Havasu Creek, Arizona

Today I had lunch with Jean Howard, one of the sisters that I visit teach.  It just so happens that she and her husband have a house in Chandler just a few miles from Cathi and Terry's.  I picked her up and we went to The Good Egg on Chandler Heights and Alma School.  It was her choice.  I guess it is one of her favorite restaurants.

I was just about to give up on being Jean's visiting teacher because I have had such a hard time contacting her.  I have only been to visit her once in the past six months but I try every month.  Jean is 75 years old and is not in very good health.  A few years ago she was in a horrible accident where the car she was traveling in was hit from behind by a semi-truck.  Her car went through the guard rail and rolled over six times going down a hill.  Jean had to have her back completely rebuilt and now has 40 rods and 80 pens in her back.  As she was recovering from this accident she was walking in a parking lot and a car backed up and hit her.  She is in constant pain and it is very difficult for her to sit for more than a little while.

Jean's favorite item at The Good Egg is Berry Breakfast Blintz which includes: 2 crepes filled with mixed berries, raspberry Greek yogurt, cream cheese, cottage cheese, warm blueberry compote, whipped cream, powdered sugar, caramelized pecans, cinnamon and nutmeg.  It looked something like this:
It was delicious, but more like a dessert than
a lunch.
I thought it would look like this.
Jean had bananas in hers because she needs to gain weight.  Obviously I don't have that problem.

I am so glad I got to know Jean a little better and now I will loo forward to our monthly visits.

As soon as I returned to Cathi's I loaded up the car and headed for home.  I was right behind James who had to make a trip back out to Fountain Hills.

I got home around 5 pm.  It was cold in Vernon but there wasn't any snow on the ground like there was on top of the rim between Payson and Heber.  I unloaded the car and sat down to enjoy some television.  I watched a couple of movies before going to bed.

I sure do miss James when I am here by myself.

I got to the hospital before 8am which is unusual for me, even though it was slow going and rush hour traffic.  It rained on me most of the way.  I brought James oatmeal and a blueberry pomegranate smoothie from McDonald's.  James gets to go home today!

Dr. Jaros, the doctor on call at the hospital wrote James some prescriptions before he left.  I told him to give us hydrocodon instead of oxycodon so he did.  Trina and the kids came by for a visit.  Each of the kids brought a gift bag with something in each one that they had made for James.

Trina was going to Sears in Chandler to get her car serviced and was going to hang out at the Chandler Mall with the kids while she waited.  I asked her if she could get me a Tinkerbell doll at the Disney Store for Molly's birthday.  She said she would and I gave her my credit card.

James and I left the hospital around 1:30 and headed for Chandler.  James is meeting Lloyd at Zaki's where Lloyd is going to do some work for him.  He also had to sign payroll checks.  I dropped him off and went to the CVS  on Pecos and McQueen to get James's prescriptions filled.  I also went by the bank to get counter checks.  James got his picture taken with Sheri before we left for home.

We got a couple of bean burros and a green chili burro at Filibertos only to be sorely disappointed.  The price we pay for not going through Miami and getting burros at Burger House.

I love the ride home through Payson as we reach the higher elevations and the clouds begin to form.  The fire danger signs are changed from extreme to low.  As we leave dry, cloudless, Show Low we can see ahead the dark skies over Vernon.

Quite a storm!

It has been raining hard here and we caught the very end of it.  We are both very happy to be here.  James was in an especially good mood.  We watched an episode of Rizzoli & Isles and one or two of the Walton's before going to bed.  James's new meds: hudrocodon for pain. Amoxicillin  and sulfamethoxazole for antibiotics.

Molly knocked on my door this morning around 7 o'clock to show me where Buddy the elf was hiding.  I had originally planned to leave after going to sacrament meeting and Sunday School, which would mean I would leave around 12 or 1.  I was worried about this because of my tendency to fall asleep when I am driving in the afternoon.  I decided to say a prayer.  After saying my prayer I felt like I should leave this morning, so I packed everything up and said my goodbyes.  When I said goodbye to James Hayden he helped me by carrying my suitcases to the car and loading them in.  Such a gentleman.  Tricia's flight home is scheduled for this evening.  I left around 8 am.  Today is fast Sunday so I didn't have anything to eat but I did take sugar free cough drops and diet Pepsi.  I am sorry that I will miss taking the sacrament and hearing Jared give his Sunday School lesson.

El Paso's radio station 99.9 plays Christmas music just like 99.9 in Phoenix, so that's what I listened to until I got to Silver City.  I love the 75 mph speed limit on the Texas part of interstate 10.

I never stopped once and was home before 1:30.  James was so happy to see me and I was happy to see him.

We had some sad news this afternoon.  Aaron, Tricia's brother took a turn for the worse.  He developed a blood clot that went to his brain and caused his death.  This all happened just before Tricia left for the airport, so she stayed with the family.  They are all devastated especially after thinking yesterday he was going to get better.

James and I watched the First Presidency Christmas Devotional this evening featuring President's Monson, Eyring and Uchtdorf.  We considered this our FHE.

This morning I went to Christina Tibbett's temple marriage with Cathi, Terry, Dave, and Laura.  James wasn't able to go because he didn't bring his Sunday clothes.  We were not originally invited to the wedding but Christina called James earlier in the week and invited us, but it was too late for him to bring his clothes because we were already down here.  The officiator at the sealing was one of the best I have ever heard.  Cathi, Laura and I were so impressed with his knowledge of the gospel.  The wedding was beautiful and Christina and John are a wonderful couple.
After the wedding James joined us for the luncheon at the Marriott in Mesa.  We visited with Aunt Faye and her fiance Cecil Reese.  He seems like a very nice man.  The luncheon was delicious with chicken in alfredo sauce and london broil with raspberry sauce, lots of salads and sides and carrot cake for dessert.

I came home after the luncheon and took a short nap and then took Evan on his birthday date to Target.  He picked out this new Batman Castle, a wallet, and some Batman sunglasses.
I love this boy!!
This evening on the way back home to Vernon we stopped at John and Christina's reception.  We visited with Lois and Dawn for a few minutes.  Laura and Dave, Cathi and Terry helped by making James's famous punch.  Before leaving I asked Christina where they were going on their reception and she said Honduras.  I guess there are some beautiful place off the coast of Honduras called the Bay Islands.  They are going to Rotan.  It was after 11 when we got home.
