't do in the car, I am going to go on their website and print the show notes.

We stopped in Payson at the Speedway gas station so I could use the restroom and James could get gas. He could not find a pump that was open so we left. We ended up getting gas at the station on the Beeline as you come in to Mesa. We went straight to Lake Park Village where Armando is working this morning to drop off the Cat and the trailer. This is what we saw as we were coming in:

A turtle crossing the road. James said they put them in
the water to eat the moss. This one looks like he's
trying to find his way back.

As soon as James unloaded the Cat and parked the trailer, we were on our way to Chandler. James is taking me to Kim's and then going to his doctor's appointment where the urologist is going to discuss the results of his MRI.

Today is Brian's birthday so he stayed home from work. Kim had the house decorated and signs that said, "Merry Birthday."

Happy Birthday Brian and
also Dallin. I don't have a recent picture of Dallin,
but here is his girlfriend, Sarah.

Kim is still trying new healing methods. She had a book by Louise Hay, "Heal Your Body." Louise is a woman who was diagnosed with cancer. She told her doctor to give her three months. In three months time she healed herself of cancer. She had another book by a doctor, Kim D'Eramo called "The Mind/Body Toolkit." The concept behind these books and the other information Kim has been studying is that the body is designed to heal itself. Here are some new concepts she introduced me to today: "Emotional Freedom Technique," "The Tapping Solution." She said there were lots of videos I could watch on YouTube and an app I could get that would help me learn the tapping technique and how to use it.

James has to have a biopsy. The doctor said there are two abnormal cysts and that there is a 65% chance that he has cancer. He has an appointment on July 13th to have a biopsy. This is not the good news we were hoping for.

James and I had planned on going to Red Lobster for lunch. We invited Kim and Brian to go with us but they had already planned to go to The Hen House. Brian likes Red Lobster but the only thing Kim likes is the cheddar biscuits.

Red Lobster was rather quiet and not nearly as busy as Olive Garden which is across the street. I was craving Walt's Special Shrimp so that's what I ordered. Not as good as I had remembered but they were still ok. James ordered shrimp and scallops. James had garlic mashed potatoes and green beans and I had a baked potato and broccoli. My favorite part of the meal was the two cheddar biscuits I ate.

After lunch James dropped me off at Hobby Lobby to shop for bags for the cookies I am making for Father's Day. As soon as James drove away I realized I did not have my phone. It fell out of my back pocket when I got out of the truck. As James drove off I waved my arms at him, but he didn't see me. What could I do? I grabbed a cart and began my stroll down the aisles. I found the baking supplies and some bags for my cookies. As I turned the corner to go down the next section, there was James with my phone. Instead of going to Mesa to pick up the trailer, he came back to me to bring me my phone. After finding a star shaped cookie cutter and looking at the jigsaw puzzles, we headed for the checkout. After putting my items on the counter I tried to open the Hobby Lobby app on my phone. The clerk saw me and asked if I was looking for coupons. I told her yes and she said they no longer have the coupons. I had bought a box of thermal laminating pouches for $22.59 that I was going to use the 40% off coupon on. She asked me if I wanted to put it back. I said no. I've been meaning to buy some since Trina bought me my laminator.

We drove back to Lake Park Village so James could pick up the trailer. He needs to take some forms home that Armando has been storing in his back yard. Armando was not home but his son Chandler came out and helped James load the forms. Stacy called while I was waiting in the truck. She is coming up to Vernon today and she is ready to leave right now. I told her where we were and that she would probably get to Vernon before we did and would be locked out. She said she was stopping in Show Low to get a pizza and that would slow her down.

When we left Armando's James and I were out of drinks and were quite thirsty. We both wanted a drink from Sonic and it was Happy Hour. I told him if he went down Arizona Avenue/Country Club, there was a Sonic just south of Baseline. It was the perfect Sonic to pull a trailer through. Not crowded and room to make long turns. We both ordered a large cherry limeade. We love the Sonic drinks and ice. Our total cost was $1.84 because it was Happy Hour.

We drove out to Beeline straight down Country Club. There is still quite a bit of smoke from the four fires in the state that settles here in the Valley of the Sun, which now could be called the Valley of the Smoke. About 10 miles out of Payson I got a text from Stacy saying she was leaving Payson.

When we got to Show Low we had to stop for gas. We stopped at the small Speedway at the top of the hill as you are leaving town. Stacy called and asked where we were. When I told her she was excited to know we were in Show Low. She was leaving Pizza Factory so she was actually behind us, but passed us because we had problems at the gas station and finally had to go over to Maverick to get any gas.

When we drove into our place in Vernon Stacy's car was parked in front of the house, but no Stacy. When we stopped she came around from the back. I guess she was looking for an unlocked door. She had a funny story to tell about Luna. She said she saw Luna when she drove in, grazing in the field. Luna looked up when she drove in and then continued grazing. She had a different reaction when saw us drive up in the truck. Stacy said she took off running at high speed towards the corral. She was so excited that James was home because she knew he would feed her.

When Stacy gets here, after bringing in her suitcase, picks out a puzzle to do. She takes the items off the coffee table and puts them on the entry table. The puzzle she chose is the 1000 piece ice cream scoop puzzle I bought because she said she liked it when we were looking at puzzles online once when she was here. She likes doing the puzzle on the coffee table in front of the couch because she sits on the couch and watches TV while doing her puzzle.

Stacy said that when she was here by herself, the time she found the front door open, she went in to our bedroom because I told her she could sleep in our bed if she was nervous about going downstairs. She said she went in towards the bed and saw a big lizard on the wall which ran behind the bed. She just couldn't get in bed with that lizard under the bed. She told me her lizard story and I told her when I got home from the resort I went in to use the bathroom and saw a mouse swimming in my toilet. Yikes! I told James and he took care of it. When I asked him what he did with it he said he flushed it down the toilet. That wasn't a good answer for me. I said, "What if it comes back up. He proceeded to tell me why that was impossible. Stacy had the same reaction. She said, "I would be afraid it would come back up and bite me in the behind."

Stacy and I, and eventually James discussed Critical Race Theory and how we don't like it and don't want it taught in schools.

Our TV habits change when other people come to visit and this is especially true with Stacy. She loves British murder mysteries and is not a Hallmark fan like Kim and Sheri. The show we have watched the last few times she has been here is "Death in Paradise." It's a BBC show and Tara's husband, (Tara is Paul's half sister) Jeff did the sets on the show. It takes place on St. Marie island and the main character is an investigator sent from England to head up the police force. He always solves the crime. That's what we watched and then James and I said goodbye and went into the bedroom to go to bed. Just as we settled into bed we heard Stacy scream. James put his pants on and went out there, I was right behind him. She saw a mouse run from under one couch to the coffee table where she was sitting. She said it ran right towards her. Once a bat flew right by her when she was here and she referred to that. James looked under the table, not there. When he lifted up one of the couches Stacy saw the mouse run in to the kitchen. Now it's probably under the frig. Tomorrow we will set some traps. Stacy is now ready to go to bed. We say our goodnights again. If I had to title this post I would title it "Mouse, Lizard, Mouse." I'm wondering if we have any other lingering animals who took our open door as an invitation to "come on in."
