The announcement of each new temple is a source of great joy and a reason to give thanks to the Lord. However, our primary focus should be on the covenants and ordinances that can change our hearts and deepen our devotion to the Savior and not simply on the location or beauty of the building.
The fundamental obligations that rest upon us as members of the Lord's restored Church are (1) to "Hear Him!" and have our own hearts changed through covenants and ordinances and (2) to fulfill joyfully the divinely appointed responsibility to offer temple blessings to the entire human family on both sides of the veil. With the Lord's direction and help, indeed we will fulfill these sacred duties.
Rowan and Addy both got themselves up at 6:15 so I did not have to wake them. Addy has bad allergies and decided not to go to school. James went woke Lola and Ruby at 6:40. Addy fixed Lola's hair and helped her get her snack while I filled her pink water bottle and put the purple lid on it as I was instructed. Addy came with me and we took Lola to the bus stop on Parc Joule and Point Twenty-Two. She looks so little climbing up on that big bus! Her friend Ivy ride the bus too and she is even smaller than Lola. Of course they have to wear a mask.
After getting Lola on the bus we went back home. At about 7:45 I took Ruby to school. I turned on one of the back streets from the school, Simone and just a little ways from the school I let Ruby off and she rode her skateboard the rest of the way. Ruby is in sixth grade and Lola is in first. This afternoon I will pick Ruby up at 2:50 and then get Lola at the bus stop right afterwards.
James and I had lunch with Ben today at Olive Garden. We picked him up at his house around 11:00. We invited Max and Evan to go with us but Max was stressed about homework and Evan was in his room doing something. It was fun to be with Ben. He always seems so happy and his smile is contagious. We walked into Olive Garden without any masks on and no one said anything. Our waitresses name was Grace and she was very attentive. Ben and I had soup, salad and breadsticks and James had salmon and broccoli. Ben had the chicken and gnocchi soup with lots of breadsticks. I started out with the Zuppa Toscana and also had some Pasta e Fagioli which I couldn't finish and had to take home with a couple of breadsticks. Ben absolutely did not want any dessert so after our lunch we left. Ben is going to work for UPS when they get back from the cabin. They are coming up to the cabin the weekend of General Conference. They are hiring drivers to drive their own cars and paying them $35 an hour. He wants to work and save enough money to go to school at BYU-Idaho starting in January. He wants to spend Christmas at home this year and he won't start working until after they come to the cabin the first week in October.
I offered to get Ben some dessert but he declined. He lost 50 lbs. while on his mission and I don't think he wants to gain it back.
After we said our goodbyes to Ben we dropped my box of books off at the UPS Store and then I took James home and then went to do some shopping at Walmart. I was looking for a 12 x 12 photo album for Sister Barton in our ward. They had three different styles and I took pictures and sent them to my friend Kerri who is shopping for Sister Barton. Now she is saying that she is using page protectors for regular 8 1/2 x 11 notebook pages but she doesn't want just a regular notebook she wants one that looks like a journal or a photo album. I found one on Amazon and sent it to Kerri and told her to also look on Etsy or Pioneer photo albums. She should be able to find something.
At 2:50 I picked up Ruby from school. He friend Chloe whose parents are gone on the Lake Powell trip too, was waiting for her grandpa and he was late. She came down and waited with us until he came. Chloe's little sister is Ivy, one of Lola's best friends and we saw Chloe and her grandpa at Lola's bus stop picking up Ivy.
Rowan rides the bus home from school and of course Addy was already home. For dinner this evening we had chicken skewers and mini chicken potstickers, all from Costco.
Lola and Ruby both took showers. Lola goes to bed at 9 and the rest of the kids at 10 on a school night. We had "Come Follow Me" and family prayer together. James said Rowan was in charge of family prayer so he called on Ruby. Lola read a story to me and I read one to her before she went to bed. She also brushed her teeth with her bubble gum toothpaste.
Ruby has to do a report for school on an animal. She couldn't decide whether to do a black panther or an albino panther but when she came home from school today she said someone else was doing a panther so she had to choose another animal. She chose a dingo dog which lives in Australia and southwest Asia.
After school Ruby had dance lessons. After her lessons and before Addy and Rowan's guitar lessons we had dinner. After Addy and Rowan returned from their guitar lessons, we had scriptures and family prayer.
Ben is now 20 and will be 21 and James
turned 20 a few days ago.
