We gather this beautiful Sabbath morning to speak of Christ, rejoice in His gospel, and support and sustain one another as we walk in "the way" of our Savior.

Prepared for Sunday School, Brother Applegate's class by looking up the verses he outlined in D&C 124. There were 26 of them. He wants to know what these verses have in common and why they are important to us. Here are the verses: 8, 16, 17, 24, 44, 45, 46, 47, 68, 69, 70, 71, 74, 83, 86, 87, 89, 90, 100, 103, 104, 108, 110, 115, 122, 141.

I typed each verse out and then compared them. I thought maybe the word he was looking for was Obedience. The Lord specified certain things for each person to do and then said what the reward would be if they followed His directions. When I raised my hand in class to talk give my answer and said I thought the word was obedience Brother Applegate said I was definitely on the right trail but the word he was looking for was ... if.  I should have known but I was over-thinking what he was looking for. Just as a side note I looked up the ten people the Savior was speaking to and seven out of ten did not remain faithful or obedient.

After Sunday School Brother Applegate thanked me for being prepared and my friend Maxine was standing close by and said, "isn't she amazing." It is nice to have such good and loyal friends.

The speakers today in sacrament meeting were from the stake. Brother Skousen from the high council and Sister Watson from the Young Women's. Sister Watson's message was on stronger homes and living inside our temple covenants.

Brother Skousen used President Oaks's talk, "The Need for a Church." He expressed his love for the Vernon ward and the importance of being at church. He spoke about the importance of keeping the Sabbath day holy, renewing our covenants, and fellowshipping with others and having our hearts knit together in unity and love. We are better people by attending church. Multiple blessings are available, one being that we can become more Christlike. We take upon us his name. As often as we repent we will be forgiven.

We had tithing settlement after the block today. James wanted to be here so he dressed up and came. The bishop challenged us, as he did Sister Bartels when she went to tithing settlement, to read President Nelson's talk from the women's session of the October 2020 General Conference, "Embrace the Future with Faith." Not only are we supposed to read this talk but we are to make lists of things that we will do as a result of reading it. The bishop asked us how temporally prepared we are for the future. I told him we were prepared but not on his level or the DeWitt's.

James and I watched a Christmas movie together and did some indexing. This evening we drove over to Sister Bartels to take the two copies of President Nelson's talk to her. Earlier today she had told me a story about our mutual friend Barbara Goodman who just happened to be her neighbor. A tree got run over which caused it to bend and Barbara came to the rescue. She wrapped the tree in burlap, braced it up, and watered it every day along with some other trees in the area. This was a side of Barbara I didn't know about. Not only did she care for and nurture people, but she cared for and nurtured trees too.

I told Sister Bartels she was going to have to take over the watering of the trees. She said she would but she needed to find out where the other trees were. That shouldn't be too difficult with all of the neighbors in the area. Pierce is home, well at least at his daughter Aubrey's home. Aubrey and her husband and two kids live next door to Sister Bartels. Barbara's funeral is scheduled to be on December 4th and will be here in Vernon. She will be buried in Show Low.

Kathy Crane and I sat by Donna Peeler today during sacrament meeting. There was a couple of empty spaces next to Donna where Barbara always sat. Donna texted me this evening and thanked me for sitting by her. She said it was nice to be surrounded by great people. I told her that's why we wanted to sit by her. Donna is 79 and is quite frail but she has the best personality and sense of humor.

Tanna agreed to come to dinner with the missionaries at our house on November 30th.

James finally heard from Mark on the DaCroix job. James sent him a bill for $12,000 and he subtracted some things and said he would pay $10,000. James says he is a scoundrel. James will be getting up early in the morning to address all of the things Mark said were wrong on the job. They were minimal and nitpicky.

Happy Sabbath!

The Family Proclamation
#9
We call upon responsible citizens and officers of government everywhere to promote those measures designed to maintain and strengthen the family as the fundamental unit of society.

This was a week of people trying to scam us. First it's samantha through Zelle. Thank goodness Chase put a lock on our account until we could get a new username and password. I saw something online about being a Mystery Shopper and applied because I had heard the term before. This week they sent me a check for over $3,000 and a list of things I needed to do that had nothing to do with mystery shopping. I needed to buy gift cards and send money orders. When I saw send money orders, a red flag went up. I had done this before and I know how this scam works. I deposit the $3,000 check and use it to write money orders then they stop payment on the check and I am out all of the money. Not going to happen. I emailed the guy who contacted me and told him I was not interested and please do not contact me again.

James got an offer from Dasani. All he has to do is put their sticker on his vehicle and he can earn $500 a week. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. He deposited a check they sent him for $2,750 in our account yesterday. I was wondering why so much and a red flag went up for me but I didn't say anything because I knew he had been working with them for sometime and felt pretty good about it. Well the next thing they tell him to do is put $500 in our savings account which I did. Then he is supposed to go buy a $2200 money order to pay the person who is coming out to put on the decal. This is the same kind of scam he told them so. They still tried to convince him to go out and buy a money order TODAY! James called Adam and Adam said the decal scam is going around.

James was already feeling bad because of his physical ailments and the fact that Mark has not answered any of his calls and texts regarding paying him for the DaCroix job. He spent most of the day resting. He did try to go out and work for awhile but he felt too bad. He said to many tonight when we were getting ready for bed that his prayers are not being answered. I tried to encourage him

I had a mini disaster of my own. Four of the Christmas movies I taped today did not work right, so not only could I not watch them this evening but I had to retape them. If I was to say what makes me the most happy right now it would be Christmas movies. I did get to watch two today, "Dancing Through the Snow", and "The IceWine Christmas" both on Lifetime.  I learned how they make ice wine and also the importance of family in the last movie.

She looks so grown up!

This reminds me of my dad's ranch which
was next to the petrified forest

One of the movies I will have to wait
to finish watching

"To Be a Follower of Christ"
Elder Alfred Kyungu
Of the Seventy
Paul was an active man in the persecution of the Church and the Christians. But because of the power of heaven and the Atonement of Jesus Christ, he was changed completely, and he became one of the great servants of God. His model of life was the Savior Jesus Christ.

"Hold Up Your Light"
Elder Marcus B. Nash
Of the Seventy
While on a flight to Peru a few years ago, I was seated next to a self-proclaimed atheist. He asked my why I believe in God. In the delightful conversation that ensued, I told him that I believed in God  because Joseph Smith saw Him - and then I added that my knowledge of God also came from personal, real spiritual experience. I shared my belief that "all things denote there is a God" and asked him how he believed the earth - this oasis of life in the vacuum of space - came into existence. He replied that, in his words, "the accident" could have happened over eons of time. When I explained how highly improbable it would be for an "accident" to produce such beauty and order, he was quiet for a time and then good-naturedly said, "You got me." I asked if he would read the Book of Mormon. He said he would, so I sent him a copy.

The Family Proclamation
#8
We warn that individuals who violate covenants of chastity, who abuse spouse or offspring, or who fail to fulfill family responsibilities will one day stand accountable before God. Further, we warn that the disintegration of the family will bring upon individuals, communities, and nations the calamities foretold by ancient and modern prophets.

Listened to an infomercial early this morning and ordered something I hope will help with my hair.

As part of our scripture study this morning we read chapter 41 of Saints. After we were finished I watched the latest episode of this year's "The Great British Baking Show." A new episode comes out every Friday. Today is the semifinal. There are four bakers left and only three will go on to next week. Our of the four bakers, Giuseppe, Jurgen, Chigs, and Crystelle, I like Crystelle the best but she is probably considered the underdog. Today's results were totally unexpected. Jurgen, who has been star baker several times and is most always at the top, was sent home and Crystelle got Star Baker. That is completely the opposite of what I thought it would be, but I am happy. Crystelle, Chigs, and Giuseppe are in the final next week.

James had two people call him today about doing jobs at the Casa Grande airport. He was pretty happy! The bad news is he called Mark about getting paid for the DaCroix but Mark never called him back. Mark is not happy with Salvador or Armando but James went down yesterday and did most of their work. Hopefully he doesn't keep ignoring James's calls and texts.

We made a trip into town this afternoon. James stopped at the bank and then we went shopping at Walmart. On the way home we stopped at Taco Bell. We listened to "Charming Artemis" on the way to town and on the way home.

James laid down when we got home and I walked and watched "A Picture Perfect Holiday." Later we watched "Nantucket Noel."
