October General Conference
'Moving Forward'
President Russell M. Nelson
How grateful we are for the technology that allows us to be connected as one great worldwide gathering of disciples of Jesus Christ. General conference last April was viewed by more people than any preceding it, and we have every expectation that will happen again. During the past few months, a global pandemic, raging wildfires, and other natural disasters have turned our world upside down. I grieve with each of you who has lost a loved one during this time. And I pray for all who are currently suffering.
'We Will Prove Them Herewith'
Elder David A. Bednar
Tests in the school of mortality are a vital element of our eternal progression. Interestingly, however, the word test is not found even one time in the scriptural text of the standard works in English. Rather, words such as prove, examine, and try are used to describe various patterns of demonstrating appropriately our spiritual knowledge about, understanding of, and devotion to our Heavenly Father's eternal plan of happiness and our capacity to seek for the blessing of the Savior's Atonement.
P2 S2
He had questions regarding the salvation of his soul and trusted that God would direct him.
James left early for church today to be an usher. I got there just before nine and almost walked right past Ginger. I came in with the Grapp's and was talking to them when I realized I hadn't seen Ginger. She was walking towards me and I apologized to her. We went in and sat by the Halcomb's. James was still in the back ushering.
Today was fast and testimony meeting. These are the people who bore their testimonies: Lorraine Vaught, Paula Johnson, Sandra Wilhelm, Corrina Westbrook, Tina Allen, Tamara Applegate, Pierce Goodman, Dave Westbrook, and Wendy DeWitt.
I gave Tamara an autumn blanket because she liked the one I had at home. She seemed grateful. One of the missionaries told me I was awesome for helping Ginger. I told him it was my pleasure because I thought she was pretty awesome.
James had a meeting after church so it was awhile before he got home.
I made chili this afternoon when we broke our fast. We fasted that things would go well this week in our country with the election.
We watched a couple of new Christmas movies today, "Cranberry Christmas," and "The Twelve Dates of Christmas." We FaceTimed with Jared, Kacey, and Charlie. Charlie told us about trick-or-treating.
We had our Lambson Family Group Study via Zoom at six this evening. It was Jared, Kacey, Kim, Brian, James and I. Stacy said she wasn't coming when Kim texted her and Sheri said she was walking her dogs. We talked about Mormon 1-6. Next week we are going to study talks along with the "Come Follow Me" lesson. Kacey will decided which talks we will study.
I sent emails out to the sisters in my ministering district who have new assignments. It was a beautiful Sabbath day here in Vernon with the high around 70.
