"Behold! I Am A God of Miracles"
Elder Ronald A. Rasband
Of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles
As we celebrate the miracle of our Lord's Resurrection, as an Apostle of Jesus Christ I humbly pray that you will feel the power of the Redeemer in your life, that your appeals to our Heavenly Father will be answered with the love and commitment Jesus Christ demonstrated throughout His ministry. I pray that you may stand steadfast and faithful in all that is to come.
And I bless you that miracles will attend you . . . if it be the Lord's will. Look for these heaven-sent blessings in your life as you "seek this Jesus of whom the prophets and apostles have written, that the grace of God the Father, and also the Lord Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost, which beareth record of them, may be and abide in you forever." (Ether 12:41)
#3
We believe that through the Atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel.
Inklings
Emily's ending:
Lord, increase our faith (Luke 17:5)
Continually find peace and assurance in Christ
Have I heard the Lord speak to me?
Do I love Him with all my heart?
God is merciful and won't abandon us.
What have I learned in the past six months?
Were there days I heard his voice?
Invite the Spirit, positive affirmations, listen, respond.
Because the Spirit is with me mountains will flee before me. (Enoch)
Fast Sunday and fasting is difficult for me. James just takes it in stride. I think it's because of the discipline he developed when he was a wrestler and had to make weight.
I want to do better. I read Elder Shayne Bowen's talk, "Fasting with Power" again and took notes. My goal for fast Sunday is to fast from noon on Saturday to noon on Sunday. Today we are fasting for those who have lost loved ones: the Bowens, the Thomas's and the Willis's.
The first person we saw at church when we were walking up the sidewalk was Bishop Hunsaker. Next we saw Heather and Sean Bowen. Sean is off oxygen and looks like he feels well. None of them were sacrament meeting. Bishop took Sean and Heather down to see Sean's brother Chris who is being cared for in Phoenix by hospice. Chris has Parkinson and has had Covid and pneumonia. He is not expected to leave. We have a very kind and thoughtful bishop who loves to serve others.
Pierce conducted sacrament meeting today. Next week is General Conference but I'm still not sure when the sessions will start, either 9 or 10, and either 1 or 2. I think the Saturday evening session is at 6. Utah is an hour ahead of us right now.
We only had six members besides Pierce bear testimony. It might be because Brother Burkee said goodbye because he and his wife and moving to Texas and he took a trip down memory lane. James bore his testimony and talked about how he started out when he was young believing and through the years has come to know that the gospel is true.
Sister Skousen taught Relief Society using Elder Soares last conference talk, "Jesus Christ: The Caregiver of Our Soul."
I sat by my friend Catherine H. and after the meeting was over she gave me a dozen of some of the prettiest cupcakes I've ever seen.
Catherine says her daughter-in-law works at a bakery and she can decorate anything. Catherine had her make these cupcakes for me to
thank me for what I have done for her. I don't feel like I have done much but we are good friends and we enjoy each other's company.
Collin gave me my cake carrier that I left at his house. He told James that Wendy told him that the cake I made for her was the best chocolate cake she had ever eaten. I'm glad she enjoyed it.
Trina texted me this afternoon:
I have a weird question for you: My lesson today is on the priesthood, and it sounds so sexist. I never thought about it before because my generation wasn't raised like that but these girls, it's different. I feel awkward talking about men having the priesthood and women can be blessed by it. Any thoughts?
I texted back:
President Nelson has said priesthood power is just as important for women as for men.
When I work in the temple I work with priesthood authority. In initiatory whoever is doing the ordinances syas: "Having authority I bless you ...
President Oaks says sister missionaries have priesthood power.
I got out my book, "the Priesthood Power of Women...In the Temple, Church, and Family", by Barbara Morgan Gardner. I sent the following to Trina.
Because of the covenants you have made in the temple you have priesthood power in your home.
M. Russell Ballard: "When men and women go to the temple, they are both endowed with the same power, which by definition is priesthood power ... Access to the power and the blessings of the priesthood is available to all of God's children.
Dallin H. Oaks: "Imagine the strength of a Primary teacher when she realizes she can make promises to the children in her class because of the priesthood authority that she was given when she was set apart in her calling. Imagine the difference it makes for a mother to know that, as a nurturer, she has the primary responsibility of teaching the gospel in her home. Imagine the strength of a husband and wife, sealed together in the temple, when the two of them realize that together they have entered into the patriarchal order of the priesthood (the new and everlasting covenant of marriage), that each of them is a contributing partner in the creation of an eternal family, as co-equals, without one being the boss over the other."
Sister Julie B. Beck, former General Relief Society President:
"The priesthood is God's power. Don't confuse the power with the keys and the offices of the priesthood. God's power is limitless and it is shared with those who make and keep covenants. Too much is said and misunderstood about what the brothers have and the sisters don't have. This is Satan's way of confusing men and women so neither understands what they really have."
Presidewnt Nelson: "Nothing opens the heavens quite like the combination of increased purity, exact obedience, earnest seeking, daily feasting on the words of Christ in the Book of Mormon, and regular time committed to temple and family history work." The heavens are just as open to women as they are men.
This evening we FaceTimed with Jared, Kacey, and Charlie. Charlie was not feeling well and stayed home from church today. Jared told us about going to a ward that he is over as high councilman and finding another high councilor there. He was recently called just as Jared was. The only difference is this other councilman has only been a member for two years. He was sent to this ward to call a counselor for the Stake Young Women's, present her in sacrament meeting and then set her apart. This brother told Jared that when he joined the Church he decided he would do whatever he was asked to do, and here he was. Jared helped him set the sister apart. Since this was a Spanish speaking ward, or branch, the councilor asked if the sister wanted her blessing to be in English or Spanish. She said English. If she would have said Spanish, Jared would have set her apart. James told a similar experience he had when he was on the high council. He was asked to do the same thing, only with a brother, and he had never done it before, but was obedient and things went very well.
I told Jared and Kacey about Elder Wangsgard's song last week and how he could be a professional singer. I mentioned that he was from Niceville, Florida when Kacey said that her sister lived there. Her sister's name is Andry Collins. The next time I see Elder Wangsgard I'm going to ask him if he knows her.
When Charlie said goodbye to us she came up and kissed the phone and said I love you. We are so grateful that Kacey thought to mention to Jared that it had been awhile since they had talked with us.
I finished my indexing goal for the month. My goal was 2,100 and I now have 2,160.
