Remembering is so important.
So many more than listed here lost their lives.

This is the prayer President Hinckley offered in General Conferences just a few weeks after this occurred:
"O God, our Eternal Father,    whose children we are, we look to Thee in faith in this dark and solemn time  please, dear Father, bless us with faith.  Bless us with love.  Bless us with charity in our hearts.  Bless us with a spirit of perseverance to root out the terrible evils that are in this world.  Give protection and guidance to those who are engaged actively in carrying forth the things of battle.  Bless them, preserve their lives, save them from harm and evil.  Hear the prayers of their loved ones for their safety. . . .
"O Father, look with mercy upon this, our own nation, and its friends in this time of need.  Spare us and help us to walk with faith ever in Thee and ever in Thy Beloved Son, on whose mercy we count and to whom we look as our Savior and our Lord.  Bless the cause of peace and bring it quickly to us again, we humbly plead with Thee, asking that Thou wilt forgive our arrogance, pass by our sins, be kind and gracious to us, and cause our hearts to turn with love toward Thee.  We humbly pray in the name of Him who loves us all, even the Lord Jesus Christ, our Redeemer and our Savior, amen."  (Ensign, Nov. 2001, 90).

Helaman 2:1-14
How do you avoid being deceived by the flattery of men?
Through the inspiration of the Spirit.  We must stay spiritually centered and remember what really matters.  (See "Why Way Do You Face?", October 2014 General Conference.)

GC: 'Whoso Receiveth Them, Receiveth Me' Elder Andersen
"We recognize the many good parents across the world, of all faiths, who lovingly care for their children.  And we gratefully acknowledge the families in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who are wrapped in the care of a father and mother converted to the Savior, who are sealed by the authority of the priesthood, and who are learning in their family to love and trust their Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ."

Today was high council Sunday in sacrament meeting.  Brother Justin Tregaskes and his daughter Kylie were our speakers.  Kylie is a temple worker and has been called to serve a mission in Peru.  She spoke on D&C 46:3-33.  We are never to cast anyone out of our public meetings or sacrament services.  We must recognize the needs of others.  "When ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are in the service of your God." Spiritual gifts are given so we can serve others.  Verses 11-29 of section 46 is a list of spiritual gifts.  Sometimes it takes others to help us recognize our gifts.  Give thanks for gifts and blessings.  I really liked Kylie.  She mention Veggie Tales, The Lego Movie, and Cinderella in her talk.  She talked about being kind and having courage, which is what Cinderella's mother tells her as she, the mother, is dying.

Justin Tregaskes of the Country Club Manor ward.  He reminded us about what our stake president ask us to do in the last stake conference.  We are to use Find, Take, Teach in our temple work.  Find names, take them to the temple, and teach others to do the same.  I helped Vickie and James has recently helped Brian.  We will continue to work on this as we do more research and try to get others involved.  He also reminded us that President Williams ask us to study "The Living Christ" and The Family Proclamation.  I am doing this in my personal gospel study everyday.  I am on sentence 16 on both of these documents.  I think that is about half way, or maybe a little less.  Brother Tregaskes spoke about keeping the Sabbath day holy and gave some personal examples from his own life.  He then ask us to ask ourselves: Why am I here today?
To deepen my relationship with the Savior.  Are our Sunday activities uplifting and strengthening our testimonies?  Reach out to the lonely.  Be examples of the believers.  Honor the Sabbath all day long.  Is what I am doing outwardly expressing what I believe inwardly?  It was a great talk!!

Today I had Tana Westbrook and Madison Deatherage in my class.  Denice Hall, their teacher, was sick today.  I also had Kacey, Curtis and Zemira.  I am not sure why Braylin wasn't here.  When I texted his mom she said everyone was fine.
The lesson today was about Jesus teaching the Nephites the Beatitudes.  I made this chart:
The kids in my class got a chart similar to this one to take home and work on.  If they bring it back completed, they get to
chose something from the treasure basket.

Curtis was awesome today.  He even helped with his favorite song, "Book of Mormon Stories", during singing time.
After church James drove Curtis and I to the Penrod's to see Braxton.  We gave him some cookies I had made and a Book of Mormon with a couple of Pass-along cards.  Curtis says he has known Braxton most of his life.  I am not sure why his family doesn't come to church.
I love this quote by President Uchtdorf

As I am working on my family history I am trying to come up with a clever way to display family pictures.  I found this:
I want James to draw one for me on the wall in the hallway,
but first I have to convince him it will look good.

Today was a wonderful Sabbath day except that an old permanent crown fell out of my mouth.  It is probably because I have had a temporary crown on the other side of my mouth for so long that I have been doing all my chewing on the side of the mouth where I lost the crown.  James helped me put it back in.  Sorry, no pictures.

Another beautiful sunrise

Alma 49:9-30
11 - Moroni had fortified the city Ammonihah.
12 - The Lamanites march towards Noah.
13 - Moroni had built forts of security around all the cities.
16 - Lehi was the captain over the city of Noah.
17 - The chief captains of the Lamanites had sworn with an oath to attack the city of Noah, so they did.
21 - The Lamanites were slain with an immense slaughter.
23 -  The Nephites had all power over their enemies.  All the Lamanite chief captains were slain and more than a thousand men of their armies.  Not a single Nephite was slain.
25 - The Lamanites return to the land of Nephi to tell Amalickiah.
26 - Amalickiah was exceedingly angry.
27 - He cursed God and swore with an oath that he would drink the blood of Moroni.
28 - The Nephites thank the Lord for delivering them from their enemies.
29 - Thus ended the 19th year of the reign of the judges over the people of Nephi.
30 - There was continual peace among them and great prosperity.

GC: "Whoso Receiveth Them, Receiveth Me" by Elder Neil L. Andersen.
I love the Savior, and Elder Holland

We have new neighbors.  I saw a truck driving around at the tree line behind our house.  At first I thought it was James but then I realized his truck was parked out in front.  James went down and spoke to the guy driving the truck.  He was a surveyor.  He said someone had bought the 290 acres behind us.  He put up a pink flag visible from my dining room window and left.  I don't like looking at that pink flag.  It is a reminder that all that I see is no longer open land.

Later James was running the chainsaw out back and I heard our doorbell ring.  At the door stood our new neighbors, Dave and Wendi Elkins.  They said they heard someone running a chain saw and so they came over to meet us.  I directed them back to where James was working and they drove their 4-wheeler around to meet him.  They are excited about the property but have not yet retired so for now they will be coming up on the weekends.  They seem like very nice people.  For some reason I am a little sad.
Sister Holland is awesome too!

For lunch today I fixed corn on the cob, asparagus, avocado, and a Rice-a-Roni rice and red beans combination.  Everything was delicious, including the rice and beans.

This afternoon I set up Skype on my computer in preparation for my Prolympian training.  James bought a log splitter from a company in Pennsylvania.  It cost $1,599.00 and he also bought an accessories for $80.
Montezuma's Castle

I read this quote today from an article in the Ensign by Elder Bednar: "Not shrinking is more important than surviving."  The quote is by Elder Maxwell after he found out he had leukemia.

This evening I read from "Discovering the Word of Wisdom", "The Seven Miracles that Saved America", and my current Fablehaven book, "Rise of the Evening Star."

We heard some sad news today.  A friend of James's, Kemp Farnsworth, passed away of a heart attack.  Kemp worked for James framing houses many years ago.  He was about 10 years younger than we are.

Here are a couple of pictures from Facebook that
brightened my day:

Alma 31:1-23
1 - Alma's heart sickens when he hears of the perversions of the Zoramites.
2 - It caused Alma sorrow to hear of iniquity among his people.
3 - The Zoramites live in Antionum.
4 - The Nephites feared the Zoramites would enter into a correspondence with the Lamanites.
5 - Preaching has a more powerful effect upon the minds of the people than the sword.  Alma wants to try the virtue of the word of God.
6 - He took Ammon, Aaron, Omner, Amulek, Zeezrom, Shiblon and Corianton with him.  He left Himni and Helaman in Zarahemla.
8 - The Zoramites were dissenters from the Nephites so they had heard the gospel.
9 - They had fallen into great errors.  They would not keep the commandments of God.
10 - They would not pray daily.
11 - They did pervert the ways of the Lord.
12 - The Zoramites built synagogues and had a strange way of worshipping.
13 - A stand to admit one person.
14 - Cry with a loud voice saying:
15 - Holy God we believe that thou art a Spirit.
16 - We are separated from our brethren and we don't believe their foolish traditions.  Thou hast elected us to be thy holy children.  There shall be no Christ.
17 - Thou hast elected us to be saved while others are destroyed.  We are not bound down to Christ.
18 - We thank thee that we are a chosen and holy people.
19 - Alma and his brethren are astonished beyond measure at these prayers.
20 - Every man went forth and offered the same prayer.
21 - The places was called Rameumpton being interpreted is holy stand.
23 - After offering up thanks they returned to their homes never speaking of God until the next week.

GC: "Whoso Receiveth Them, Receiveth Me" Elder Neil L. Andersen.

I cleaned upstairs this morning and worked outside in the garage.  The garage is looking better but we still have alot of stuff to put away.  I am mainly sweeping and putting things in piles to be put away.  Oh yes, I held a board so James could run it through the power saw.  Sometimes you don't have to have any skill to help.

James had a doctor's appointment with Dr. Moffat today to get a referral for a new C-pap machine.  He ask me if I would go with him and I said yes.  I made some menus for the week and got my shopping list prepared so i could count this as my weekly shopping. When you don't buy meat your grocery bill is so much less.

We got food at Panda.  I had the steamed rice and veggies again and James had Pacific shrimp and veggies with no rice or noodles.  Both we yummy.

I mailed a birthday card and the CTR necklace I got Aurora for her baptism today.  I hope she gets it before next Monday.

I love this.

Wildlife report: One squirrel.  He was a "super" squirrel though.

James was in charge of FHE.  We listened to two Ensign articles.  The first was: "Like the Widow of Zarapeth: The Miracle of Fast Offerings."  Here are a few notes I took: Give for your own welfare.  Giving decreases selfishness and increases spirituality.
The last was called: "My Journey as a Pioneer from India."  This was a pretty amazing story.  This man's first contact with the church was President Spencer W. Kimball and they remained friends until President Kimball's death.

We were in bed by 9:00.
