"We don't discover humility by thinking less of ourselves,
we discover humility by thinking less about ourselves."
-Pres. Uchtdorf

James left early for church this morning.  He had to finish an audit he was doing with Brother Gillespie.
Sacrament meeting was really good.  LeeAnn Hunsaker gave a talk on patriarchal blessings.  LeeAnn got her patriarchal blessing recently and said it was the greatest experience of her life.
Paul Wyatt from the high council and his wife Pandora were the main speakers.   They spoke about General Conference and the importance of following the prophets.  We need to be prepared for the messages that are meant for us.
The bishop called me up in sacrament meeting to present me with my Young Women's medallion.  I was glad to receive the reward but certainly don't like getting up in front of people to be recognized.
It took me two years of serving in
Young Women's to earn this award.
During Young Women's Diana had me get up in front of the girls and gave me a gift which included this crystal container to
put my necklace in.  She is so very thoughtful.

In Sunday School we discussed the book of Hosea and in Young Women's Randa Covert gave a lesson on fasting and prayer.  I was spiritually fed by the end of the block.

The Chandler West Stake had a special conference presided over by Elder D. Todd Christofferson of the quorum of the 12 apostles.  After the conference was over he invited all the youth and children to come forward and shake his hand.  Max, Evan and Joshua were excited to be able to shake the hand of an apostle.

Sheri said it was a wonderful conference and such a great opportunity to hear an apostle of the Lord.

I made chicken tenders for lunch and brownies for dessert.  While I was making brownies, Kim was making this:
 Looks delicious!

James and I went to stake auxiliary training this evening at the stake center.  He went because he is offer the Sunday School.  We took Ruth Wilhelm and Diana Curtis with us.  It was a very good meeting.   Here are some of my notes:
President Williams: The essence of leadership is teaching.  Don't reinvent the wheel, just build upon it.  Let people know they are loved.  Be patient.
Sister Crookston: The youth say that one of the things they like about the new curriculum is how they learn from each other.  The scriptures and our prophets are our measuring sticks.  Take the role of a learner as well as a teacher.
Sister Garvin: Quoted from an article by Elder Oaks, "The Challenge to Become".  Act, think, converted by it.  3 Nephi 17:3.
Sharing, learning, living, a "mighty change of heart."
Sister Jones: Video: "Learning and Teaching in the Church."  Bear testimony to seal the truth of the doctrine.  Elder Holland says that miracles occur because of apostles, prophets, and teachers.

I got up at 6:30 to read from the Book of Mormon and Doctrine and Covenants.
James and I started the 40 day conference challenge today.  Everyday we will read a General Conference address or an address from the General Women's meeting.
We took the truck because of a gas issue and left for stake conference before 9 am.  Before conference started James and Sean Hunsaker gave Lorraine Vaught a priesthood blessing.  She has a detached retina and some heart problems.

We missed getting in the padded seats.  We sat by Rick and Rosie Lauritzen, Brother and Sister Jerry Scott, and April Allen.  Walter Denham, someone we knew in high school came up and spoke with James before conference started.  Gladys, one of my friends is his sister.

My notes on conference are in my stake conference journal.  Pres. Williams talked about the Book of Mormon challenge and shared this promise given by Pres. Marion G. Romney in the April 1960 General Conference:
"I counsel you, my beloved brothers and sisters and friends everywhere, to make reading in the Book of Mormon a few minutes each day a lifelong practice...I feel certain that if, in our homes, parents will read from the Book of Mormon prayerfully and regularly, both by themselves and with their children, the spirit of that great book will come to permeate our homes and all who dwell therein.  The spirit of contention will depart.  Parents will counsel their children in greater love and wisdom.  Children will be more responsive and submissive to that counsel.  Righteousness will increase.  Faith, hope, and charity - the pure love of Christ - will abound in our homes and lives, bringing in their wake peace, joy and happiness."

When we returned home Kim and Brian had lunch prepared for us.  We had nachos and then I made some corn dogs for whoever wanted one.  I visit with Kim, Brian, and the boys until it's time for them to leave.  After saying our goodbyes James and I go in to take a nap.

This evening we had stake auxiliary training.  James is over the Sunday School.  He rode to the meeting with Owen Peeler from our ward who is also the stake Sunday School president.  I drove my car and picked up Analee Hunsaker, Kaeli Nicoll, and Diana Curtis, our young women's presidency.

After the meeting Analee told me some sad news about Sherry Swansey.  After going through the temple two times she decided it wasn't right and that we were all being duped.  She wrote a letter to Pres. Williams, Bishop Hall, and Sean Hunsaker that she wanted no more to do with the Church.  This is some of the saddest news I have heard in a long time.  I just don't understand.

James and I watched an episode of The Walton's before going to bed.

Today was Kevin Lambson's 42nd birthday.  Happy birthday Kevin.

James and I left for stake conference around 9 o'clock this morning.  We picked up Chuck Crane on our way out.  His wife Kathy left early this morning to sing in the stake choir.  We sat in the front section of the cultural hall.  As we sat down several other people from Vernon joined us on our row.  We had the Peeler's, the Lauritzen's and the DeWitt's all on our row.  We looked around and just in our area we counted 40 people from our ward.  We also saw Randy and Debbie Tenney and their son Jarom.

If the theme for stake conference last night was families and temple work, today it was missionary work.  The first speaker was a teenage girl name Annika Robinson who was just recently baptized.  She was most impressive and very sincere in her testimony of the gospel.  She said she had to give up her relationship with her dad in order to become a member of the Church.  She said the gospel means everything to her.  ( She is a beautiful young woman and I am sure there were boys in the audience who took notice.)
After Annika spoke the next speaker was her mother who was baptized a little while after Annika.  Sister Robinson shared her testimony and then she thanked her daughter for saving their family.  It was quite touching.
Other speakers in this session: Miranda Jones, a recently returned missionary from the Leeds, England mission.  Denise and Kevin Smith of the Tempe mission presidency and our entire stake presidency, President Danny Crandall, President Ken Van Winkle, and President Steven Williams.  President Williams issued a challenge to the members of our stake to read the entire Book of Mormon before the next stake conference six months from now.  It was a great stake conference.

Before going back home we drove out to Harold & Vickie's and Dennis & Denise's.   Today is Kyle's daughter Marlee's 4th birthday and they are having a big party for her at Dennis & Denise's.(Kyle is my brother Dennis's son.)  We just stopped in to say hi and I grabbed a piece of pizza.  We would have stayed longer but we were tired and I have to come back into town this evening at 6 o'clock for stake auxiliary training.

Went home and took a nap and did a little gospel study before leaving for my stake meeting.  Kaeli Nicoll and Ann Miller rode with me.  Kaeli and I were the only ones from young women's in our ward that attended.  It was a great meeting.  I especially appreciated the training done by our high councilman and the Show Low seminary teacher, Brother Redmond.  Kaeli and I came away recharged and motivated.  We are a little worried about Natalie.

James's sister Carmen posted this on the internet and I am posting it here on my blog.  This is back before Carmen, and Rebecca.  Dawn is the baby.
