'Sustainable Societies'
Elder D. Todd Christofferson
I think it safe to say that when people turn from a sense of accountability to God and begin to trust instead in the "arm of flesh," disaster lurks. Trusting in the arm of flesh is to ignore the divine Author of human rights and human dignity and to give highest priority to riches, power, and the praise of the world (while often mocking and persecuting those who follow a different standard). Meanwhile, those in sustainable societies are seeking, as King Benjamin said, to "grow in the knowledge of the glory of him that created them, or in the knowledge of that which is just and true."
P6 S4
He invites all of us to come unto Him and His Church, to receive the Holy Ghost, the ordinances of salvation, and to gain enduring joy.
I woke up with a sore throat, a cough, and achiness. Of course I ate some toast and milk and took my drugs before trying to do anything. I couldn't even sit in a chair. I listened to two conference talks, one from the last conference, and one from above by Elder Bednar. That talk by Elder Bednar really spoke to me. I love how he explains the importance of prayer and how our prayers are "linked together."
I watched and listened to the Vernon ward fast and testimony meeting on my phone while sitting in front of my computer. I went in and got my Sunday journal so I could take notes. Brother Grapp conducted and I loved his testimony about the importance of "small and simple things." Others who bore their testimony in our ward:
Lynda Van Haren, Ruth Wallace, Sean Bowen, Greg Andersen, Tamara Applegate, Susan Hubble, and Corrina Westbrook. Brother Bowen thanks the Relief Society for caring for their family by doing laundry, cleaning their home, and bringing in food. You could tell he was very grateful. Tamara, the RS president thanked the sisters who helped and bore her testimony of the blessings of service.
Stacy and Joshua listened and watched their ward fast and testimony meeting too. I tuned in late and watched several testimonies too.
This afternoon James fixed Stacy venison gravy to go over biscuits. It was one of her birthday requests. One of the other requests was to go on a Razr ride because she had such fun on the last one she went on. They saw both deer and elk last time. This time they were gone for about 20 minutes and came back covered in mud. It was a bust. I told them they should have gone into the town of Vernon and scoped out the elk and antelope in the field across from the post office. They never even thought of doing that.
Stacy took my black wool coat home to have it dry cleaned after I brushed most of the mud off of it.
I scheduled an appointment to have a Covid test tomorrow at CVS. I won't get the results for two or three days after.
We had "Come Follow Me" all together and had a great discussion.
This evening while James was indexing, I indexed earlier and my February total is at 1270, Stacy and I watched a show on Netflix called "Anne" which is the story of Anne of Green Gables. This version is a little more edgy and dark than the last version I watched but the girl who plays Anne is an excellent actress. We also watched a Christmas episode of "Call the Midwife."
