RMN: "Ask your Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, for help." Asking through prayer is one of the keys to knowing how to become a better disciple of Jesus Christ.
"Faith isn't faith in what I want, it's faith in the Lord Jesus Christ."
- John Bytheway
James talked me into going to town with him. Consequently, I only did one blog post and only got 11,000 steps. It was worth it though because it made James so happy. We went to get a prescription filled at CVS that Chris at East Valley Urology wrote. James went inside at CVS and came back out and said that he did not get the prescription filled. He said the insurance wouldn't cover it so he asked if they could do generic. They said they could but it would cost $400. That's why he told them not to fill it.
We drove over to Walmart and James went in and picked up my two prescriptions, Tramadol and Hydrochlorothiazide. The total cost was $8.92. Obviously they are covered by insurance.
We were going to get in the drive thru for Panda for lunch but the line was so long that James went inside. I told him I wanted a chow mien bowl with teriyaki chicken. He came outside and gave me a bowl with orange chicken because they were out of teriyaki chicken. I like orange chicken but it is so caloric! Home again, home again jiggity jig!
On the way home we listened to "An Engagement of Sorts." James is finally getting into the story, convoluted as it is. We stopped at the post office and picked up some Christmas cards. So far we have received cards from Dennis & Denise, Kacey & Jared, Autumn & Palmer, and the Lueck's.
Jared MacArthur came over this afternoon with a load of wood. James helped him unload the wood on the porch.
Jared said to James: "If you have family coming up for the holidays tell them not to bring eggs because we have plenty for you. Right now we have over 100 eggs. They have 21 chickens, starting out with 24 but they lost 3 to coyotes, and each chicken lays an egg a day. Chelsea gave me 2 dozen when I was there the other day.
James and I left for the church this evening around 5:20. We both have meetings at 5:30. Maxine wasn't aware of the meeting because she lost her phone this past week. Kerri came in with two packages in her arms, one for me and one for Tamara. Here is what was in the package.
I love this!
Kerri got her Christmas gifts out early for a reason. More to come tomorrow.
One of the reasons for our meeting tonight was to determine what we want to do for the sisters in our ward for Christmas. We had thought about doing the cupcake socks I showed yesterday but it's a little late to be gathering materials and we are all a little overwhelmed with Christmas. We decided we were going to do Christmas cards instead. Tamara had cards that she wanted to use but she exhausted the supply at the Show Low Walmart. We will need 130 cards for all of the sisters in the ward. We needed three more boxes. I told Tamara I would be working in the temple in Snowflake on Saturday and could stop at the Taylor Walmart on the way home. She was excited!
When Tamara, Kerri, and I were finished with our meeting we invited Kathy Crane in to talk about the food for the ward party on Saturday. While we were having this meeting the Elder's Quorum was setting up tables and chairs in the cultural hall for the party. Kathy's husband Chuck is the Elder's quorum president, James is a counselor, and Maxine's husband Gary is the other counselor.
Kathy has prepared Cafe Rio chicken for the party. We are serving it with tortillas, lettuce, cheese, sour cream, tomatoes and onions. We are also serving chips and salsa. The sisters in the ward signed up to bring desserts. We talked about how many roaster ovens we would need to keep the food warm, how to set up the food and the serving lines, etc. Kathy then asked if we could be there by 4 p.m. I thought to myself, I don't get home from the temple until 2 and if I stop at Walmart it will probably be closer to 3. I am so exhausted when I get home. I always take a long nap. I thought how hard this would be for me but I committed to Kathy that I would be there. (The law of consecration came to mind).
After our meeting was over I went into the cultural to find James. He was talking to Brother Allen whom he as a lot in common with. Brother Allen is a member of the bishopric, he is a contractor, and he is a former state wrestling champion. As I was listening to them talk someone came up behind me and tapped me on the shoulder. It was Pierce and so, before leaving, I got a Pierce hug!
At home James fixed us some chow mien stirfry while I walked and watched, "A Lot Like Christmas" starring Maggie Lawson and Christopher Russell.
