Build a Fortress of Spirituality and Protection
Elder Ronald A. Rasband
"When we build a fortress of spiritual strength, we can shun the advances of the adversary, turn our backs on him, and feel the peace of the Sirit. We can follow the example of our Lord and Savior, who, when tempted in the wilderness, said, 'Get thee behind me, Satan.' We each have to earn by the experiences of life how to do that."

Sold two more books this morning!

After morning gospel study and doing a little blogging, I listened to the book business webinar which featured six figure leaders, Kris and Kathy, two of my favorites. It was a good session in spite of the fact that Kathy kept osing her internet connection.

After the webinar I got ready to go to lunch with my friend Jean.
I arrived at Jean's around 11. We had to wait for Tom to get home to give Jean some money. Jean loaned her credit card to one of her granddaughters and that's why she needed money from Tom. He gave her $40. Jean said, "I don't need that much," and Tom said, "You might want to buy Karen's lunch too."

Jean wanted to check to see if Mountain Thai was open so we went to Lakeside. It was raining pretty hard so I was a little relieved when Mountain Thai wasn't open because I forgot my umbrella.

On to Native on the other side of Show Low near Licano's. No rain in Show Low. Jean and I each ordered a salad and five wings to share and then Jean ordered a salad to take home to Tom. Long story short, I ended up paying over $13 which was fine because I had planned on paying for my lunch anyway. Jean is always doing things for everyone else and she was a little embarrassed to come up short but I told her not to worry.

This afternoon I helped James place an ad on Craigslist for our cemetery plots. He couldn't figure out how to do it. He and computers just don't get along very well.

I made lemon brownies for a snack/dinner today. James loved them, I liked but not as much as he did.

We got a little bit of rain and a lot of humming birds today. James has to fill the feeder just about everyday.

This evening we watched the latest episode of "The Good Witch."

This is Mr. Carl. Tanner has spent the summer working with him on his little farm. He is 93 years old and has been outside working right alongside Tanner. Even on the hottest of days! In just a couple of months Mr. Carl has imparted more wisdom to tanner than I probably could in a lifetime. They've become the best of buds. It makes my heart so happy to hear all the stories at the end of the day. Of all the experiences Tanner will have in his lilfetime, I know he will always treasure his time with Mr. Carl.

Charlie is watching something!

"Trials are not to destroy us but to sanctify us,
to help us become more Christlike, more loving,
more forgiving, and more optimistic."
-Ardeth G. Kapp

This morning when it came time for my exercise I was torn because I needed a nap.  What to do?  Nap of course!
When James is out of town I look forward to his morning and evening texts declaring his love for me.  It makes my day.

I listened to a program on the Mormon Channel radio done by young women and Julie Bagley a member of the Young Women's General Board.  It was about dress and appearance and dressing modestly, using the guidelines in For the Strength of Youth.

Paul went to the dentist today because he was in alot of pain and has been for awhile.  Dr. Douglas immediately sent him to an oral surgeon where he had two teeth extracted while he was awake.  Afterwards he went back to work.  Now that's dedication to your job!

I got a text from Jared today.  He and Anna and James are going to be here on the 9th of August and want to do baptisms at the temple.  He went on Family Search today and found a bunch as he said, of Strickland family names to do.  That is great!  I am excited that they will be a part of our ward youth group when we go to the temple.

Kathy Crane came by this afternoon to bring me a flyer about Vernon Days at the park this Saturday.  While we were on the porch we noticed a huge moth.  I texted a picture of it to James and he says it's a sphinx moth.  It was very beautiful but looked like it might be in pain.  When I got up this morning to check on it, it was gone.  It either flew away or a bird ate it.

In other "wildlife" news, the hummingbirds ate all of the 'nectar' James gave them on Saturday.
Bone dry.

Trina sent met this picture of Lola and I just had to share it both on Facebook and on this blog.  She is such a precious baby!

I spent most of the afternoon paying bills, both business and personal.  I can't complain though because it was after 9pm when James texted me and said he just got home from work.

I watched Master Chef before going to bed this evening.  I love this show.  Christine went home.  Gordon Ramsey had his wife Tana as a special guest for a romantic dinner.  Quite beautiful.

I love this quote so I'm using it as my thought for the day.

It's always nice to have James home.  He went down this morning and tried to light the hot water heater but it wouldn't stay lit so I went upstairs to take a shower.

James's main focus today was to get the bill ready for Hatch Hanger so we can collect some money.  It took most of the day.  He got it emailed late in the day which probably means we won't get paid until next week.

James went downstairs this afternoon and tore out the drywall in the hot water heater room ceiling where the paint was bubbled up to try and find the leak but he didn't have any luck.  There is no leaking in our bathtub or shower.  Now he thinks maybe the water came in when it rained.  Why is it so difficult to solve this problem.  He also thinks the hot water heater is totally unrelated to the leak.  I don't know what to think.  We also found more water in the years supply room closet.  We had to pull up the carpet and put a fan and a heater to dry everything out.  Also James said he vacuumed a ton of water out of the pad.  There was also some water in the closet off the downstairs bathroom.  I cleaned out all the wet boxes and threw them outside.  Later James took them out to burn them along with some brush he was burning.

James made us steak and broccoli for lunch using the leftovers in our refrigerator.  We sat out on the porch and read from Blackmore and watched the clouds build up and the hummingbirds fight over the feeder.
Sheri called this afternoon.  The side fence of their backyard came down today.  The surveyors will pay to build her a new one.  Someone is building next to them and discovered the fence was actually on their property.  How sad.
This sounds much worse than our fire.

This morning's sunrise.
Hummingbird's at our feeder.
Well I just thought the cows were getting the message.  I started chasing them away at 6 am.
It was nice to have scripture and prayers with James this morning.  I also read Elder Craig Cardon's conference talk: "The Savior Wants to Forgive."
Sad news today for President Monson and his family.  His wife, Frances Monson, passed away this morning.  She was 85 years old.
James and I went to Show Low today.  He had a meeting with Aaron and Andrew Horne at Horne Automotive.  While he was meeting I went over to KMart to look around.  I bought a few items and waited in line at least ten minutes.  Of course James had to go to C-A-L to buy more primers.  We looked at the baby chicks while we were there.
James wants some of these.
We had lunch at LaCasita and then I went to Walmart while James went to Home Depot and Lowes looking for light bulbs.
On the way back to Vernon I took a picture of this awesome tree.  Thanks James for stopping!
We read from "The Grecian Princess" and took a nap when we got home.  I got a call from Stacy.  Dallin is singing at seminary graduation this Sunday.  He is singing "Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing."

I wish I could do something to get rid of James's back pain.  He is in such pain it is difficult for him to enjoy anything.  In the morning we sat out on the porch off of our bedroom and read and took pictures of the humming birds and watched it rain.  It was one of my favorite ways to spend a morning here.
Two birds like our feeder.  One of them is a bully and chases the
other one away.
This guy is the bully.
How many pictures of a hummingbird can we take?
They are more fascinating in real life.
Here is my picture of the rain.  Hopefully something
green will grow where all that dirt is.

This afternoon we drove into town to get some lunch.  James wanted to stop at La Casita but it was raining so hard we drove on up to El Rancho in Pinetop.  It was still raining, but not nearly as hard.  We both had green chili burros.  I wish we could give them The Burger House's receipe so they could make them for us.

I watched Misty May Treanor and Kerri Walsh win their first set of beach volleyball in the Olympics.  I think these girls are unbeatable.  I would like to design them something a little more modest to wear.

James and I watched a cute modern take on the Jane Austen move "Sense and Sensibility."  This one was called "Scents and Sensibility."  James thinks the producer must be LDS.  I am no so sure, but we both liked it.
