Alma 32:1-20
What does it mean to be humble and how do we humble ourselves?
April General Conference
'True to the Faith that Our Parents Have Cherished'
Elder Hans T. Boom

James and I both got up at six. We had prayer and scriptures and then we had breakfast together. Shakes and turkey sausage. We listened to all of Alma 32 and then picked out a question to send to R.E.J. I also send the question to Max on Sunday.

We left for church at 8:30 before anyone else in the house was up. We picked up Kim and then headed for Sheri's ward on Dobson & Galveston. We got there the same time as Sheri and Evan. Sheri was carrying a big tray, which I imagine contained cookies, and had to take them to the Relief Society room before coming in to the chapel.
Friends we saw as we entered the chapel. Erik's girls, Mabel and Aurora were at the door to greet us, inside we saw Erik. Oliver wasn't there and neither was Amelia or Tabitha. We also saw Jen Coffey, Steve Menlove, Laurel Chipman, Paula Casto, the Finlinson's, Bunny Miner, Lynda Cull, Jackie Hall, Cathi, and Dave & Laura. I imagine Terry is at home with his mom.

Sheri, Evan, James, Kim, and I sat in the back of the chapel where all of the wheelchairs set, there are several in this ward. Jen Coffey sits way back there too. Right after sacrament meeting was over I went out into the foyer facing Dobson Rd. and met Addy there. All of Sheri's friends and family all sat together to support her:

Kim, me, Addy, Sariah (Cayli's cousin)
and of course, Sheri. Cayli was sick
and couldn't be here. Sariah works with Sheri
at Chandler Eyecare.

Sheri did a great job. After the lesson she asked us for constructive criticism. Addy said, "well, there was that one time you said good instead of well." Those words are right out of her Dad's mouth. She truly is Darrel's daughter!

Here are some notes I took from the lesson based on President Oaks' talk, "Divine Helps for Mortality" and Sheri's lesson:

"Small things you do consistently over time,
transform you."

Laurie Jensen took the picture for us. Thank you Laurie. Kim and I don't dawdle, she needs to get back to her ward to teach Primary. After we drop Kim off at the McQueen building James and I return to Stacy & Paul's. They aren't there, because they are at church. They are in Kim and Brian's ward. Oh, one thing I forgot to mention, yesterday and last night (she was up until midnight), Kim made 75 frosted sugar cookies for their wards elders quorum. Brian is the elders quorum president. Kim says she has extras and we should come by later to pick some up. We definitely will because these sugar cookies are my very favorite cookie of all time.

Back at Stacy & Paul's we changed our clothes and left with our ice chest to go to Sheri's for lunch. I brought some of the breakfast casserole with us for lunch, plus protein shakes. Sheri shared her sourdough bread and DPZ with us. I also brought some carrot sticks. I shared them with Ollie and Ziggy. Who knew that dogs like carrots. Evan was asleep while we were there so we didn't get to see him, but we did get to see Max and give him a hug. He was on his way to work at Winco across the street. Ian was mowing the back lawn so we didn't get to see him either.  I love Sheri's Sunday bag so much I took a picture because I want to order one like it.

We went back to Stacy's to pick her up. She is going over to Cathi & Terry's with us to see James's mom. Stacy looks so pretty in her lavender dress. She got her hair cut and it looks so good on her. Cathi can't get over how good Stacy looks. I guess she hasn't seen her since she lost all of her weight.

Stacy visits with mom asking her about her half siblings. Mom's dad was 25 years older than her mom and he had several children when he and Maggie (Lois's mom) got married. I gave mom the journal I got her to write life history notes. She said, "I have so many of these." I showed her the tree on the front and said, "Do you know what tree this is?" She said no. I said, "It is the tree of life which represents the love of God, so every time you pick up the journal you can think how much the Lord loves you." She decided she would keep it.

James kept asking to see Terry's new pug. I guess Terry was asleep with both dogs in the bedroom. Cathi came out with a tiny black bundle.

Lois calls her the 'devil dog' because
she stole a piece of bread out of
her hand.

Lois (Mom) and Cathi

Cathi and I went over to the dining room table. I told her what Kim said about Mom not being happy because she was 'forced out of her home.'  Cathi explained that Dawn just didn't feel comfortable anymore taking care of her. Dawn's condition is deteriorating rapidly. That is what I figured. I thought maybe Laura was involved in the decision but Cathi says she was not.

Wally let me pet him behind the ears. He is such a cute little dog!
He sat down and scooted across the floor backwards to get close to me.

Sorry I didn't get good pictures of the dogs

Dawn and Aunt Faye come just as we are about to leave. It is nice to see them. Mom got up to use the restroom and ended up vomiting.
So sad.

We visited with Aunt Faye for a few minutes. I told her about my journal/blog and she said she had a blog for years. She used it to post inspirational stories and quotes. She said she is writing a book about her life called, "Defining Moments."

We also visited with Terry about his wonderful back doctor, Dr. Song. Cathi & Terry both really sing his praises.

Cathi & Terry still have their large tortoise, Scooter. I start to go in the back yard to find him but Terry says he finds a cool place to hide when it is hot outside like today.

We finally left around 2:30. James didn't get to say goodbye to Mom because she still hadn't come back out to the family room.

We stopped off a Kim's before going back to Stacy's and got some sugar cookies. Two frosted ones for me, a couple of unfrosted for James, and a bag of mini cookies with no frosting which James munched on on the way home. She also had several cookies for Stacy. I ate on of mine on the way back to Stacy's.

In the car before we get her back home Stacy shares how she feels about speaking at their stake women's conference in August. She says she doesn't feel worthy to speak because none of her kids are active except Joshua and now he probably isn't going to go on a mission. I try to cheer her up and told her to please try to focus on the good things she has done, especially regarding the stake Easter event and all of the hard work she put in to it. I praised her for sticking with it and losing so much weight. I hope I helped her to feel a little better.

Back at the Gonzo's we load up our car to go home. Joshua carries two cases of shakes to the car at a time. Muscle guy. Impressive.
We give Joshua and Stacy a hug and head for Darrel and Trina's.

They don't get out of church until 3:30 and we arrive about 3:20. Addy is home making brownies so we had no problem getting in to the house.

I brought Lola her "small things" basket along with Ring Pops and Tootsie Pops for everyone. I am sorry I didn't get a picture of everyone but her are the ones that I took:

Doesn't he look handsome!

And why weren't you at church?
You know I had to work, dad.

Lola's birthday gift from Addy.
Lola asked for it.
Silly girl.

It's 4:15 when we leave for home, going the Salt River way.
Tom is so happy to see us and be with us. He runs through the house, James plays with him, and then Tom follows me around. When we start to say our prayers he wants out.

I forgot to mention that on the way home James went by Owen Taylor's to borrow a harness to use to get up on the Crane's pump house roof tomorrow. This harness is huge and I'm afraid it's not going to work for James.

"If we sincerely repent, humble ourselves, and trust and rely on the Lord, our hearts will be softened."

D&C 76:11
For they shall be judged according to their works, and every man shall receive according to his own works, his own dominions, in the mansions which are prepared.

The lotion Cathi uses to rub Mom's feet.
She loves it.

Cathi's kitchen is full of interesting things.

Mom's bed. The quilt she made is so beautiful with little white
and yellow daisies all over it.

Rocks Cathi painted. I don't think
I will show her my flag rock.

Kacey went to the Dallas temple. It was
her 12th time this year.
