October General Conference
'Sons and Daughters of God'
Elder Ruben V. Alliaud
"Jesus's commandment to be 'perfect, even as our Father which is in heaven is perfect' is a clear reflection of His high expectations and our eternal possibilities. Now, none of this will happen overnight. In the words of President Jeffrey R. Holland, it will happen 'eventually.' But the promise is that if we 'come unto Christ,' we will be 'perfected in Him.' That requires a lot of work - not just any work, but a divine work. His work!"
'Focus On Jesus Christ And His Gospel'
Elder I. Raymond Egbo
"Joy in Christ began for Alma when he exercised faith in HIm and cried for mercy. Then Alma exercised his faith in Christ by laboring to help others taste of the same joy. These continuous labors produced great joy in Alma even in trials and troubles of every kind. You see, 'the Lord loves effort,' and effort focused on Him brings blessings. Even severe trials can be 'swallowed up in the joy of Christ.'"
Inklings today featured Emily and Michelle Craig discussing Elder Christofferson's talk, "Burying Our Weapons of Rebellion." This is the lesson I will be giving on February 23rd so I was very invested in watching and listening. It was very good but I am going to have to go back and listen again. I didn't quite make it to the end because I had to get ready to go to the temple.
We left the house at 9:30 and stopped in downtown Vernon to pick up Virgil Cooper. I met my friend Sue Hubble who now lives in Snowflake, in the session.
Virgil took forever to dress and make it to the session. James and I both thought he was going to miss it, but he made it. Sue has not made any close friends in her Snowflake ward. She and I had been going to the temple together when she was in the Vernon ward, and we plan to continue doing so. She still isn't completely familiar with the temple. She went through the veil a head of me so I was surprised when she wasn't in the Celestial room when I got there. I waited and waited and waited for her, along with James. Everyone had come through and still no Sue. I went to the dressing room and didn't see her there. When I went out in the large waiting room upstairs I saw her.
I went and sat by her and asked how long she was in the Celestial room. She said she was never in the Celestial room, from the veil she went right out into the hall and then to the dressing room. She went out the side door the workers use. Well, that explains what happened. I don't think she will do that again.
James, Sue, and I waited for Virgil for over 30 minutes after the session. The men went down the stairs and Sue and I rode the elevator. Sue is having knee surgery on her right knee on Monday. She had the other one done a couple of years ago.
We went to Eva's for lunch. James paid for everyone. Sue, Virgil and I all got chili relleno's with green sauce, ala carte. James got his normal chicken enchilada with green sauce and a side of refried beans. I forgot how good their chili rellenos are.
Sue had not heard about James's brain bleed so I told her the story. Of course Sue has a daughter who died of a brain tumor a couple of years ago so she has been through a lot. She took her on a cruise before she got too sick and she had a brain bleed while on the cruise. They put a drain in her brain which drained into her stomach.
Sue's little granddaughter Kaylynn, her daughter's daughter, is taking the missionary discussions and Sue is so excited!
I gave Sue a hug and wished her good luck with her surgery and told her to give me updates. It was around 3 o'clock when we got home. We were gone 3 1/2 hours. Normally it's 3 hours. I took a nap with Tom while James went to the church to help set up chairs for Kim Penrod's funeral tomorrow.
I got up from my nap and worked on my blog while watching and listening to "Wicked" on my phone. It took 2 hours and 40 minutes, the length of the movie to blog January 25, 26, 27.
James and I had scriptures and "Come Follow Me" this evening. We listened to President and Wendy Nelson's talk to the youth given in 2018. It's when President Nelson called the youth to enlist in the Youth Battalion of the Lord. So good!
Here are some things he asked the youth to do:
1. Disengage from constant social media, take a 7-day fast.
1. Disengage from constant social media, take a 7-day fast.
2. Weekly sacrifice of time for 3 weeks to know how to help gather
Israel.
3. Do a thorough life assessment with the Lord. Are your feet firmly planted on the Covenant Path? Practice daily true repentance.
4. Pray daily that all of God's children will be able to hear the gospel of Jesus Christ.
5. Look like, and act like a disciple of Jesus Christ. Read and discuss For the Strength of Youth. Share with someone who doesn't have a copy.
