Christlike Attributes
#4
Virtue
Virtue originates in your innermost thoughts and desires. It is a pattern of thought and behavior based on high moral standards. Since the Holy Ghost does not dwell in unclean tabernacles, virtue is prerequisite to receiving the Spirit's guidance. What you choose to think and do when you are alone and you believe no one is watching is a strong measure of your virtue.

Sheri is on her way, starting at 4:30 a.m., to Utah to pick up Ben. She texted this morning to make sure her dad made it home safely last night.

James left for the stake center at 8:15 this morning. I watched stake conference at home in my jammies. I had a front row seat and was even able to take pictures! Here are some notes from stake conference:
President Alder:
Something I learned when I was a Deacon during a lesson on the word of wisdom. I need to make "the decision before the situation".
Such as I will never drink alcohol. I only have to make that decision once.
If I have a crisis of faith, I can be strong. A good example is Joseph of Egypt. He had integrity, honesty, and faith regarding his trials.
What did the Lord do to prepare us for the pandemic?
-Ministering, CFM, new children and youth program. The Lord will never forsake us or this Church.
I will not have a "crisis of faith"
God has a plan for each of us.

Paige Flake/Sister Flake
Doing home MTC
Julie Beck in a talk in 2007 said: "A friend told her he never learned anything at Church he hadn't already learned at home. Home MTC brings the Spirit into the home. What I am striving to learn from the MTC: How to feel closer to the Spirit, gain knowledge so I can teach others. We prepare to fail if we don't prepare. We all need to become deeply converted disciples of Jesus Christ. We need to experience consistent daily learning as we prepare to take the gospel to the world. Be a good example, study the scriptures, pray for the missionaries, have the missionaries over for dinner. Read Preach My Gospel. Focus teaching and learning on the basic doctrines of the gospel. Have the daily influence of the Spirit.

Sister Beuss of the Scottsdale Mission
Are we loyal to each other, do we boost each other up? Do we listen, comfort, mourn, and pray for each other?
Matthew 22:37 - Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
38-This is the first and great commandment.
39-And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.
"I'm Trying to be Like Jesus"
D&C 59:5 - Wherefore, I give unto them a commandment, saying thus: Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, with all thy might, mind, and strength; and in the name of Jesus Christ thou shalt serve him.
Love God, seek Him and do His work. Sister Beuss then bore testimony of missionary work and the Book of Mormon.

President Beuss, Second Counselor in the Scottsdale Mission
President Beuss and his wife are from the Aspen ward in our stake.
There is a sparkle in missionaries eyes.
The Prophet has prepared us for this difficult time. We need to delve deeper into the scriptures. The Prophet continues to prepare us. Missionaries teach with the power and authority of God. He challenged each person to review their Family Mission Plan. If we don't have one he encouraged us to get one. He ask us to pray daily for the missionaries in our ward by name. Pray for missionary opportunities. Have courage to invite someone to hear the gospel.
Let us let our light shine and share with others.

Corrina Westbrook from the Vernon ward!
My Road to the Temple
Where are we going and why are we here?
Told a story of when she was 16 or 17 and was supposed to be at work in Alpine but instead picked up a friend and drove up the Escudilla Mountain. She got stuck and even though she had a four-wheel drive truck, she could not get out. She didn't want to walk home and she didn't think her 50 year old friend would be able to make it. She got out and went behind the truck and prayed earnestly telling Heavenly Father if He would help her get out she would be obedient and keep the commandments. She got back in the truck and drove out. Why are we here? Corrina shared her favorite scripture from Matthew 7:7: "Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:"
I started to listen to the Spirit. There are three voices in my head: 1)Go to Church - God; 2)Satan - You don't want to go, you look fat in that dress. Don't go. 3)My Voice-Heavenly Father will be pleased if you go to church.
Listen to the Lord's voice. I know who I am and why I am here. I am part of God's army. I will make good choices and stay on the straight and narrow path. I never felt worthy to go to the temple but a voice kept telling me I needed to get my recommend. I did get my recommend. To be worthy doesn't mean you are flawless. My Road to the Temple is my Road Home. I will learn of Jesus Christ in the temple. I love being a Latter-day Saint. I love Jesus Christ.

President Smithson
There is peace in Christ and hope in Christ. Faith, Hope and Charity are all gifts of the Spirit. President Smithson's friend had a son who was a deacon who passed away from bone cancer. The friend said this to him: "My boy no longer needs our faith and prayers. He is now healed." Safety is obtained when we put our Hope in Christ.

President Beeler
Malachi as quoted by Moroni - "And he shall plant in the hearts of the children the promises made to the fathers, and the hearts of the children shall turn to their fathers. If it were not so, the whole earth would be utterly wasted at his coming."
The rich young ruler in Mark 10 asked the Savior, "What shall I do to inherit eternal life? What lack I yet? The Savior said to him, keep the commandments, etc. (powerful precursor to the temple recommend interview). Sell everything and follow me.
Promises and Power in the Temple: Covenants bind us to Christ and Eternity. We are armed with power and authority. Eternal families are created in the temple. Broken people come seeking healing and answers. Our confidence waxes strong in the presence of God. This area has become a place of gathering and 19 1/2 years ago we got a temple.
Can the Savior trust me? He loves us the way we are but He doesn't want to leaves us the way we are. The doctrine of Christ is all about others. We have become a supremely distracted people. Let us not forget our purpose. We can do better. Temples must be opened and used. Temples elevate how we live our covenants. We need to love each other and show the Lord how much we love Him.

Tamara was in every picture because she was
in the choir:

Where is Tamara?

James indexed 300 names today. I am still trying to catch up on my blog. I also listened to all of the talks from the Saturday afternoon session of general conference. I loved Elder Rasband's and Elder Stevenson's talks.

This evening we attended "Come Follow Me" at the Goodman's with the Goodman's, the Peeler's, and the Crane's. Barbara B. is gone to Wyoming visiting her sister. It has been so long since we met that it took awhile for us to start because we needed to catch up on our visiting. We studied D&C 111-114 which includes the rise and fall of Thomas B. Marsh. After the lesson we had some of Barbara's homemade lemon pound cake which was delicious! She also had some brownies but I stuck with the pound cake.

Barbara G. gave us five delicious yellow bell peppers they grew in their greenhouse.

Bishop Hall and his family have bought Vickie's old house. There were 10 cars parked in front of it this evening. It will be nice to have the Hall's back in our ward.
