'They Cannot Prevail; We Cannot Fall'
Elder Chi Hong (Sam) Wong
Of the Seventy
Our dear prophet, President Russell M. Nelson, said in our last general conference: "During these perilous times of which the Apostle Paul prophesied, Satan is no longer even trying to hide his attacks on God's plan. Emboldened evil abounds. Therefore, the only way to survive spiritually is to be determined to let God prevail in our lives, to learn to hear His voice, and to use our energy to help gather Israel."
'Our Personal Savior'
Elder Michael John U. Teh
Of the Seventy
"What think ye of Christ?" I am realizing that how intimately I know the Savior significantly influences my ability to hear Him as well as how I respond. A few years ago, Elder David A. Bednar asked the following questions as part of his remarks: "Do we only know about the Savior, or are we increasingly coming to know Him? How do we come to know the Lord?"
P#2
He was the Great Jehovah of the Old Testament, the Messiah of the New. Under the direction of His Father, He was the creator of the earth. "All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made" (John 1:3). Though sinless, He was baptized to fulfill all righteousness. He "went about doing good" (Acts 10:38), yet was despised for it. His gospel was a message of peace and goodwill. He entreated all to follow HIs example. He walked the roads of Palestine, healing the sick, causing the blind to see, and raising the dead. He taught the truths of eternity, the reality of our premortal existence, the purpose of our life on earth, and the potential for the sons and daughters of God in the life to come.

James left around 7:15 for ward conference with Chuck. I worked on Saturday's blog post and was able to finished before it was time to get ready for church. The Tesarek's sat by the Halcomb's so we sat by the Wallace's. James said we were asked to say the prayers. Brother Grapp came by and said Sister Barton wanted to say the opening prayer so he asked which one of us wanted to say the closing. James was having problems with his voice but he persevered and was able to say a nice prayer.
Brother Patterson was back again today to have us sustain a new member to the high council. This new person is Brother Skousen's brother from the Wagon Wheel ward. David Eric Skousen.
The Umphress's were the speakers today. Bailey and Gracie were the youth speakers. Bailey spoke on the fourth Article of Faith and Gracie spoke on the third. They did a good job. Sister Umphress spoke on Elder Wakolo's talk, "God Loves His Children." Brother Wakolo shares three specific ways our Heavenly Father manifests His love for us, His children. First, relationships with God and family manifest His love, because our ties to them are eternal.
Second, He manifests His love to His children by calling prophets.
Third, chastening can be a manifestation of God's love for His children.
The Umphress's are a junior rodeo family. All four of their children ride horses. They have been traveling and have been in Texas recently. Sister Umphress stressed that they do most everything together, along with her parents. She said that being with her family is what makes her the most happy. A prophets voice can be a source of strength and inspiration. Homes can become personal sanctuaries of faith. Are we willing to receive chastening from the Lord? Your Savior is stronger than your sorrow. Our Savior is our truest and greatest friend.
Brother Umphress spoke on Elder Dube's talk, "Pressing Toward the Mark." What motivated Paul to keep his faith in spite of his trials?
Elder Holland welcomes Elder Dube. "His love and embrace warmed me up and helped me to feel the spirit of belonging, the spirit of brotherhood. Elder Dube's mother: "It is up to God if the pain goes away. Never give up!"
Brother Tesarek taught the lesson in Elders Quorum/Relief Society based on Brother Gong's conference address "Room in the Inn." Brother Tesarek was baptized a member of the Church six years ago today. He is an excellent teacher. He was prepared, he asked questions and got lots of participation, and I could feel the Spirit when he taught. Here are some notes that I took:
First we discussed the parable of the Good Samaritan found in Luke 10:30. We then determined what each part of the parable represented:
Road/Thieves - Our life; Traveler - Our life/others lives; Good Samaritan - Jesus; Inn - the Church; Inn host - me/you; Wine/oil - ordinances; Return to pay the bill - the Savior at the Second Coming.
Five Things we learn about Jesus Christ and His Church:
1. We all have something to contribute. We need each other.
2. He asks us to make His Inn a place of grace and space, where each can gather, with room for all.
3. Perfection is in Jesus Christ.
4. We become part of a gospel community centered in Jesus Christ.
5. God loves His children in our different backgrounds and circumstances.
This afternoon after lunch and rest time I came in to work on my blog and to index. While doing so I listened to a talk given by Sheri Dew at a Women's Conference when she was in the General Relief Society Presidency. Her hair was brown and she looked so much younger. I guess I did back in those days too. The basis of her talk was choosing the Savior's plan and Catching the Vision. "Where there is no vision, the people perish." Light is a key to vision. Improve vision by improving faith.
We FaceTimed with Jared, Charlie, and Kacey this afternoon. Jared told us all about the house they are buying and how it is a fixer upper. It closes on the 21st of June and they plan on moving the next week. Kacey is selling things on Facebook Marketplace. Just this weekend they have sold over $500 worth of "stuff."
Charlie was so cute. She wanted to see Luna so I took the phone out to James. She had on a princess shirt and we talked about the princesses. She also had an old Elmo that was popular before Tickle Me Elmo that Kacey had saved. This Elmo says the alphabet when you push on his stomach. Charlie just laughed and laughed. So cute. Charlie wanted her daddy to read her a story so we said goodbye. I so enjoyed Charlie this time!
James watered all of the trees he planted this afternoon and got lots of steps. My goal for Sunday's is to get at least 4,000 steps. I began listening to the talk Barbara Morgan Gardner gave at this year's women's conference regarding prophets. It was so good but I didn't finish but will finish in the morning. It was a wonderful Sabbath day!
5 grandsons in the picture. Sheri said Dallin was there too,
but no picture of him.
