Sister Cristina B. Franco
Second Counselor in the Primary General Presidency
As we come unto Him, "we can be filled with joy, peace, and consolation. All that is hard and challenging about life can be made right through the Atonement of Jesus Christ." He has counseled us, "Look unto me in every thought; doubt not, fear not" (Doctrine and Covenants 6:36).
P1 S1
We solemnly proclaim that God loves His children in every nation of the world.
The Living Christ
P1 S2
None other has had so profound an influence upon all who have lived and will yet live upon the earth.
I worked this morning on finishing up the Valentines for the sister I minister to and their families. I ran out of time as I had an appointment at 10 a.m. at Barnet-Delaney regarding my cataract surgery next week. At 9:30 there was still a foot of snow all over the truck windshield. James found some Rainx and got most of it off, at least on his side of the windshield. I couldn't see a thing until he stopped and with a glove on his hand pushed most of the snow off. We hurried in to Show Low and even though we got behind some slow traffic we made it to Barnet-Delaeny-Perkins and I was only about five minutes late.
After filling out lots of information on an I-pad in the waiting room, there was three more segments to my appointment. The PA, Gary Crandell screened me for medical problems and copied off my meds and supplements onto the computer. He took my blood pressure and escorted me to see Hope Harris who goes over all of the paperwork involved with the cataract surgery, including the anesthesia. At one point it listed all of the things that could go wrong and even said death might occur. I was a little hesitant to sign, but I did. I guess it's do or die.
Next I was supposed to have my eye measured but the girl who came and got me said it looked like they already had my measurements from my last appointment. She also asked me, and she was the second person to do it, if I had had lasik surgery in both eyes. I told her I had not and she said the doctor had made a note that I had. Why would he do that? That makes me lose a little confidence in him.
I was there almost two hours and James was patiently waiting outside when I was finished. He had picked up hot and sour soup and Taco Bell. We went to Walmart so I could pick up some after surgery supplies. It would have cost me $40 if B-D-P supplied them. I bought surgical tape and some eyedrops and it cost me less than $15. Walmart did not have a clear eye shield so we went to Walgreen's. They didn't have one either but I ordered one online from Amazon which will be here on the 22nd. I also got gift cards for Sheri, Joe's, and Adam's birthdays and James picked out birthday cards for each of them.
Finally we were able to go home. We were both tired. James went in the bedroom to take a nap and I went to my recliner and turned on a movie. I kept falling asleep and having to rewind the movie but I finally made it through.
I finished my Valentine boxes and James took me to deliver them. Our first stop was at the MacArthur's. They weren't home and we didn't want to leave the box outside. Next it was the Halcomb's. James took the box in and I sat outside and admired Kerri's new bright red truck. It is beautiful! Best looking truck in Vernon.
Tanna wasn't home and if we left her box at the door the dogs would get it. We went back to the MacArthur's and at Chelsea's suggestion we left their box just inside their door. I was going to make a box for Jean Howard but thought better of it. I need to do something else for her. I do have a plant to take her. I talked with her granddaughter Cassie this afternoon. Jean goes in and out regarding Tom's death. They thought she had accepted it but today she told them that if Tom didn't come home soon she was going to be very mad at him.
They are also having difficulty getting her to eat. Cassie took Jean to the doctor today and he said that she was malnourished. I suggested noodle soup from Mountain Thai and Cassie said they got her some and she fed most of it to the dog. Cassie is going to have someone from hospice come out several times a week to help care for her. I still don't know when Tom's funeral will be. That's a question for another day.
This evening James worked on a bid for a house in Maricopa while I indexed and walked. He walked too and we listened to the end of "Fortune Cookie." Here is a brief summary of what the book was about:
Sadie Hoffmiller has always liked things to be just so. A place for everything and everything in its place. Order over chaos. And of all things Sadie should be able to control, her own wedding is at the top of the list.
With the big day just three weeks away, Sadie is busily adding the final touches to her wedding plans, but the arrival of a mysterious letter from San Francisco changes everything. The only person Sadie knows in San Francisco is her older sister, Wendy, whom she hasn't seen or heard from since their mother's funeral nearly fifteen years ago.
Sadie has faced off against murderers and criminals in recent years, yet the possibility of reconnecting with her sister is both overwhelming and frightening. Sadie soon discovers, however, that the letter is just the beginning when Wendy's world turns out to be a place of unanswered questions, twisted truths, and more than on person with a motive for murder.
The more Sadie digs into her sister's past, the more she places her own future at risk.
