"Finding Refuge From the Storms of Life"
Elder Ricardo P. Gimenez
"This experience helped me realize that although our lives may at times be relatively smooth, the time will come for each of us when we will face unexpected challenges and storms that will push the limits of our ability to endure. Physical, mental, family, and employment challenges; natural disasters; and other matters of life or death are but some of the examples of the storms that we will face in this life."

My book balance today is $903.07. I spent my book time trying to buy books. After several hours I did manage to buy three. Books are high right now and there is not enough spread to make any money.

James left this morning after scriptures and prayer for the Goodman's. Pierce is going to fill his cavities in exchange for the work he did for him when he filled the trenches of his greenhouse.
Pierce also said he wanted to buy the small Cat. If James fixes a few small things Pierce will give him $10,000 for the Cat. That will pay for our share of the road and the cost of getting the Razr fixed.

Today was a beautiful day, although a little warm, around 82 for the high. There was no wind.

I went with James to town this afternoon to get a part for Brother Howard's truck. We stopped at the post office and mailed Olaf to Charlie and picked up a book that I ordered. I ordered a pizza on the way to town and we picked it up at Dominoes before going to Napa Auto Parts. Thin crust veggie is our favorite. If we had only had three toppings instead of five we could have saved $9.00. Next time.

We ate pizza and finished our Aunt Dimity book on the way home.
James went over to the Howard's and put the part on the truck. It was a simple thing that Erik told him could be the problem, and it was. Tom was so happy and grateful. The cost was $65.

At 4:00 we had a meeting with the missionaries via Zoom, Elders Mannute and Elder Powlak taught us the Plan of Salvation.

This evening James went on a ride and I studied, and walked while watching "Lark Rise to Candleford." When he got home he had some dinner and then I asked him to cut my hair, which he did.

New Testament: Review: "The Lord Has Called for Us to Preach the Gospel"

General Conference
Prepared To Obtain Every Needful Thing
Elder David A. Bednar
"If all you or I know about Jesus Christ and His restored gospel is what other people teach or tell us, then the foundation of our testimony of Him and His glorious latter-day work is built upon sand. We cannot rely exclusively upon or borrow gospel light and knowledge from other people - even those whom we love and trust."

Sister Shealyn Smith reported on her mission to the Indianapolis, Indiana mission. She said there were 8 things she learned while serving her mission:
1. Sacrifice - Love God and be willing to sacrifice with a broken heart and a contrite spirit.
2. Count blessings - Be grateful for the blessings you enjoy in your life and thank Heavenly Father for those blessings. Look at your blessings instead of your burdens. Your burdens may become your blessings.
3. Always rely on faith - Alma 32, faith is like a growing seed planted in gospel soil. Matthew 17 - We must have faith as a grain of mustard seed.
4. Knowledge - Seek and continue to learn. Ether 12:27 - weak things may become strengths. Rely on the Spirit to learn.
5. Patience and God's timing - Trust in the Lord and have an eternal perspective. Sister Smith learned to get along with difficult companions through patience and God's timing
6. Loving and serving God's children - Being exactly obedient requires us to listen to the Spirit. The Lord puts missionaries exactly where they need to be.
7. Listening to the Spirit - Sister Smith learned to recognize when God was talking to her. See Galations 5 for a list of spiritual gifts.
8. Rely on the Savior - "I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me." (Phil. 4:13). This is the scripture I relied on when I came down with rheumatoid arthritis. I call it "My scripture."
God loves us and wants to bless us.

Brother/Dr. Reagan of the high council was the next speaker. He said he brings a message of love from the stake presidency and then recognized that they are all with us today sitting on the stand.
He spoke on making our homes a place of spirituality and how we should not be lulled into carnal security.
He talked about no contention in our homes and he quoted the Savior from 3 Nephi 17:3 when he told the people to go home and ponder the things that they had learned.

The Star Spangled Banner was the closing hymn and then Rosa Westbrook gave the closing prayer. She is a sister from Mexico and she speaks with a spanish accent. I thought it was appropriate for her to give the closing prayer after singing the Star Spangled Banner.

Sister Becky Skousen gave the lesson in Relief Society from Elder Bednar's latest conference address, "Prepared to Obtain Every Needful Thing." Elder Bednar emphasizes a home-centered, Church supported curriculum and the importance of making our homes missionary training centers, family history centers, and training centers for preparing our children for the temple. It was a great lesson and we had lots of participation and lots of visitors.
Thanks to Anthony for setting up the microphone.

I had a nice phone conversation with Sheri today. I love talking to my children and I am so grateful when they call. We are worried about Max who is refusing to go to Church. I gave her some counsel on what she might do to avoid a confrontation with him.

Kacey posted this about Charlie:
We have thought a couple of times that Charlie was saying amen after prayer. Tonight Jared got halfway through his prayer and she started saying over and over again, very clearly, "Mamen." I think she was telling him to wrap it up. It was the cutest!!"

Charlie is growing up so fast and we would be missing these moments if Kacey wasn't sharing with us. I am grateful for all that she shares so that we feel like we are a part of Charlie's life.

 Love Scarlett's Sunday photos!

Finally fits in to the 6 month dress

Atonement
Moroni 8:20
And he that saith that little children need baptism denieth the mercies of Christ, and setteth at naught the atonement of him and the power of his redemption.
Jesus Christ, Antemortal Existence of
Ether 3:16
Behold, this body, which e now behold, is the body of my spirit; and man have I created after the body of my spirit; and man have I created after the body of my spirit; and even as I appear unto thee to be in the spirit will I appear unto my people in the flesh.
Alma 55:15-35
What can we learn from Moroni's example?
*We have to be in the world but not of the world. His Christian beliefs were always the basis of his choices. His only motivation in war was to save people, not to murder. It is possible to do what the Lord wants us to do without destroying others.
DC 123:1-17
What is the purpose of collecting documents of anti-Mormon oppression:
*To try to get help from government leaders. Because the Lord enjoined them to. "That the whole nation may be left without excuse before He can send forth the power of His mighty arm."
General Conference
The Power of the Book of Mormon
President Thomas S. Monson
"Because the Book of Mormon is true, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the Lord's Church on the earth, and the holy priesthood of God has been restored for the benefit and blessing of His children."

"Whether we reach our potential depends on whether our spirits govern our bodies, whether we prevail over 'the natural man.'
- Elder Terence M. Vinson, Ensign, August 2017, 50-53.

A rainy, gorgeous afternoon and evening. We went into town and had dinner at LaCasita. We both had green chili burros, enchilada style. We discovered they charge an additional $3.50 for enchilada style. That might be the last time we order our burros enchilada style.

The great thing about the rain is that it was not forecast. I had prayed that it would rain, and it did, clear into the night. It felt like Heavenly Father sent it just for me.

Jesus Christ, Advocate
Mosiah 15:8
And thus God breaketh the bands of death, having gained the victory over death; giving the Son power to make intercession for the children of men.
Alma 40:15-26
*What happens between death and the resurrection? (see Alma 40:21.) But whether it be at his resurrection or after, I do not say; but this much I say, that there is a space between death and the resurrection of the body, and a state of the soul in happiness or in misery until the time which is appointed of God that the dead shall come forth, and be reunited, both soul and body, and be brought to stand before God, and be judged according to their works.
*What do you think the definition of evil is?

The Voice of Warning
Elder D. Todd Christofferson
" A crucial element of the parental duty to warn is to paint not oly the demoralizing consequences of sin but also the joy of walking in obedience to the commandments. Recall the words of Enos about what led him to seek God, receive a remission of sins, and become converted: 'Behold, I went to hunt beasts in the forests; and the words which I had often heard my father speak concerning eternal life, and the joy of the saints, sunk deep into my heart.'"

I had lunch with Hailey, Braylin, Taylor, and Huntleigh today at Pizza Factory. I am Hailey's visiting teacher and I invited her and her kids before school starts next week. I was Braylin's Primary teacher last year and this year I am Taylor's. I just love this little family. Their dad is a rancher and they live way out in the middle of nowhere yet Hailey brings her kids to and from school everyday. Here are a few pictures of the family. A few days ago I posted a picture of Braylin with his pigs. Now I have photos of Hailey, Taylor, and Huntleigh.

This is Huntleigh. She did this to herself on the way home with
a permanent marker. Hailey says it will come right off with
coconut oil.

I couldn't resist posting another picture of Braylin.
He is such an amazing boy, with a winning personality!

Hailey and Taylor. Notice the Lone Star on the wall.
Hailey is a Texas girl. Taylor is such a hard worker. She helps
her dad around the ranch and I could tell today at Pizza Factory
how much her mom depends on her with Braylin being handicapped and Hunteigh only two years old. Taylor is
pretty amazing!

I love this family so much and I am a little sad that we don't see them at church anymore. Hopefully someday they will come back.

After saying goodbye to Hailey and the kids I headed to Walmart to do some shopping. It rained hard while I was inside but I was able to get my things in the car without getting wet. Then again it rained on the way home. I do love this weather!

After putting the groceries away I read to James from "A Lady Unrivaled" and worked on my blog.

More photos:

There are several reasons I like this photos.
The sheep look like they are posing in their parkas with
their little black faces sticking out.
I love seeing the clouds and the Matterhorn in the background.
I also love looking at the expressions on the faces of these
adorable sheep. Look at their feet, they look like they have boots on.

This picture reminds me of the sunflower field in
Vernon. I can hardly wait until they bloom.

I've never seen a cuter face!

I'm a sucker for these two!
