"Swallowed Up in the Joy of Christ" Elder Brian K. Taylor

I was up at 3:30 this morning to finish typing my lesson. I then spent two hours helping James dry the rocks with the blow dryer and the space heater. When they were dry I wrote Pray on one side, and Always on the other.

James and I arrived at the church at 8:30. He helped me carry everything in but couldn't help me setup because he had a ministering interview with John Wilhelm. I sat up my visual aids by myself while visiting with Kerri Halcomb and Cheryl Sedig.

Because we have stake conference next Sunday and General Conference the week after, and today was the fifth Sunday in September, it was fast & testimony meeting. Brother Allen conducted his second fast Sunday this month.

Jeff & Susan Crane and four of their six children's memberships were read in today. Their other two girls are away at school, Clarissa and her husband at BYU-Idaho, and Elle at BYU in Provo. I am looking forward to getting to know Susan better. I love her two sisters, Tamara and Julie.

We sang three of the songs from the new Hymn book for Church and family: "It Is Well with My Soul", "Gethsemane", and "Amazing Grace." I love all three of these hymns and we sounded wonderful singing them.

Here is a list of people who bore their testimonies today:
Steve Allen - Watched Book of Mormon video of the Savior's visit to America in 3rd Nephi. The Savior loves us and wants to be our friend.
Lynda Finnell - I am grateful for service. I hurt my arm and hand and thought I was going to have to give up my cleaning business but Amy, Heidi, and Janna came and took over for me, saving my business.
Tina Allen - Charity is the pure love of Christ. I am so grateful for this ward and the charity shown after my recent shoulder surgery.
Teresa Smith - She quoted the First Article of Faith when she first got up. She also said how grateful she was for the temple.
Nathan Crane - Last Sunday strengthened my testimony of the power of love and forgiveness. I ran over Brother Corder and he was willing to forgive me and expressed his love for me.
Jerry Corder - Nathan ran over me and then he saved me.
Sister Hughes - Sister missionary bore her testimony of Jesus Christ.
Lorraine Vaught - Expressed gratitude. Talked about her husband who has macular degeneration.
Tamara Applegate  grateful for prophets who are watchmen on the tower and who can see around corners. A true disciple isn't necessarily someone who can quote scriptures, chapter and verse, but someone who applies the doctrine of the gospel in their lives.
Owen Peeler - D&C 13. I believe in the ministering of angels. The Bishop has ministered to me. Others are the elders quorum and the Relief Society. Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world.

I handed out prayer rocks to all of the sisters coming in to Relief Society.

I felt like the lesson went well. We had lots of discussion and we studied scriptures from the Book of Mormon and D&C on prayer.

During Relief Society Susan Crane sat with her mother-in-law Kathy Crane and her sister Julie Wilhelm. Her other sister Tamara would have sat with them too but she attended the teacher training class. Kathy, Susan and Julie all participated in the lesson.

As we were walking to our car Wayne Todd Mayfield came over and took our picture. He said he would give us a copy when he comes over to shoe our horses. He was outside talking to Julie Wilhelm. I told James I thought they would make a cute couple, even though he is older than she is. They will probably never get together though. They are just good friends and have known each other for years.

After four hours of sleep last night I needed a long nap this afternoon. After our nap I made some Chikfila copycat chicken tenders and James made some dark chocolate brownies with walnuts. They were both delicious. I love the Chikfila sauce and luckily we had some in the frig!

After dinner I was working on my blog when James came in and asked if I would like to go for a ride. I said yes, and off we went.

We drove over by the Y and looked at some of the houses facing a big body of water. There is one house we have been admiring because of its size and the number of windows it has. It is up on a hill and has a nice view of the water. I certainly would hate to wash all of those windows.

James found a "Come Follow Me" podcast by Kerry Muhlstein. It is called, "The Scriptures are Real." I listened to Brother Muhlstein and Steven Harper talk about Doctrine and Covenants 109. It was really good. I love both of these gospel scholars.

Notes & Quotes
"Brighter hope comes by envisioning our eternal destiny. In speaking of the power inherent in keeping 'a vision of our Father's incredible promised blessings . . . before our eyes every day,' Sister Linda Reeves testified: 'I do not know why we have the many trials that we have, but it is my personal feeling that the reward is so great, . . . so joyful and beyond our understanding that in that day of reward, we may feel to say to our merciful, loving Father, 'Was that all that was required?' . . . What will it matter . . . what we suffered here if, in the end, those trials . . . qualify us for eternal life . . . in the kingdom of God?"
