General Conference
Spiritual Treasures
President Russell M. Nelson
"As you exercise faith in the Lord and His priesthood power, your ability to draw upon this spiritual treasure that the Lord has made available will increase."

Denice and Bishop Ron Hall were the speakers in sacrament meeting today. Denice's topic was casual versus careful based on Sister Becky Craven's talk in the April General Conference.
Denice has been a bus driver for the Blue Ridge schools for 15 years and she talked about her experiences with children in her talk. One of the thing she said was never make a promise you can't keep, especially to a child."To see the disappointment in a child's eyes if you don't keep a promise would break you heart." She also shared an experience when she went to visit her brother in prison. One of the most hardened looking prisoners was the father of a four year old girl that ran to him and said "Daddy"! She said his countenance changed and he melted into butter. Because of that experience she said she would never judge someone by how they look again. Denice also said "no empty threats." Don't ever say something that you are going to do if you really don't mean it.

Bishop Hall was the bishop when we moved to Vernon and I love him. He is such a dear sweet man. His mom was the sister of one of my former boyfriends and his grandpa was my bishop when I was a teenager in Show Low. Bishop Hall was assigned to speak on Elder Homer's talk, "Hearing His Voice." "In a world with so many competing voices, our Heavenly Father has made it possible for us to hear and follow His." Bishop Hall is a truck driver and he talked about going past the Wild Horse Casino in Chandler and it reminded him of the Great and Spacious building in Lehi's Dream of the Tree of Life. He said when he was a little boy his parents taught him over and over and over again about Lehi's Dream of the Tree of Life. He said he grew up knowing that if he held fast to the Iron Rod he would make it through the mists of darkness.
He told us to go home and read the story of Korihor in Alma 30. He mentioned the story Elder Christofferson told in conference about the stake president in California who was paralyzed as a result of a body surfing accident. Because of his focus on the gospel he was able to serve as a gospel doctrine teacher and a stake patriarch.
Bishop and Denice's older kids who aren't in our ward came to hear them speak. Bishop said he was proud of Denice because she deals with "anxiety" and it is difficult for her to get up and speak in front of people. (Maybe the anxiety comes from driving a school bus. That was just a thought I had.)

Amber Judd taught our Sunday School lesson and did an amazing job. I sat by a single sister who comes to church by herself. She had a couple of strokes four years ago. For awhile she stayed home but missed coming to church. I see her every week. It was great to have Ellen Kostusiak at church today. She and Dave came home this weekend. Dave has been in the hospital for months and I honestly did not think he would make it. After heart surgery he got mersa which caused all kinds of problems for him. So great to have them back!

I got some news from Maxine Thompson about Pat Tedder who fractured her back while working in the temple laundry room. Maxine is in the valley with her husband who is recovering from knee surgery and she went to see Pat today at Barrow's. This is the report we got: "I went to see Pat today. She is going to be moved to a rehab facility tomorrow. they are trying to avoid surgery so it would be very dangerous. She had a 'turtle' brace to wear. They did not give her a time frame, but she is guessing 3-4 months there.
If she moves at all it is extremely painful. She is only allowed to mover in her bed 30 degrees. She had a blessing at the temple and another one after the severity of the situation was realized."

We FaceTimed with Jared, Kacey, and Charlie. We love to do this every week and hope Charlie will recognize us when they come to visit.

This evening we listened to three "Come Follow Me" YouTube videos. I gained something from each one. They were all so very different. I think my favorite was "Teaching with Power."

 San Diego temple, so gorgeous!

General Conference
Standing by our Promises and Covenants
Elder Ronald A. Rasband
"I invite you to consider the promises and covenants you make with the Lord, and with others, with great integrity, knowing that your word is your bond."

We left the house around 5:30 to be at the hospital to register for James's surgery at 7:30. James complained because he had to be there so early but they kept him busy right up until the time the doctor came in to talk to him before the surgery. I like Dr. DeLange, he seems like a good doctor.

The first thing I did after saying goodbye to James was take my two merchant fulfilled books and drop them off at the post office.

I came back to the hospital and waited for awhile. The doctor said it was going to be a two hour surgery so I thought I had time to walk over to Walmart McDonald's and get some breakfast, which I did. I had a bacon, egg, cheese biscuit, hashbrowns and a diet Coke.
Does that sound like a healthy breakfast? Maybe the egg. But it was satisfying and delicious.

When I returned to the hospital James's number was not on the screen. So I asked where he was. He was still in recovery. He had some pains in his upper chest so they did some tests to make sure his heart was okay. The pains turned out to be from the CO2 gas they pumped into him to do the lapro-scopic surgery. The man at the desk told me to go up to room 204 and wait for him, which I did.

The first person I saw on the second floor was my friend Pam who works at the hospital. She is knee deep into her knew job and is loving it because it is challenging her. I told her about James's surgery she asked me who the surgeon was she said, "Oh, Dr. DeLange is great, he own's the place." (Figuratively speaking)
I asked Pam how Jenny was and she said, "not good." Since Pam has left their little room with no window she has a new person to work with. Pam says she has had a break out of lupus. Jenny's family has so many health issues, the most serious one is her daughter who suffers from brain tumors. She is such a nice woman I wish I could do more to help her or had the courage to bear my testimony and give her a Book of Mormon.

Pam invited me to go to lunch with her and Jenny but I said I needed to wait for James to come up. I wanted to be in the room when he got there.

When they brought James up he was swarmed by nurses. I barely had a chance to say hello. One of the nurses with the last name of Ellertson, a name I recognized in my teaching at Curry School, was friends with the Peeler's. She and her husband worked with Donna and Owen at the cannery in Mesa.

I stayed with James for awhile and then decided I needed to go home and pay a bill and pick up the mail. I left at 1 and told him I would be back by 4.

I made a DQ drive-thru for a box of cherry Dilly bars and ate one on the way home. After stopping at the post office I went home and paid the trailer tags which are due today online. Afterwards I rested for awhile and began watching "DWTS" Disney night. I left and was back to the hospital by 4.

James is still pretty miserable. I read to him several chapters from "Aunt Dimity Digs In". He says it helps take his mind off the pain.

I debated if I should spend the night but James encouraged me to go home because he said I wouldn't get any rest if I stayed here.

I left for home around 8:15. One the way I stopped for a smalll burger at McDonald's. When I got home I finished watching "DWTS" and then because I didn't feel sleepy, I watched a Hallmark Movies and Mystery movie starring Brooke Shields called, "The Flower Shoppe Mysteries." By the time it was over I was ready for bed.
I couldn't lock the door going out to the bbq grill so I pushed the loveseat up against it and made sure my bedroom doors were locked.

I miss James.

Can you tell this is before surgery?

Waiting for James to come to his room

General Conference
Found through the Power of the Book of Mormon
Elder Ruben V. Alliaud
"All must experience and be found by the power of the truths contained in the Book of Mormon."

3 Nephi 1:30 says: And thus were the Lamanites afflicted also, and began to decrease as to their faith and righteousness, because of the wickedness of the rising generation. Many of the rising generation today are decreasing in faith and righteousness while others are sacrificing to go on missions. What makes the difference?

"Rescuing Wayward Children", 'The Lone and Dreary World':
The universal law of opposites states that to ascend upon high we must descend below all things, so that we might comprehend all things, and thereby gain the ability to become as the gods - above, and in all, and through all things (DC 88:6). For reasons that we do not completely understand, this process is the only way to become exalted.'

Sheri went out running again this morning as she has the last two mornings. Alex and Max got up early and went fishing.

When Sheri returned from her run she made breakfast, hashbrowns, turkey bacon, and eggs. Sheri asked me if I wanted some hasbrowns and I accepted. Evan came asking for more hashbrowns and they were all gone. I felt a little guilty because I know how much he loves hashbrowns and french fries.

When it got time for Sheri, Ian and Evan to leave Max and Alex were still gone fishing.

Even though Joshua is staying, I wanted him to
have his picture taken with the people he came with.

Look what Alex caught along with his fish.

Another successful day at Silver Creek.

When Alex and Max got home they played a couple of games of
"Settlers." The set that James bought me for my birthday years ago is so enticing. Max and Joshua never played before and they both won a game.
Settlers of Catan

I sold three more books and my total yearly sales are inching towards the ten thousand mark. When I get to ten thousand I'm posting on the Book Arbitrage Facebook group.

While Alex and Max were sleeping this afternoon Joshua mowed our little patch of grass while James used the tractor to knock down weeds in the rest of the yard. It did my heart good to look outside and see them working together.

This evening I had a bad spell of dizziness and nausea. I guess I took Tramadol and didn't eat, or at least didn't eat enough. James brought me some Sprite and I went to bed very early, around 8 o'clock. I guess the boys had frozen pizza for dinner. Adam and his friends Kaitlyn and Chris arrived during the night.

General Conference
"Watchful unto Prayer Continually"
(Alma 34:39; Moroni 6:4; Luke 21:36)
David A. Bednar
"Constant vigilance is required to counteract complacency and casualness."

I forgot a major thing that happened yesterday. Sheri went running yesterday morning and asked Ben to call around 8 a.m., which he did. It was a Skype call so we got to see him and talk to him. He is so happy that he wasn't called as the A.P. He is staying in Ammon but his companion is being transferred. Sheri spoke to his companion and asked him how he felt about not being Elder Trezise's companion anymore. He said that he "cussed up a storm" when he heard.

Sheri talked to "Elder Trezise", he doesn't want us to call him Ben, probably for almost an hour. It was great to see him and hear him talk about his mission and the people he is teaching. Here is his letter and Sheri's letter to him:

James, Ian, Alex, and Max went fishing at Silver Creek this morning.

Here are the results:

Ian was the only one who didn't catch fish. I guess he's a little out of practice.

Back at home Sheri, Evan, Joshua, and I decided we wanted to go somewhere. Evan suggested Greer and I suggested Woodland Lake. We ended up going to Woodland Lake. I made waffles for Evan and Joshua and they sat down to watch Sponge Bob and Evan ended up taking a nap before we left for our adventure.

When we got to the lake I had hoped we would be able to walk completely around on the path. Last time we came I was with James, Max, Evan, Rowan, and Joshua and James wanted to leave after I just got started.

This time the same thing happened. We had just started walking when Sheri began receiving texts from Ian, Alex, and Max wanting to know what was for lunch and was she going to bring them something to eat. Immediately Sheri wanted to leave. I guess I will have to come another time to make it around the lake.

Evan relaxing at the lake.

On the way home we stopped at: Burger King, Subway, and McDonald's to get lunch for the Trezise guys and Joshua. James was home frying tilapia and sharing it with whoever wanted some.

When we got home Sheri started on her third puzzle. I went into the bedroom to rest and watch part of a movie. When it came time to cook dinner we had steak, veggies, and rolls. Afterwards James made a fire in the firepit and those who wanted to made smores. Max sang and played the guitar for our entertainment.

Outside in the cold, barefoot, and no shirt.

I told Sheri that Ollie needs a kitty, ha!

Sheri did three puzzles, here she just took one down.
These were big puzzles!
