'Remember Your Way Back Home'
Jose A. Teixeira
Of the Presidency of the Seventy
One of the most important things we can do in this life is to recognize and remember the pathway back to our Heavenly Father and faithfully and joyfully persevere throughout the journey.
I though of four reminders that, when used and applied consistently in our lives, can rekindle feelings of our heavenly home.

'God Loves His Children'
Elder Taniela B. Wakolo
Of the Seventy
Our most valuable relationships are with the Father and the Son and with our own families because our ties to them are eternal. The great plan of happiness is a wonderful manifestation of God's love for us. With eyes riveted on God's plan, we willingly choose to carve out soil and rocks within us that support selfish desires and replace them with foundations that build eternal relationships. In a sense, this can be called "spiritual excavation." In performing our spiritual excavation, we must first seek after God and call upon Him (see Jeremiah 29:12-13).

The Living Christ
P#1
As we commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ two millennia ago, we offer our testimony of the reality of His matchless life and the infinite virtue of His great atoning sacrifice. None other has had so profound an influence upon all who have lived and will yet live upon the earth.

Be better, not bitter. Don't throw stones. Be a stonecatcher.

Family Memory
Addy was somewhere between 1-2 when this happened. Trina is in the bathroom and the phone rings. Addy puts her face under the door saying, "Hello, hello."

Today was the first day I have worked at the temple since February 29th, 2020. James is not going, he is feeling sick today. I left before 5:30 for a 6:45 prayer meeting. It is a beautiful time of day to be out on the road. Not much traffic and it is so peaceful. I listened to the two conference talks I had scheduled for today and also Alma 4 and D&C 57.

I was one of the first workers to arrive at the temple, which is a good feeling. I was greeted by Brother Elmer and Sister Elmer, our two co-ordinators. I visited with Sister Gentry in the dressing room and when I found out she knew Harold and Dennis and attended church in the downtown Show Low chapel where I attended as a teenager, I felt closer to her. On the way to prayer meeting I spoke with Sister Hamblin from Eager and asked if her daughter would be working today. She told me she got married and moved to SanTan Valley. A lot can happen in 15 months.

Brother and Sister Toronto of the temple presidency conducted our prayer meeting which was held in the downstairs chapel. After the meeting the first thing I was scheduled to do was meet with Sister Elmer for some training. She took me to the veil and showed me what I needed to do as far as sanitizing and having the patrons sanitize before coming to the veil. I also studied the veil dialogue sheet and felt like I was ready to be the first follower in the first session. Actually, the only sister follower in the first session because there is only one now instead of two.

Brother Gentry was the officiator. We had a new couple receiving their endowments and then they were going to be sealed. There were five other sisters and five other brothers. The group was from Holbrook. When Brother Gentry went to demonstrate how to go through the veil there was no receiver so he just stood there and listened to the moderator. Next, when it was time to go through the veil there were no receivers. Finally one came for Brother Gentry, but none for me. I finally went out in the hallway and told Sister Elmer. Soon Brother Bob Neff came to receive. None of the sisters in this group needed help at the veil except of course the sister who was doing her own endowment. After the session was over Brother Gentry apologized but I felt that much of what happened was not his fault. He obviously needed more training and others were not doing their part. Brother Vance came in and apologized.

Sister Elmer asked me to be in the prayer circle for the next session as they were one sister short. Sister Hamblin was the follower in this session and she came out to tell me that the curtain over the veil was still up. I told Sister Elmer and she said if the patrons were already in the room it was too late to do anything. Brother Webb, who was the officiator for this session refused to continue until the curtain was down so Sister Hamblin found someone else to help her. Soon the curtain was down and the session continued. I went in to be in the prayer circle and while like Brother Gentry, Brother Webb gave a beautiful prayer neither of them blessed the names lying on the alter.
Before leaving to go home I went into the records office and asked what Liana needed to do to make an appointment for baptisms. Sister Williams told me that the appointments are made a month ahead. The new calendar for July would come out the morning, starting at 1 am, of June 1st. I thanked her and when I got home I called Cammy and told her.

On the way home I got a junior burger at Sonic for my lunch. I was home a little after noon. James had some sad news to share with me. It was a very windy day today and Anthony's neighbor, Forest had decided to burn some trash in a barrel. The fire got out of control and spread to his house, which burned to the ground. It also went to the pump house. The firemen were not able to do too much because of low water pressure. Forest is devastated. He has a home in Chandler but he is raising cattle to sell and spends a lot of time up here. When Anthony called James he was very upset because he had some valuable items that were destroyed in the fire and he was going to tell Forest how stupid he was to build a fire on such a windy day. James told him that would do no good and would only make Forest feel worse than he probably already did. He told Anthony to offer him comfort and understanding and help him through this tragedy. Anthony thanked James and said he would do just that. Instead of a forest fire it was Forest's fire.

I came home and took a long nap and then got up to do some walking. James and I listened to the prologue for our new book, "A Banner is Unfurled." I started watching another movie on my phone starring Bailee Madison "Cowgirls and Angels."

It was a good day for me. I am so grateful I got to work in the temple.

'Our Sorrow Shall Be Turned Into Joy'
S. Mark Palmer
Of the Seventy
This conference weekend you will hear living apostles and prophets testify of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. "The fundamental principles of our religion are the testimony of the Apostles and Prophets, concerning Jesus Christ, that He died, was buried, and rose again the third day; . . . all other things which pertain to our religion are only appendages to this truth." I promise that as you listen with real intent, the Spirit will confirm in your mind and your heart the truth of these testimonies.

'Pressing Toward The Mark'
Elder Edward Dube
Of the Seventy
To press toward the mark is to faithfully continue on the "strait and narrow path which leads to eternal life" with our Savior and our Father in Heaven. Paul viewed his sufferings as "not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us." Paul's letter to the Philippians, which he wrote when he was bound in prison, is a letter of overwhelming joy and rejoicing and encouragement to all of us, particularly in this difficult time of uncertainty. We all need to take courage from Paul: "I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ."

Restoration Proclamation
P#9
With reverence and gratitude, we as His Apostles invite all to know-as we do-that the heavens are open. We affirm that God is making known His will for His beloved sons and daughters. We testify that those who prayerfully study the message of the Restoration and act in faith will be blessed to gain their own witness of its divinity and of its purpose to prepare the world for the promised Second Coming of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Inklings
The Savior can use our unfairness for our benefit.

Family Memory
When Joseph was 4, almost 5, I went to pick Kim up to go to the temple. He looked at me and said, "Grandma, you look cute."

I went into the bathroom this morning and thought I heard the water running outside. I went to tell James and when I looked out the window I realized it was raining. Rain is such a precious commodity in Arizona, especially when we weren't expecting it, that I almost shouted for joy!

James left for the valley early this morning. We said a prayer before he left. I prayed for his safe return. This quote seems appropriate:
"Keep your covenants and you will be safe. Break them and you will not." - Boyd K. Packer

I watched and listened to "Teaching with Power" by Ben Wilcox on YouTube this morning. Because of his visual aids I really do get the most out of his "Come Follow Me" presentation. I also watched a YouTube movie on my phone starring Bailee Madison called "Cowgirl." I really liked it.

The rain stopped hours ago but the wind continues howling. I cleaned James's office, which took awhile and my office upstairs. I still have to do the other two bedrooms and the common area, but I'm done cleaning for today. I will finish next week. Tomorrow I work in the temple.

James was home around 7 p.m. He brought ribs and cranberry celebration from Fry's. He said Burger House was closed. They sure take a lot of vacations.

James and I listened to the final chapter of "Danger on the Loch." Maybe someday I will get to go to Scotland. I also walked and listened to "The Crown of Rosemund."

We are grateful for our knowledge of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. And yet at some point in our lives, we will have felt heartbroken after losing someone whom we love dearly. Through the current global pandemic, many of us have lost loved ones - either family members or friends. We pray for those who are grieving such loss.

We gladly declare that the promised Restoration goes forward through continuing revelation. The earth will never again be the same, as God will "gather together in one all things in Christ" (Ephesians 1:10).

Family Memory
Charlie said this to me when we went to visit earlier this year:
"I'm glad you came to my house."
It melted my heart.

James woke up this morning and told me about a couple of dizzy spells he had when he got up during the night to use the bathroom. He walked around with the walking stick Gary Booth, Kaitlin's dad made, for the first couple of hours. I said the room was spinning around and I told him he had a case of vertigo. It soon went away.

James had a test done on his awhile back and Dr. Moffat never called him with the results, so he called the doctor. The doctor said he had a cyst on his kidney and they would need to do another test in a year. I guess it's not too serious if he's waiting a year to do another test.

The MRI machine is down at Summit Hospital so James's MRI for his prostate will need to be scheduled at a Banner hospital in the valley. We are just now finding this out. Hopefully he can get the MRI the week we are in the valley.

This from this week's "CFM" me lesson: "Covenant keepers are those who shall obtain mercy." I wouldn't want to be Leman Copley.

Our friend Darla Freeman is in the intensive care unit at the Scottsdale Osborn trauma hospital. This is the message that Chuck received from her husband Ron this morning: Darla is still critical and is scheduled for surgery at 3:30 tomorrow afternoon. Ron said he'd call me with an update after surgery.  Please continue to include Darla in your prayers.

I got rid of all my books on my Amazon sellers account so I thought I could close the account but I was wrong. I have to wait 90 day after the last book was sold which was on April 26th. In the meantime my account is $43 in the hole, which means that will be charged on my credit card.

I made taco soup for lunch today. James wasn't too happy. He thought we were going to have egg salad sandwiches made with the eggs the Grapp's gave us. He made this comment after his third bowl "I don't usually like taco soup that much but this is delicious! I told him the name of the recipe was: Best Taco Soup. That's why it's so good.

Today is my friend Pam Giles's 50th birthday. I have something to give her and a card. I was going to arrange to meet her and give her the gift and the card but at the last minute I had a change of heart. I texted her to wish her a happy birthday and told her I had a card for her. She seemed excited and said she hoped she would get it today. As I sat here looking at her card I realized after putting a stamp on it that I couldn't mail it. We would have to deliver it. We were planning on going to Benson's baseball game this afternoon and I thought we could drop the card off then but James said he couldn't go to the game because he had to get ready for his trip to the valley tomorrow. I told him my plan about dropping off Pam's card and asked him if he could drop it off in her mailbox. He did. She loved the card, she said it was beautiful and spoke to her soul and that she would keep it forever. I told her it reminded me of her and she said I nailed it!
This was Pam's birthday present from her husband, Ricky:

I love that he wrote Pammy on the cake!

This is what Pam wrote about the cake: This morning Ricky walks in singing HBD w/ this cake. Said he baked this and decorated himself. How? I don't have an oven. He smiles, he bought me a portable gas oven. I'm so excited!!! Yummy strawberry cake. This weekend I'm going to play with my new oven. It's the little things in life. He's so thoughtful. 30 years together and he finally baked me a yummy cake. He did awesome! I brought some to share with Jenny. (Put her on the temple prayer list please, Jennifer Long). Today was a good day. What's your favorite cookie? I'll make you a treat with my new tiny oven. I told her I liked oatmeal with walnuts. She said she has a great oatmeal cookie recipe.

I listened to Emily and Rio on Inklings Institute today. We are discussing Elder Renlund's talk, "Infuriating Unfairness" and John 8 along with some scriptures in Isaiah and Hebrews. Emily talked about a time when she felt like life was treating her unfairly. Her credit card was denied at the grocery store, her husband was out of work, she had a major serious illness, and she got no comfort from her job as a Primary teacher. She says she remembers one sharing time when she cried the entire time. One day her husband had her get in the car and they drove 13 hours to the beach. She sat on the beach for three days and the rhythm of the ocean reminded her of the rhythm of grace and the rhythm of spiritual healing.  She read Matthew 11:28-30 Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me: for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.

Instead of being fixated on our problems, we need to be fixated on Jesus and study his life and teachings like President Nelson admonished us to. We must come boldly to the throne of Grace.

I finished my book, "Until Vienna", and started a new one, "The Crown of Rosemund."

Ted Lines was in our ward in Chandler years ago.
He was the Sunday School President and would always
say "Think Sunday School." He flew a fighter plane in
World War II.

You never know when you might need some.

The easels for my plates came today.

Family Memory
June 2004 - Anna was 2 1/2. She was riding with me in my convertible VW. We passed Jared driving in his car. Anna said: "My Daddy is so pretty."

This question from the Come Follow Me lesson as considering all of the sacrifices these early Saints made for the gospel. I wonder, are we seduced by the gods of affluence and ease?

James got some disappointing news about the Lake Park Village job he is doing. They contacted him and said some of their equipment broke down and this would delay the job. He had scheduled to work on it the first week of June when we have the condo. It is going to be a good job and he is pretty discouraged. Also, Dr. Memon rescheduled his meeting with James from Friday morning until Friday evening. He wanted to be home Friday evening. I had to call Sheri and tell her he wouldn't be down to help her with her doggie door until Friday instead of Thursday.

Cammy texted me today and I texted her back telling her I had some proper romances by LDS authors that I would like to give to Liana. She was excited and asked if they could come over this afternoon after piano lessons. I said of course they could. I immediately got busy and made myself presentable. Once I was presentable I started a batch of chocolate chip cookies. They came while I was baking them. James was gone to the dump and then to Holly's to work.

The younger girls, Tildy and Emsley, and Benson, went upstairs to play. Cammy, Malea and Liana stayed downstairs with me. Malea was fascinated with James's caribou head on the wall. She looked at it for the longest time while her mom was holding her. Later she pulled herself up to the coffee table, looked at the head, pointed to it and began growling. It was pretty funny.

Cammy and I visited. I asked her about Emsley's horse and she said she is a registered quarter horse and cost $2,000. That is what James wants so I'm sure he will want to come and see her.

Liana gave me 5 tickets for the Navajo Taco dinner tomorrow night which is a fundraiser for the girls to go to camp. I took two of the tickets and told her to give the other 3 away or tear them up. She said she would. She loves the books I gave her and is excited to read them.

Before leaving Liana and Benson played a game of chess. They didn't quite finish so I told them to consider it a draw.

James got back in time to shower and get ready for his Elders Quorum presidency meeting this evening. I sent him with several cookies, some with walnuts and some without.

Stacy texted me this evening. Joshua's camp is at Nutrioso. She is going up on Thursday to pick him up and bring him to the condo. I told her she should come on Wednesday and spend the night at the cabin. She said she was a little freaked out to stay by herself so I told her she could sleep in our bedroom instead of downstairs. I also told her I had done in many a night. She seemed to feel a little better about it. Nutrioso is about an hour further than we are from the valley so it would probably take her 4 1/2 to 5 hours. I told her the house my grandpa Maxwell was born in is still standing.

This evening for indexing I started my first review. I think it's going to be easier than actual indexing. I'm excited to finish this first batch.

James wanted to read a couple of chapters from "Danger on the Loch" since two of the main characters have been kidnapped by terrorists.

This is a video of Charlie singing "I'm So Glad When
Daddy Comes Home" Kacey sent me directions on how to
download a video on Blogger. Hopefully I will be
able to download it.
