Oct 2019 General Conference
"Unwavering Commitment to Jesus Christ"
Elder Dale G. Renlund
"Individuals who enter the Kinshasa Temple see an original painting entitled Congo Falls. It uniquely reminds temple-goers of the unwavering commitment required to anchor themselves to Jesus Christ and to follow the covenant path of our Heavenly Father's plan. The waterfalls depicted in the painting call to mind a practice that was common more than a century ago among early converts to Christianity in Congo. Before their conversion, they worshipped inanimate objects, believing that the items possessed supernatural powers. After conversion, many made a pilgrimage to one of the countless waterfalls along the Congo River, such as the Nzongo Falls. These converts threw their previously idolized objects into the waterfalls as a symbol to God and others that they had discarded their old traditions and accepted Jesus Christ."

"RWC": "The Holy Spirit is the key to happiness, and to lack the Holy Spirit is the source of misery."

I was ready for the book webinar this morning at 8. When it didn't start I thought maybe it was cancelled until I realized the rest of the country is on daylight savings time and it would be broadcast an hour later. My two favorites, Kathy and Kris present on Tuesday's so I always like to listen. They both said that on merchant fulfilled books they have the customer pay for the shipping. I am going to try to change the settings on my account so the customer will pay for the shipping. I bought six books today.

I helped James load the skidsteer tire into the back of the car so he could take it into town to get it fixed. He took the thank you card I wrote to Dr. Douglas for discounting my crown last week, and he brought back some hot and sour soup and three books that I had ordered.

We signed what are hopefully the final papers on our re-finance and then went outside to work. We are supposed to close on Nov. 14th.

I blogged for last Friday and Saturday, walked, and finished watching this week's episode of "Dancing with the Stars." It is so painful to watch Sean Spicer dance. He has so many people voting for him that he is never in the bottom two so the judges can't get rid of him. I can't bear the thought that he might go to the finals.

Sheri is so worried about Max. He is very unhappy right now. He hates going to school and says he wants to live at the cabin. I told her that was fine if it's what he really wants. She said she would talk to him. I never heard back from her. We are all praying for him right now. That he will be happy and feel like he is loved.

I looked for names for baptisms on the Family Search account but didn't find any. We may have to use someone else's family names when we got to the Gilbert temple on the 14th with Joshua and Evan.

General Conference
The Power of Sustaining Faith
President Henry B. Eyring
"In the priesthood quorum and in the family, increased faith to sustain each other is the way we build the Zion the Lord wants us to create. With His hep, we can and we will. It will take learning to love the Lord with all our heart, might, mind, and strength and to love each other as we love ourselves. As we grow in that pure love of Christ, our hearts soften. That love will humble us and lead us to repent. Our confidence in the Lord and in each other will grow. And then we will move toward becoming one, as the Lord promises we can."

James has caught seven mice in eight days in his "mouse bucket."

Teresa Smith, a sister who attends our ward in the summer time, has a sister lunch once a month on a Monday. Today is that day and I have not been to any of the lunch dates this summer. I promised I would come today.

I left a little before 10:30 and picked up my friend Catherine on the way. Catherine and I headed up the hill to pick up Jean Howard. Catherine immediately bonded with the husky dog on the porch. She used to raise, breed, and race huskies when she lived in northern California.
We visited with Tom while waiting for Jean to get ready. I think she forgot we were coming.
I introduced Jean and Catherine and we were on our way.
We arrived at Los Corrales in Show Low right around 11:30, the allotted time. We walked in with Sister Tesarek. There were 9 or so sisters already seated. We all sat at a long table which isn't really conducive for visiting except for those sitting around you. I sat between Catherine and Jean with no one across from us.

Catherine and I ordered the super enchilada plate and Jean ordered two beef tacos. She doesn't really like Mexican food.

When our food came out Catherine and I both said our own blessing on our food. Just as I took my first bite, someone announced that Teresa was going to say the blessing on the food. Michelle Tesarek looked at me and said, " Yes done there, you with the food in your mouth." I thought it was funny, and smiled.

For dessert Teresa passed around a container with blueberry yogurt covered pretzels. I took one tiny pretzel because that was what she had done. No wonder she is so skinny.

These are the sisters who attended: Jean, Catherine, Michelle T., Rosie L., Amy R., Kim A., Barbara A., Teresa S., Charlotte S. and her son, Paula J., and myself.

I took James half of my food home and he seemed to really appreciate it even though he had already had lunch.

I spent the afternoon doing those things I normally do, walking, working on books and blogging.

This evening James and I watched the newest Hallmark movie.

Love that this movie was filmed in Ireland

Bountiful, Utah temple

3 Nephi 29:1-30:2
Make a list of some of the Savior's characteristics you consider to be most important.  Take a personal inventory of your own life with regard to these characteristics and formulate a plan to better fulfill His mandate to be "even as I am." (3 Nephi 27:27)

GC:      "Emmissaries to the Church" by Elder Jeffrey R. Holland
Brethren, in the best of all worlds and in those circumstances where it can be done, a monthly visit in each home is still the ideal that Church would strive for.
"Leaders should do their best to use the resources they have available to watch over and strengthen each member."

After my morning gospel study and prayers I go into the bedroom and blog and watch a Christmas movie.  Today the movie was, "Single Santa Seeking Mrs. Claus."

After I finished blogging I showered and got ready to go to town with James.  Our plan was to go to Sal and Teresa's for lunch and to see our friend Charlotte who works there.  Sal and Teresa's is by Cal Ranch.  James wanted to make a quick trip in there to look for an ash bucket for the fireplace.  He has burned holes in three and says if he gets the right kind that won't happen again.  I went to look in the dollar store and said I would meet him at Cal Ranch.  When I got to Cal Ranch I saw James talking to Matt and Mary, friends from high school and who also live in Vernon.  At first I was going to avoid them and then I thought better of it.  The reason I wanted to see Charlotte today was to do a little missionary work.  I thought about it and realized that maybe the Lord wanted me to talk to Matt and Mary. James ran into their fence a couple of years ago and Matt was so nice about it.  They are not members of the Church and we definitely need to be more friendly.  They are such nice people.  We talked for at least 30 minutes.  They are spending the winter in Tucson.  Mary is having some tests to determine whether she has cancer or not. I hope not.  We wished them well and said our goodbyes.
Matt and Mary

When we finally got to Sal and Teresa's they were very busy because it is taco Tuesday.  We saw Charlotte but we did not get to talk to her.  On my missionary list I have several names that I pray over.  Mary is on that list and so is Charlotte.
As we were leaving Sal and Teresa's we met a friend from high school, LaDon.  She helped a great deal with our high school reunion this summer and I was grateful for the opportunity to tell her thank you!

Sedona

After lunch we went to Walmart and Home Depot.  On the ride back home I read from "Justice of Affliction."  Back at home I watched last night's episode of "Dancing with the Stars."  Next week is the finale and this is who is left: Calvin Johnson, better known as Megatron, and Lindsey, Gleb and Jana, the country singer,  Laurie, the Olympic gold winning gymnast, and Val, and Sharna and the race car driver, James.  I like all of the finalists but don't want Gleb and Jana to win.  It should be either Laurie and Val, or Sharna and James.

Jared, thanks for the pictures from San Antonio!

James and I watched a new movie starring Erin Krakow, "Finding Father Christmas," and then went and sat by the fire to read.

Quote by Sheri:
"Just when all seems to be going right, challenges often
come in multiple doses applied simultaneously.
When those trials are not consequences of your
disobedience, they are evidence that the Lord feels
you are prepared to grow more."
-Elder Richard G. Scott

My eye and the bump under my eye are more swollen and red than ever so I called Dr. Moffat's office.  The soonest he can see me is tomorrow at 5pm.
James worked on taxes while I watched last week's "DWTS."
We also went to Stanford store to get a drink.  On the way back we stopped at the post office and parked next to Brooklyn and Arizona Carroll.  Arizona is 5 and yesterday in Primary she had lost her ticket.  The kids get a ticket at the beginning of sharing time and if they are reverent and still have it at the end of Primary they get a treat.  Arizona, or Zonie, had lost her ticket and I gave her a new one.  I sat behind her and knew she had been good the entire time.  Today when I saw her I reminded her that I had given her a ticket and she said: "Ok, now we are friends."
Brooklyn, on the left is Zonie's sister, and
Sadie on the right is her aunt who just came home
from her mission in Mexico.
James and I went on an amazing Razr ride this afternoon.  James called up two different bull elk, one had several cows with him. He was so proud of himself!
Ready for action
I got a phone call from Vickie today.  She said she saw on Facebook on one of Stacy's posts that we had sold our house and she was calling to congratulate us.  I told her I had mixed emotions.  I was glad to be out from under the financial burden but emotionally it was hard for me to let go of.

We had squach from Kathy Crane's garden for dinner this evening.  James fixed it three different ways.  One batch was steamed, one mixed with V-8 juice , and the last was deep-fried.  It was all very good.

We watched a Mystery Woman movie tonight starring Kellie Martin.
