Jesus Christ Authority of
John 5:22
For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son:
Book of Mormon
2 Nephi 3:6-25
*Compare with Genesis 49:10,22,26.
This chapter, coupled with Joseph of Egypt's Patriarchal Blessing, are great confirmations to the truth behind the Book of Mormon and the gospel we believe. What are my favorite witnesses I found?
Old Testament
Exodus 37-38
37 Bezaleel makes the ark, the mercy seat, and the cherubims - He makes the table, the vessels, the candlestick, the incense altar, the holy anointing oil and the sweet incense.
38 Bezaleel and others make the altar of burnt offerings and all things pertaining to the tabernacle - Offerings are made by 603,550 men.
Old Testament Favorite Scriptures
Genesis 28:12-14
12 And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it.
13 And, behold, the Lord stood above it, and said, I am the Lord God of Abraham thy father and the God of Isaac: the land whereon thou liest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed;
14 And thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south: and in thee and in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed.

Spiritual Eclipse
Elder Gary E. Stevenson
" In my experience in the Church as well as throughout my professional career, some of the greatest, most effective people I have known have been among the most meek and humble.
Humility and meekness fit hand in glove. May we remember that 'none is acceptable before God, save the meek and lowly in heart.' I pray that  we will strive to avoid the spiritual eclipse of pride by embracing the virtue of humility."

From "Rescuing Wayward Children:" 'Enos increases his personal sanctification and his power to redeem increases. (p. 112-113.)
Catherine Thomas wrote, "Our ancestor and patriarch Joseph, who was sold into Egypt, was the model for us as he sanctified himself to have a sanctifying influence on his very troubled family and, like his Savior, exercised a saving power on his brethren." We, who are Joseph's children enjoy the blessings of Joseph's sanctification. Just so, parents who are willing to sanctify themselves obtain power to save their troubled children and bless their family for many generations. (p. 113-14 RWC.)
"The Savior's example of personal sanctification teaches us that we can sanctify ourselves and thus sanctify others by focusing on fundamental gospel principles and commandments, such as increasing our obedience, worthily partaking of the sacrament, fasting with purpose, attending the temple, and offering mighty prayer coupled with sacrifice." (RWC, 115.)

I tried working on my blog this morning at 5:30 a.m. but something is wrong and it won't load. I worked on my Primary lesson instead.

I read an article in the Ensign about the 2011 earthquake in Japan. The Lord does perform miracles in our behalf. No missionaries were hurt in spite of the devastation around them.

While reading and studying 2 Nephi 2 I came across this quote in a study guide I am using by Brother Eldin Ricks:
"In Lehi's inspired and profound discourse that comprises chapter 2 we find the theological and philosophical core of the Book of Mormon. Within the limits of this single treatise the prophet explains (a) t he hopelessness of man's plight without a redeemer, v. 5 (b) man's dependence upon Christ for his salvation, vs. 6-9, (c) the legal demands of divine justice, v. 10 (d) the reason for God''s allowing evil in the world, vs. 10-13 (e) the story of the fall of Adam and its purpose in opening the doorway to man's mortality in the midst of good and evil, vs. 14-25 (f) man's freedome to attain Eternal Life through the redemption of Christ, vs. 26-29."

I sure do love studying the gospel. I could probably do it all day but eventually I have to get up and do something. Actions speak louder than words!

We had a busy day here at home. James washed the car so it would be clean for the temple tomorrow. He worked on fixing the brakes on his truck. We both walked, I mended my black sweater that I wear every temple day and Sunday. I also washed my temple dress and cleaned the kitchen blinds and made chicken enchiladas and chocolate chip cookies and worked on my blog and Primary lesson.

Glad I made time!

The Living Bread Which Came Down from Heaven
Elder D. Todd Christofferson
" If we yearn to dwell in Christ and have Him dwell in us, then oliness is what we seek, in both body and spirit. We seek it in the temple, whereon is inscribed 'Holiness to the Lord.' We seek it in our marriages, families, and homes. We seek it each week as we delight in the Lord's holy day. We seek it even in the details of daily living: our speech, our dress, our thoughts. As President Thomas S. Monson has stated, 'We are the product of all we read, all we view, all we hear and all we think.' We seek holiness as we take up our cross daily."

Yesterday, when we returned from the temple we had no internet or phone service. This morning for awhile we still didn't have it. We were just getting ready to go in to Verizon to find out what was wrong. I thought maybe it was because I had not paid our bill. It was due on the 8th and I was going to pay it today, but I looked at the bill and now it is actually due on the 5th.

Just before we left it came back on and I noticed a post by one of my friends that no one had had internet or phone because one of the lines was cut. I had that the line was cut but relieved that it wasn't because I didn't pay my bill.  Needless to say the first thing I did was pay my bill.

James and I both did Autumn's marriage survey. There was a word that I wasn't sure the meaning of, egalitarian so I looked it up on Google: "All people equal and have equal rights."

We went to the dump in the car because the brakes are out on James's truck. Phew, I'm glad it is not too far away because the smell was not pleasant. After the dump we went to Dollar General where I got some valentine tins for my centerpiece.

The heart in the middle with the eyes is the tin
I bought.

We may have to make a trip to Deming because one of our renters is two months behind in her payments. Speaking of Deming, that's where my friend Hailey and her family moved. I got her address from her mother -in-law Virginia. Virginia sent me this picture of Hailey's house.

I guess this appropriate for a ranching family.
That's Huntleigh in the background and
Braylin and Taylor watching T.V.

I had to pay our propane bill today. It was $1,169.15. That takes a big chunk out of my budget. We stopped at the post office and there was a check from our renter who is behind for $475 for January. At least now she is only one month behind.

I decided to order new, cheaper programming from Dish. They are sending me new smart cards for all three televisions.

I started practicing in my caligraphy book that Trina and Darrel got me for Christmas.

I love the uniqueness of Arizona

Be Ye Therefore Perfect - Eventually
Elder Jeffrey R. Holland
" Brothers and sisters, every one of us aspires to a more Christlike life than we often succeed in living. If we admit that honestly and are trying to improve, we are not hypocrites; we are human. May we refuse to let our own mortal follies, and the inevitable shortcomings of even the best men and women around us, make us cynical about the truths f the gospel, the truthfulness of the Church, our hope for our future, or the possibility of godliness. If we persevere, then somewhere in eternity our refinement will be finished and complete - which is the New Testament meaning of perfection."

James wants me to budget but I keep thinking that he didn't include in that budget the money he spent on the patio. He has got to work with me here. I can budget but sticking to it is the problem.

On our way to the valley we made a deposit at the ATM at the Chase Bank in Show Low. James had to do it one bill at a time, and there were several. It took around 10-15 minutes. Next stop was the post office which James passed up. We had to turn around and go back.

James can't eat because of his colonoscopy but he stopped at Burger House to get something for me. I got a mixed burro and decided I like the plain green chili burros better, plus they aren't as messy. We listen to the Book of Mormon, the Old Testament, and Elder Holland's conference address. We also read from our book, "The Marshall takes a Bride."

We were 2 minutes late, we arrived at 11:47 at the Chandler Endoscopy center on Pecos and Dobson. James has nine pages of paperwork before his proceedures. I go for a walk around the building. When I get back it is time for him to go in. A few minutes later a nurse brings me his clothes and personal items. He is done by 1:05 and they call me back. The plan was for Kim to come and pick him up at 1:15 and take him to her house to rest while I went to the movie, "The Greatest Showman," with Stacy.

James felt so good that when Kim got here we decided we would all go to the movie. As soon as James was discharged and driven outside to the car in a wheelchair, which he protested, we drove to the Chandler Harkins at the Chandler mall with Kim right behind us. Stacy is meeting us there.

I dropped James off to buy four tickets while I found a place to park. While James goes in to find our assigned seats Kim, Stacy and I go to the snack bar where I bought everyone their snacks.

This theatre now has assigned and reclining seats. Nice. Stach said she enjoyed the movie and afterwards we talked about how much we like Hugh Jackman.

We were glad we got to spend some time with Stacy on her birthday! The child who made me a mother is 46!

James and I used the Cheesecake Factory card I got from Sheri for a late lunch/early dinner. I wanted crab cakes but instead of the entree they now only have six small one for an appetizer. That was my meal. James got the chicken Madeira. He deserved a nice meal after fasting and drinking gross stuff to get ready for his colonoscopy. He also had a tube down his throat and they found an obstruction which they tried to clear.
For dessert we shared a piece of lemon meringue cheesecake.

On our way home, I drove because James is not supposed to. We stopped for gas in Chandler and then our next stop was the McDonald's in Globe. While James was using the facilities, I went for a walk.

James decides he is going to drive the rest of the way home which is fine with me. He drives and I read. He predicts that we will be home by 8:15-8:20. Actual time: 8:17.

After unloading the car and putting everything away, and putting on my comfy clothes, I plop down in my recliner and turn on the T.V. I have only a little over 5,000 steps but I have no energy or desire to get anymore. James on the other hand walks and before the end of the day he has over 15,000 steps. He's an overachiever.

I watched a movie on Hallmark and then James and I watch an episode of "Victoria" together. We were in bed around 11.

I love this!

" Sometimes we feel that we don't have any particularly important gifts. One day, a discouraged sister pleaded, 'Lord, what is my personal ministry?' He answered, 'Notice others.' It was a spiritual gift! Since then, she has found joy in noticing those who are regularly forgotten, and God has worked through her to bless many. While some spiritual gifts may not be prominent by the world's standards, they are essential to God and His work."

"Our only hope for true perfection is in receiving it as a gift from heaven." - Elder Jeffrey R. Holland.

We went to the 11 a.m. session at the Snowflake temple. James wants to watch the officiator so he will know what to do when he is asked to officiate. We were the witness couple which is always a special privilege. We noticed the the officiator said very little and at one point I even thought maybe he was mute, but not so.

Before going home we stopped at El Cupido's for lunch. I had a Big Jake burro and a diet Dr. Pepper. They have the best ice!
We also stopped at Walmart and I got some things to add to my Valentine centerpiece on the dining room table. We also had to get some gas. One the way home we noticed lots of dark clouds above us. We went home the White Mountain Lake way and I must say I was not impressed although the road was paved all the way. They really need some zoning laws up here.

On the way home Jared texted and asked if we could do a marriage survey for one of Autumn's college classes. She needs to interview a couple who have been married at least 20 years. I told him we would work on it when we got home from the temple.

We really thought the clouds were going to bring us some moisture, which they did, but it only lasted a few minutes.

We got home to find out that our internet and phones were down. There was no way to contact Jared or Autumn to tell them of our situation. They were down all the rest of the day. I couldn't pay bills either. So I watched an episode of "Signed, Sealed, Delivered." I hadn't seen it before and I really enjoyed it but can't remember the name of the episode so I called it, "Until the Cows Come Home."

We also watched two episodes of "Victoria," "The Warp and Weft," and "Sins of the Fathers."

My knee started to hurt so I only got 4,650 steps today. James has over 20,000 steps. He has lots of people on Pacer who like his progress but someone named Denise likes his progress better than anyone.

We look so old!

" Elder D. Todd Christofferson has taught, 'A major reason the Lord has a church is to create a community of Saints that will sustain one another in the strait and narrow path which leads to eternal life.' He goes on to say, 'This religion is not concerned only with self; rather, we are all called to serve. We are the eyes, hands, head, feet, and other members of the body of Christ."

I came across these two quotes this morning while reading from "Rescuing Wayward Children:" "Holiness is the strength of the soul. It comes by faith and through obedience to God's laws and ordinances. God then purifies the heart by faith, and the heart becomes purged from that which is profane and unworthy." - President James E. Faust

"Sanctification is the process of becoming pure and spotless before God through the power of the sanctifier, who is the Holy Ghost, through true and constant repentance and a love of that which is good." - Blaine M. Yorgason

James and I went to lunch at Persnikkity's today. We were disappointed that they did not have our Philly cheesesteak sandwich. I ordered my second favorite thing, the chicken, green chili and bacon sandwich with sweet potato fries. James ordered the same thing except instead of sweet potato fries, he just had plain fries.  My friend Claire was there with a gentleman friend. She came over to me and gave me a big hug which made my day.
FH
After lunch we went to CVS to pickup James's prescriptions, and then on to Safeway for DP10, and then Walmart. We read from "The Marshall Takes a Wife."

Lee texted James and said that his daughter, Debbie fell and broke her neck so they have been going back and forth from Ramah to the valley to help take care of her. We put her name on our prayer list.

For F.H.E. we listened to this conference talk: "The Plan and the Proclamation" by Elder Dallin H. Oaks. I also did 3 blog posts today. Hopefully I will catch up before the end of the year.

We watched "Secret Valentine," starring Lacey Chabert and Andrew Walker and an episode of "Heartland" where Lou buys Maggie's Restaurant.

" Blessings will come not so much because of your abilities but because of your choices. And the God of the universe will work within and through you, magnifying your humble efforts for His purposes. His work has always advanced on this important principle: "Out of small things proceedeth that which is great."

We were a little late getting to church this morning. We arrived at the building at 8:50. We had lots of things to carry in for my lesson. I am grateful for James's help.

Our fast and testimony meeting was conducted by Brother Crane. It was his first fast and testimony meeting to conduct. The following people bore their testimonies: Brother Crane, Brother M. Wilhelm, Sister Johnson, Sister Smith who is leaving this Wednesday for the MTC, Brother Applegate, Brother Peeler, Bishop Hall, Brother Skousen, Elders Macy and Smith our fulltime missionaries, Sister Applegate, Brother Curtis, Brother Grapp, Sister Gillespie, Sister Kennedy and Jace was the only youth. We had these children from Primary bear their testimonies: Colter, Zemira, Curtis, Liana, and Benson.

It was a good fast and testimony meeting. I thought something Sister Kennedy said in her testimony was interesting. She said that when Elder Renlund was called to the Quorum of the Twelve, President Nelson handed him a copy to The Family, a Proclamation to the World and said: "This is your instruction guide."

My Primary lesson went quite well except for the fact that Colter and Amaron are really not interested in the lesson which causes a distraction. Amaron did like the picture of the Savior that I had on the cross and asked some questions about it. Andyn was a little disappointed because I didn't have a newsletter today.

The Goodman's have been called to teach the 6-7 year old Primary class. Also, Tyler Hunsaker has been called to teach the 10-11 year olds.

During singing time we sang: "My Heavenly Father Loves Me," and "I Am a Child of God," all four verses. For sharing time Brother Thompson talked to the kids about the creation and then Sister Skousen did an activity with them. Again, Amaron was not interested in anything except talking to me. He is very sweet and helped me carry my stuff to the car after the meetings were over.

James stayed at the church while I went home and broke my fast and had some lunch. I went back to the church around 1:00 for a meeting with the bishop about one of the sisters I visit teach. The bishop asked me to invite this sister to lunch but I struggled with that because she is not even speaking to me. We went from being best friends to nothing and I don't know why.

James came home with me after my meeting with the bishop. I was concerned about what he had asked me to do until I read President Uchtdorf's talk, "Three Sisters," and this quote: "What did the Savior teach? 'I say unto you Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven.' This is the Savior's way. It is the first step in breaking down the barriers that create so much anger, hatred, division, and violence in the world."

My whole attitude changed when I read this quote and I knew I could reach out to this sister and eventually invite her to lunch. I felt peace instead of turmoil.

James broke his fast and took a nap and so did I. When we got up we spent the rest of the day studying the gospel and I wrote in my journal (blog). No Super Bowl for us.

Today is my brother Harold's 68th birthday. I wished him a happy birthday and told him that I loved him.

I got a message from C. Arnett today. This is what she said: "I went to Primary today to listen to my granddaughters talk. I walked into Primary and sat down. A flood of memories and the sweet spirit I felt serving with you and Betty overcame me. I could not stop crying. Thank you Thank you for the best spiritual experience of my life! Heavenly Father is real and He loves all of His children."
What a sweet message and reminder of how much I love C. Arnett!

" Dear sisters, dear friends, if you find it difficult to hold fast to the iron rod and walk steadfastly toward salvation; if the laughter and ridicule of others who seem so confident cause you to waver; if you are troubled by unanswered questions or doctrines you don't understand yet; if you feel saddened because of disappointments, I urge you to remember Lehi's dream. Stay on the path! Never let go of the rod of iron - the word of God! and when anyone tries to make you ashamed for partaking of the love of God, ignore them."

We were going to get up this morning and go to the Gilbert temple before leaving town, but we were just too tired and we were also anxious to get home. We committed to go on Tuesday. James wants to go because Brother Coltrin told him he was going to have him officiate a session and he wants to make sure he is ready.

We said goodbye to Addy, Rowan, and Lola before we left. Ruby was still sleeping. Lola informed us before we left that she is naming her new unicorn Addy.

We stopped for gas and ice at the Cobblestone on Signal Butte before getting on the freeway. We listened to scriptures from the Book of Mormon and the Old Testament before reading from our book, "The Marshall Takes a Bride." We also read from "Life Everlasting." I am fascinated with the idea that in Paradise I can just pick up a book and know the entire contents of the book. Also, I can just think where I want to be and I will be there. Also floating is a means of transportation.

We stopped at Burger House for the best breakfast burrito which is called Tony's Special and two green chili burros. We shared the breakfast burrito and then each of us had our own green burro.

We were home before noon. After unloading and putting everything away, we started our fast for moisture with a prayer. The rest of the day I blogged, walked, worked on my Primary lesson, and took a nap. I am a little stressed about my Primary lesson on sacrifice because it talks about Cain killing Abel.

I like this quote I read in the Old Testament Student Manual by President Spencer W. Kimball: "The Sabbath day is given throughout the generations of man for a perpetual covenant It is a sign between the Lord and his children forever. It is a day in which to worship and to express our gratitude and appreciation to the Lord. It is a day on which to surrender every worldly interest and to praise the Lord humbly, for humility is the beginning of exaltation."
