Happy New Year!

It was pretty quiet around here this morning when I got up.  I finished reading the General Conference talks for the third time and I finished reading the December Ensign and New Era.

May I share with you some of the meals that were served while we had company:  Brian did much of the cooking: Homemade macaroni and cheese, sausage gravy and biscuits, chicken fettucini alfredo, breakfast casserole, chili dogs, appetizers galore.  Darrel made tacos and some of the best steaks I have ever tasted.

Darrel and Addy played Five Crowns and Darrel won.  Then Addy played Kim and I and she beat us both.
The older boys watched episodes of The Office and played Rockband.
Michael loves playing the drums.
Rockin in the New Year with Rockband.
Alex, Joe, and Michael were trying to think of a name for their band.  I told them that I liked A King and Two Jokers.  Who will be the King?

Darrel and his kids were the first to leave.  I was sorry to see them go.  Darrel says he won't be able to come back for another five months because of rotations and work.
Rowan and his great smile!
While Darrel was here he read from his Jim Gaffigan book: "Dad is Fat."  One in awhile we would here him chuckling and then he would share what he just read with us.  Darrel helped Rowan put this together at one point when Rowan was bored.
I can't find the Mario that goes to this.
As Addy is getting ready to leave she tells me that she wants to read her scriptures more this year.  I told her if she just reads a page and a half of the Book of Mormon each day that she can read it in a year.  I am so excited that she has set this goal for herself.  Darrel and I also tried to encourage Rowan to read the Book of Mormon before he is baptized.  He will be 8 in August.

Before Kim and Brian leave Kim plays a couple of games of Hearts with the boys.
A rousing round of Hearts.

After everyone leaves it seems so quiet.  James and I are home alone again.  We watched two Christmas movies: "Naughty and Nice" and "Fallen Angel."  James really liked Fallen Angel.  We also started reading the Book of Mormon again.  We are reading a chapter a day and discussing what principals we learn.  I really enjoyed the discussion we had today.

Happy 40th Birthday to Kim!
Playing Rockband with the guys.
Brian fixed breakfast casserole for Kim's birthday breakfast.  Instead of using ham he used sausage and bacon and green chilies.  It was very yummy!  He showered Kim with gifts and in my estimation is a very thoughtful husband.  We gave her a giftcard to Cheesecake Factory.

James took Darrel's kids back to Chocolate Lake.  This time he takes the Razr, pulling a sled behind, onto the lake.
Ruby getting ready to go.
Rowan, ready for some action.
Razr on ice.
Addy going for a ride.
Can I just say how grateful I am to James for taking these kids out and showing them a good time.  He also took the older boys up to Negro Knoll and they saw 60 elk and then he took them riding down the pit in the snow.  He has spent so much time with grandkids this week and I am so grateful to him!

While James was gone with the kids I worked on my blog and caught up on some of my 2013 reading.  I finsihed Our Heritage, the Lorenzo Snow manual, and the Book of Mormon for the 8th time this year.

For most of the day we just hung out with family and relaxed.
Doing puzzles.
Watching a movie.
Addy and Rowan wanted to watch Iron Giant but Ruby wanted to watch Despicable Me2 again.  Addy and Rowan won so Ruby carried her movie upstairs, climbed up on her bed and went to sleep with her arm around it.  She missed all of the New Year's celebrations but at least she got a good night's sleep.

This evening around 6 pm. James and I went to a potluck New Year's Eve party at Collin and Wendy Dewitt's.  I took sausage stuffed mushrooms and some cheese bread.  The mushrooms were a hit, especially with Jimmie Applegate who asked for the recipe.  After a delicious potluck dinner everyone was directed to write the name of a famous person on a slip of paper and Wendy put them all in a bowl.  It was men against the women and we took turns drawing names and giving hints as to who we were.  The best was Mel Wilhelm who put James's name in the pot.  He acted like he was using a walker and said:  This guy hangs around Vernon and is on the high council.

Those attending the party: Us, the Dewitts, Mel and Ruth Wilhelm, Bishop and Denice Hall, Dave and Rosa Westbrook, Jimmie and Tamara Allegate, Blain and Diana Curtis, Brother and Sister Mayfield, Sean and Stefani Hunsaker, and Kip and Alicia Hunsaker, April Allen, Audrey Guerrero, Julie Wilhelm, the Vaughts, the Woods', the Peeler's, and Elder Boyer and Elder Westover.  It was a fun evening but we left early to get back to celebrating with Kim.

Back at home we played Five Crowns, ate cake and ice cream, and watched Darrel's fireworks show.
Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!

James made steak, gravy and biscuits for our New Year's breakfast.  This time he had to use round steak instead of venison.
During breakfast Anna, Emmy, and Addy played a game of Clue.
Not sure what Emmy is looking at.
So glad that Addy and Ruby got to play with their cousins.
Glad that James got to hang out with Joe, Michael, and Alex.
Eating is always a favorite pastime.
Tricia at the drums.  Rockband rocks!
Jared on drums.
Molly loves Darrel.  She calls him Ruby's Dad.
Emmy on drums.
James without a shirt on drums.
Before Jared and Trica left Molly and Ruby went outside to play in the snow.
Ruby's first layer.
Ruby's second layer.
Jared and Tricia were nice enough to leave their kids snow clothes for Darrel's kids to wear.
Molly ready to introduce Ruby to the snow.
Mollly wants to"snuggle."
Ruby is excited about the snow.  She loved it!!
There they go.  Molly kept saying to Ruby: "Be careful
now cuz it's slippery."
Ruby ventures out on her own.
Molly in her hat with her baby.
Molly on the Cat.
Jared left for El Paso today and Tricia and the kids left for the valley to visit family.  We certainly will miss them.  We had a great time with them while they were here.
The "big guys" ready for the snow.
Sean, Kilee, and Holly Hunsaker invited out family to go out with them to the pit with their snowmobiles. Grandpa James, Alex, Michael, Joe, Darrel, Addy, Rowan and Ruby got to go.  It's a shame that Jared's family missed out on this fun.  Maybe next time.
 Looks like Rowan and friends.
Rowan really wanted to build a snowman.

The kids had such a fun time!
Kim and Brian got here just as everyone got home from playing in the snow.  Darrel's kids were so happy to see them!
