Becoming Exemplary Latter-day Saints
President Russell M. Nelson
"Now let's turn to the topic of temples. We know that our time in the temple is crucial to our salvation and exaltation and to that of our families. After we receive our own temple ordinances and make sacred covenants with God, each one of us needs the ongoing spiritual strengthening and tutoring that is possible only in the house of the Lord. And our ancestors need us to serve as proxy for them. Consider the great mercy and fairness of God, who, before the foundation of the world, provided a way to give temple blessings to those who died without a knowledge of the gospel. These sacred temple rites are ancient. To me that antiquity is thrilling and another evidence of their authenticity."

We sold another book. The Anatomy and Physiology book I got at the Vernon library for ten cents. It sold for $40.50, the fees were around $15.00 so we made about $25.00. This was the first day it was on the market. We need more books like this!

I walked 3,000 steps this morning before leaving for the valley at 7:15.

We had prayer and we were on our way. We stopped in Show Low for gas and to go through the car wash. We also made a stop in Globe and then went straight to Dr. Douglas's in Chandler. James missed the exit to get on the 202. When I asked him why he said it was because I was on the phone with Stacy and he was distracted. Stacy had called to tell me that she has a job interview at a spa to do cool sculpting. She is very excited.

Because we were still on the 60 we went to Arizona Avenue to get off and followed Arizona Avenue all the way down to Chandler Blvd. and over to Hartford where Dr. Douglas's office is. I made it there a little after 11. My appointment was at 11. I am just here to get my teeth cleaned but will need to come back to get two more teeth taken care of.

Shelly is their new hygienest and she is who I saw today. Jackie was there and came over and said hi. I liked Shelly.

After my appointment James and I went to Goodwill and picked up a few books. James then took me to Kim's and dropped me off. Kim and I are going to lunch and James has a meeting about the Chacon job. We decided to go to Olive Garden for lunch.

I had a nice visit with Kim. We talked about Joseph and his future in the music industry. He has taught himself music theory and is so good on the guitar. Music is the one thing in life that he is passionate about. Joe is also writing some songs.

After lunch we went to Hobby Lobby where I bought some gift bags and tissue paper. When we got back to Kim's Brian was there for lunch. We felt bad that we didn't bring him anything.

James picked me up and we headed to Darrel and Trina's. James went straight upstairs to take a nap. I tried to take one but couldn't so I went back downstairs and played a game of Rummy with Ruby. She beat me but not by too far.

While James was still resting I started looking up bookstores on my phone. I found one over on Power and Southern called Half Price Books. When James got up we headed over. It didn't take me long to realize that half price books are too expensive.

James was hungry and since we have a $50 gift card to Cheesecake Factory we headed over to Superstition Springs mall for dinner.
We ordered crab cake appetizers, I ordered a chicken taquito appetizer for my meal (Not hungry) and James ordered the pot pie off the skinnylicious menu. I looked down at my watch and it was 6:30 and we still did not have our food. Addy's concert starts at 7.
I told the waiter and he figured our bill and soon our food was here. I ate half of mine and got a box for the rest. James finished his and said it was delicious.

It's a good thing that Trina's parents saved us seats because we were about five minutes late to the concert and the auditorium was packed. I don't think it's a good idea for them to do the junior high and high school concerts together.

The concert was two hours long and Addy was toward's the end. These are the songs her group sang:
Lift Thine Eyes to the Mountains
Oceans and Stars
Morokeni (Greeting Song)
Little David, Play on Your Harp
(This was the finale song and everyone
participated.)
Before the concert was over, but towards the end, a young man was walking up the aisle with 3 roses tied together. He stopped on our row and handed them to me. Now I have flowers to give to Addy.
After the concert was over I had to use the little girls room. I gave the flowers to James and told him to give them to Addy. Ruby came up to me later and said: "You can imagine how special Addy felt when she found out where the flowers came from." I said, "Who told her?" Ruby just looked sheepish. Who knew she was so sarcastic.
Lola stayed home with Rowan so she missed the 7th and 8th grade boys sing "A Million Dreams" from "The Greatest Showman." She loves that song.

Trina's mom was a little irritated the the concert was so long. Trina wondered why they sang so many love songs. I do agree with it being too long and think they should separate the junior high and high school. I thought the singing was good but it would have been nice to have had more songs we knew.

Lola went for a five minute walk with us when we got back to the house. That's all she needed and she was happy. I knew if she didn't get to go she would be upset.

We left Vernon around 7 a.m.  We have an appointment in Cathi and Terry's driveway to get our windshield replaced at 11 a.m. so we are cutting it a little close considering that we always stop at Burger House to pick up burros for Cathi and Terry.  We eat ours on the way because we love them hot and fresh!

We drove up into the drive a minute before the guy from Camelback glass got there.  I love my new windshield but I can't wash my car or take the blue tape off for 24 hours.

At 1 p.m. I had an appointment to get my teeth cleaned, and xrayed.  I tell Jackie, the hygienist, all about our plague of cows and how frustrated we are.  Well, I have a very tiny cavity starting on my bottom right back tooth.  Dr. Douglas said to keep it clean but since I don't have an upper tooth to match it she doesn't think we need to do anything, at least not right now.  The other cavity is where one of my front teeth got chipped.  I am having it taken care of on July 12th.  I tried to get it for the week I am down here at the condo but they were all booked up.  I went away from the dentist today with a commitment to give up eating candy.  I know it won't solve all my problems but it is a start.

On the way back to Cathi's I stopped to get gas at Quick Trip and the police showed up because two women were arguing very loudly.  I also went next door to get drinks and corndogs for James and I.

I picked up James at Cathi's and dropped him off at the Gilbert temple so he could do initiatories for four men.  This is just in case Paul and Brian come with us to the temple tonight.  I have enough names for Trina, Stacy, and I, Kim has her own name. We are very grateful to Jared for doing all the family research so we could do our own family names.

While James was at the temple I went over to Deseret Book and got bracelets for all of my daughters and daughters-in-law to keep their temple name on while they are doing an endowment session.  I even got one for Kacey and Sheri.  Sheri told me she would go tonight but when it came right down to it, she was just too stressed about leaving for California and dealing with family matters.

We picked up Stacy and drove to the Mesa temple in time for the last session of the day, the 7:30 session.  Kim wanted to drive her own car.  We thought it would be fun to go to the temple where we were all sealed and also Stacy needed to rent a dress.  We met Darrel and Trina at the rental desk and I gave them their names.  Paul and Brian did not make it.

The sister did not tell me when I called to find out the last session of the day, to accommodate Paul and maybe Brian, that it was a spanish speaking session.  Everyone had to wear headphones except for Darrel.

It was not my most reverent session.  I helped Stacy with her clothing and then found my apron had slipped off and I was sitting on it.  Those rows and seats are so close together in the Mesa temple!  It was quite a large session too.  When we got to the celestial room I told Darrel and Trina I wanted to take some pictures and Darrel says, "I don't think we are allowed."  Of course I meant outside Darrel!  It was so wonderful to have our children with us in this session.  We are going to make this a family tradition.  Maybe Jared, Kacey, Sheri, Ian, Brian, and Paul can be with us next year.

When we got back to Cathi's and Terry's it was 10:30.  Cathi and Collin were sleeping in the family room.  They call it camping.  Colin was watching a YouTube video on his iPad and Cathi was reading a book.  We finished the book she loaned us, The Shack, and returned it.  We liked the ending. We started the Lost Heiress.

Oatmeal for breakfast.  I did two blog posts in hopes that someday I will catchup.  I did my gospel study and read from "Aunt Dimity and the Summer King."  I had a bean burro for lunch and then cleaned my teeth really good in anticipation of my appointment with Jackie to get my teeth cleaned.

Cibeque Creek
(Doesn't this look like Marcy?)

After my appointment to get my teeth cleaned I hurried over to AZOral for my appointment with Dr. Shah for a consultation for the extraction of my upper right back tooth. The paperwork took forever but I was finally able to see the doctor.  I liked him.  We scheduled the extraction for Thursday, March 2nd, the day before I have my next infusion.  They gave me a 20% discount and I was sent home with the instructions to fill four prescriptions right away.

I went through Burger King on the way home and got a chicken sandwich for James and myself.  I went home and ate my sandwich with James and then headed to the movie with Charlotte.  I picked up Charlotte and we drove to the Harkin's Theater near the Chandler Fashion Center.  We stopped for popcorn and drinks and by the time we got in the theater the lights were out.  I went ahead of Charlotte and found out seats and then proceeded to spill the popcorn all over the floor in front of her seat.  She hobbled up the stairs with her cane and luckily did not slip and fall on the popcorn.  This is the movie we saw:

It was a little quirky but we liked it.

Happy Birthday Vickie!
You have a heart of gold.

Helaman 16:9-25
Why is it dangerous to depend on your own strength and on your own wisdom?
Michael - Man is foolish and when we choose to depend on our own thoughts before the scriptures we often find "reasons" to exempt ourselves from commandments.  It's like a slow but dangerous road to becoming an apostate.
Sheri- It is justification for unrighteous behavior.

GC: "A Choice Seer Will I Raise Up" Elder Craig C. Christensen
' Because Joseph was a prophet, we have more than a window into heaven, the very doorway to the eternities is open to us.'

I love this.

After prayers, scriptures, and a General Conference talk I read to James from 'Wars of Light' the second in the Millennial Glory series.  At about 10:40 I left for my dental appointment at Aquila Dental.  I am scheduled to have a new crown put on over the root canal Dr. Higgs did last month.

I ask the doctor to please look at my other missing crown and do an estimate of how much it would cost to replace it.  He took pictures and showed them to me.  It wasn't pretty.  I have a broken tooth.  Not only would I need a crown but I would have to have repair work done on the tooth.

James and I met for lunch at Jersey Mike's and then I went back to brush my teeth and go on to my appointment to have my teeth cleaned at Dr. Douglas's.  Dr. Douglas was leaving to do something with her son, Evan when I got there.  I saw Jackie who cleaned my teeth, and then Melissa, Dr. Douglas's assistant.  They both agreed that I needed to have the tooth extracted and gave me a referral to an oral surgeon.  The story with my teeth is a continuing saga.

Back to Cathi's for a nap and then on to my next big adventure.  I drove to Power and Baseline to pickup a month's supply of thyroid pills from Dr. Allen's.  There was a wreck on the way over which really slowed me down.
When I returned to Chandler I went to Pei Wei to get their famous spicy chicken salad.  James declined to be my dinner companion.
He is working at the yard where he stores his construction equipment.  He wants to be moved out by December.
Pei Wei Spicy Chicken Salad

Back at Cathi's I waited for a call from Trina.  I am meeting her at the Chandler mall so Ruby and I can get our ears pierced, again.  It is my third time and Ruby's fourth.  We went to Addy's favorite store, Claire's.  There was only one girl working there and she looked like she was about 12 years old but she assured me she was old enough to do our piercings.  Ruby was going to go first, but she was too nervous so I took her place.  She held my hands.
Ruby is such a sweetie!
I am one hip Grannie!
Ruby's turn while I held her hands.
We survived!
Ruby got the ruby earrings and I got the diamonds.
While we were getting our ears pierced, Lola was picking
out the monkey that she wants for Christmas.
(She actually cried when she had to leave him behind.)

We said our goodbye's and as I was leaving Lola kept yelling, "bye Gramma".  I kept turning around and waving to her until she couldn't see me anymore.  What a fun evening.  Rowan was such a good sport.  He was dying to go to the Lego store but Trina said next time because she had to hurry home for a tennis lesson.
I love spending time with my grandchildren!

Back at Cathi's she told me all about their trip to Salt Lake City and all the fun things they saw and learned.  She especially loved doing a live session in the Salt Lake temple.

I read to James before we went to bed.

These are our friends from Vernon,
Wendy and Collin DeWitt.
They just received their mission call to the Carribbean and
will be leaving in May.  Collin was our home teacher.  He and I lived on the same street in Phoenix when we were in grade school.
He was the fire chief in Gilbert until he retired in 2013.  She is an expert in food storage and has spoken with Glenn Beck and been on BYU TV.  We are very excited for them!

I started my new gospel study journal today.  I think I am going to love it!

I had an appointment at Dr. Douglas's this morning to get my teeth cleaned by the hygienist, Jackie.  What a relief, I don't have any cavities and don't need to come back until August if I promise to floss everyday.  Because the new insurance we have isn't very good I had to pay $136 for a cleaning and x-rays.

After my appointment James and I took the giftcard he got me for Valentine's Day and went to The Cheesecake Factory.  We tried two new things on the menu: The French Country salad and the Bellagio chicken.  James also got come crab cakes.
One of our new favorite meals!

Stacy and I worked on Joshua's room together this afternoon.  Stacy is feeling sad that none of her boys so far have served a mission and she wonders why.  I am not sure why but part of it is that the pull of the world is so strong. Also I told her that they must love the Savior and really appreciate why we need Him and what He has done for us.

This evening James had to check something out at the Chandler Airport for Greg Hatch, so I went with him.  I walked around while he "checked things out."  We came home and read from "Trouble in Store."

Here is a picture of Sheri at work.  She works at Chandler Eye Care.  The little girl is Alexus Coffey, a little girl in her ward.  I remember Alexus when she was in nursery.  She was quite the character.
 Sheri the Optical Engineer.
I couldn't resist this picture that Jared posted on Facebook of Molly holding a bunny.
I don't think the bunny is nearly as happy as Molly is.
This next picture is of Kaeli Nicoll, the other counselor in the Young Women's.
22 weeks.
I made a trip to the valley this morning.  I stopped in Show Low for gas and a drink at Circle K.  I went this Payson way this time because I really do prefer it, although I don't mind the Globe way as much as I used to.
I got to Dr. Douglas's office in Chandler a few minutes before 1pm for my 1pm appointment to get my teeth cleaned.  Jackie, the hygenist, asked all about Stacy and wanted to see pictures of our cabin.  Wouldn't you know it that I couldn't find pictures of either one on my phone.
After my appointment I went home and unpacked.  James arrived shortly and because we were both hungry we went to Olive Garden to get something to eat.  I had their chicken scampi which is delicious!
Afterwards we went to Target and then Barnes & Noble to look for the game of Five Crowns for Dennis and Denise.  Denise said she couldn't find it in Show Low.  Target didn't have it but they had some flowers.  We got a bouquet for Lois and then bought Five Crowns at Barnes & Noble.  I also bought myself a purple leather journal and a nice pen.  Just what I need, another journal.
Back at home James and I played a game of Five Crowns using our old worn out cards.  I wasn't about to open the new ones I got for Dennis and Denise.
Laura called this evening and invited me to her house for quilting club.  Karen Schneider and Adrienne Ellsworth, two of my good friends were going to be there.  I had to decline because I was already in my comfy clothes watching T.V.  I was sorry to see Angie leave American Idol this evening.  James and I watched Body of Proof and Castle on our computer downstairs via Hulu Plus.
James is so happy to have me here with him.

I pulled weeds for two hours this morning outside on the south side of the house under the mulberry and silk
oak trees.
Before.  I forgot to take an after picture but all the grass,
weeds and leaves were gone when I was finished

At 10 am I had an appointment at Dr. Douglas's with Jackie to have my teeth cleaned and to have xrays taken.Things went well until Dr. Douglas came in and told me I had to have another crown and a cavity filled.  I told her I would be back in October.

Laura and Cathi took me to lunch at Chompie's for my birthday.  What a fun place to eat.  Laura and I had the Asian chicken salad and Cathi had a chicken quesadilla.  The food was yummy.  I so enjoyed my visit with two of my besties.

James went to see the pain doctor and to look at the results of his MRI.  While I was at Dr. Douglas's she said he needed to get permission from his cardiologist to get his teeth cleaned so I reminded him.

This afternoon I had an appointment with Tiffany at the Arizona Arthritis and Reumatology Center.  I like Tiffany.  She gave me another card to get my Enbrel for free for six months.

On our way back to Vernon we stopped at the Bass Pro Shop so James could get some shoes with the $75 gift certificate the Braddock's gave him.  He was disappointed because they didn't have any in his size.
I bought some butter pecan syrup and a pancake mix.  We were home by around 9pm.
