Dedicated: 19 May 2002
By: Gordon B. Hinckley

Jesus Christ, Crucifixion
1Corinthians 1:23
But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeds follishness;
Book of Mormon
Helaman 13:1-20
How can I be more like Samuel the Lamanite?
-I can become more like Samuel the Lamanite by following the counsel of the Lord, listening to the Spirit, and sharing the gospel with others. I also should not be afraid of others and their opinions.
General Conference
Opening Remarks
President Russell M. Nelson
"As Latter-day Saints, we have become accustomed to thinking of 'church' as something that happens in our meetinghouses, supported by what happens at home. We need an adjustment to this pattern. It is time for a home-centered Church, supported by what takes place inside our branch, ward, and stake buildings."

We had much needed rain most of the day today. I know it also rained and cooled down in the valley too.
On our trip to Heber on Sunday we noticed all the dead pine trees along the way because of the dryness which causes bark beetles to attack the trees and kill them.

I learned some interesting things about the Creation during my personal gospel study this morning. Here is a quote from the Prophet Joseph Smith:

"...the word create came from the Hebrew word baurau which does not mean to create out of nothing; it means to organize; the same as a man would organize materials and build a ship. Hence, we infer that God had materials to organize the world out of chaos - chaotic matter, which is element, and in which dwells all the glory. Element had an existence from the time He had. The pure principles of elemennt are principles which can never be destroyed; they may be organized and re-organized, but not destroyed. They had no beginning, and can have no end "(TPJS, p. 350-52; see also 28 Truths Taught by the Book of Mormon, p. 42).

I made pancakes for the boys this morning. They each ate one big one and they were done. I had planned on going shopping this morning but ended up paying bills instead.
James came home because he couldn't work in the rain. The two of us went to town to get pizza and chicken for the boys. I let each boy choose a meal or two. Evan and Max wanted Pizza Hut pepperoni pizza, and Evan asked for fried chicken. Max doesn't like Walmart or KFC chicken so we went to Safeway for the chicken before picking up the pizzas.
James said I shouldn't have gotten two large pizzas, that mediums would have been enough. Those pizzas were gone in five minutes time.

After lunch and a nap I went back in to town to do some real grocery shopping. Joshua wants spaghetti and burgers, Max wants hot dogs and steak, and Rowan asked for honey lime chicken enchiladas like his mom makes. I bought a lot of groceries and spent double what I normally spend. I did by lots of snacks and plenty of steak and hamburger.

Since we had pizza for lunch, we had the chicken for dinner. I also made macaroni and cheese, a salad, and some garlic bread and fresh pineapple.

For F.H.E. we watched the video about Robert Mason and Wilford Woodruff called, "A Search for Truth."

After FHE the boys went outside to play with the laser guns.

We heard the news that President Ballard's wife Barbara passed away today. How sad to happen right before he speaks in General Conference.

James and I worked on our book business this evening. By working I mean we did some more training sessions. James said that the more he learns the more he is getting excited about doing this business. I got my Amazon Store Card approval for an extra 5% off of all purchases we make.

Huddled around Max's phone because we couldn't get the
FHE video to work on the computers.
"A Search for Truth."

Ben and his companion Elder Nelson from
Minnesota who is the zone leader.
Ben does all the driving. Grandpa will give some
pointers about driving in the snow.

Taylor Wanlass took this photo yesterday after
sacrament meeting. Ben is in his sister-in-laws ward.
Taylor's dad is the bishop of the Galveston 3rd ward
in Chandler.

Playing Apples to Apples. These boys get
along so well together!

The faces of Charlie. I have got to make
a photo album!

Skittles misses Joshua. She broke out of her cage
to tell Stacy about it.

Darrel took this picture of Lola. Trina's brother Bryce says she looks like Sherman from Mr. Peabody.

Joel came to paint this morning and Alex, Ben, and Seth worked outside.  Seth got sick and went home early.  I think the heat bothers him.  James is remodeling the lights downstairs and left Skittles in the dark.  Skittles is the family love bird.  When Michael got home from San Diego he immediately brought her upstairs and put her cage on the floor by the fireplace.  She's been chirping and happy ever since.

Senor Tacos for dinner.  I wanted to go to Serrano's and get a chili relleno, but there was no place to park.  Senor Taco's chili relleno was okay but the thing that makes Serrano's so good is the sauce they put over it.  Maybe next week if I am feeling up to it.  I have felt a little better this week since my infusion.

James and I did a little grocery shopping at Walmart this evening.  He picked out a new watch for Father's Day since the one I got him isn't working.  I also got him some dark chocolate Hershey's Nuggets with almonds.  They are his favorite.  Walmart was crazy.  I wanted to come after dark when it was cooler and it looks like everyone else in Chandler had the same idea.

I also worked on our Primary lesson today which is on Repentance and the Atonement.
Michael says he's going to miss San Diego and the sunsets on the beach.

Happy 42nd Birthday Stacy!
You are almost too old for me to post your age!
 Stacy's birthday gift.
I call her Lulu because that's the name of the
designer.

Michael went to Circle K this morning and got Stacy a Code Red drink, a Caramello bar, and a teddy bear for her birthday.  What a thoughtful guy!

I had planned on going to Max's flag football game this morning but I was hurting too much.  I needed to get home to give myself an Enbrel shot.  I have been giving myself a shot every other week instead of every week to make the Enbrel last longer.  I only have one shot left.  I hope I get approval to start on Remmicade soon!

James got a power sprayer at Home Depot.  I went next door to Staples and got me some colored pens.  I also went through the drive-thru of Krispy Kreme.  We wanted to go visit Darrel and Trina before leaving town but Darrel is at work and Trina wasn't home.  Maybe next time.  I went home the Payson way and of course James went through Globe so he could go to Burger House.

I was sad when I got home to see that the snow was all melted.  Everyone is getting concerned because of the lack of moisture we have received this year.  We have drought like conditions just like California.

When I got home and the car was unloaded I put on my pajamas and crashed on the couch.  I watched the latest episode of Sherlock with James and we also watched When Calls the Heart and a Hallmark movie "Chance for Romance.  For dinner we had our Burger House burros.

I forgot to mention that before leaving Chandler James visited with Cathi's son Chris and his wife.  They are making a National Geographic special about them and their life on Kodiak Island.  Cathi was so happy he came.  She hasn't seen him in 15 years.

James mowed and edged the front lawn in Chandler today.  I raked up the grass and watered.  Afterwards Michael did some sweeping for us.
Joshua borrowed my phone to play Angry Birds.
He also took this picture of Skittles.
Went to Rowan and Evan's soccer game on the way home.  Ian's parents and Trina's parents were there and so was Darrel.  Rowan was sick and didn't play, which is sad because it is probably the only game that Darrel will be able to go to.  Ian's dad and Trina's dad really hit it off.  They know some of the same people from their work, although Ian's dad is now retired.  It was fun to hear them talk.
Of course we stopped at the Burger House on the way home.  I am so glad we ordered ahead because it was insanely busy.  The line was out the door.  There were about 50 boys including their leaders who had done a triatholon, Boy Scouts who had been biking, and hardcore older bikers (Hells Angels type) there.  I guess the secret is out about how good their food is.
I stopped at the Verizon store in Globe and got myself a new car charger.  My old one doesn't work anymore.  When we got home I took a shower and sat down to relax before working on my lesson I will give tomorrow on the Book of Mormon.  James went for a walk and saw some elk.

Here are some picture from the Ragnar race:

Sheri and her cheerleader.  Just a fellow runner.
