General Conference
A Place of Belonging
Carl B. Cook
"The Lord would have you establish a strong quorum. As He gathers His children, they need a place to belong and grow."

Armando's daughter Allison who is 9 years old, has pneumonia. Her lungs are filled with fluid and there seems to be a mass on her right lung. She is not responding well to medication so they are doing surgery. James is fasting for her.

I got up today with every intention of going to stake conference but I just did not feel well or have the energy. James went by himself.
I stayed home and slept and, I will admit it, watched a Hallmark movie. When James came home he shared his notes with me. I did listen to a couple of conference talks and read my scriptures. I think I just needed some down time.

Two books sold today, although we don't do business on Sunday we can't stop people from buying our books on Sunday. One was an old Victoria Holt book, "On The Night of the Seventh Moon," and "Make a Mix Cookery." I used Make a Mix when I used to make chimichangas. They have a great chimi mix.

Here are some of James's notes:
Prelude Music: "Lead Kindly Light"
Elder David J. Harris, Area 70 presiding
Opening Hymn: "High on a Mountain Top"
Charlie Gordon from our ward was voted to receive the Melchizedek priesthood.
Choir: "This Is the Christ"
President Beeler - Our trials affect how we relate to and understand the suffering of others. They teach us compassion, to mourn with those who mourn, and comfort those in need of comfort. Our personal ministry is to do those things for others that only we can do. Heavenly Father does not exclude us from suffering but gives us the peace and comfort and direction to overcome and to reach out to others.
Emma Straine: 18 years old. Talked about President Nelson's admonition to be members of the Youth Battallion:
1. Fast for 7 days from social media.
2. Make a sacrifice of your time and give it to the Lord.
3. Make a life with your feet on the Covenant Path.
4. Pray daily for missionary opportunities.
5. Be a light to the world.
Frank Russell - New convert of one year. My conversion began from the natural man to start to become a saint, when the elders first began to teach. Going to the temple for baptisms has been very enjoyable. Testified of the truth of the Book of Mormon and prophets. The worth of souls is great in the sight of God.
Paula Johnson - Asked to give a report of her first visit to the temple. The temple is for imperfect people who are striving for perfection. Grateful for all those who helped get her there.
"How Firm a Foundation"
Sister Palmer - Gratitude for temple workers and patrons. The L.A. temple has 200 seats in their endowment rooms compared to 40 in the Snowflake.
President Palmer - In 4th Nephi for almost 200 years the saints lived in righteousness after the Savior's visit.
The importance of the Sacrament. The Savior in the Book of Mormon instituted the Sacrament. He invited the people to go home and invite others and to study and pray. We are invited to be in the temple often.
Choir: "Nearer My God to Thee"
Elder David Harris: Spoke of Richard G. Scott attended their stake conference while he was serving as a stake president. Elder Scott called their 18 year old daughter out of the audience. He asked her alot of questions about their family and their faithfulness: Are you having family home evening? Are you having family prayer and family scripture study? Last question was, who is in charge in your home. Her answer was: "Well my dad thinks he is, but really it's my mom."
Review President Beeler's admonitions and direction. Then he reviewed the Prophet's request during general conference including "You Need to Repent."
A simple invitation to attend a church meeting to his great grandmother in Scandinavia in the 1800's has resulted in so many faithful members of the Church with temple ordinances.
The Good Samaritan. Around us today are people who are hurting. People who have been beaten up, abandoned, stripped of self-respect and self-confidence. When we see a need we need to be a good Samaritan and render help and comfort. (See Mosiah 2:41). We have more opportunity than ever before.

In the late afternoon I did some walking and worked on my blog. James wrote an email to Ben. I will do mine in the morning.

This is the day President Eyring was called
as an apostle. Robert D. Hales is embracing him
while Jeffrey R. Holland looks on.

I like this "grass" better than that green
stuff outside.

Be Not Troubled
Elder Ronald A. Rasband
"Is it still safe and wise to bring children unto this seemingly wicked and frightening world we live in?"

Gather Together in One All Things in Christ
Elder David A. Bednar
"I pray that the Holy Ghost will enlighten each of us as we consider how the principle of gathering together in one all things in Christ applies in practical ways to learning and living His restored gospel in our daily lives."

I watched part of the movie "Annie Claus is Coming To Town" this morning. I like this quote by Annie: "Infuse yourself with the Christmas spirit and life just looks better."

James spent most of the morning outside cutting up his deer and packaging it in freezer bags. Now we have venison for Thanksgiving morning and Christmas morning. He also worked on our book business.

I emailed Ben, paid bills, worked a little on my blog, and walked and that's about all that I accomplished. I did watch a few Christmas movies which I normally have playing in the background. Oh yes, I made cookies for Sister Dye this evening and James delivered them. Today is her birthday.

We got a book we ordered for a trade-in so we prepared it to mail to Amazon. Hopefully they will like it and we will make a few dollars.

For FHE we listened to Elder Bednar's conference talk and then James worked on the computer looking for more books to buy while I watched a new Christmas movie, "Marrying Father Christmas." I still have a sore throat, and cough and now my chest hurts. I am going to try to sleep in my own bed tonight thought.
James built a fire before we went to bed.

Country night on DWTS. Kim and Stacy discuss voting. I sent Kim my friend Lina's suggestions on how to vote.

A picture a day keeps the blues away.

Prepare to Meet God
Quentin L. Cook
" The divine manifestations that occurred in the Kirtland Temple were foundational to the purpose of the restored Church of Jesus Christ to bring to pass the salvation and exaltation of our Heavenly Father's children. As we prepare to meet God, we can know what our divinely appointed responsibilities are by reviewing the sacred keys restored in the Kirtland Temple."

I went to Fry's around 7 a.m. to get cereal and M&M's, etc. for the girls. Ruby asked for Fruit Loops, my least favorite cereal.

I've decided that this Fry's caters to old rich people. I could not find No More Tangles for Lola's hair. I got her a detangler hair brush instead. I also bought Cheerios, Cracklin Oat Bran, strawberries whipped cream, popcorn, and apples, and rocky road ice cream.

I dropped off the groceries at the resort, James came down and took them in. I didn't even get out of the car. I had a dentist appointment in Chandler at 9 a.m.

Jackie cleaned my teeth while a girl who wants to become a hygeneist looked on. We talked about Stacy's family. Jackie always asks about her. I showed them the video of Michael playing the ukelele and Joshua singing. Michael was in yesterday so Doctor Douglas met him and she knows Joshua too. When I told her about Joshua befriending the sad boy who has no friends her eyes teared up. I am a proud grandma.

I paid my bill, made my next appointment and headed back to Scottsdale. Everyone was still in the room. I thought James would take the girls swimming but no such luck. We all went to Peter Piper Pizza for lunch. James got upset with me because I ordered him a drink and the lunch buffet. As a result, he gave his drink to Lola and took several pieces of pizza home with him.

The girls had a fun time playing games and getting their prizes. James said Lola was putting one coin in each machine, even if they needed two, and saying they were broken. He showed her how to play.

Back at the resort I took the girls down to go swimming. The girls swam, sat in the hot tub and played foozball. Lola played in the splash pad. Addy heard they were giving free ice cream if you had an owner's wristband so she went over to check it out. She came back with a strawberry cone. Of course Lola and Ruby wanted one too.

This boy came over and started playing
with Ruby.

Ruby beat him 10-9!

Mint chocolate chip.

Mmmmmm Chocolate!

On our walk back to our room.

After showers and baths the girls turned on the Disney channel.
We mainly just "hung out" until it was time to go to Ben's graduation party. Sheri and Ian went to the graduation held at the ASU activity center at 230 this afternoon.

We are proud of you Ben!

When we arrived at the party Sheri said their air conditioner was broken. It really did not seem too warm in their house. It was just our family that came to congratulate Ben on his graduation. Those attending: Paul, Stacy, Michael, Joshua, Sheri, Ian, Max, Evan, and Ben. Alex had to work. Kim, Darrel, Addy, Rowan, Ruby, and Lola and James and I. Oh yes, and Ollie!

Ollie watching Sheri

He is obsessed!

Ben has had some glitches in filling out his mission papers but hopefully he will continue to move forward.

After telling Ben we loved him and were proud of him, (we gave him his card and money last week) we left to go visit James's mom and sister, Dawn.

Lois now has a hearing aid which she says helps a person from getting dementia or alzheimers. She also has new glasses that Sheri help her get.

She ,of course, fed us and she also had an anniversary gift for us.

It lights up

Jesus Christ Atonement through

Turn to the Lord
Bishop W. Christopher Waddell
"Referring to the people of Alma: 'Rather than blame God they turned to Him and did pour out their hearts to Him.' In response to their faith and silent prayers, the Lord responded: 'Be of good comfort...I will...ease the burdens which are put upon your shoulders, that even you cannot feel them upon your backs.'
Soon after, 'the Lord did strengthen them that they could bear up their burdens with ease; and they did submit cheerfully and with patience to all the will of the Lord.'
Although not yet delivered from bondage, by turning to the Lord, and not from the Lord, they were blessed according to their needs and according to the Lord's wisdom."

Today I read an article in Meridian Magazine about the gifts of the three wisemen and their meaning. I want to share some of what I learned on my blog.

Gold - Represents Heavenly realms and the presence of a King. Many toools of the ancient temple were of solid gold. Ancient Israel used gold extensively in temple decor. The Inner sanctuary was covered from floor to ceiling in hammered gold.
(My inner sanctuary in the Snowflake temple, where I go to study, is a closet.)
Frankincense - Rare spice used in the temple (Lev. 2:1; 4 and 24:7). Burnt with almost every sacrifice offered in the Jerusalem temple. Mixed with salt, the smoke became white and was seen as prayers ascending up to heaven. Recognized as a necessary ingredient or requirement for prayers to be heard and sacrifices to be accepted. It was impossible to perform temple ordinances as proscribed in the law of Moses without Frankincense.
Myrrh - Natural preservative. Genesis 37:25. Myrrh was also mixed with olive oil and other spices to be used for anointings in the temple. It was kept in a flask in the Holy of Holies. Formula found in Exodus 30:23-25. Christ was offered vineager mixed with myrrh as He hung on the cross.

Perhaps these wisemen put these items to use in the Savior's behalf. Can we give Christ those same gifts? Matt 25:40. Through the doctrine of the temple we can most closely approximate the example of the wise men. First, we obtain all temple ordinances for ourselves. After that, we - like the wise men - can minister and bring others into sacred space, the heavenly presence. We can help those who have passed on make worthy sacrifices of a sweet savor, made possible by stripes and tears, and stand in for them in offering prayers to the most High. We too can offer others an anointing with holy oil, accompanied by promises that transcend death, which they are free to accept or reject in the hereafter if they didn't have the opportunity while living.

Today I finished my Primary gifts and cards.

The gift bags have candy, a blanket, a fidget spinner,
mittens, and the Primary cards as shown below.

This is a review of all the lessons we have
had this year.

James and I delivered pumpkin bread to the Wilhelm's, Bishop Miller's family, and way out to Anthony's. It was my first time out to Anthony's. He was very appreciative for the bread.

We had bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwiches for dinner and then went up to see how the new TV works. It has a great picture.
We went downstairs to watch a Christmas movie: "A Heavenly Christmas," starring Shirley MacClaine, Kristin Davis, and Eric McCormick.

Light the World
Jesus taught: "That which ye have seen me do
even that shall ye do."
3 Nephi 27:21
No one else has provided a better pattern for living than Jesus
Christ. As we seek to emulate Him, we can improve our own lives and the lives of people around us.

My friend Christy says the temple feels like
going home. I agree.

Atonement
Hebrews 5:9
Jesus Christ
2Nephi 25:19; Mosiah 3:8
Alma 34:17-41
*What must we do to receive the full blessings of the Atonement?
*President Uchtdorf; "We need a strong faith in Christ to be able to repent...Faith in Christ will change our thoughts, beliefs, and behaviors that are not in harmony with God's will....Repentance means a change of mind and heart - we stop doing things that are wrong and we start doing things that are right."
*What happens if we do not exercise faith unto repentance?
(To be "exposed to the whole law of the demands of justice" means to suffer the full consequences for our sins and to forfeit the blessing of eternal life.)
*Why do you think prayer is an important part of exercising faith unto repentance?
*What does it mean to procrastinate?
*This life is the time for us to prepare to meet God. How would you explain this truth to someone?
*In Alma 34:31, what assurance is given to those who repent now?
*President Boyd K. Packer: "You need not know everything before the power of the Atonement will work for you. Have faith in Christ; it begins to work the day you ask!"
How does understanding this assurance help us?
DC 102:13-34
19-23, The president of the council renders the decision; 24-34, Appellate procedure is set forth.

Prepare the Way
Bishop Gerald Causse'
" As you invite your younger brothers to 'prepare the way,' you help the recognize and honor the sacred authority they hold. By doing so, you help them prepare their own way as they prepare for the day that they receive and exercise the higher priesthood."

It says there is an 80% chance of rain today but right now there are now clouds.

I am ready to go to town for tacos!  Instead James talks me into going to LaCasita for green chili burros. I really don't care for their tacos, but he's right, their green chili burros enchilada style are delicious!

I went to Walmart while James went to Home Depot. Afterwards we went to O'Reilly's Auto Repair to get him some brake pads for his truck.

This afternoon James and his partner Dave go out to visit Anthony on the Nicoll ranch. While James is gone I work on my July 6th blog post which is all about our day horseback riding so it takes an extra long time because I have so many pictures to post.

Well happy day! We did get some rain and because of the rain it cools down into the 60's and makes for a gorgeous day. James and I go out on the deck and read from "Lady Unrivaled." This is one of our favorite things to do when it rains.

We watched several movies today. I watched more than James did. I got in a couple of extras while he was gone and I was working on my blog. "A Christmas to Remember" starring Cameron Mathison,
"A Dream for Christmas," "My Christmas Love," and a new one starring Victor Webster and Catherine Bell, "Home on Christmas Day."

I love Christmas in July!
