Do not suppose, because it has been spoken concerning restoration, that ye shall be restored from sin to happiness. Behold, I say unto you, wickedness never was happiness.

October General Conference
"Tithing: Opening the Windows of Heaven" by Elder Neil L. Andersen

Fasting and praying for grandkids today. I put some baked beans in the crockpot this morning before leaving for our Sunday meetings.

Today was fast and testimony meeting. I think my favorite testimony was Tamara Applegate's. She talked about singing in the stake choir and how the music enters your heart and mind. She shared the scripture Ephesians 2:19 - Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints, and of the household of God; She shared times she had spent with Ann Johnson and Teresa Hein who are both new converts and how she felt at "home" with them.

Charlotte South bore her testimony. She broke her pelvis so it was nice to have her back. She said that Heavenly Father lives and Jesus Christ came to earth to save us. What is taught in the home is more important than what is taught at church.

One little girl, probably four or five, her name is June Westbrook got up and said: "I am a child of God." That was it. Short and sweet.

A brother Peralta bore his testimony twice. He was baptized 34 years ago by George Wallace. He said he was grateful for Jesus Christ who suffered for a sinner like him.

It was a good meeting.

I found out today that Sue Hubble is moving to Snowflake in December. I was a little sad but Snowflake isn't too far away that I can't see her once in awhile.

We have a new sister in our ward. Her name is Tanna Osborn.

I signed up to bring a cake to the ward party on October 21st. When I got home I asked myself why?

Two temples were dedicated today, One in McAllen, Texas by Elder Uchtdorf and one in Feather River, California by Elder Soares.

Wendy DeWitt taught the lesson in Relief Society based on Elder Rasband's talk "How Great Will Be Your Joy" which was a plea for more senior couples to serve missions.

Here are some notes that I took:
For a service mission in your area look on the Church's service mission website.
President Hinckley's daughter at his funeral: "My father wore out his life in service to the Church."
Jeffrey R. Holland made promises to those senior couples who serve missions: "God will fight your children's battles and your children's children's battles.
Can we make more of an effort?
Sally Sedig served an 18 month mission in New Zealand. A lot of the missionaries sold their homes to be able to serve.
Book: "Wrinkled Missionaries"
Bridgett Jordan has served 6 family history mission to the Family History Center in Salt Lake City.
Nothing is impossible to the Lord.
801-240-0897 Number to call if you want to serve a mission.
Wendy said: "It doesn't matter what your health is." I am sorry but sometimes it does matter.
One single sister said: "I can't afford to live in the United States, but I can afford to go on a mission."
Can I afford it? Look up on Church website for the cost of each mission.
"Lengthen Your Shuffle."

James and I felt for the valley this afternoon around 2:30. We got to Darrel and Trina's just as dinner was being served. There was one woman and two kids there. I guess the rest of the guests were in a meeting at Church. After a blessing on the food we had: Tri-tip, two kinds of salads, Red Lobster biscuits, sweet potato fries and regular fries.

We got to visit with the kids for a few minutes. I asked Addy how she liked school and she said she loves her programming class.  Rowan is in cross country and is also working two jobs, one at Little Caesar's and the other one is putting up bouncy houses for parties. He said he is sad he can't go to the cabin with Evan this week because he has to work and he also has cross country practice. I asked him if he was saving for a mission and he said: "Yeah, and some other things too."

I sat by Ruby during dinner. Just being close to her makes me feel good. One of her best friends, Chloe, was one of the guests who arrived late. Lola gave me the necklace that she made for me and I wore it this evening.

There were three guest families over for dinner with all of their kids. We excused ourselves early and went upstairs to Rowan's room where we always stay. We got ready for bed and went to bed a little early.
