Up at 2:18. My right arm is hurting this morning. I guess I must have laid on it the wrong way.

Last night just as we were going to bed it started raining harder than I have ever heard. This morning when I went outside there was a patch of "snow" on the ground. It was probably melted hail and that's what we heard last night, hail instead of rain.

The first "snow" of the season.

Today would have been my Mom's 95th birthday. I wanted to do something with my brothers to celebrate so this is what I came up with and everyone agreed.

We met at Grumpy Jake's BBQ at 11:00 for lunch. I brought my Mom's memory book for everyone should look at. Here is how the orders went: Vickie had the Chef's salad, Harold had the pulled pork sandwich with fries and so did Denise but she also had coleslaw. Dennis had the ribs and a salad, James the cod and I had the chicken cranberry walnut salad. After lunch we headed for the Lakeside Cemetery where Mom is buried. Harold & Vickie came prepared. Harold swept off the grave and Vickie added some red and pink silk flowers.

Mom's grave

While we were at the cemetery I told my experience of being sealed to Mom & Dad in the temple and how all of my feelings of animosity towards Dad just melted away because of the love I felt. This time I also mentioned how Brother Gililland said that people can change and progress while in the Spirit world, which is what I hope happened to my Dad.

Next we went to the covered bridge at Woodland Lake Park. We all have pictures we took with Mom here years ago and I thought it would be fun to come back and take some of us now.

After reminiscing about our time spent here with Mom and visiting for awhile we decided to try out the new ice cream parlor in Pinetop called Slades.

James and I both had butter pecan.

After our ice cream we said our goodbyes and we were all grateful that we spent the day together in memory of Mom.

On the way home James went by and checked on Matt Hipps's job and then we stopped at Walmart. I got the ingredients I need to make Geno Woods's birthday cake this week. He wants chocolate cake with chocolate frosting. We also bought a huge bouquet of mums. I call them my ASU mums. I can't find my picture of them so I'm going to have to take a picture tomorrow, it's too dark tonight and post them tomorrow.

I was super tired when I got home so I laid down for a nap on the bedroom recliner and soon I found myself in cat prison. Sheri baked her sourdough bread today. It smelled delicious.

I give my lesson in Relief Society tomorrow. Tonight I finished my "Spiritually Defining Memories" notebooks to give to the sisters.

For dinner I made smash burgers with grilled onions.

James and I were in bed by 9:30.

Up at 2:18, oh happy day! Thyroid pill, check on beans in the crockpot which have been cooking all night. Let the cook a little longer. Undo puzzle, Perk, Tender Mercies journal, prayer, blog, walk, blackberries, salted caramel shake, now my turkey link. I've been up four hours and it's only 6:30. I put the beans in the frig to 'marinate.'

Sheri and Ian are coming today. We got some rain this morning. James had to come in from working on the deck. I was working in the house and listening to "Fishers of Men." At 11:03 the electricity went off because of the hard rain, I suppose.  I could think of nothing better to do so I sat down on my recliner. Of course Tom joined me and I was in 'cat prison.' The electricity was only off for about an hour, thank goodness. I put sheets on their bed and made sure Darrel & Trina's room was ready as well as Sheri & Ian's.

James's feet are really bothering him but he continues to work on the deck.

When Ian and Sheri got her with Oliver and Ziggie Tom could hear them bark. He was on our bed. His ears perked up but he didn't move. He knows he is safe in the bedroom.

Sheri gave Ian instructions on what to do with the sourdough bread she was making while she and I went to Walmart. The ominous black clouds that were over Show Low dissipated before we got there so we did not get rained on.

Walmart is busy, as it usually is. Sheri and I went our separate ways. I bought a 2 inch notebook and some notebook dividers to put the 44 talks in that President Nelson has given since becoming the Prophet. I also bought some laminating paper because James wants me to laminate his new temple recommend. I bought some cream cheese for the frosting for Chelsea MacArthur's birthday cake. I also bought a couple of steaks, some chicken, turkey links, and a pound of hamburger. Sheri finishes before I do and goes out to the car. I text her to come back in and bag for me while I check out, which she did.

James had the mixed burro that Sheri & Ian brought him from Burger House for dinner. Ian said that Ollie cried for Sheri the entire time we were gone. He really is a mama's boy. For all of my cleaning and getting things ready upstairs, Sheri and Ian are staying downstairs. Oh well, at least I have a clean house ready for company.

"Fishers of Men"

I was up at 2:55 this morning. Perk and prayer are first on my agenda.

I went to the post office today and received the cards I ordered from Salt & Hart. They are cards with quotes by President Nelson and the invitations and promises associated with the quotes. I love them!

I was invited to lunch today by my friend Pat Tedder. She said she wanted to buy my lunch and asked me where I wanted to go. I said Persnikkity's. She asked if she should invite Janna and I told her that was up to her. She did invite Janna and Janna was our driver.

We got to Persnikkity's before the lunch rush and were able to sit in the "quiet" room. I ordered my favorite, the sesame chicken salad without the wontons. It is delicious! Janna ordered avocado toast and Pat had a chicken salad sandwich on a croissant.

Pat had lemonade to drink and Janna had
Prickly Pear cactus. I had water.

Somehow we got to talking about Pat and I growing up in Show Low and one of them asked if I had ever been to the Show Low Museum. I told them, no, I hadn't. They said I needed to go and ask if today would be a good time. I agreed that it would. Pat said her brother Pete Whipple was volunteering their today.

Pete was sitting at the front desk when we walked in and was happy to see us. I went to school with Pete and also remember him as a friend of Rita's when I still lived in the valley and came up to visit.

He welcomed us and said there were 17 rooms in the museum and that the miniature train was running today. The train room was our first room to visit. A miniature Winslow and McNary were set up for the train to travel around. I have always loved train sets and I really enjoyed watching the train travel around the track.

The Shell gas station located on the corner of
Deuce of Clubs and White Mountain Blvd.
Owned first by Bill Huso and then by
Aunt Gene and Uncle Clair Tenney

This was when Nick's was across the street from
our store King's Market. There were no good pictures of our store.
My Mom & Dad remodeled after owning it for awhile and renamed
it Double M Market (Marlin Maxwell).

My friend Geneice Jennings uncle owned
Bill's Bar and Geneice lived there with him.

My mom and I would spend hours in Eb's store which was filled with antiques, etc. What a fun place to "shop." Eb Lewis was also
my bishop for awhile when I lived in Show Low as a teenager.

The Nikolaus's were in my ward. I played ball with Lamar's daughter Lorraine and Elizabeth Nikolaus was the Relief Society president.
They were a very nice family.

Monte was born in the Josephine Goldwater hospital.

The old Ross's Cafe
I dated Ross's son, Kay Adams.

I watched many a movie at the Show Low theater in
downtown Show Low. James and I went to the drive-in a
few times.

Hal Butler's sons, Gary and Greg worked in our store.
His youngest son was David. My mom said Peggy Butler
Hal's wife, was our very best customer.

This is my friend Pat Whipple Tedder.

The Adams' Family
I was good friends with Beverly Welch Adams.

Georgia Adams was Chet's sister. She married
Dutch Kay, my dad's best friend. They had a daughter
my age, Nora Jean.

My cousin Randy Tenney who looks like a teenager here
was the mayor of Show Low.

when I was a teenager.

Dennie Thompson's son Leon worked in our store.
Dennie took photos at our wedding reception.

Gary worked in our store. He was a couple of years older then me. He dated my best friend Polly Brookbank.
He was chief of police after I was married and gone.

My grandparents owned the Paint Pony
much, much later.

Eb's brother Lamel Lewis now has a
"junk" place in Linden

We lost our cabin in Pinedale in this fire.

Mohammed Ali trained in Show Low in the 80's.
My grandparents, Arlee & Verdie Maxwell
owned the Maxwell House where he stayed.
They are standing in the upper left-hand picture.

I'm glad I went to the museum. It was a first and I really enjoyed it.

James fixed my Kitchen-Aid mixer this afternoon.  A pen came out and he was able to put it back in.

I changed the sheets on our bed. I always love having clean sheets.
I also put Navy beans in the crockpot tonight for James. They cook all night and by morning they are soft and yummy.

I loved the weather and blue sky and beautiful white clouds.

Up at 3:26. James and I left for the temple at 8 a.m.

The temple session was quite full. I met Sue Hubble and we sat by my friend from high school again, January Smith Stratton . Charlie Patterson, another friend from high school was also in the session and a friend we worked with in the temple, Sister Humphrey.

After the session James and I met Sue Hubble at Eva's Mexican food restaurant. Sue and I both love their chili relleno and that is what we ordered. James loves their chicken enchiladas with green sauce and refried beans and that's what he ordered. I interviewed Sue about her family. Her brother, David, who is 72 is riding his motorcycle to Sue's from Wisconsin. He is to arrive sometime today and then he and Sue are going to Silver City, New Mexico to see Sue's other sisters. Her sister Jeanette's husband is having surgery and Sue and David are going to stay with Sandra, Sue's twin who is mentally handicapped.

Sue gave me a little of her family's background. Sue's dad died when she was 9. Her mom bought a farm in Wisconsin and moved their with her five small children. Sue's mom didn't drive so they rode on the Amtrak train. Sue has a degree in interior design and sewing. She moved back to New Mexico to work in her brother Allen's trading post. She met her husband John in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico and they moved to Keams Canyon to run a trading post for the Kay family who now own Kay's Lumber. I remember Johnny Kay in high school. His family had the drug store in Snowflake in the building where Eva's is now located. It was there when my mom went to school in Snowflake. She and Veleda went there to get chili dogs for lunch when they were in high school. Sue has two children Scott and Tabitha. Tabitha passed away from a brain tumor a couple of years ago. She had two girls, Kailee and Sky. They live in Show Low with their dad but they stay with Sue on the weekends so they can go to church with her. Kailee was baptized in May.

We got some rain today, but now much. Jared Ammon & Ellie left for home before we got back from Snowflake, but they took a selfie before they left.
