Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son

'Highly Favored Of The Lord'
Elder Gary E. Stevenson
Of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles
"Now, what do we hear in the gospel which we have received? A voice of gladness! A voice of mercy from heaven; and a voice of truth out of the earth; glad tidings for the dead; a voice of gladness for the living and the dead; glad tidings of great joy. . . .
". . . Shall we not go on in so great a cause? Go forward and not backward. Courage. . . . and on, on to the victory! Let your hearts rejoice, and be exceedingly glad. Let the earth break forth into singing."
Brothers and sisters, I believe that one day, each of you will look back at the canceled events, the sadness, the disappointments, and the loneliness attendant to the challenging times we are passing through to see them overshadowed by choice blessings and increased faith and testimonies. I believe that in this life, and in the life to come, your afflictions, your Ammonihah, your Liberty Jail, will be consecrated for your gain. I pray that, along with Nephi, we can acknowledge the afflictions in the course of our days while at the same time recognizing that we are high favored of the Lord.

Restoration Proclamation
P4 S4
Others came as well, including Elijah, who restored the authority to join families together forever in eternal relationships that transcend death.

The Living Christ
P2 S6
He entreated all to follow His example.

My sciatic nerve is really bothering me this morning. I took some meds and laid down for about two hours and felt better.

Stacy texted a little after noon and said she would be leaving in 10 minutes. She got here somewhere between 4:30 and 5. She is by herself this time. A few years ago Stacy never would have ventured out on her own. I guess she just needed to get away. She said the boys were doing a Smash tournament in her family room and she felt "crowded." After getting settled in and taking her suitcase downstairs, she is ready to start her puzzle. She brought Starry Night by Van Gogh. The flower arrangement and the tray on the coffee table are set on the high entry table where my Easter basket display is. Now she's ready for puzzle and TV time. I'm glad she feels so at home here.

Sorry Stacy but the first order of business on the TV is the latest Hallmark movie, "Don't Go Breakin' My Heart" starring Ryan Pavey and Italia Ricci.  Italia's character runs a breakup boot camp and of course Ryan is a prime candidate to attend because his girlfriend has just broken up with him. Of course as they get to know each other, they begin falling in love. And then Ryan's character does something behind Miranda's back and she drops him. He proves himself by writing a wonderful review of the boot camp in his companies magazine and they get back together. It's a typical Hallmark movie and so predictable, but I still like it. Italia Ricci is one of my favorite female characters.

Stacy started us on a show that's on Prime video called, "Death in Paradise." It's a murder mystery that she has been watching and it's a show that Tara's husband Jeff worked on. We watched one episode and liked it, although I'm not a huge fan of murder mysteries.

Uncle Preston is Paul's nephew.
John and Shelley's son.

Brandon Garvin is the guy who happened to be in
Vernon when James was pouring our back sidewalk
and is a friend of J. Wilhelm's. Brandon brought
himself and his son and concrete tools and because
of him and John W. the concrete was saved.

Date night.

Charlie's first Primary activity. The kids sang one of her favorite
songs, "I Am A Child of God." She sang right along with them.

'Let Patience Have Her Perfect Work, and Count It All Joy'
Elder Jeremy R. Jaggi
Of the Seventy
I witness of the redeeming, sanctifying, humbling, and joyous power of the Savior Jesus Christ. I witness that when we pray to our Heavenly father in the name of Jesus, He will answer us. I witness that as we hear, hearken, and heed the voice of the Lord and His living prophet, President Russell M. Nelson, we can "let patience have her perfect work" and "count it all joy." In the name of Jesus Christ, amen.

Restoration Proclamation
P4 S3
Three of the original twelve Apostles - Peter, James, and John - restored the apostleship and keys of priesthood authority.

The Living Christ
P2 S5
His gospel was a message of peace and goodwill.

I'm getting closer to my indexing goal of 5,000 names for March but James has got me beat even though he doesn't have a computer. He uses mine. He will probably get 6,000 names. He is very competitive!

I did not get up until after 7 this morning because of my sciatic pain. I am pretty miserable, especially in the mornings. I actually had pain all day. My Tramadol and aspirin aren't helping as much as they were so I've added 600 mg of Ibruprofen. This Ibruprofen prescription is one Dr. Shah gave me when he put in my implant.

We had beef pot pies for lunch and then left to do errands and go to my weekly follow-up appointment at Barnet-Delaney-Perkins. We stopped at the post office and picked up Addy's Book of Mormon and Seth's birthday card from Gail. We mailed Aunt Gene's birthday card. Her 93rd birthday is on Sunday. I also had Ginger's birthday card and Easter basket to take by after we go to town.

I had to wait almost an hour at B-D-P for them to call me back. Dr. Palmer said I need to remember to put in eye drops a couple of times a day otherwise everything looked good. They want to see me back in six months so I made an appointment before leaving. James got lots of steps walking around the parking lot.

We went to Walmart to pick up my prescriptions and do some light shopping. Afterwards we stopped at Panda for chow mein bowls. James had his with steak and shrimp and I got orange chicken in mine. James's was healthier and much better tasting too.

We also went to Dairy Queen for cherry Dilly Bars and fudgsicles, got gas and then went by Ginger's to drop off her basket. She wasn't home but we left the basket with her husband. She texted me later to thank me for everything. She said she was excited about the Easter booklet and was going to read it to the boys. I am assuming she means the boys that are staying with her.

When we got home I took an hour nap and then walked and listened to conference talks. I finished my audio book, "Forever, Phoebe" and started a new one, "Georgana's Secret." James and I watched an old Megan Marhkle movie, "When Sparks Fly" and then while I finished walking he watched a couple of episodes of a British show, "The English Game" on Netflix.

Listened to Dave and Emily on "Don't Miss This" earlier today.

President Henry B. Eyring
Second Counselor in the First Presidency
The Lord explained:
"Ye cannot behold with your natural eyes, for the present time, the design of your God concerning those things which shall come hereafter, and the glory which shall follow . . . much tribulation.
"For after much tribulation come the blessings."
The greatest blessing that will come when we prove ourselves faithful to our covenants during our trials will be a change in our natures. By our choosing to keep our covenants, the power of Jesus Christ and the blessings of His Atonement can work in us. Our hearts can be softened to love, to forgive, and to invite others to come unto the Savior. Our confidence in the Lord increases. Our fears decrease.

Restoration Proclamation
P4 S2
The resurrected John the Baptist restored the authority to baptize by immersion for the remission of sins.

The Living Christ
P2 S4
He "went about doing good" (Acts 10:38), yet was despised for it.

As I looked out our bedroom window this morning I noticed the sun coming up behind Mt. Montosa. The mountain still had snow on it and it looked beautiful.

Taken from our deck

James had passed me up on indexing. He tells me he wants to do 100 names a day but right now he is already at 4,800 names for March. That's a few more than 100 names a day. I will be happy to get my 5,000 by the end of the month.

Jean Howard passed away this morning. Her daughter Deana told me that Tom came to get her. What a wonderful thing. I have mixed emotions about her passing. We have so many memories together that I am really going to miss her. When they had their home in Chandler and I was staying at Cathi and Terry's and we were in the valley at the same time, I would call her and pick her up for lunch. We would go to the "First Watch" restaurant off Chandler Heights and Alma School, just down from where Jean's house was. Her house was just south of the Pleasant building where we used to attend when the Del Rio building was being remodeled. Jean introduced me to First Watch.  Jean loved their fresh fruit. I love their lemon ricotta pancakes. One time Jean's granddaughter, Tara and her young daughter joined us. We went there several times.

When Jean was in Vernon we would go to lunch in Show Low or Lakeside. Her favorites were Mountain Thai and Native. At Mountain Thai she would order soup with rice noodles and shrimp. I would order regular noodles and chicken in my soup. We always had to have a bottle of sweet chili on our table so we could add some to our soup.

When we went to Native, Miracle was our waitress. She told us the story of how she got her name. Her mom said she didn't know she was pregnant and when Miracle was born it was a miracle. Jean and I liked Miracle and developed a friendship with her.
At Native we would both order the chicken, walnut, apple salad and sometimes we would get a small side of wings.

Once we went to Persnikkity's and once to Darby', and Licano's. Jean wasn't a fan of any of these places. At Licano's she ordered a shrimp taco and she said the shrimp was canned shrimp. We never went there again.

Jean was kind and giving and she loved to talk about her life. She told me about her young 2 year old son, years ago, being accidentally shot by his brother and killed. In later years after having a son, Dustin, this older son turned to drinking to find solace. He later committed suicide so Tom and Jean took Dustin and raised him.

Jean had a daughter named Kathy before she married Tom. Kathy lives in Illinois where Jean and Tom met. She has a daughter who is a hospital administrator. Jean was very proud of that.

Tom and Jean have two other children,  Deana and Steven. Steven's two daughters, Tara and Cassie, were also raised by Jean and Tom. Tom and Jean were very good people and would give you the shirt off their backs. They gave us Luna.

Jean had lots of health problems. She and Deana and some of the kids, were in a horrific car accident coming back from a trip to Disneyland. They were on the road between Pine and Payson which is very narrow and curvy. A semi-truck ran into them and knocked them off the side of a small canyon. Jean broke her back and had multiple surgeries. Her body was full of metal. Because of this, she was always cold. One year for Christmas I gave her an electric blanket and she said it was the best gift she had ever received.

Jean was also hit by a car backing up in a parking lot, adding to her pain and suffering. I knew she was always in pain, but she very seldom complained to me about it.

Recently she complained of stomach pains. The doctors didn't quite know what to do but gave her some pills for pain. Because of this pain she ate very little and soon would not eat anything. None of her favorite foods appealed to her anymore. When I went to see her on the 15th of March she was skin and bones and too weak to get out of bed without help. March 22nd was Jean's 79th birthday. She died three days later on March 25th. I will miss my dear, sweet friend, but I know she is with Tom and free of pain and that I will see her again someday.
