Guayaquil, Ecuador
58th operating temple

Mosiah 2:29-41
King Benjamin exhorts his people to be obedient to God.
1. What warnings did King Benjamin give his people? (see verses 32-33, 36-38.)
2. How might we know if we are beginning to follow the wrong spirit?  Why is it important to recognize this early?
* Elder David A. Bednar: "We should endeavor to discern when we withdraw ourselves from the Spirit of the Lord.  If something we think, see, hear, or do distances us from the Holy Ghost, then we should stop thinking, seeing, hearing, or doing that thing. If that which is intended to entertain, for example, alienates us from the Holy Spirit, then certainly that type of entertainment is not for us.  Because the Spirit cannot abide that which is vulgar, crude, or immodest, then clearly such things are not for us."
3. According to verse 38 what consequences come to those who die in their sins?
4. What did King Benjamin want his people to consider and remember? (verses 40-41.)
Gospel truth
If we keep the commandments, we will be blessed temporally and spiritually.
Helaman 2
Helaman, the son of Helaman, becomes chief judge - Gadianton leads the band of Kishkumen - Helaman's servant slays Kishkumen, and the Gadianton band flees into the wilderness. About 50-49 B.C.
DC 52:12-32

Today is the Savior's birthday and the date the Church was organized in 1830.

The Mesa Easter Pageant is going on right now and one of my friends posted this picture on Facebook:

I wanted to go to the temple this morning but James was too busy with work so we rescheduled until tomorrow morning before my infusion.  I stayed at Cathi's this morning studying and then a little before one James came back and we took my car to Sears to have the oil changed.  While they were working on my car we went to Olive Garden for lunch.  After lunch I dropped my glasses off at Chandler Eyecare.  Sheri put in new lenses for me and a new nose piece.  She also gave me a new glasses case.  Great service!

Rainbow Bridge

I worked on my blog while James went out to work on Sal's sewer line.  He had another mishap, and still now connection.

This evening for dinner we had a date with Ben at Eklectic Pie.  We told him we would take him out once a month for reading his scriptures.  Max and Evan came too because they had also read their scriptures.  We had a great time and I am so sad that I did not take any pictures.  We all loved the pizza because the crust is ultra thin.  We talked about the scriptures.  Ben has a great spirit about him and has a testimony of the scriptures.  It was a fun evening.

Bern, Switzerland Temple #9

2 Nephi 15:1-30
In a world virtually overflowing with knowledge, how is there a famine of spiritual knowledge?
Alma 3-4
Men bring their own curses upon themselves.  Alma baptizes thousands of converts.  Iniquity enters the Church, and the Church's progress is hindered.  Nephihah is appointed chief judge.  Alma, as high priest, devotes himself to the ministry.
DC 30:1-11
How can we be more diligent in turning to the Lord and not give into fear or temptation?

GC:  'Gratitude on the Sabbath Day' by President Henry B. Eyring
"And now it came to pass that the burdens which were laid upon Alma and his brethren were made light; yea, the Lord did strengthen them that they could bear up their burdens with ease, and they did submit cheerfully and with patience to all the will of the Lord." (Mosiah 24:13-15)

I read from "Teaching in the Savior's Way", Live the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  I try to read one lesson a week from this manual and one from "Preach My Gospel" as well as the Sunday School and Relief Society lessons for the week.

My Primary lesson for the week is: "Witnesses See the Gold Plates."  I also did a little research on Family Search.  We are about to run out of names so I need to do some research to get more family names.
My breakfast for the day.

For lunch we had roasted veggies and they were quite delicious!

I had a healthy breakfast and lunch and then for dinner we had chili dogs.  Not very healthy, but tasty!

I know this is a little late, but I couldn't resist.

These were my handouts for visiting teaching this month.  The message was on the love of the Savior in our lives.

A heart box of chocolates under the scripture quote.

For Claire a Kombucha drink and some
organic blueberries.

Today I vacuumed all the wood shavings James brings in from the wood pile off the carpet in our bedroom.  He worked outside today and was careful not to track too many new ones in.  His allergies are really bothering him because he worked outside a couple of hours today.

In the Superstition Mountains

This evening we read from "Lady of the Lakes" and watched "While You Were Dating."  I had already seen the movie but James hadn't.

What can we do to help us give "no heed" to temptation?
Talk: "Shunning Temptation: A Key to Receiving Revelation"
By: Ian S. Arden
February 2004 Ensign
GC:"A Choice Seer Will I Raise Up" by Elder Craig C. Christensen
'Because Joseph was a prophet, we have the blessings and
ordinances of the temple that bind us to God, make us His people, and manifest to us "the power of godliness," making it possible one day to "see the face of God, even the Father, and live."
Because Joseph was a prophet, we know that marriage and family are an essential part of God's plan for our happiness.  We know that through temple ordinances and covenants, our cherished family relationships can endure eternally.'
GC: 'The Lord Jesus Christ Teaches Us to Pray' by Elder Juan A. Uceda
"Do you prepare yourself to make important decisions by praying to your Heavenly Father?  Do you prepare yourself for a moment of prayer?"

Seven Lessons Learned from the Savior:
1.  Satan is the source of temptation - 2 Nephi 2:27, Matthew 4:10
2.  The Savior immediately dismissed temptation.
3.  Jesus took strength from the scriptures as a means of shunning temptation.
4.  From the Joseph Smith Translation, we know that Jesus did not go into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil as portrayed in the King James version, for the righteous seek no temptation.  Rather,
"Jesus was led up of the Spirit, into the wilderness to be with God."
(JST. Matt 4:1)  When we are trying to lose weight, we stay away from the bakery.
5.  Satan tempts us at our weakest point.
6.  Obedience.
7.  Christ was tempted three times in quick succession.  Satan does not give up.

Aba, Nigeria temple

I had hot and sour soup and a sandwich for lunch.  I cleaned our bedroom and bathroom today which included changing the sheets, and washing towels and rugs.
I blogged for January 18th and 19th.

I made chicken rice soup and Red Lobster biscuits for dinner this evening.  I also paid bills, and emptied one storage box.

The Church's Pathway Program has gone global and the President of BYU-Idaho, President Tanner is taking it over.  Henry J. Eyring is the new president of BYU-Idaho.  He has to be President Eyring's son because he looks just like him.  At one time President Eyring was president of Rick's College, which was renamed BYU-Idaho

After FHE James and I watched a Hallmark movie called "Makeover."  We were in bed by 9.

Speaking of Cathi and Terry, here they are with the
amazing indexing group from Galveston 3rd ward,
one of the best in the entire Church.

Happy 88th Birthday to my Aunt Gene,
my dad's only sibling.  I love her!

I was going to go home today to get my visiting teaching done, but James talked me in to staying. While he was at work I drove to Dr. Allen's on Baseline and Power Rd. to pick up my thyroid pills.
I also went to visit Trina and Lola.  Trina took me to see the house they are buying.  It is near Ray and Signal Butte in the new Eastmark subdivision.

The subdivision is amazing with five parks and other recreational facilities and two schools.  Darrel and Trina have a nice view of the Superstition Mountain out the upstairs window.
Trina is very excited about the house.  It should close either on the 30th or 31st of this month.
 Trina and Lola
Lola trying out the new carpet.

Even though it sounds like it is a long ways out, the 202 goes right to it.  It only took me about 20 minutes to get back to Cathi and Terry's.
James was home waiting for me to go to lunch.  We were going to use our gift card and go to Black Angus but it isn't open for lunch so we went to Firebirds.  James and I both got appetizers for our entree's.  He had the crab cakes with tortilla slaw and mango habernero chutney and I had coconut shrimp with tortill slaw and mango habernero chutney.  I got five shrimp and he only got two crab cakes.
Coconut shrimp
We also had two small loaves of their sourdough bread.  It is so delicious!  Firebirds is one of my favorite places to have lunch.

After lunch we went home to take a nap.

Joshua got a haircut today.  Doesn't he look handsome?
He looks alot like Dallin.
Cathi and Terry got home a little late this evening because they went to pick Colin up.  Colin was very happy when he got here.  He came in and said hello to both James and I and then went to eat his chocolate donut with sprinkles.

This evening James and I went to Black Angus for dinner to use the gift card Kim and Brian got us for Christmas.  We both had the six ounce filet mignon and it was delicious!  I had a salad and mashed potatoes for my sides and James had steak soup and green beans.  We certainly ate well today!

When we returned to Cathi and Terry's, Dave and Laura were there visiting.  We joined them, the six of us sitting around the dining room table.  Colin preferred sitting on the couch, although he wanted Cathi to be with him.
We told Laura about project Ethiopia.  She came up with the suggestion that James should make it his Eagle Project.  I thought that was a great idea so I told Jared.  He liked it too.

I didn't get to watch "DWTS" tonight.  Sheri and Kim both had FHE first.
