Jesus Christ's Atonement
Matthew 20:28
Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.
Book of Mormon
Mormon 2:1-16
*What is the difference between sorrowing and sorrowing unto repentance? How can our sorrow help turn our hearts to the Lord?
President Ezra Taft Benson explained the nature of godly sorrow so that we might understand the sorrow that leads to cleansing repentance:"Godly sorrow is a gift of the Spirit. It is a deep realization that our actions have offended our Father and our God. It is the sharp and keen awareness that our behavior caused the Savior, He who knew no sin, even the greatest of all, to endure agony and suffering. Our sins caused Him to bleed at every pore. This very real mental and spiritual anguish is what the scriptures refer to as having a 'broken heart and a contrite spirit' (DC 20:37). Such a spirit is the absolute prerequisite for true repentance." (The Teachings of Ezra Taft Benson, (1988), 72).

4 Do not run faster or labor more than you have strength and means provided to enable you to translate; but be diligent unto the end.
5 Pray always, that you may come off conqueror; yea, that you may conquer Satan, and that you may escape the hands of the servants of Satan that do uphold his work.

That Your Joy Might Be Full
Sister Jean B. Bingham
" As I have studied the life and teachings of Jesus Christ with more focus, and committed 'The Living Christ' to memory, my gratitude and love for our Savior have increased. Each sentence of that inspired document contains a sermon and has enhanced my understanding of His divine roles and earthly mission. What I have learned and felt through this period of study and reflection confirms that Jesus truly "is the light, the life, and hope of the world."
Ancient scripture and latter-day prophets words written or spoken in praise of Him bear witness that 'His way is the path that leads to happiness in this life and eternal life in the world to come.'"

I got up early to finish preparing my two Primary lessons, "Winter Quarters," and "The First Pioneer Company Crosses the Plains." When I opened the blinds there were, in the dark, five bunnies eating the grass. It is 25 degrees outside.

As I was setting up my room this morning, Johnny, Curtis and their cousin Norma came in and set up chairs for me. Curtis told me about having to get up this morning to go milk their cow, "Hollywood."  I ask him why their cows name was Hollywood and he said, "cause she has black around her eye that looks like makeup and people in Hollywood wear makeup." He then proceeded to tell him she was so fat he could hardly milk her but she was short and he could look right over her.  I love hearing these stories!

The bishop got up and announced the agenda for our upcoming conference with the Show Low stake on Dec 9th and 10th. The visiting authorities will be: Elder David A. Bednar of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, and two Seventy's, Elder Cornish and Elder Heyman. James and I were surprised and happy to hear about Elder Heyman. He is our former bishop and stake president and friend from Chandler. How exciting! I hope he brings Dianne with him and we can get a picture with them.

Today was the children's Primary Sacrament meeting program, "Choose the Right." The kids sang out beautifully and it went so much better than I thought it would. Here are the songs the children sang: "As a Child of God," "Choose the Right," "Stand for the Right," "When I am Baptized," "The Wise Man and the Foolish Man," "I'm Trying to Be Like Jesus," (my favorite!), and "Nephi's Courage."  I enjoyed Bishop Miller's remarks at the end. He almost always speaks with a message from the Book of Mormon.

I had Sister Kuffer's class in with mine today. These are the children I taught: Jace, Curtis, Colter, Liana, Gracie, Bailey, Kacey, Talena, and Zemira.

During sharing time Liana told me that I was one of her greatest blessings and that I was the best Primary teacher she has ever had. Wow, I sure do love that girl!

During lunch James told me about what both Brother Peeler and Brother Wilhelm told him about us being the witness couple Friday night in the temple. Brother Wilhelm was the officiator and Brother Peeler the follower. First Brother Wilhelm said we were the cutest witness couple he's seen in a long time and that we had a light surrounding us. He also mentioned again that we remind him of a couple of cute little quail.

Later Brother Peeler told James the same thing about the light surrounding us but he also said that for a few seconds we looked 40 years younger to him. I am grateful we were able to be the witness couple because it was a spiritual experience for me. I can't say that is always true but this time it was.

James and Brother Peeler left to visit with Sister Dyer and take her a food basket. While they were gone I rested and then began my studies. I committed to not turn on the television today. At one time I was faltering and James encouraged me to follow through with my commitment, which I did.

We did watch on James's phone Elder Oaks and Elder Ballard in a Face2Face with the Church young adults. They answered questions and it was a great discussion. They were both adamant about young people putting their phones down and getting to know each other. I wish all of my older grandchildren could have heard this discussion. They would see two apostles in an informal, relaxed atmosphere. They were serious but you could also see their personalities coming through and they created some appropriate humor.

It was a wonderful Sabbath day!

Beautiful beginning to a beautiful day.

Jesus Christ, Appearances, Postmortal
Luke 24:36
And as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.
Book of Mormon
3 Nephi 12:1-24
*How do you make sure you aren't putting your light under a bushel?
"The Savior's message in the Sermon on the Mount is of critical importance to all of us. 'But seek ye first to build up the kingdom of God, and to establish His righteousness' (JST, Matthew 6:38).
"This message needs to penetrate into our hearts and souls. As we accept this message, we are taking our personal stand in this life." (President James E. Faust, Ensign, May 2007, 67).
President Harold B. Lee taught that the Beatitudes embody the 'constitution for a perfect life;' 'Four of them have to do with our individual selves, and four have to do with man's social relations with others.'
Elder Spencer J. Condie of the Seventy explained how the Beatitudes may be viewed as a recipe for righteousness with incremental steps, beginning with the poor in spirit who come unto Christ.' (3 Nephi 12:3). The next step in the celestial direction is to mourn, especially for our sins, for 'godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation.' (3 Nephi 12:14-16).
Elder Robert D. Hales referred to a personal experience in emphasizing the importance of being a light for others:
"Growing up on Long Island, in New York, I understood how vital light was to those traveling in the darkness on the open sea. How dangerous is a fallen lighthouse! How devastating is a lighthouse whose light has failed! We who have the gift of the Holy Ghost must be true to it's promptings so we can be a light to others. 'Let your light so shine before men,' said the Lord, 'that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.' (Matt. 5:15-16). We never now who may be depending on us. And, as the Savior said, we 'know not but what they will return and repent, and come unto me with full purpose of heart, and I shall heal them; and ye shall be the means of bringing salvation unto them' (3 Nephi 18:32), (Ensign, May 2002, 71).
Doctrine Covenants Scripture Mastery
DC 130:20-21
20 There is a law, irrevocably decreed in heaven before the foundations of this world, upon which all blessings are predicated-
21 And when we obtain any blessing from God, it is by obedience to that law upon which it is predicated.

Apart, But Still One
Elder Joni L. Koch
"In the Church, in spite of our differences, the Lord expects us to be one. He said in the Doctrine Covenants, 'Be one; and if ye are not one ye are not mine.' "

An update for last Friday night's football game between the Show Low Cougars and the Snowflake Lobos. Show Low won 42-8. Even though I am an alumni of Snowflake High School, I am so happy for Monte and his Cougars!!

James's friends, Paul and Janelle, who came all the way from Oregon to go hunting, are coming to site in their rifles this morning so I moved all of my study materials to the bedroom. They were here all morning and came in and visited with James for awhile.
I left to go grocery shopping around noon.

The first thing I did when I got to town was go to Aliberto's for my tacos. It looked so crowded that I got in the drive-thru line. I ate my tacos in the Walmart parking lot and saved the rice and beans for later.
I thought I was being frugal with my spending until I got up to the register and saw the total. Wow groceries are expensive!

I was so tired when I got home. James was tired too. He took a nap and then went out to work until dark. I sat in my recliner and watched a new movie Hallmark movie, "Darrow and Darrow." I also finished taking my steps for the day and worked on my blog.

This evening James and I watched the new episode of "Gourmet Detective: "Eat and Drink."

Feelin' guilty we weren't there.

Hilarious!
