Book of Mormon
Alma 39:1-19
Q: What does it mean to "cross" yourself in something?
A: Alma 39:7-8 refer to sins that are crimes. Sexual sins are serious in the eyes of the Lord, but can be forgiven...if we "repent and forsake" those sins, and go no more after the lusts of our eyes, and cross ourselves. In vs. 9 "cross yourself" is used twice..(a reminder of its importance). It can mean to turn your life around..switch directions and no longer give in to these sins. JS translation of Matthew 16:26 confirms this. It reads "And now for a man to take up his cross, is to deny himself of all ungodliness, and every worldly lust, and keep my Commandments." Cross yourself is to deny yourself, and to control "ALL" your passions. In other words, to use self-mastery. We can't hide our sins and except we repent, those sins will stand as a testimony against us. Alma was teaching his son that cross yourself means to erase, cancel, stop, and avoid moral transgressions.

"Defending Our Divinely Inspired Constitution"
President Dallin H. Oaks
Our belief in divine inspiration gives Latter-day Saints a unique responsibility to uphold and defend the United States Constitution and principles of constitutionalism wherever we live. We should trust in the Lord and be positive about this nation's future.

The Family A Proclamation To The World
#1
We, the First Presidency and the Council of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, solemnly proclaim that marriage between a man and a woman is ordained of God and that the family is central to the Creator's plan for the eternal destiny of His children.

Luke 24

Up at 4:45 to take a shower. I spent the rest of the morning until time to go to church studying President Nelson's conference talk on increasing our faith. I studied so much I could give the lesson. I love this talk and I'm looking forward to discussing it with the sisters in Relief Society today.

We left early enough to get our shady parking space under the big pine tree where we like to park. Chuck was ahead of us and parked right next to us. He likes the shade too. Kathy is in Texas with her daughter so Chuck is alone today.

The Grapp kids were all spread out on the bench where we usually sit by Catherine and Kerri so we sat in the back of the chapel behind the Skousen's. Sister Skousen is teaching our Relief Society lesson today and she says she is ready.

Sister Young and Sister Johnson were the speakers in Sacrament meeting. We are back to our normal schedule with the sacrament first. Also, the boys and men are not wearing masks.

Sister Young spoke on covenants and Sister Johnson spoke about all of us being children of God. When she first got up she had each of us say: "I am a child of God." She used President Ballard's October 2019 General Conference address, "Giving Our Spirit Control Over Our Bodies." I am wondering if my spirit has control over my body. I definitely have some work to do in this area.

I conducted in Relief Society and I think I did a better job than I did last time. I had every sister introduce herself. We had only one new sister this week. Sister Skousen gave a great lesson on President Nelson's talk, "Christ is Risen: Faith in Him Will Move Mountains."

After the block, James, Brother DeWitt, and Chuck and I went in classroom 209 and Brother DeWitt gave James a priesthood blessing. Chuck did the anointing. Brother DeWitt gave a wonderful blessing. He blessed James that he would get the right treatment and that he would be made well. We all felt good afterwards.

For lunch James made venison gravy and I heated up some biscuits. Lunch was delicious and made us drowsy so we took naps.
It rained hard this afternoon and we had rivers of water running everywhere.  This evening we were supposed to have "Come Follow Me" at the Goodman's house, but they have 8 leaks in their roof and are in no condition to have company. The Peeler's graciously offered to have the meeting at their house, which we did. We had 8 out of the 9 people who normally attend. Kathy is out of town with her daughter. The Goodman's conducted the meeting and served the refreshments, delicious lemon cake. We had an enjoyable evening with our dear friends, the Peeler's, Goodman's, and Brother Crane. I indexed and only have 309 names left to reach my goal of 3,000 for the month of July. I also blogged and watched an episode of "The Chosen." It was a good Sabbath day.

I finished my book by Sister Nelson, "The Heavens Are Open." This is my second time reading it. Each time it gets a little better.
I also read from "Grace Where You Are" by Emily Belle Freeman. Here is a quote from the chapter, "My Grace Can Be Found in Wilderness Places." " Christ promises you can find grace in your wilderness, grace to lead you, build you, keep you from stumbling and cause you to stand."
