Jesus Christ, Death of
Colossians 1:22
In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight:
Book of Mormon
1 Nephi 5:7-6:6
* Lehi was filled with the Spirit as he began to read the plates. Which scripture really teaches you and why?
* The Nephites understood the importance of their genealogy. How has doing your family history made a difference in your life?
New Testament "Come Follow Me"
Matthew 1; Luke 1; "Be it unto Me according to Thy Word"
General Conference
Truth and the Plan
President Dallin H. Oaks
" We honor individual agency. Second, we are a missionary people. We esteem all mortals as children of God and we want to share our spiritual and temporal abundance with everyone. Mortal life is sacred to us. Some are troubled by some of our Church's positions on marriage and children. Our knowledge of God's revealed plan of salvation requires us to oppose current social and legal pressures to retreat from traditional marriage and to make changes that confuse or alter gender or homogenize the differences between men and women.
We also have a distinctive perspective on children. We look on the bearing and nurturing of children as part of God's plan and a joyful and sacred duty of those given the power to participate in it. In our view, the ultimate treasures on earth and in heaven are our children and our posterity. Therefore, we must teach and contend for principles and practices that provide the best conditions for the development and happiness of children - all children."

I sent an email to Ben this morning on our way in to Show Low. We left the house at 9 o'clock. James dropped me off at Walmart to get my prescriptions filled for my post-implant surgery. There are four of them; amoxicillin, 600 mg ibruprofen, and 5 mg hydrocodone, plus a mouthwash.

While I was in Walmart James went to the gas station to get the car washed, something we normally do before going to the valley.

As James drove away the card was making a load rubbing sound as it does when the wheel wells are full of mud. I guess at the carwash James had to cut the plastic cover for the gas tank off because it was dragging on the ground. I guess we are going to have to order a new one.

Our first stop once we got to the valley was at Darrel and Trina's. All of the kids and Darrel were gone, except Rowan who had an orthodontist appointment today. Lola had dance earlier and now she is at a friend's house and Ruby and Addy are at school. Rowan helped us unload our car. We visited with Trina and Rowan a little. Darrel had texted me earlier and told me that Rowan was the new deacon's quorum president in their ward. I guess lots of those 29 deacons moved up and are now in the teacher's quorum.

I asked him if I should call him
President Lambson and he said no,
he prefers Rowan.

We left for James's doctor's appointment a little after two. It's not until 2:45 but it is clear on the other side of Tempe near Rio Salado and Riverton way. While James was in his appointment I did some walking down Beck St. This is where old meets new in Tempe. New modern apartment buildings and old houses and a corner grocery store.

I walked for about an hour and a half. Because this area is close to ASU, I had a view of A mountain, there were motorized scooters all along the sidewalk. I was tempted to jump on one but I didn't. I should have got a picture though.

I did a little shopping at Rollins Market. I needed a snack. A diet A&W rootbeer and some miniature powdered donuts. What's the point of walking if you eat donuts afterwards?

We used our Cheesecake Factory gift card for an early dinner. We were both craving crab cakes. Now all they have is little bite-sized ones as an appetizer. We ordered one to share. We also enjoyed the bread basket with the sourdough and whole grain bread. I ordered steak medallions with mashed potatoes with tomatoes, mushrooms and asparagus. James had salmon but he said it was not as good as Olive Garden's. No room for dessert. (The donuts were my dessert).

We got back to Trina's around 5:30, just in time to go with her and the kids to the movies. We had planned on seeing "Mary Poppins Returns." James and Rowan ended up going to see the new spiderman movie, "Spider-Verse." (Not sure if that's right, but close enough).

As we were leaving the movies I was walking behind Trina and Addy and realized how much they look alike, especially from the back. During the movie I had the privilege of sitting by Lola and Ruby and sharing my popcorn with them. Lola and I both liked the bathtub scene the most in the movie. Ruby liked at the end when the people were hanging on to balloons and floating in the air.

When Darrel got home from work he and James gave me a priesthood blessing because I am a little nervous about my implant tomorrow.

Jesus Christ, Creator
2 Nephi 29:7
Know ye not that there are more nations than one? Know ye not that I, the Lord your God, have created all men, and that I remember those who are upon the isles of the sea; and that I rule in the heavens above and in the earth beneath; and I bring forth my word unto the children of men, yea, even upon all the nations of the earth?
Book of Mormon
* Why is it important to be prepared?
- Just like Moroni prepared his army against the coming of the Lamanites to battle, we can continually be preparing ourselves and our families against coming battles, spiritual or temporal. Victory is sure when our preparation is centered on the Savior and His prophets. "If ye are prepared ye shall not fear."
Old Testament
Job 5-7
5 Eliphaz counsels Job: Man is born unto trouble, seek unto God, and happy is the man whom God corrects.
6 Job bemoans his grief - He prays that God will grant his petitions - Those who are afflicted should be pitied - How forcible are right words!
7 Job asks, Is there an appointed time for man on earth? What is man that Thou shouldst magnify him? Why dost Thou not pardon my transgression?
General Conference
Let Us All Press On
President M. Russell Ballard
" Our message to the world is simple and sincere: we invite all of God's children on both sides of the veil to come unto their Savior, receive the blessings of the holy temple, have enduring joy, and qualify for eternal life."

James worked all day, coming home for a short lunch break, at the Howard's putting down flooring. Ty A. was his assistant. He says that Ty is a good worker. I figured he would be. His sister Shelly could stack wood like nobody else when she was in Young Women's.

I put up photos in the hallway this morning.

Good start, more to come

Five awesome kids

I also made the August-September centerpiece
for the dining room table

August is the month the sunflowers bloom!

This afternoon I went in to town to go shopping at Walmart. It never ceases to amaze me how much it costs to buy groceries and
other necessities!

On the way home I noticed it had rained in parts of Vernon. James said it rained at the Howard's for about 30 minutes. We didn't get any rain at our house.

My neighbor Kathy came over today to tell me she has chickens, 8 of them. in case I want fresh eggs. By the time I use them my eggs are never fresh. She had been to town and bought feed.

I am really enjoying the audio book I am reading on Deseret Bookshelf called, "Unforgettable." Here is a brief synopsis of what it is about:
Haley has always admired her strong-willed great-grandmother Grisa. The woman survived the disappearance of her husband and thrived after her immigration to America at the beginning of World War II. But when a shocking telephone call from a detective in Germany turns Haley's life upside down in an instant, she finds herself questioning everything she thought she knew about her heritage.
The body of Ulrich Krauss has been found, and the renowned toymaker and artist has a shocking connection to Haley: he is her great-grandfather - not missing, but murdered. Now, at the request of her ailing great-grandmother, Haley travels to Germany to seek answers. What she finds instead are more questions and a growing sense of danger dodging her every step. Protection appears in the form of Joshua, an attractive man from Haley's past who is in Germany on business. Together the pair embark on an emotional quest for the truth, only to discover that a generations-old plot is very much alive, and there are those as determined as ever to keep the facts surrounding Ulrich's death hidden - even if it means silencing his great-granddaughter for good.

James came home exhausted and very grubby. He walked and then took a shower. Kneeling down all day putting in flooring is tiring work. We began watching "Love on Safari." Now I want to go to South Africa.

I finished watching "The Magic Stocking," starring Victor Webster. I like him.

This is really weird

Most of the squirrels in our yard are
not this pretty.

Atonement
Moses 5:7
And then the angel spake, saying: This thing is a similitude of the sacrifice of the Only Begotten of the Father, which is full of grace and truth.
Jesus Christ, Antemortal appearance of
Genesis 32:30
And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.
JST, Exodus 33:20,23
20 And he said unto Moses, Thou canst not see my face at this time, lest mine anger be kindled against thee also, and I destroy thee, and thy people; for there shall no man among them see me at this time, and live, for they are exceeding sinful. And no sinful man hath at any time, neither shall there be any sinful man at any time, that shall see my face and live.
23 And I will take away mine hand, and thou shalt see my back parts, but my faces shall not be seen, as at other times; for I am angry with my people Israel.
Helaman 5:5-27
*I call this my WOW! chapter because so many amazing things happened as a result of the preaching of Nephi and Lehi.
As you read Helaman 5:5-12, look for the word remember.
How can remembering the righteous examples of others help you choose to "do that which is good?"
What do you do to remember the Atonement of Jesus Christ?
*If we build our foundation on Jesus Christ, Satan will have no power over us.
*President Spencer W. Kimball said: "When you look in the dictionary for the most important word, do you know what it is? It could be remember. Because all of you have made covenants - you know what to do and you know how to do it - our greatest need is to remember."
General Conference
Kindness, Charity, and Love
President Thomas S. Monson
"Let us examine our lives and determine to follow the Savior's example by being kind, loving and charitable. And as we do so, we will be in a better position to call down the power of heaven for ourselves, for our families, and for our fellow travelers in this sometimes difficult journey back to our heavenly home."

James and I went out on the deck because it was a gorgeous day, and I gave him a haircut. It looks good from the front, but there are a couple of nicks in the back. Oops! I will do better next time.

James has so many frustrations right now. He can't fix one of the doors on the greenhouse and he just found out that Owen won't be coming up this weekend to help him fix his two pieces of diesel equipment that are broke down. That is frustrating for me too because I am tired of looking at them. Oh yes, there is another rats next in the Cat.

He was feeling sad so I suggested that we make a trip to the dump and I would read to him. Neither one of us had any cash so we robbed his Snoopy bank. Later on in the day he thanked me and said it was just the distraction he needed.

I made ham and scalloped potatoes for dinner which also helped cheer him up. I also made chocolate chip cookies, the ones for Primary with no nuts, the ones for us with nuts.

I polished the family room and living room wood floor. It looks beautiful!

Worked on our lessons and then we went to bed.
