I love this picture of the prophets of this
dispensation.

Sheri's quote:
Richard G. Scott's talk in the April 2013 conference
is the bomb  He says:
"When we obey the commandments of the Lord and serve His children unselfishly, the natural consequence is power from God - power to do more than we can do by ourselves.  Our insights, our talents, our abilities are expanded because we receive strength
and power from the Lord  His power is a fundamental component to establishing a home filled with peace."
I want that power!

This morning I read from "Jesus the Christ", the New Testament Student Manual, all of the October church magazines, a Sunday School lesson, the Book of Mormon and the New Testament and a conference talk.  I am ready to face the day!

James worked on taxes and his Sunday School lesson today.  He is so nervous about this new calling.  He says he's never taught adults before.
I unloaded two boxes today that were full of my books I had taken to Chandler.  I found the Book of Mormon I had written my testimony in for Dawn.  I would like to give it to her while I am down in the valley this week.

We went out to go to the post office this afternoon only to see that my car had a flat tire.  James puts air in it but it definitely has a leak so he put in a plug.  Hopefully this will work!

Kilee Hunsaker was supposed to call today about washing windows.  She called around 3pm and by then I wasn't feeling like doing windows so I postponed until November 7th.  She wants to raise money to pay her phone bill and to buy a car.

I made chicken tacos for dinner.  They were very good, one of our favorite meals, except the cheese was a little old.

We read from our new book, "A Heart's Rebellion."  We love being together in our beautiful mountain home!

Facebook finds:
I want these!

Quote by Sheri:
"Just when all seems to be going right, challenges often
come in multiple doses applied simultaneously.
When those trials are not consequences of your
disobedience, they are evidence that the Lord feels
you are prepared to grow more."
-Elder Richard G. Scott

My eye and the bump under my eye are more swollen and red than ever so I called Dr. Moffat's office.  The soonest he can see me is tomorrow at 5pm.
James worked on taxes while I watched last week's "DWTS."
We also went to Stanford store to get a drink.  On the way back we stopped at the post office and parked next to Brooklyn and Arizona Carroll.  Arizona is 5 and yesterday in Primary she had lost her ticket.  The kids get a ticket at the beginning of sharing time and if they are reverent and still have it at the end of Primary they get a treat.  Arizona, or Zonie, had lost her ticket and I gave her a new one.  I sat behind her and knew she had been good the entire time.  Today when I saw her I reminded her that I had given her a ticket and she said: "Ok, now we are friends."
Brooklyn, on the left is Zonie's sister, and
Sadie on the right is her aunt who just came home
from her mission in Mexico.
James and I went on an amazing Razr ride this afternoon.  James called up two different bull elk, one had several cows with him. He was so proud of himself!
Ready for action
I got a phone call from Vickie today.  She said she saw on Facebook on one of Stacy's posts that we had sold our house and she was calling to congratulate us.  I told her I had mixed emotions.  I was glad to be out from under the financial burden but emotionally it was hard for me to let go of.

We had squach from Kathy Crane's garden for dinner this evening.  James fixed it three different ways.  One batch was steamed, one mixed with V-8 juice , and the last was deep-fried.  It was all very good.

We watched a Mystery Woman movie tonight starring Kellie Martin.

Vernon friends: Lynda Tanner, Sean Hunsaker
and Lorraine Vaught

"Your beliefs don't make
you a better person,
your behavior does."

I wanted to go on a Razr ride this morning but when we went out to the garage I noticed that one of the back tires was flat.  We went out on the porch instead.  While I read, James clipped and painted my toenails.  He's a keeper!

Bishop Miller's wife Ann gave birth to a baby boy this morning:
They named him Uriah Ellis Miller
Bishop's mother Debbie holding Uriah
while big sister Andyn looks on.
Andyn and Uriah
Katherine and Uriah
Hyrum and Uriah
Congratulations to the Miller family!

It rained most all afternoon and into the night.  James got a text and a picture from Paul of Oregon.  His wife Janelle got her elk.
 Janelle and her elk
Here is the elk she originally wanted but missed.  Someone else got him.
He's a big one!
I think both of these elk were shot near Nutrioso.
Paul asked James if he wanted some salmon that they caught in Oregon.  Of course he does!  We met Paul on the highway between here and Springerville.  James stood out in the rain and talked to him for several minutes.  I hope he doesn't get sick.  Thanks for the salmon Paul.

James worked on income taxes most of the afternoon.  He has to have four years of taxes done before October 15th.  I worked on my blog and paid some bills and then we watched two Hallmark movies.  One was about two people who get heart transplants from a couple who were killed in a car crash and left behind a little girl.  Of course they fall in love and are drawn to the little girl.  They get married and become like parents to the little girl.  It never says they adopt her, but I am hoping they did.  I am not sure if this was based on a true story or not.
The other movie was a Garage Sale Mystery: All That Glitters, starring Lori Laughlin.

This is a picture of Sister McAfee, the Primary
chorister in the Galveston 3rd ward.  They just
realigned ward boundaries in the Chandler West stake
and now, just before the Primary program, she
was put in the Pleasant 1st ward.  The Galveston 3rd ward lost
several of their children and their Primary chorister.
So very sad.
The kids loved her!

"Write down in a secure place the important things you
learn from the Spirit.  You will find that as you record a
precious impression, often others will come that you
would not have otherwise received.  Also, the spiritual
knowledge you gain will be available throughout your life.
Always, day or night, wherever you are, whatever you are doing, seek to recognize and respond to the direction of the Spirit.
Have available a piece of paper or a card to
record such guidance."
-Elder Richard G. Scott

If you haven't had some of Ruth & Kathy's homemade Jalapeno
Jelly you are really missing out.  It is delicious and we have looked forward to it every year since our move to Vernon.  Kathy is our neighbor and both she and Ruth have beautiful gardens where they grow their own peppers.

James left for the valley this morning but he was back again tonight.  He says if it's going to rain in the valley he may as well do his paperwork up here.  He brought home Burger House burros for Darrel and I.

I made a trip to town to do grocery shopping, stopping at Sonic for a cheeseburger.  It started raining around noon and rained all day into the night  It felt like a good evening to sit down and watch some TV and listen to it rain.  Courtney, to my dismay, won Master Chef.  Also tonight was the results show for last night's premier of Dancing with the Stars.  Last night Witney Carson and Alfonso Ribiero stole the show.  Alfonso played Carlton on "The Fresh Prince of Bel Air."  Jared used to do the Carlton dance.  He is also famous, Jared that is, for doing the "Lucy" dance to the "I Love Lucy" them song.

Cozy home in North Carolina,
the state my Strickland ancestors are from.

"Throughout the remainder of my life, I will seek to learn by what I hear, see, and feel.  I will write down the important things
I learn, and I will do them."
-Elder Richard G. Scott

 Happy 14th Birthday James!
James Hayden is smart, kind, fun, spiritual
and very loving.
I love him so much and I am so grateful to be his grandma!
We got to talk to him on the phone and wish him a Happy Birthday.

Grandpa James got up this morning and went elk calling.  Someone answered him.

 James's bugling partner.

We made a trip into town today to get my tire fixed.  It's nice how we can drop if off at Discount and come back an hour later and pick it up and no money is exchanged.  They have a great guarantee on their tires.  We went to lunch at the new restaurant that used to be The Maxwell House and then Bob's.  Now it's called The Rim.  It was pretty mediocre.

Back at home James put the tire back on my car.
It's so nice to have a man around the house.

We waited for it to rain all day, but it never did.  Adam called and said a hurricane was heading towards Phoenix.  I guess it pretty much destroyed Cabo San Lucas.  It's suppose to hit Phoenix either Wednesday or Thursday.  This time people are getting prepared.

Here is a picture our bishop, Bishop Miller and his sweet family:
Bishop Wes Miller, Ann,
Hyrum, Andyn, and Catherine.

This morning it was our privilege to go to the Gilbert temple with Kim and Sheri.  We attended the 7:45 session.  Sessions at this temple start every 45 minutes.  We saw some old Chandler friends while we were there.  Dale Willis checked our recommends as we went in.  Martin Kempton and Diane Lamb Davis were also there as temple workers.  What better feeling is there than to be sitting in the temple between two of your beautiful daughters.  The film we saw is brand new and has only been out a month.  We discussed various aspects of it on the way home.  I love the temple!
I also love these three!
After attending the temple James and I went shopping at J.C. Penney's where we bought James two new Sunday suits, two new pair of Sunday shoes, two purple ties, and a new white shirt.  He's going to be the best dressed high councilman in the Show Low stake.  We were so tired and hungry from shopping we had to go to Jersey Mike's for lunch.  Afterwards James went to work at the airport and I went shopping with Rowan for his birthday.  Before shopping I had to hold this cutie.
Lola Suzanne Lambson
Rowan and I went to the Lego Store in the Chandler mall to look for Harry Potter Legos.  We were told they no longer make them and we can't even order them online.  We looked around for awhile but the store was so crowded we decided to go to the Disney store and then to Barnes & Nobles.  Rowan had to make a decision between three Lego sets that he liked.
Treehouse, Cabin, or Seaside.
He chose the cabin and mountain set!
As we were checking out Rowan saw a small box which contained a Harry Potter wand so we got it too.

No visit to the mall is complete without a visit to the food court.

Sbarro's cheese pizza is big and delicious!
He ate every bite!
