"Lovest Thou Me More Than These"
President M. Russell Ballard
Acting President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles
When we love and follow Him, we have faith in Him. We repent. We follow His example and are baptized and receive the Holy Ghost. We endure to the end and stay on the covenant path. We forgive family members and neighbors by letting go of grudges we may be holding. We earnestly strive to keep God's commandments. We strive to be obedient. We make and keep covenants. We honor our fathers and mothers. We set aside negative worldly influence. We prepare ourselves for His Second Coming.
Prayer 13

I got up around six and went in to frost Brother Allen's cake. I made a batch of Texas sheetcake frosting and piled the three small layers on top of each other.  I thought they looked even but when James came in he said they were leaning. I looked at the cake from his angle and he was right. I straightened it the best that I could although it was not perfect. We left for the church a little before 8. The Allen's were already there. James gave Steve his cake and Steve, or Brother Allen, seemed grateful. We looked around the church and all we could find to do was empty a small amount of garbage in the large kitchen container. We said goodbye to the Allen's and we were on our way. Brother Allen took the cake carrier with the cake in it. Sister Allen seemed grateful because she said now she would not have to make a birthday cake.

On the way to the Grapp's to deliver Tildy's gifts we stopped at the Halcomb's to pick up a dog carrier for a small dog. Cammy wants to borrow the carrier. It sounds like maybe Tildy got a dog for her birthday.

Kerri went out and got the carrier out of the storage unit. I did not know she was home and it was great to see her looking and feeling so good after her kidney transplant.

When we got to the Grapp's Benson already had the gate open for us and Leland was standing with him. Benson gave me a hug before I went in the house. Leland was so excited and wanted to carry the cakes, which he did. Leland is three. Everyone was home, including Brother Grapp. Tildy was called in and the other children were so excited for her to open her gift. I felt bad that it wasn't more exciting. When everything was open, including the birthday card, Malea, the 17 month old, took the tube of lotion and went over to her dad. I think she wanted him to open it for her. Tildy seemed grateful and happy for her gifts. She had been holding her new little Australian shepherd in her arms when we first walked in. When she opened her gifts she gave the dog, which had kissed her on the lips, to her sister Liana. Here are the pictures I got:

Tildy reading her card and Liana holding the puppy

The puppy's name is Mira for miracle. I asked Tildy if that was because it was a miracle that she got her and she said yes.
We had a nice visit with the family but the entire time I was sitting there I kept thinking how they no longer attend our ward. The girls always looked like they had stepped out of a beauty shop with their hair done in the cutest styles. Benson was always so handsome with his suit. And the two young ones so adorable. Later, on the way home I asked Cammy to send me a picture of them all "done up" for Sunday. She said she would.

Benson came over and sat by me. He is 11 but will be 12 on Valentine's day. He said he was ordained a Deacon and had been passing the sacrament. He said he had also been to the temple to do baptisms. He and Liana and a friend from the valley were going this afternoon again. That's why Cammy wanted the dog carrier. The entire family would go, including the dog. They do everything together. Benson also asked me about how I made the baby cakes and Tildy's cake. He is the most inquisitive child I have ever met.

After saying our goodbyes Benson followed us outside to open the gate and close it for us. James and I are so sad because we miss the Grapp family so much and because we don't know why they are going to church in Concho instead of Vernon.

We headed for town. It's a sun shiny day but the temperature is on 21 degrees.

In town we went to Walmart, Circle K for gas and a carwash, Taco Bell for sustenance, and Tractor Supply for Luna's feed. It didn't take long and we were on our way home.

I got a text from Sister Allen giving the cake I made a two thumbs up. This is a picture of Steve, Brother Allen celebrating his birthday.

Steve looks good for 61

I took a nap on the recliner in the family room when I got home. James came over and laid down with his head in my lap. I finished watching "The Winter Palace" starring Danica McKellar. I also cleaned the kitchen, walked and blogged. James worked on the new garage door opener but couldn't make it work so he finally gave up and headed for Anthony's to take him his cake. Before he gets home I get a call from Brother Crane. Kerri Halcomb has been in an accident. He said he called me because he couldn't get in touch with Tamara.  This is what Chuck said: "Kerri has been in an accident. There are two fatalities. (My heart drops and I gasp.) Chuck says, but Kerri seems to be okay. Thank goodness. I call James and tell him. He had been at the Dollar Store and the woman who waited on him said there had been a bad accident and she didn't know how anyone could have survived. I told him, "That was Kerri's accident but she's okay. Two others are dead. I also told Tamara.

I call Catherine, Kerri's mom and ask if she is okay and if she wants me to come over. She said she was okay and that Brother DeWitt had gone to get Kerri. After I hung up, Kerri called me. She told me what happened: She was heading out of Show Low when she came to a turn out on the side of the road where a father and son had been selling t-shirts. Usually it's tamales at this stop but today it was t-shirts. Kerri said the car pulled out in front of her and she t-boned it. She said her airbag went off and saved her life. Both men lost their lives. I am not sure which one was driving. The sun is terrible that time of day and James said maybe the driver was blinded. I said that could be true but if so, he should not have pulled out into the highway where people are going at least 65 m.p.h.
Kerri needed to get the number assigned to the accident and find out where her truck was being towed. Collin was there to take her home. What a horrible thing to happen. I am grateful that Kerri is safe.

James invited me to watch a movie with him this evening. I have a Hallmark one taped but he wanted to watch "Amazing Grace" on DVD. It is an incredible story of William Wilburforce and his fight to stop slavery in England. The sound was not good and I could not find close captioning. It was still very enjoyable.
