"Followers of the Prince of Peace" by Elder Ulisses Soares

We left this morning for the valley at about 7:15. We are going to Cope & Amy Reynolds' sealing at noon at the Gilbert temple. James wanted to leave early because he wants to look at a horse in Apache Junction.  We could never contact the owner. We didn't have an address so looking at a horse was a mute people. James was disappointed because the horse, a thoroughbred, was such a great price, $750. I was a little disappointed but honestly, I don't like bay colored horses.

Our first stop was Deseret Book where we each got some new garments. I got a couple of new books and James got a new tie.

The tie is a prettier color than shown here.

It was still too early to go to the temple and we wanted a snack. I suggested Chik-fila. I got three strips with Polynesian sauce and James got 5 nuggets with honey mustard sauce. Mine was better. James agreed.

When we got to the temple James went in to the men's dressing room and I was waiting in the front waiting area. The first person I saw was Cope Reynolds. He came over and shook my hand.  We eventually found our way to the third floor where the sealing rooms are. In the huge waiting room there were several members of our ward waiting for the sealing.

I visited with Kerri and Catherine Halcomb, Cheryl Sedig and Janna Grombach. Oh yes, before we went in to the waiting room we were directed to a corner of the room where we took our shoes off and put on our temple shoes. Most people had socks on.

I also visited with Amy's daughter, Megan. I knew she was Amy's daughter because I have seen photos online and also, she looks just like Amy's daughter Claire. She came all of the way from Washington state to be with her mom.

Brother Allen was the sealer. He spoke about temple covenants and blessings. Amy had her hair done straight and she looked beautiful although her veil kept falling off. She was using the band instead of the comb and I told her she should get the comb. I guess her daughter Megan told her the same thing.

These are the people who attended from our ward:
Rick & Rosie Lauritzen, Terry & Barbara Tignor,, Alana Barbara's granddaughter, James & I, Catherine & Kerri Halcomb, Ralph & Cheryl Sedig, Janna & Willy Grombach, the Ellsworth's, Bishop & Alicia Hunsaker, Lynda & John Finnell, and John & Linda Price.
There were 7 other people who were family besides Megan and her husband.

Cope said later on Facebook when they walked in the room and he saw how many people were there he thought they were in the wrong room. He said then he looked at the faces and recognized that they were friends and family and he was filled with gratitude.

After the temple we went over to Lois & Dawn's at Dawn's request.
Dawn was busy on a conference call most of the time we were there but we had a nice visit with James's mom. They wanted me to come over because they had birthday gifts for me.

A tote bag, matching purse, small box with earrings and a sunflower
diamond painting. Also a $50 Amazon card.

Dawn had made us a treat. They are called Pineapple Coconut Chess bars and they are delicious. We took some with us. We had to leave around 1:30 to make it back to Serrano's in Chandler. We both changed our clothes before we left.

When we arrived at Serrano's Adam was already there. He said they were setting up our room for us. We waited at least 15 minutes for them to get the room ready. To my surprise they had a long table setup for 20 people in the main dining area. I thought we were getting a private room. There was another birthday party for another grandma and she got the private room. Oh well, no biggie. I loved our waitress and the guy who put the cake Kim made in the refrigerator in the back and then brought us a big knife to cut the cake with. Here are some photos:

It's official. I'm old and I look it too.

Those who were at my party:
James, Stacy, Paul, Adam, Jared Ammon, Dallin, Michael, Joshua, Kim, Brian, Joe, Sheri, Ian, Alex, Ben, Evan. Max was not feeling well so he didn't come. Trina brought Ruby and Lola. Addy and Darrel both had to work and Rowan didn't make it back from the lake in time. I think Rowan might be in trouble because he had Trina's car and was supposed to be back before the party.

Let's just say I got lots of nice gifts and Sheri insisted on putting everything on her credit card and then people were going to pay her back. She also paid for our dinner. My kids really are the best. We missed having Jared's family here. Jared and Kacey both sent happy birthday wishes.

We could not have asked for better weather today. It was overcast and breezy with the temperature a mere 90 degrees, something that is pretty much unheard of in the Valley in August. Yesterday it was sunny and 116. We were so grateful.

After the party was over we spoke with JA and told him we would pick him up in a few minutes. He's going back with us. JA was our DJ on the way home. He put his phone on the Jim Reeves station on Spotify because he knows that's the kind of music grandpa likes. We heard artists that were famous in the 50's and 60's, including Neil Sedaka, Hank Williams and Buck Owens. It was fun.

It's always nice to be home. It seems funny when we walk through the garage and there is a big empty space where my car would normally be.

I had a wonderful birthday!!

"Jesus Christ is Relief" by Sister Camille N. Johnson

I got a message from FamilySearch this morning that an endowment had been done for Lila Mae Parker, one of my relatives. This is one of the names I gave Sheri so I guess she went to the temple this morning. I texted and thanked her.

James is having a difficult time communicating with Jay. We finally figured out that Jay's texts are not coming through to James's phone. So now he texts me. He sent me this:

Jared says this is what the car was doing and it
caused him to land in the ditch. This accident
was not his fault. Something is wrong with my car.

Our main concern today was to get the car towed to a body shop so they can assess the damage and report it to the insurance company.

The towing company towed it to the wrong body shop. There are several Caliber Collision body shops and they towed it to one way over on the other side of Chandler. James called and complained and said when he started to give the address to the driver he cut James off and said, "I know where it is." We got a $36 refund.

Here at home I had a cooking day. I had food in the frig that needed to be cooked. I thought JA (Jay) was going to be here this week so I had all of this food. Today I made pork chops in the crockpot, baked potatoes and chicken tacos with the roasted chicken I bought the other day.

James cleaned up the scraps and tools off the deck and worked on the yard. His yardwork kept getting interrupted with rain.

James and I finished our book, "Chiara's Choice," while walking this evening.

People in California are getting ready for Hurricane Hillary to hit. It's the first tropical storm to hit southern California. Arizona and Nevada are supposed to get a substantial amount of rain as a result of the storm.

humming birds. He makes sure all of our
critters are fed.

My favorite interior view of our home.

I need to remember this.

"One in Christ" by Elder D. Todd Christofferson

Michelle Craig was on Inklings with Emily and Tana. The conference address was Elder Uchtdorf's "Jesus Christ is the Strength of Parents." Here are some notes:
M: Everyone who is here in this life, when they could see clearly, chose to follow Jesus Christ.
E: We can have a front row seat to God's miracles.
M: By small and simple things great things are brought to pass. Back to school is a good reset time. Consistency in small and simple things. That will bring power.
T: In a talk David A. Bednar gave in 2009 he talked about creating a masterpiece one stroke at a time. That's what we are doing with our families as we consistently have family prayer and scripture study.
M: We did it. We were consistent. I love dinner table conversations. We asked our children: "How did you see the hand of the Lord in your life today."?
T: I like to take the personalized approach with my children. While they are getting ready for school I have a gospel conversation with each of my kids. It is a unity moment. There is not one way to do it.
E: Genesis 28:15 - The five finger promise: 1.) I am with you 2.) I will protect you 3.) I will bring you home again 4.) I will not leave you until 5.) I have done everything I promised you.
E: David Butler - God handed you to me as a baby. Today as you leave for your mission I feel like I am handing you back to God.
M: Picked a clump of blackberries on a vine. Each one matures at it's own rate as it is connected to the vine. We are the same way as we are connected to the true vine. Create conditions for grown. Being connected to the true vine brings life.

I loved this quote from the talk by Elder Uchtdorf:
"Patiently allow the rising generation to make inspired choices, and let God work His miracles. The result will be more beautiful and more stunning and more joyful than anything you could accompish by yourself."

This question from my "Come Follow Me" study: How do I bring Jesus Christ into my relationships?

I have been using Bible Hub as I read Romans. I bring up the King James Version and compare it with the New Living Translation.
Here is the NLT for Romans 11:32:
For God has imprisoned everyone in disobedience so he could have mercy on everyone.

I put on a roast and veggies for dinner. When I planned it I thought Jared Ammon would be back, but that didn't happen.

James worked on the backyard today but had to quit when it started raining. He told me about Hurricane Hillary which is going to hit California and extend into Nevada and Arizona. It probably won't be here until sometime Sunday. It's supposed to bring several inches of rain. He doesn't want to plant the grass seed until it passes because he says it will just wash away.

We thought about ordering sod. James figured it would cost around $7,000 as opposed to $400 for grass seed. We already spent $7,000 on the new deck and really can't afford to spend another $7,000. We are still trying to finished the stable too.

James washed the bee suit he borrowed from Joshua Harris, Pierce's son-in-law. The gloves have gunk all over them and the bee suit has lots of stains. I suggest we order them a new one and keep this one. He thought it would cost $200. I looked on Amazon and ordered one for $40.

I finished my "Delightful Doors and Windows" puzzle. It was harder than most but very rewarding when it was finished.

Hardworking James getting ready to plant grass.

You go girl!
