I thanked Kim and Sheri this morning for all they did yesterday for my birthday. Kim made the cake and Sheri used her credit card to pay for everyone's food and had everyone pay her back. She also paid for our food. Brian also made the arrangements at Serrano's.
Kim gave me a puzzle and a sweet card. Sheri gave me a $100 Amazon gift card, a beautiful card with everyone's signatures. Evan's was my favorite because he said he loved me with all of his heart. Sheri also gave me a $50 Cheesecake Factory card.

Trina gave me a white cloth pumpkin with a real stem, Junior Mints (how did she know?) and a $40 Olive Garden card.

Before church this morning I finished my study notebook for Romans 7-16.

Sue was still not here at church this week after her daughter's death.
Brother Skousen conducted sacrament meeting. Both bishop and Brother Allen were gone so Chuck Crane sat on the stand with Brother Skousen.

Our high council speaker was Brother David Morris. He brought as his speaking companions, his daughter Jordan and Sister Cheryl Halls the Stake Young Women's President and her daughter Amy Halls. Jordan Morris was the first speaker.

Jordan Morris - How can we abide in Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. Abide denotes remaining fixed or stable, to stay forever. Come, but come to remain. Come with conviction and endurance. Come permanently, for your sake and the sake of all the generations who must follow you. We abide in Christ as we are firm and steadfast in our devotion to Him and His holy purposes in times both good and bad.

Amy Halls - Follow the Prophet. Amy is a goalie for a soccer team. She says she does better when she follows the advice of her coach. She likened this to following the Prophet.

Cherilyn Halls  - Sister Hall talked about how President Beeler has asked us to have a daily walk with Jesus. Sister Halls realized that reading the scriptures is having a walk with Jesus and so is prayer. Obey commandments and honor covenants. Peacemakers needed. Anger never persuades. Be a peacemaker and have a daily walk with Jesus.

David Morris - Emily Halls mission report. Patience to show love. Focus on the other person. Choose contention or reconciliation, at a soccer or football game or in the grocery store. Bore witness of the gospel and Joseph Smith.

Millie Scott got to hold Weston Hall's newborn baby girl during sacrament meeting. I was surprised they had the baby out when she is only two or three weeks old.

I spoke with Jennifer Golly and Brother Peeler before Sunday School today. I told Jennifer I wanted her to sing in sacrament meeting again. She says since she is in charge of musical numbers she feels funny featuring herself. I told her I was going to talk to the bishop and have him ask her.

Donna Peeler wasn't here today so I asked Owen how she was doing. He said her cancer treatments are going well. She hasn't felt sick and has not lost her appetite.

In Sunday School today we talked about proving contraries. Joseph Smith said: "By proving contraries truth is made manifest."

Here are some contraries that are worth proving:
Justice & Mercy
Obedience & Grace
Truth & Love
Anarchy & Tyranny
Spirit of the law & Letter of the law
Doctrinal Pairs - Love & Service
The Lord cannot look upon sin with the least degree of allowance, but as oft as you repent, He will forgive you.
The Abrahamic Covenant - Inclusivity vs, Exclusivity.
"The gospel net is the largest net in the world." RMN
Does culture trump doctrine? Never.
How we treat each other is key.

After Sunday School I spoke with Jordyn Applegate, one of my former young women who is here visiting this week. She did some fancy artwork for her dad's Sunday School lesson. Jordyn lives in Orem, Utah. She likes the art community there.

I also spoke with Millie Scott we share birthdays and we had to wish each other a happy birthday. We both have gifts for each other but we forgot to bring them. Maybe next week. I asked Millie why Catherine Halcomb wasn't here today. She said she came but Kerri, her daughter said something to her that hurt her feelings so she went home. I was sorry to hear that.

At home we had leftovers for lunch, chicken tacos, stew, and salad. I told Jared why we were eating that I did not think that the car accident was his fault. I think it made him feel good. He is a sensitive guy. He was going to ride Luna but he could tell she didn't want him to so he didn't.

We all had naps this afternoon. We thought we were going to get some rain from Hurricane Hillary that hit California pretty hard but the storm didn't make it this far. The last tropical storm California had was in 1939.
