Portland, Oregon
42nd operating temple
Dedicated: 19-21 August 1989 by
Gordon B. Hinckley

Alma 12:1-19
* When has the Holy Ghost helped you recognize and avoid temptation?
* Elder David A. Bednar: "Spiritual understanding...simply cannot be given to us.  The tuition of diligence and of learning by study and also by faith must be paid to obtain and personally 'own' such knowledge.  Only in this way can what is known in the mind also be felt in the heart."
* The Lord reveals spiritual truths to us according to the heed and diligence we give to His words.
* What is the relationship between the condition of our hearts and our ability to receive spiritual truth?
* We will be held accountable before God for our thoughts, words, and actions.
DC 84:89-102
92-97, Plagues and cursings await those who reject the gospel; 98-102, The new song of the redemption of Zion is given;
What shall be the song that we sing?
* A new song concerning the redemption of Zion and the restoration of Israel.
General Conference
Our Father's Glorious Plan
Elder Weatherford T. Clayton
"In a grand premortal council, Our Father told us about His plan.  When we understood it, we were so happy that we shouted for joy, and 'the morning stars sang together.' That plan is built upon three grand pillars: the pillars of eternity.  The first pillar is the Creation of the earth, the setting for our mortal journey.  The second pillar is the Fall of our first earthly parents.  The third pillar is the Savior Jesus Christ and His Atonement."

I added a new dimension to my scripture study as a result of President Nelson's conference address.  I am studying all of the scriptures under Jesus Christ and the 57 subheadings under his name in the topical guide. Today I studied the scriptures in Matthew, Mark, and Luke regarding the Savior's transfiguration.  I am also making a notebook with scriptures referring to the Atonement to contemplate during the Sacrament.

The herd was here this morning when we got up.  Our grass is trampled.  James is so sad.

We went to town to get a part for the tractor and to get the oil changed in my car.  James had to order a part and it won't be here until tomorrow.  I went grocery shopping but we didn't get the oil changed because they said it would take 2 1/2 hours.

We had lunch at Aliberto's.  My shredded beef taco was yummy!  I bought alot of extra's today during my shopping trip.  Three $50 gift cards for birthdays, goggles for the Razr, a sling shot to shoot cows with and a facial hair remover gadget, and the new Beauty and the Beast movie.  Oh, by the way, James loves his Harry's razor that I ordered for him.

We came home and watched the most recent episode of "The Good Witch" and then James went to try out the sling shot.
James worked outside on the fence until 4 p.m. He stopped and went over to the Howard's to work for awhile.  I chased away cows two times while he was gone. While I am sitting at the dining room table working on my blog and watching Beauty and the Beast, I look outside and see a calf rubbing up against one of James's fruit trees.  I grab my sling shot and go.  I am a lousy shot so I don't think she has anything to worry about.  I yell at her and she stares at me a few seconds and then turns and runs.  This plague of cows is really tiresome.

This evening I read a chapter about Solomon Mack from the Joseph Smith History by His Mother.  James works outside on the fence until 9:30.  He knows we are leaving for the valley in a couple of days and will not leave his trees and grass unprotected from the cows.

My view while riding in the Razr trying to drive
the cows away.  They look scared, don't they.

The Mountain Elk Burger at
Karen's Country Bakery.
(Maybe I should show this picture to the cows and say:
"This could be you!")

I love the Beast!
Especially when he sings
"Evermore."

June 21, 2013

James left early to go to work but he was back by 8:30 a.m.  I went to Walmart and Sam's to get gas and wash my car.  I bought a little car vacuum at Walmart and came home and vacuumed out my car and cleaned the leather.  I was getting ready for my lunch date with Karen Schneider and Charlotte Mattice.  I picked up Karen and then Charlotte and we drove to one of our favorite restaurants, Firebirds, for lunch.  Karen had also invited Jackie Hall but Jackie couldn't come because she was helping with a funeral.  I wonder if it was Glenn Huish's.
For lunch we ordered our favorite meal: coconut shrimp with salsa and coleslaw.  It's actually an appetizer but we make it our main course.  It goes wonderfully with their delicious sour dough bread and a chocolate sundae for dessert.  Karen just got back from Paris and London.  She brought me an oilcloth bag from Harrods.

When Karen and I went to England we each bought one of these bags so now I have two.  I enjoyed my time with these two friends and look forward to seeing them again soon.
I went back home in Chandler after lunch and took a nap.  After my nap I took a little shopping trip to Target.  When James got home this evening we went to dinner at Mimi's.  Isn't it interesting that many of my posts are about eating. Maybe that's because I enjoy it so much.  I had ravioli for dinner at Mimi's and it was delicious.  James talked to Gail on the phone.  Gail is here in town visiting.  He brought Seth down to Flagstaff to go to EFY.
It was only 106 here today.

We left for the valley around 7:30 this morning.  Before we left Alex went fishing. He caught 4 fish.  This one was not the biggest.
He rode the Ranger down to Chocolate Lake and found this guy.

When we arrived in Chandler our first stop was emissions control.  My car passed and I don't have to have it tested for another two years.  Next stop: Sam's Club for some good fillet steaks which we can't get at Walmart in Show Low.  At Walgreen's and Fry's we got a card and gift cards for Kris and Kristina.  On the way to the reception we stopped at Cheesecake Factory and I got a gift card for Darrel's birthday.
At the reception we saw: Cid Elmer, and most all of Gail's family: Heather, Ryan, Cheryl, Luke, Asha, Chloe,
Tim, Becca, Melanie, Val, Micah, Erik, Amelia, Aurora, Mabel, Oliver, Aaron, Kari, Anna, Katy, Sammy, and Beckham, and of course Gail, Jasmine and Seth.  I mostly visited with Cathi, Terry, Laura, Dave, Lois, Dawn, Rebecca, and Brent.  Stacy and Paul and Joshua came and so did Darrel, Trina, Addy, Rowan, and Ruby.

After the reception James and I took Addy shopping for her birthday.  Sheri and Trina dropped Addy and I off at the mall while James went shopping for a new pool pump.  After shopping for awhile we got hungry and went to Paradise Bakery for a cookie.  We finally found something Addy liked at the Justice store, a necklace with a little red guitar.  Addy has a red guitar and she loves it.  Grandpa picked us up from the mall and we all went over to Target Greatland.  It took Addy awhile but she finally picked out a "Target" Barbie.  With a red target bag and everything.

Grandpa was so happy to be finished shopping.  Now for the important part of the date, "Sweet Tomatoes" for dinner.  James and I love their salads and Addy loves their macaroni and cheese and jello.  What a fun time we had with out sweet little granddaughter for her 8th birthday.  Next week we will be back for her baptism.
Before leaving for home Dallin and Michael serenaded us with the Good 'Ole War song, "Loud Love".
On our way back to Vernon James got stopped just outside of Heber.  The police officer said he was going 58mph in a 45 zone.  Luckily all he got was a warning.  We were home by 10pm.  We both have to give lessons tomorrow so we went straight to bed with a plan to get up by 5:30 to finish preparing.
