Rachel, Dennis, Peg, and Denise visiting
Amy in Philadelphia.
I met Amy when I went to Nashville with my mom, and
Dennis and Denise.  She is Denise's niece.

Scripture study:
Alma 22:27-23:7
27 - The King sends a proclamation throughout the land.
Religious freedom is proclaimed.  The Lamanites in 7 lands and cities are converted.  They are called Anti-Nephi-Lehies and are freed from the curse.  The Amalekites and Amulonites reject the truth.
Alma 23
1 - Let the missionaries preach the gospel throughout the land without harming them, says the King.
3 - . . . that the word of God might have no obstruction. . . . that the people would be convinced of the wicked traditions of their fathers.
4 - Aaron and his brethren establish churches throughout the land and teach the word of God and have great success.
5 - Thousands were brought to the knowledge of the Lord.
6 - . . . as many of the Lamanites as believed in their preaching, and were converted unto the Lord, never did fall away.
7 - They became a righteous people; they did lay down their weapons of their rebellion, tat they did not fight against God any more, neither against any of their brethren.

Book of Mormon Student Manual
Alma 22:18 "I Will Give Away All My Sins To Know Thee".
We to must be willing to sacrifice all things to be born of God.

Missionary work in our ward is hindered because people can't live the Word of Wisdom.  Ellen Kostuziak, Jerry Corter, and Frank Westbrook.

I listened to two conference talks today, Elder Kearon's about the refugees and Elder Oaks on opposition.

I got a call from my friend Charlotte Mattice today.  She has so many problems that I can't even imagine what her life must be like. She has no teeth so she is limited as to what she can eat.  She co-signed for her son's car and he is not making the payments so she is having to make them.  Something is wrong with her plumbing and she has to haul water to flush her toilets.  Also, none of her kids, except one will speak to her.  I am going to put her name on the temple prayer roll. Oh yes, and she lives alone and her little dog is the only company she has.

This afternoon I met Vickie and her granddaughter Madison at Aunt Gene's in Show Low.  We had a nice visit.  Aunt Gene is 88 years old and is just as lucid as ever.  She does need to turn her hearing aid up though.  Aunt Gene said she got a call from the Arizona Highway magazine asking her where Gobbler's Peak was.  She said she didn't know why they would call her.  I reminded her the story that they did on grandpa years ago and Gobbler's Peak was mentioned.  It is in Nutrioso.

Aunt Gene, Rita and I are going to make a trip to the Eagar and Nutrioso grave yards to take pictures of relatives graves.  Aunt Gene is going to get with Rita and come up with a time.

On the way home I stopped at Panda and picked up a couple of teriyaki bowls to take home for dinner.

James broke his fast and ate his and then cooked some eggs to go with his rice that he had left.

For FHE tonight we read the story "Fly-Fishing and Family."  It was the highlight of my day.  Also James fixed me some Pero to drink.

The Good Ole War concert at Kim and Brian's was a big success.  Everyone went except Darrel and his kids, Molly, and Emmy, and James and I.  They even came early to hear Joe and Michael sing and they stayed afterwards and visited with everyone.  Kim bought all the boys a T-shirt afterwards.

Good Ole War,
brother Dan and Keith.
Two talented boys
Hobnobing with the "Stars"
Kim and Brian got a huge fan for the backyard.
They also had tons of food!
It was a wonderful treat for the family.
Jared said Anna even liked it.
I am sorry we missed it.

California hillside after the rainy season.

For my study in Preach My Gospel I read 2 Nephi 28.  Here are some of the verses that especially meant something to me:
14 - . . . they have all gone astray save it be a few, who are the humble followers of Christ.
24 - Wo be unto him that is at ease in Zion!
26 - Yea, wo be unto him the that hearkeneth unto the precepts of men, and denieth the power of God, and the gift of the Holy Ghost!
Repent, and come unto me!

My daily study of the Book of Mormon:
Mosiah 21:9-27
9 - Great mourning among people of Nephi.
11 - Because of the cries of the widows, the remainder of the people of Limhi are angry with the Lamanites.  They go to battle and suffer great losses.
12 - Went for the third time and suffered losses again.
13 - AND THEY DID HUMBLE THEMSELVES, submitting to the yoke of bondage.
14 - And they did humble themselves even in the depthis of humility; and they did cry mightily to God; yea, even all the day long did they cry unto their God that he would deliver them out of their afflictions. ( Humility fortifies our dependence upon the Lord.)
15 - The Lord was slow to hear their cries because of their iniquities.  The Lord did soften the hearts of the Lamanites.
22 - Ammon comes from Zarahemla.
24 - Limhi filled with exceeding great joy.
27 - Limhi's people find the Jaredite record.

I usually eat breakfast when I get up, sometime between five and six.  Today was no different.  Later in the morning James made steak and gravy.  Of course he brought me some into the bedroom where I was working on the computer.  I couldn't resist.

While I was ironing I listened to the talk by Elder and Sister Renlund that they gave at BYU Women's Conference.  Thanks Jared for posting it on Facebook.  The theme for women's conference was "One in Charity."  I especially liked the idea that "charity leads to unity, and unity leads to charity."  Another quote I liked: "Charity is a consequence of conversion."  I want to go back and listen to Marvin J. Ashton's April 1992 General Conference address, "What is Charity." Oops! The name of the talk is: "The Tongue Can Be a Sharp Sword."
One last quote: "Increasing our Sabbath day observance will increase our charity."

I got a call from my friend Charlotte Mattice this afternoon.  Also talked to Stacy about Jared Ammon.

I fixed a late lunch for James and Adam since we had a late breakfast.  We had: Pork chops with stuffing, asparagus salad, rolls, cranberry sauce and apple sauce.  Adam says he doesn't usually care for pork chops but he loved these!

After lunch the two guys go in to town to get more plywood for the roof of the storage shed.
We had some dark clouds today and Adam said it hailed on him, but James said he never felt the hail.  Weird.

On worked on Primary preparation and my blog this afternoon.  I also said a prayer as I went upstairs to look for my mom's memory book.  I didn't find it but later while I was in the kitchen I decided to go look on the shelf in the living room where I have several photo albums.  There it was!  I said a prayer of gratitude.  I also found my mother's birth certificate and baptismal certificate and James and my marriage certificate.  It was a good day.

I wasn't going to fix dinner because we had such a big lunch, but I decided to make stirfry because I had mushrooms, celery, onion, and snow peas.  I also added a little ham.  James loved it.  For dessert I made strawberry shortcake.  Since we are going to be gone the rest of the week, I am trying to clean out the fridge.

For FHE we listened to President Eyring's talk, "Where Two or Three are Gathered."  In his talk he talks about the Parable of the Sower.  I love this parable and the symbolism.

After FHE James and I watched "The Good Witch" and then went to bed.  Adam went upstairs to watch "Castle".

Christlike Attribute:
"Charity"
I forgive others who have
offended or wronged me.
Ephesians 4:32
I try to understand others
and their point of view
Jude 1:22

James went to the hospital this afternoon for a cats scan.  He won't know the results for several days.  We finished our book, "Longing for Home."  Although it had some very sad elements to it, the ending was good except for one small detail: we never found out what happened to the bad guy.

James did some things for me today.  He put the carpet back in place downstairs in the storage room/closet where we had the flood.  He also did some edging around the front of the house.  It look's so much better!

While paying bills today I listened to a BYU devotional talk by Elder Donald L. Hallstrom entitled: "The Heart and a Willing Mind."  I went online and downloaded it because it was so good!

James went out elk calling this afternoon.
A bull and his harem

Here are some of the things I accomplished today:
I called my friend Charlotte Mattice and wished her a happy birthday.
I made a doctor's appointment with Sheri's doctor, Dr. Allen for November 10th.
I made a visiting teaching appointment with Mary Swift for tomorrow afternoon.

This evening James and I watched an episode of Sue Thomas.  It was the one where Bobby goes undercover as an Elvis impersonator.
Trina went to work today for the first time since
Lola was born.  These two are together most of the time
so I am sure it was quite a shock for both of them.
Darrel did say that Lola did pretty well all things considered.
